Staff in person are very nice and gym is clean but they did not handle my cancellation as promised. When signing up for my membership, I clarified that I would be moving for work and was assured that they would help me handle the cancellation if/when the time came.
I was charged for an additional month however due to seemingly high staff turnover and have since been ghosted by the staff who were supposed to handle this.
Update: I got a response! But I did have to go in person and email 3-5 times. They were very helpful once I went in person though!!

Worst EQX location in NYC. I’ve been an Equinox member for 10+ years and this location continuously disappoints. Filthy locker rooms, generally low cleanliness standards, machines are constantly being moved or decommissioned. It’s not an enjoyable experience and does not live up to the Equinox brand or cost of membership

DO NOT JOIN. I speak as someone who uses this location regularly and has been to over 20 equinox locations. This location is hands down the worst and it is all totally avoidable. Almost every piece of equipment in this gym is old and on the verge of breaking. Every week another machine has problems. Even basic things like knobs on the weights for machines just fall off and don't get replaced. I had to berate them for months to get rope pull downs that were completely worn and unusable. Worst of all critical things at the gym such as the steam room have been broken for months. There are serious health issues like roaches, clomps of hair in the shower and unlike any other location the cleaning staff is routinely using the locker room as their personal hangout. This is all while they shower, use the amenities and failing to actually clean the space. I started taking the subway to other locations even though I live 2 blocks away it got so out of hand. Since they lock you in for a year I would strongly urge you not to join this location. It may look good on a tour but when you use stuff and see how they maintain things while raising prices you will become outraged like me and cancel.

The steam room has been broken for 6 months + and there are roaches all over the bathrooms and yet, they asked to increase my $310/month membership by $17. When I confronted them about potentially not increasing the fees because of the steam room and bugs, they told me that I already agreed in my contract to these fee increases and there’s nothing they can do about it….
Lovely!!

Roaches in the bathrooms/showers. Human hairs all over the eucalyptus towels. Steam room has been broken for over 6 months. All of this for a small price of $310 per month! This is how you lose customers and go out of business :/ Wildly unhygienic — do NOT join this gym!

The facility itself is fine. The maintenance is pretty appalling. The showers/toilets were absolutely filthy.
Shame on the management of this club. For the price members pay, the very basics should be expected.

Extremely disappointed by the hygiene standards at this location. I saw a large roach crawling toward the women’s changing room — completely unacceptable for a gym charging over $300 a month. If you're going to charge luxury prices, the facility should reflect that in cleanliness and maintenance. Standards are slipping.

I’ve been a EQ member for going on 6 years but this club made me cancel my membership. Long story short - there are various other studios opening up in the UWS which are significantly better options for what UWS residents would expect quality wise. I rarely write reviews but this place really stinks and is a comical waste of money.
1) Facility itself: very small and so overcrowded, you can’t sit anywhere or use machines without having your head in someone’s crotch during peak hours. Every couch / seat available always had people working in it, it looked bizarre like a really busy airport. Half the machines were broken for weeks on end. No nice amenities like the other clubs and classes are limited in times/types. My husband got herpes gladiatorium from their mats!! It always smells like sweat. I don’t think I ever saw their smoothie bar open. Cockroaches in the basement locker rooms! The towels were so rough and over washed, they seemed to be relics from the Bush administration.
2) Administration just looks to suck money and provides no help. I expect that from like NYSC but not EQ. I had a 48 session personal trainer package automatically renew without my permission 2 years ago. I went to the front desk the next day and asked them to cancel it but they said nothing they or their manager could do. I sucked it up and figured that eventually I’d use it. Because I didn’t renew the personal trainer package myself, I never saw that they expire after 6 months. They didn’t notice until recently when I had asked again if there was a partial refund I could get because I’m struggling to get through them (I’m a nurse with an erratic schedule - hard to get standing appointments that trainers need), my trainer was AMAZING though. They then told me “nope and by the way now that we’re aware you have 3 weeks to do 14 sessions good luck”. I emailed at least 5 people (both at SC where the package was renewed and at 76) and only one got back to me was 76’s club PT manager who did try to help me out but at that point I was fed up with the club in general and cancelled my membership. Rene from SC straight up just ignored my various emails after initial “no”. I lost well over $1500. EQ touts itself for being top of its class, and you would expect for the price you’re paying they wouldn’t be like this.
I used to belong to Sports Club, which was worth the expense and they even had cute events from time to time as well as a rooftop in the summer and outdoor running track. This location ended up being more per month since they only accept the all access package (which doesn’t include locations like Sports Club).

Overall: Gym is fine, but customer service, ability to provide services, and ability to communicate and make things right is lacking.
1. I signed my 2 kids up for child care through the app
2. The morning before the appointment, I find out from a friend who also signed their kids, that they don't have someone to staff childcare, and it is cancelled for the day.
3. By the evening, I still haven't received a call from equinox, and I proactively give them a call. They said they were super busy and sorry for not calling. They also confirmed class will be cancelled, and they will refund me the money and cancel my class.
4. I receive an email the next day saying, I didn't attend the class which means the front desk person didn't follow through on cancelling my class and childcare.
5. I call in a few days later asking them to refund my class, and remove the "missed class strike". (Nothing happened)
6. A week later, I ask them in person to refund me and remove the strike for missing the class. Unfortunately, they only refunded me for one of the kids.
7. I walked in to the location, and asked to speak to a manager. They let me know the general manager quit and things were hectic. (Shocking, right?) and that the Assistant manager would speak to me. Unfortunately he/she was busy, so they said they would call when they were available.
8. Still Nothing.
For a brand pushing a high end experience, the customer service and execution are not excusable. Maybe this location in specific is having issues, but it should not be this hard to get a refund when they cancel class.

EQ HAS LOST ITS EDGE.
The staff is largely wonderful. Nice front desk and sales team. The cleaning staff is always working as well as they can with what they have. The trainers… there are a few as fit as you might hope to one day become but are not at all the army of aspirational bodies EQ was once known for.
The design and layout, while due for a renovation, is pretty good. There are a lot of windows, which is ideal. That being said, it’s a bit cramped for the number of members they have.
Ultimately, EQs prices keep going up Up UP and its quality goes down down down. Poor financial management and performance likely explain why the local team is not able to address fixes as well and as quickly as they used to; showers and patched up ceilings go unmended for months on end. There are showers in the men’s locker room that have been broken for months. “Out of order” signs are the norm and not the exception. Additionally, back in the day you’d never see maintenance happening. It’d be expertly done during off hours. Now you’ll see the cleaning staff painting or quick-fixing tile grouting during operating hours. All last week there were boxes of tiles sitting around in the Lounge in the men’s locker room. Far from the luxury experience it was before Related acquired EQ… which exponentially got worse since Covid.
If you’re gym shopping, go to LIFETIME.

Have been coming here a few months now. Front desk people always very unfriendly making it fairly unpleasant from the offset. Everyone who uses this gym has very poor gym etiquette - people do not put plates back when done, don’t wipe down after using equipment, stand right in front of the free weights blocking you so they can see themselves better in the mirror, and you have the constant feeling everyone is staring at you always. Men’s showers don’t feel very clean. Gym is always overcrowded (regardless of weekday vs weekend) and you have to wait for everything you want to use, particularly bench press and free weights.

Not worth the amount of money we get charged. This location is small. Many times there is a machine broken, towels are old, and during peak hours it is impossible to find a spot to workout. The majority of the classes are bad, meaning they don’t have good teachers compared to other locations. Most teachers have an attitude. In past year I only found 2 teachers that were professional and actually knew how to teach and what they were doing. Most of the staff is polite and helpful (that has been my experience).
I wouldn’t recommend this location. Consider Chelsea Piers or LifeTime Fitness and if you are only lifting go to a Blink gym (this location is pretty much the same as Blink Fitness, this is not a high end gym as they claim to be)

Used to be more about a nice relaxing workout, in your own space, when it opened.
Now it’s like LA - eye contact and stuff - some kind of a scene. Front desk staff seem to literally reinforce some cheaper hybrid of David Barton image mentality, which if it is your thing, would be happier at that place than this place.
EDIT: gym wants to ‘address’ bad reviews but not really address you in person when you walk in to talk about something.

Fine facility, but to still have shortened hours due to Omicron at this point in time is laughable. Be transparent and say that this is a financially motivated adjustment in operating hours and please stop using a health crisis to (thinly) veil your profit-seeking business practices. I'll happily update this to the 5 stars that this club deserves once you stop closing at 8pm on Fridays and 7pm on weekends.

Equinox @ 76/Amsterdam is disappointing tbh. The equipment and staff are solid, although the place needs a decline bench press and certain members need to stop hoarding scores of free weights for their entire workout. But I have to agree that the hours are a problem. No gym should close at 7PM on Sat/Sun and at 8PM on Fridays, especially one that charges Equinox rates. Nobody should buy the variant excuse for shortening the hours of operation. Equinox just increased membership dues despite claiming that the dues would be locked in throughout your membership, and of course most gyms are busier in January/February due to New Year’s resolutions, etc. Yet Equinox thought it made sense to start closing earlier in January which defies logic. I’m pleased that the staff stopped acting as mask Nazis; for a time it seemed like their ultimate goal was to narc on some whose mask dipped under the nose. And the HVAC needs to drop a couple degrees. It shouldn’t be uncomfortably warm while working out. I maintain my membership because the other options are worse, but the limited hours of operation is Equinox’s biggest negative.

They recently limited hours for the month of January after already collecting monthly dues. They claim this is to help deal with the Omicron variant, which makes absolutely no sense as reducing hours makes the gym more packed, not less. Whenever I go, the gym is packed, making me question whether there actually even is gym utilization problem. To me, decision looks like a cheap money grab (fewer hours = lower operating costs (i.e. staff & heating costs) with same revenue, as gyms are a fixed monthly subscription).

Management and staff could care less about this location. Old bottled energy drinks and shaving razors left in the filthy showers. Shaving cream left splattered on walls. Dirty sinks and discolored towels. They have one very elderly Hispanic woman who is evidently overwhelmed with her duties. Front Desk expected me to voice my clean shower stall needs to her vs doing her job and managing communication for prompt service without involving members. She then entered the locker room to ask me AGAIN if I had asked maintenance for a clean shower. She left me with no ETA & I sat there in my towel in a gross locker room. I left immediately and will not be using Equinox. All NYC locations are clearly of low standards and lack responsible Managers. I would never invest in such a low standard company slacking.

Ok, so as a disclaimer, I'm posting these reviews for my reference. I have an All Access Membership, and I want to visit as many of these as I can, to see which one I like most/would like to go to.
My interests are powerlifting, Olympic weightlifting, swimming, so my review will be geared towards that.
Three floors, the bottom floor is for lifting and cardio, the ground floor is for the Shop, and the lobby, the 1st floor is for lifting, an open space with dumbbells, not that big, not too geared towards powerlifting. Plenty of cardio machines, one squat rack, a couple of benches. Enough open space to deadlift. The lobby has nice sofas to sit and work. There is a lower level, I don't remember what that had.

My experience with this location hasn’t been anything less of fantastic. They are all so friendly and helpful. From the retail store, juice bar, cleaning staff, and member ship advisors. The equinox has changed my lifestyle.
I showed this lifestyle to the majority of my friends and family. With the help of Molly Russel ( membership advisor) we were able to sing up over five people in the last few months. Equinox is a breath taking experience from the los angels Santa Monica location with the green turf, to the Miami location on collins.

I don't recommend this location. All the staff have such an attitude and if you are a woman, this is an unsafe place for you to work out.
Recently, I went there around 9pm and finished my regular workout and took a shower and put a towel over my body. There was no one else in the women's locker room except a cleaning lady. Then I saw a suspicious person, who didn't look like a female, walking back and forth very slowly fully dressed with a towel on their head. I reached out to the person and snatched the towel from their head. It was a teenager or boy in his early 20s. He just slowly walked out and I screamed so hard several times, "security!" Not a single person showed up.
I quickly put my clothes on and ran upstairs to the front desk people. When I asked them if they heard me, their response was "oh, music is too loud here". No one asked what happened to me and they didn't seem to care at all. I explained to them what happened, but no one asked if I'm okay or said they were sorry. My body was shaking from fear. They seemed more interested in making excuses, since they were saying things like "maybe he got lost",or "he might be the son of a member."
The next day, a manager called me and asked if there was any chance the person in the locker room might have been transgender. The day after that, he called again to say he had reviewed the surveillance tape from the entrance area. So basically this suspicious person walked into the gym without scanning a member ID and none of the front desk people seemed to notice or care. The manager said they don't know who he was, and since nothing physically happened to me, they wouldn't report it to the police. He also said the guy was not a member of the gym--but, if you don't know who he was, how can you be so sure he is not a member of the gym only because he didn't scan his card? Also nothing happened? Seriously? The manager offered me two months free but come on!!, I don't feel safe at a gym that has such poor security and I don't feel comfortable with the staff's attitude. In response to my questions, the manager told me there is nothing to prevent people off the street from entering the locker rooms (other than the inattentive front desk people), and he also said they did not intend to make any changes to improve security.
I canceled my membership immediately. I wasn't paying over 200 dollars every month for such poor service and lack of security. I feel that all women who go to this gym should know what happened and how badly equinox handled the situation.

Had a very bad experience. I was verbally abused by two huge guys within a five minute period as I was resting between sets. One was a trainer. I thought either would punch me. I tried to diffuse the situation and went to the management. They were apologetic but refused to let me cancel my membership. Not a problem. I’ll cancel via Amex. I’ve been going to gyms for 30 years and this never happened. I’m scared to go back.

Becareful! The gym has dark black carpets and a small step near their stretching zone and due to lack of reflectors on the step, I fell and fractured my foot.
Their head manager suggested I cancel my membership or freeze it. However, he has taken no acceptance that the injury is due to the lack of safety measures in the club.
For a club that you are paying extremely large amount of money for, I would assume there would be better measures put in place to avoid injuries such as this.
I was told by two other members that go to this particular gym that they see this happen a lot.

One of the best equinox gyms I've been to in a while. This location is very spacious and has a yoga studio located in the back. The bathrooms are luxurious and always kept clean. The staff/trainers are very friendly and they actually know what theyre doing. Another unique aspect of this gym...is that it has a JUICE PRESS located inside. They provide great smoothies for pre/after workouts...and their dried goods are worth buying for quick nourishment. The staff who work during the night...are very welcoming and charismatic...and I always enjoy saying hello to them. Lastly, when leaving this location...there are a number of places that offer great food/drink at reasonable prices such the ale house right next door, playa bettys, and sweetgreens down a ways. By far, the best gym on the west side...

This is the best Equinox location I've been to in NYC. Very large and spacious, great locker room and keypad lockers, nice showers. Best of all this location has a spacious lounge with various couches and chairs to chill in on the Wifi or eat lunch at from the cafe. Most of the Equinox locations are missing nice lounges like that. The other locations if they have any chairs at have them in terrible locations like right in front of the front desk or in front of the offices and they feel awkward. The only other one with a nice lounge I've been to is the one on Wall Street.
Though a complaint I have about ALL of the Equinox locations in NYC are their cafe prices. The juice bar and stuff they make at the cafes are fine. Though the drinks and the protein bars and other dry snacks they sell at them that you can get at Whole Foods or tons of other little markets etc. all over New York for 1/3 the price they sell them for. They charge literally up to 3X the price for everything you can get down the street. Airport prices! Though it's not a freaking airport! Since it's not far at all to find the same stuff for 3X less at a store on almost any block, why are they charging 3X more? Who do they think they are? A coconut water that is $1.69 at Whole Foods they charge $3.69 for. Protein bars that are $1 at Whole Foods are $3 at their cafes. Why? Just cause the members can afford it? Instead of getting extra benefits and treatment for being a member you get ripped off cause they know you can afford an expensive gym. Stay away from their snacks and bottled drinks!
The other complaint I have about ALL of the Equinox locations in NYC is their OCD about cleaning. Don't get me wrong, I love having a very clean gym. It's great for the locker room how they constantly keep it clean and wiping down equipment and the laundry and towel service. Though they excessively clean the floors everywhere and break out the vacuum like every hour on the hour to vacuum the entire gym! I highly doubt the floor got that unclean in the last hour, and no one is obsessively looking at the floor anyways. They're just walking on it with their shoes on. They could save the vacuuming for the evening after the gym closes to give a full vacuuming and moping and detailed cleaning of the equipment etc. Instead almost every time I walk into any location, start using the equipment or take a seat in the lounge, it's not more than a few minutes until I hear the loud and annoying vacuum come out again and can't hear the music over it much. A really obnoxious noise and intrusive to it's members trying to workout or read or hear the music. And then they come up right next to you and you have to move to get out of their way as they try to vacuum right around you!
