Not a great gymnastics oriented location. They dont focus on individual coaching and is a glorified day care.

I enrolled my 6 year old daughter at flips, I am very transparent on the fact that my daughter has a speech and language issue and needs a little more guidance and redirection. I was told that was fine that she could be accommodated. my daughter is extremely athletic and can do forward and back flips already, they are mostly interested in stretching exercises and extreme basics and lump children only by age not by ability. If you’re looking for a gym that your child will learn and eventually compete this is not the location. I am extremely involved in all activities and I’m the parent who brought my daughter to flips and stayed the entirety of the class and at no time previously was I ever told that they had an issue or that she misbehaved. The one class I left early for parent teacher night and had my father come and stay for the rest of her class, my father notified me that the staff wanted to speak with me. When I contacted the gym I was given the explanation of she ran off was on the trampoline and the other kids were upset at why she was doing the trampoline and they could not… then I was told she attempted to do the bars and was a danger… which I completely understand , but when I spoke to my father about it he told me, the older instructor walked into the gym, sat there, and just observed my daughter run around and at no time did anyone try to redirect her that day, and since he had never been there previously he didn’t realize that this wasn’t the norm. When I contacted the gym and was given their shpiel about her running around, I was very agitated at the entire situation and how it was handled. I received a partial refund, but as someone whose extremely involved in the community and always making sure I’m honest with staff about my child and any needs she has and her abilities, I was extremely dismayed at how dismissive and how quick they were to remove us. In light of this we did find a beautiful gym in Farmingdale where she has been extremely welcomed and is being trained on the bars at the moment, I’ve received no complaints and have actually had her moved three times to a more advanced class at that location. So I just want to say if a place like flips makes you feel like your child is not a good fit for gymnastics or any other activity there are other more inclusive kind, and loving locations where your child can grow and excel to their full potential. If you’re just looking for a gym to kill time and kill your child’s energy then this is the perfect location if you’re looking for an actual gymnastics location for your child to grow in excel this is definitely not it.

My girls have been coming here for the last 2 years. They have progressed at their own pace without being pressured to do more than their comfort level. This has built their confidence both in and out of the gym. Can't thank the staff enough for how they are shaping my girls into strong young women!

So happy my friend told me about this gymnastics place! They have a fun mommy and me class for toddlers, my daughter enjoys it, they do many fun rotations, the price is very reasonable and they’re very friendly!

We had our daughter's 8th birthday at Flips. It was AMAZING! The girls were doing fun activities the whole time including zipline, rock wall climbing, trampoline, a gymnastics circuit, and fun games with the advanced gymnasts who host the party. Then they had pizza and huge cupcakes that were included. They had so much fun and everyone is still talking about the fun weeks later! I will likely do a party for my younger daughter there because it was such a hit! We loved it so much we started classes at Flips too!

The instructors spend a great deal of time on their phones instead of teaching the class. The instructors do not speak kindly to the students.

My daughter has been coming here for many years. She progressed from open gym to pre-team to Team and is now one of the bronze level girls on team. The staff and coaches here have nothing but your child's best interest in mind and the kids are constantly being coached. The low star reviewer below admits her child learned things and was introduced to multiple apparatus. Sounds like a pretty fulfilling gym session for a new student that's being evaluated. Seems to me like the child was going to regular open gym sessions and this parent and child do not understand the progression of gymnastics and had an unrealistic expectation as to what their child would be able to do after a few classes. Your child will not go from basic matt tumbling to team level uneven bar and floor routines in a matter of a few classes. you are asking for your child to do things they cannot handle. This gym has been nothing but professional and caring toward the kids enrolled. None of the children are pressured by the coaches (except to do their best) the only pressure I've seen in this gym have been from parents who expect their children to be Olympic level after their first mommy and me class, they usually don't stay in the sport thankfully.
If you want to see how this gymnastics school operates ask for a tour and to sit in to watch the actual team girls. You will then see where your child will be after working hard over time.

At Flips Gymnastics you pay for and get a "5 Stars" organized physically active play date. Parents wait in a very clean, bright and fragrant area from where they can view their child(ren).
My daughter went to this location and was disappointed with it very much. For starters the teenage "coaches" talked and payed no attention to the class during warm up stretching. In her class, Girls Rec, the students were obviously not interested in learning the sport as much as they were being unfocused and immaturely disruptive. The coach was aware of such behavior and did nothing to redirect the girls attention and interest in gymnastics. For the weeks she attended her group never did floor work.
It's a two stars rating because of the lack of commitment from the coaches. Although she got her first experience with the bars and vault and learned some skills for the beam, it wasn't enough to keep her interest in continuing to attend Flips. She now attends another local gymnastics center and the coaches actually pay attention to the class and teach the "how to" of gymnastics. My daughter enjoys these lessons and I think the money is better spent. However, I will be on the lookout for idle coaching there as well.
