If you want a no nonsense, accountability holding, giggle having trainer...Sid Aquino is the one you choose. Sid allows you to be your best self, and he motivates you to go hard at every training session. If I had questions, he had the answers. If you want a bland workout, do NOT hire Sid, because he makes working out fun, and he caters to your needs. He will hold you accountable, encourage you to do more than what you think your body can do. His catch phrase is "don't worry, it's not heavy, Its just ___lbs, you can do it" as he tries to go up in the weight (LOL). I definitely recommend this man-you will not regret it, TRUST ME!

Her clients range from a 16-year-old who wants to bulk up to a 71-year-old who used to do Turkish getups but had a setback during COVID (that's me). Lori's credentials include a Masters degree and a great sense of humor. When others have seen her training me in my building's gym, they've hired her (two so far!) because of the rapport she develops so naturally with her clients and the strength she's helped me rebuild in such a short time. I signed up for a basic package about 2 months before my wedding and asked for someone with an encouraging approach to coaching. I was matched with Ramel. I can’t speak highly enough of him and the package/company. It’s important to note I wasn’t starting from a far place as I’d been doing intense work outs for 5-6 sessions a week, but seemingly hit that that plateau. Ramel not only got my body in the exact shape and cut I wanted (I received endless comments like β€œwow your body is really changing lol and β€œyou look great” noticing muscles etc along the journey and at the wedding), but I also had a pleasant experience. I cannot speak highly enough of the Starting Strength barbell class for anyone curious or serious about starting barbell exercises. Nick, Victoria and the instructor cadre are laser focused on proper technique (for all the right reasons -- efficiency, protection, etc), and pointing out to you how to maintain technique as difficulty goes up. The onsite culture is hard to beat -- instructors and students are all serious about teaching/learning, in an universally welcoming, supportive, judgment free manner, with zero stereotypical gym meatheadedness or braggadoccio. This course is tailor made for scrawny novices like me wanting to build whole body strength, or just learning the damn techniques for real and are ok with learning to walk before running. Women -- well I think over half the staff are women who can move big metal themselves, so I'd be hard pressed to imagine a better starting environment. For big guys who move big weight while maintaining great form discipline and seriousness, it looks like they are having as just an effective training program as I am. For excel nerds working out hourly cost equivalence vs hiring a dedicated PT to teach barbells, vs free self-teaching from youtube (or the book) and developing bad habits or worse (and resulting costs), believe me I worked through those risk adjusted considerations and Focus was the optimal outcome. For Type A junkies who thrive on the kick from steady progression and new highs -- the starting strength program scratches all those itches. For people who like understanding the mechanics of why things are done, and how to mechanically diagnose how form works (and understanding exactly how your mistakes impede you), the instructors are all over this. The facilities are also top notch.

I have been training with Ryan F for almost 2 months now at 1-2 sessions per week. Just renewed for my second package, and trying to increase to 3 sessions a week shortly! Ryan is fantastic, very knowledgeable, detailed and motivational... always changing the workouts and explaining what the purpose of each exercise is of course.

The gym itself is always very clean, smells good, and has an upbeat but business like atmosphere. The group classes look interesting as well for anyone into that also.

We (I and my wife) had an overall great experience with Focus Integrated Fitness. We started with 12 session package. Initially, we tried 2 sessions because after first session my wife had some lower back issue. They were nice enough to let us try another session and then we locked them for 12 sessions. Our personal trainer was Liz Cavanaugh. She was very attentive and was always willing to change things around to make work out easy or hard as per our need. We both have lower back issue so we wanted someone to work on our core strength. She did a good job. She was always on time. Never in hurry to leave. She always made sure we are doing well after the workout too. We would continue to do more sessions, however, we are traveling for next couple of months so we will definitely restart after we are back.

I had been eyeing Focus’ Starting Strength Barbell class for literally a year before joining in January 2018. I had always been in interested in training somewhere, and often came across Focus’ name whenever I googled β€œbest place to train in NYC”. I have a particular love for the place as it is a facility and program that trains trainers, so you know what you’re getting is top of the line.

Finally, I took the plunge and signed up. 100% worth it. I have learned more about form on the Squat, Bench, Deadlift, Overhead Press, Barbell Row, Chin-ups than I ever could have imagined. I’ll often find myself babbling in workout lingo well after the clas is over. I’ve even helped β€˜train a few friends’ (one of whom joined the class briefly) aka give them some pointers.

Even better than learning the technical aspects of form, you actually practice, constantly, under the bar. Every day you are there you are concretely working and being coached to be better. I’ve broken through countless mental and physical barriers and have never felt better. (At a mere 150lbs, I have lifted 260+ lbs on my deadlift... for reference, when I started I could barely lift 115 lbs! All over the span of a few months.)

Finally, and by far the best and most important element of training at Focus - the people. Coaches, interns, fellow lifters; everyone is wonderful. There is tons of individualized attention from the Focus team, and a consistently friendly, driven community to lift beside. I am an actor and one fellow lifter even came and saw a show of mine when it was on at Lincoln Center. What more can you ask for?

Up until a few work trips in June, I had not once missed a (3x/week, twice at 7AM) class, despite the early start and distance from my home. It has been that great.

Not only is it quite affordable but the process is great. You speak to them about what your goals are, have a nice conversation, and then like something out of the movie Weird Science they choose the perfect vetted trainer for you. FOCUS is a great facility with even better personalized training programs. I have been seeing FOCUS trainer, Angelica, for several months now and it is the best time of my week! Each session is action packed and leaves me feeling exhausted, accomplished and like I got a good sweat in. Every session is different- we do a variety of different exercises focused on upper body, lower body, core, full body, etc., all personalized to my endurance, strength and abilities. In terms of value, the personal training sessions are money well spent due to the personal attention and intensity of each session. The noticeable results I have seen since consistently seeing Angelica far exceed any results I ever got from Barry's, Flywheel, Pilates, etc., and they continue to get better as my personal program becomes more challenging every week.

I've been doing the Starting Strength class with Brent Carter for the past 3 months. As a guy who has tried a bunch of different exercises programs over the years, none have come close to the results that I have experienced here. The workouts are hard, but the results speak for themselves. Brent really knows what he's doing: under his guidance I've been able to add over 110-120lbs to my squats and my deadlifts. And I've done all this without any injuries!

I have been on a search for the right gym/workout for quite awhile now and it was a big challenge to find the right fit... until now.

Working out publicly can be quite intimidating and uncomfortable. It is a very personal experience and the large corporate gyms didn't appeal to me, nor the flurry of "fad novelty" exercise crazes, (like The underwater spin class, eye roll inserted here!) that seem to keep popping up everywhere.

If you want the real deal, Focus is the place.

There is no pretense, the trainers are professional and the management is very involved in making sure your experience is nothing less than positive.

I love that it is my best kept secret gym in the city...so although I just put them out on blast, their business deserves the accolades.

I took the Starting Strength barbell class for 6 weeks (after six weeks, I moved to a different city). Brent Carter is an incredible coach and took me from not being able to do a squat to squatting 1.25x my body weight with good form in this amount of time! I couldn't recommend the Barbell Club here more. Signing up was painless. The facility is pristine. But most importantly is the quality of all of the trainers on deck, especially Brent, who oversees the meetup. He's got an uncanny coach's eye: It was pretty wild how quickly he was able to diagnose and correct my flaws in lifts I'd trained on my own, and teach proper form for lifts I wasn't familiar with. I originally trained with Focus Fitness about 2 years ago and just recently started training with them again this January. In both cases, I have been amazed at what I’ve able to accomplish and really owe it all to my trainer Luis who taught me how to properly strength and circuit train. Luis is simply a fantastic instructor; he is incredibly knowledgeable about the physiology and science behind the exercises, is always available to answer questions, and is really just a nice, humble and thoughtful guy. Many times, I would walk out of a session feeling like I just got hit by a bus, but it’s actually a very rewarding feeling to know you’ve worked hard and pushed yourself to your limit. And today I am down almost 30 pounds from when I first started and dropped my body fat percentage by almost 7%. At over 40, I am in the best shape I’ve ever been in my entire life. If you put in the effort, Focus will get you results. There is no miracle cure to getting fit (it’s equally a mental discipline as it is physical) but if you are committed, Focus will absolutely help you achieve your goal.

I am currently enrolled in the barbell training class, under instructors Brent and Pete. I started this class because I injured my back, and after physiotherapy realized that I needed to strengthen my core, back and upper body, or my back pain would recur.

After just a few weeks of training regularly, I have had no recurring back pain, and am able to lift a lot more than I expected. The instructors provide excellent training using the Starting Strength methodology and are very particular that I am using the right technique to lift. Despite being a group class, there is a lot of personal attention.

I would highly recommend this class to anyone who wants to improve their lifting technique ,whether they are a novice or have been lifting for years.

With all this in mind Gabe assigned a trainer to me. Clearly it was done with the utmost of care and consideration as I feel extremely well matched w my trainer. He works me hard yet "thoughtfully." After 2 years of working with Melissa from FOCUS I had to end it because I am moving to London for work. If she would agree to it, I would bring her to London and continue our sessions! Melissa was such a pleasure to be around that I actually looked forward to waking up early and spending time together. She worked me hard and I see (and feel) amazing results. We did periodic assessments and she gave me an exact breakdown of how I have improved since the previous ones. She gave me routines and other advice for when I am on my own which is so helpful, but the best part is how she explains the science behind the exercises or stretches so that I have a true understanding of exactly what my body is doing and why. I am constantly impressed by the vast knowledge she possesses. Melissa has become a lifeline for me and a friend. When I move back after a few years (hopefully) I fully intend on asking her to train me again.

I have been attending Brent Carter's strength training class for about 6 weeks now and have made significant gains. Brent is a lifting jedi master -- uniquely capable of immediately breaking down everything you are doing properly and improperly in real time with each repetition. You may think you know how to squat until Brent tells you otherwise, and suddenly you can squat more weight, more easily on your next session.

Highly recommended. Our class of roughly 6 people range from total newbies (male and female) to folks who have been lifting for years, so it is a comfortable atmosphere. The bottom line is that with this class, your technique will greatly improve, risk of injury will diminish, and your gains will be much faster.

And this is to say nothing of the camaraderie among the participants which is very motivating as well!

I can't say enough good things about Focus. I'm in Brent Carter's morning Barbell Class, and was training with Ryan Peller for over a year before that. These Starting Strength coaches are phenomenal, and helped me take my squat from a measly 95 lbs to over 320lbs, and my deadlift over 350!

Brent always has a great, positive attitude, and is genuinely interested in seeing you get better and lift more. He's able to juggle a class like no one else, ensuring everyone gets his attention when they need him. Plus, I love the atmosphere of the class - everyone is super supportive and cheers each other on.

Price is what you pay, but value is what you get, and I've gotten not only so much value out of the training, but out of making so many new friends (both trainers and other clients)!

Jen kicked my butt. By the end of it I was laying on the floor thinking I was dying - Which was great cause that is what I needed. The PT6 class at FOCUS is everything I have been looking for in a gym class. I love the combination of strength and cardio in a circuit format, and the environment is so fun and welcoming. I would recommend it to friends of all ages looking for a great, new workout!

I am typically very intimidated by the gym but PT6 made me feel completely at ease. The space is sleek and inviting with brand new equipment and great staff. Luis was very hands on and made me feel completely comfortable and confident in my abilities. The class absolutely flew by and can make even the most timid gym person a convert. PT6 is one of the most fun, consistently challenging HIIT class concepts I've tried. The instructors are awesome and the vibe is totally unpretentious. But my favorite thing about the classβ€”hands downβ€”is that the instructors focus on proper form and I never feel unsafe, even when doing the most challenging exercises (a problem I've experienced at many other circuit training-style classes).

For the past 4 months I've been participating in one of the FOCUS Integrated Fitness exercise and nutrition programs. With the knowledge and support of my Personal Trainer, Nick Law-Yu and Nutrition coach, Ryan Heffernan, I've already achieved significant progress, with an increase in strength and a decrease in my overall Body Mass Index.

Up until joining FOCUS, I've always trained on my own without the skill and motivation of an experienced personal trainer. Based on my own personal fitness goals, Nick designed a program involving a combination of weight training and cross fitness routines, so my sessions are never repetitive and always a challenge.

Along with Nick, I've also been working with Nutrition Coach Ryan Heffernan. With his professional exsperience and the use of the Precision Nutrition System, Ryan has guided me on the path to a healthy, nutritional lifestyle, a key component to reaching your fitness goals. Precision Nutrition entails eating simple unprocessed foods, more often and in portions based on your size, body type and ultimate goal. The system never feels like a diet, so I never feel deprived or unsatisfied and the results speak for themselves. Before using Precision, I would have never considered my diet to be unhealthy, but I soon realized there's always room for improvement.

My overall experience at Focus has been extremely positive. In addition to Nick and Ryan, the rest of the FOCUS staff are equally professional and personable. The facility is clean, bright and conveniently located in the heart of Chelsea, plus there's always an abundance of positive energy amongst staff and other members. The combination of proper nutrition and working with a trainer, have given me the knowledge and drive to reach my fitness goals and the ability to maintain them into the future.

I signed up for PT6 classes on classpass and I'm happy to say I will be leaving classpass for them.

I played D1 softball in college so fitness is extremely important to me. While there are endless fitness facilities and boutique studios in NYC, finding a facility that meets my high expectations has been unnecessarily difficult.

I've used classpass for the past few months and took classes at well-known studios that people rave about. I left disappointed as the classes tended to focus on speed and not form, which often leads to injuries.

Luckily, I came to one of PT6's classes. First off, all the trainers are amazing (I took classes with Meaghan S., Jen M. and Nick G). The moment I walked into PT6, I was greeted, and asked about my injuries. Then throughout the class, my form was consistently tweaked, even if it was the smallest adjustment like repositioning my head slightly.

I highly recommend if you're serious about fitness and understanding how to properly perform exercises.

I recently tried a FOCUS fitness class, and it was the most intense workout i have done thus far. I love that they offer ipads in a boot-camp style workout while also having the trainers there to help you through each workout. The workouts target every area of the body which i love!

I would love to come back, the results are AMAZING!

I have had an amazing experience working with FOCUS. I just had my first child 3 months ago, and I wanted to find an effective way to get back in shape. It also had to be convenient, given I had about one hour max that I could leave my new baby with my husband to fit in a work out. A friend recommended FOCUS, since they would come to you/your apartment gym. I had never worked with a trainer before so I was a bit nervous about what to expect. When I called FOCUS up, the owner Joe took the time to talk to me about my goals and what I wanted out of the experience, and paired me up with an excellent trainer who couldn't have been a better fit for me (Jennifer McCombs). After completing over 10 sessions, I can say that she's been able to push me to do more than I thought I was capable of, and I already have real results to prove that it's working! I'm hooked. :)

I have been working out with my trainer, Ryan Heffernan, at FOCUS Integrated Fitness for over three years. It has been one of the most rewarding activities I do. I work out three to four times a week and have seen amazing results. What makes this experience different and a lot better than any of my previous working out with a trainer experiences is that my trainer and FOCUS overall care about me as an individual. The program that we follow is designed for my needs and goals, my body, my age and ability to execute the exercises but also to keep me motivated and challenged. The program that I follow is designed specifically for me and changes according to what my goals and training needs are. If I am training for a Spartan Race, to gain muscle volume or to lose weight, the program is well thought and structured accordingly. It is documented with before and after stats and tangible results.
I am not just another "fee" to the club. I am treated with respect and care and have seen that time and time again. From the way they welcome me when I arrive to their sincere concern about my well being when I cancel a session.
If you are looking for a place where you can set goals for your physical appearance and want to have a trainer who is not only knowledgeable but who will also create results for you then
FOCUS INTEGRATED FITNESS is the place for you. I highly recommend you try them out.

I have been training at Focus Fitness for close to 3 years. This is the first time in my 50 years that I have stuck with a exercise program and have seen amazing results. When I started at Focus, my body fat was 28% and now with regular workouts and fine tuning my eating, I have been between 14% - 16% for the last year. I am stronger than ever because my trainers Ryan and Luis work together to tailor make the best exercise regimen specific to my needs. I travel often and they always make sure that I am set up for success, by putting together a program for me while I am on the road. I am also a fan of their PT 6 Classes, which offer full body workout.

Since I began working with Focus trainers and taking the PT6 classes, I feel as if I have transformed my body and hugely upped my stamina and general energy level. I also worked with Focus to change my diet using the Precision Nutrition program. I dropped body fat and gained muscle mass in a way I did not think my body was capable of doing. Most importantly, after four years, the results have stayed as I continue to follow the nutrition program and take the classes. I cannot state too strongly how life changing this has all been. For someone like me, who has never thought of themselves as athletic or as a physical person, the new-found confidence Focus has given me is truly priceless.

This review is for the Focus Barbell Class.

Brent and Nick are both exceptional coaches. They are highly attentive and readily give corrections and cues to ensure we lift safely and more efficiently.

Brent is a certified Starting Strength coach so the coaching and programming used in our class is based off of the Starting Strength Model which is one of the most effective and highly regarded barbell weight training programs in the fitness community.

The facility is clean and spacious. The environment is supportive with friendly people. In my class there was a mix of men and women with the majority being new to the Starting Strength Model. Most of us had yet to exhaust novice linear progression. Regarding the equipment, there are five platforms in total on the main floor. Two power racks and three squat stands. Altogether, the class accommodates 15 participates with three per platform.

Focus Integrated Fitness is one of the best places to get introduced to the fundamentals of the major barbell lifts. If you care about building a solid foundation of strength for performance and overall health then I highly recommend this place.

I had a great experience Focus Integrated Fitness. Extremely professional and experienced staff. The Barbell classes with Brent Carter were excellent and I would recommend them to anyone who is interested in fitness of any kind. His knowledge and coaching through the lifts were as good as you can possibly get. PT6 class with Meaghan Shea was also a great experience. Excellent veriety of exercises gave me a challenging and fun workout. I'd recommend Focus to anyone interested in fitness.

I signed up for a personal training session and the day of my scheduled appointment my personal trainer reached out to reschedule because he had a family emergency.

I was totally fine with my trainer postponing my session date because I completely understand that last minute things come up. To be honest, I did not even think twice about it, but the next day Focus called me to apologize for the last minute cancellation and then offered me a complimentary training session as a make-good. It was so incredibly thoughtful and an amazing display of good customer service.

It is why I brag about Focus to my friends and co-workers all the time and it is why I chose to work with them over and over again. Since I started attending classes at Focus, I have referred 8 people to the studio and this kind gesture will encourage me to refer more.

I booked some training sessions with Focus for my trip to NYC. I wanted to burn off a few calories while we enjoyed our food escapade in the city. Here is the letter I wrote to customer service. I was blown away by the service:

I wanted to write to you to let you know how impressed I was by the service I received at Focus. My husband tells me that I can be difficult when it comes to service and in my expectations, but I want you to know that overall, your facility surpassed my expectations.

I appreciate that you were very patient and friendly on the phone. Thank you for even offering to give us ideas on where to eat and what to do. (We tried Becco, by the way, and it was an excellent choice. Thank you). I also appreciate that you followed up so quickly and that you sent me the info for the trainer so I could also contact him. Thank you also for helping me with directions on how to get to the fitness facility.

I got to the gym at 7:30am where my appointment was 8am. Nick Law-Yue was already there and waiting and i was impressed. I am always punctual and tardiness is a huge pet peeve of mine. Nick was also there the next morning when I arrived at 8:30am and our appointment was 9am. He was very professional and motivating. He pushed me to my limits. He asked me to rate the intensity of the workout so he could decide whether to increase it or decrease it. The workout was intense and ever changing so I did not get bored. I absolutely loved it. The only thing upsetting was my stomach....I shouldn't have pizza the night before a Focus workout. I liked that he stretched me after the workout and that it was an intense, well balanced full body workout with cardio and weights and that he incorporated tabata since I said I liked that.

NYC is only 1 hour 5 min flight from us here in Holland, Ohio. I will definitely use your facility again on our next food escapade to the city.

Thank you again. It was a pleasure working with you and one of the highlights of my weekend. I would like to write a trip advisor review but could not find you on that site. Let me know what I can do for you in terms of testimonials, reviews, etc.
