It was an incredible stroke of luck to happen to book a hotel just a couple of hundred yards from Greenpoint Athletics. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to start each day during my holiday than by training here. Amazing coaching, community and facility. Thanks to Ron and the team for being so welcoming. I have been attending Greenpoint Athletics’ weekend boxing classes for six months and can confidently say that they are some of the best boxing workouts in the area. The instructor, Yaya, motivates the patrons through jumping rope, shadowboxing, pad work, and bag work, and I always leave feeling spent and fulfilled. Highly recommend! You won’t get this much pad work and bag work at other fitness boxing classes.

Greenpoint Athletics is, hands down, the best gym in the neighborhood. It’s welcoming, supportive, and full of genuinely kind people. Ron, the owner, has created something special here, and the trainers are all amazing. They care about you, they know their stuff, and they’re always there to cheer you on.
The workouts are challenging yet scalable, so whether you’re starting from a beginner level or an advanced one, you’ll feel encouraged, not pressured. Most importantly, it’s a safe space for women, super friendly, and full of good energy. The vibe is lighthearted, with the occasional dad joke to keep things fun, and the community is tight-knit in the best way.
They offer flexible memberships and private training, and the gym is also kid- and dog-friendly, which is a thoughtful touch. I have to give a special shoutout to Kylee—training with her has had such a positive impact on my life. She’s helped me build so much confidence and strength, both physically and mentally <3
If you’ve ever felt intimidated by gyms, this place will change that. I’m so happy I found it.

I walked into greenpoint athletics in 2020 nervous about everything. Ron the owner took the time out of his day to go over a few things with me from my first class up until today 5 years later if I ever need help with anything. They have helped me with body positioning for lifts, cardio knowledge, helped me work around injuries I got outside of the gym, nutrition, and cycling.
Sarah, Kylee, Dom, Vinny, Rich are incredible coaches at the gym. They know so much detail for every aspect of working out along with how your body works. They make every class fun and it doesn’t feel like a big commercial gym. This place actually feels like home which you don’t get very often from my experience of traveling to other CrossFit gyms.
If you’ve been going to gyms like this for a long time, have the respect for the coaches and members here as you would at another gym and show up on time unlike some others and you will be taken seriously. Otherwise please don’t walk into class ten minutes late consistently and disturb our flow! ;)

I've been a member of this gym for a little over a year now and finally feel confident I can give a fair review!
I started coming here in the worst shape of my life, following a torn labrum and broken leg (both 2 months apart from one another!), and was assured they work with people of all levels, and this proved to be true! While sometimes I felt a little embarrassed, constantly modifying the workouts, the coaches themselves were always happy to help me scale, and my embarrassment was really all in my head (isn't it always?). Kylee and Freddie both especially took the time to assure and encourage me, paying close attention to my limits but also pushing me. I am so so grateful! The people really make this gym. The community is so fun, from the pictures they keep on the walls to the funny banter during class, it's easy to feel at home. The programming and workouts are top-notch, designed to challenge you and provide well-rounded results. I am especially excited about the gym's new app, which will make it easier to log and track results, encourage interaction between members, and provide a generally more user-friendly experience. The equipment is up to date and well taken care of. When updates are needed, Ron is quick to act. I love the size of the classes. While on the weekends the classes are larger and sometimes can present challenges in finding the exact dumbbells I want, during the week the classes are smaller. Lastly, I am especially pleased this gym is one block from my apartment, giving me NO EXCUSES.
As for ways this gym could improve, I'd love to see more programming offered outside of the gym! Socials and whatnot. Additionally, I would consider this a "no-frills" gym, so while I don't expect a state-of-the-art heating and cooling system or top-of-the-line sound system with mics for the coaches, both those areas could be improved. I should mention that a new air conditioner has been introduced, which I am thrilled about, but have not yet had a chance to benefit from. Lastly, I would love more classes offered on the weekends!
All in all, I've never felt stronger and am looking forward to many more years with this gym.

I have been a member of this gym since 2020 and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. I cannot recommend this gym enough!! The coaches are the absolute best and every single workout is intense in the best ways. I always feel great after a workout. I have never felt stronger! I am fully aware of my greenpoint athletics addiction :)
I even went throughout both of my pregnancies and the coaches did a great job helping me modify the workouts.
A side note- I met my husband at this gym and now we have two beautiful kiddos so you may even meet your future partner here because the members are pretty great too! :)

Best gym. I've been coming to this gym for 4 years and started with no crossfit experience. The programming was friendly to me as a beginner, which was important because I was intimidated before walking in. The coaches help you and show you the exercises before the workout and also how to modify any exercise to your comfort level. You can tell that the coaches want you to succeed and get better, and you can see yourself getting stronger and more fit over time. The community of members is welcoming and not cliquey. You always leave feeling like you got your money's worth. I used to hate going to the gym but now I actually love it :)

I love Greenpoint Athletics! It is such a welcoming space for people of all different fitness levels and the workouts are challenging but fun and rewarding. I’ve personally seen so much growth in my own fitness journey from coming here and I know that this gym continues to be a place that inspires and pushes people to be the best version of themselves. I have been to many gyms over the years and I can say confidently that there is nowhere like this place. The coaches are top of the line, helpful and patient. The community is fun, inclusive and welcoming. As a woman growing up in a world where gyms were male dominated and could be scary, this gym has always made me feel welcome, heard and most importantly STRONG. I couldn’t imagine ever working out anywhere else.

I love this place since I first walked in on a Saturday in 2019. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced athlete, you should definitely drop in.
TLDR:
Ron has made me feel welcome since the very first day. Him the other coaches and most of the members have become like a second family to me.
It’s by far the most inclusive and diverse gym I have ever been to, which I greatly appreciate.
Joining a CrossFit gym is intimidating like any new activity. Where Ron and the coaches really shine is in making you feel included, comfortable, and part of the community even as a complete beginner.
Talking specific stats:
-Since I joined the gym, I have gained over 25 pounds of muscle.
-They also got me to a point where I can now squat over 400 pounds. something I never thought I would be capable of.
Just for a reference, I live in Queens and there are CrossFit gyms five minutes away from my house. I choose to drive four times as long to go to Greenpoint Athletics because the gym culture and coaches are that good and welcoming.
There’s no other place I would rather work out

I've been doing CrossFit for over 10 years in over a dozen gyms all over the world and I've never had such a bad experience as I did at Greenpoint Athletics. It provides a lazy bare minimum, and I was willing to overlook the dirty benches with padding falling apart, and the lack of jump ropes for everyone (they ask you to bring your own) in order to have a CF gym two blocks from my house. But the final straw was when coach Sarah was condescendingly rude and aggressively bullied me. They have huge gas heaters blasting hot air directly over the racks, and I would often ask to turn it off in order to do the workout. Sarah would refuse b/c she was not training and therefore cold... And when I gently suggested she put on a sweater, she said "I have a sweater." And didn't put it on. This was not done kindly, it was rude. So I emailed the owner to complain, and he told me the heat should be on for strength and only be turned off for conditioning. Fine with me. The next class I took with Sarah was all conditioning, involving 90 pull-ups so I asked her to turn off the heat again and instead of addressing my request with any maturity or respect, Sarah was totally unprofessional and completely blew up yelling at me that it was a gym and that I should sweat, and when I tried to walk away from her she followed me and continued to yell and shame me for wanting the heat off! She taunted me that the owner was on her side and not mine, resentful that I had complained to him about her. I literally ran to the bathroom to hide and cry she was so mean and intense, and I DO NOT cry easily. When I spoke to the owner about it on the phone, he agreed that we should have a meeting between the three of us to try and cool things down, and then when I followed up via email he changed his mind stating he didn't believe it was necessary after all. So negligent, unprofessional and disrespectful. This is not a warm and friendly gym, the coaches often offer awkward banter with the class completely unresponsive. I do not recommend it and I have canceled my membership, and they refunded me the unused portion of my membership.
Note: I may have been late to class a few times when I started to attend this gym, but that's no excuse to attack or disrespect me. It's worth noting that I am a woman of color and both the owner Ron and Sarah are white, and there is no way they would treat a white man this way.

My partner and I moved to Greenpoint a year ago and joined this gym right away. We were a bit overwhelmed in the beginning because we never went to a high intensity workout before. What we found was an amazing community, new friends and acquaintances that made going to the gym fun. Fast forward, we never been this healthy and happy working out. After trying several gyms, now we actually enjoy working out.
The crew including Ron, Sarah, Vinny and Kylie are genuinely nice people that will accomodate to your needs and help you learn. The gym is really grunge and we love that… it actually creates a nice community with people that come here to work out. We really love this gym and if we would ever move out from Greenpoint it would be really hard to find a place like this.

Truly a special neighborhood place. I’ve been coming here a while and the vibe is ideal, friendly and ppl know each other without it being too clubby. I joined as a ABSOLUTE BEGINNER and so can affirm it’s a great place to start from nothing, while classes and workouts can always be as hard as you want to make them. You could go for years and keep learning and improving, which says a lot about the coaching and programming.

I’ve been going to this gym for over six months now, and I can honestly say it’s been an incredible experience! This was my first time trying both personal training and CrossFit, and I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction. The environment is welcoming to everyone, regardless of your fitness level or experience. From day one, I felt supported and encouraged by both the trainers and the gym community.
A huge shoutout to my personal trainer, Sarah! She’s been absolutely amazing—knowledgeable, motivating, and genuinely invested in my progress. Sarah takes the time to tailor workouts to fit my goals and abilities while pushing me to do more than I thought I was capable of. Her energy and positivity are awesome!!

The best gym, best community, best coaches, and best owner. Hands down.
We joined GPA to mix things up - we were tired of working out in shoebox/vibey studios, and doing solo workouts at larger gyms wasn't getting the results we wanted. It's exceeded all of our expectations!
They're super welcoming (both the regulars and the coaches) to people who are new and have varying levels of comfort, but they also make sure that if you're someone who knows what you're doing and is more serious, that you're going to be pushed and see fast and material results from the workouts.
The coaches actually show you proper form and make sure that no one is risking injury, and they coach the more advanced folks on how to get even better.
It feels like a community but not a weird cult, which is super rare to find in a gym that is legit and has consistent attendees. Some examples: we chose to do a workout the morning of our wedding with our family and friends and they were so lovely, decorated the gym and designed a super fun accessible workout, it rocked. Ron (owner) helped us wash and winterize our bikes bc we don't have a hose at our apartment. GPA is the kind of spot you just want to have in your neighborhood.
Ron the owner is the nicest best dude, a true expert and professional and we hope GPA is around for many years to come!

3 years ago I walked into this gym with zero CrossFit (or any fitness) experience. With some dedication and guidance from the talented coaches at Greenpoint Athletics I now have a fitness program I can stick to.

I’ve been coming here since April 2023 and have loved every second! The coaches are amazing, and super clear/guide you through anything to make sure your form is correct or improving consistently. I’ve done lifting for years and always have been at a standstill on strength- but here, thanks to their programming and guidance, that’s changed. I arrived able to squat 165 and deadlift 175- and have increased those numbers by 50 and 60 pounds respectively in around 6 months. I have no doubt this place makes me so much more fit - but the real bonus is the amazing community. I’ve made so many friends here after moving to this neighborhood for the first time, and it feels like every class you go to, there’s someone there who knows you and is rooting for you, noticing your progress and hyping you up, and just bringing the good vibes. Hope I’m in Greenpoint for a very long time so I can stay with this great gang!

I can't enough good things about Ron and Greenpoint Athletics!
The classes and coaches are fantastic!
After being a member for many years, I moved away and started using Ron for remote programing.
His programs were awesome helping me crush my goals. My bench, squat and deadlifts all saw gains.
When I signed up for the Chicago marathon, I knew I needed Ron to do my program. I hadn't run more than 5 miles for a few years. He got me race ready, avoided my previous running injuries and kept some strength training in the mix. I not only hit my goal of sub 4 hours, but I felt good doing it!
If you're looking for to get fit and have fun drop in to the classes at Greenpoint Athletics.
If you want to crush a goal (marathon, olympic/power lifting, gymnastics, get that 6-pack) go see Ron for personal coaching.

Fun. Fast paced. Clean. Really knowledgable and caring coaches.
My wife and I had never done crossfit before and joined after a 2 year hiatus from working out. Have gone from 3 days a week to 5 days a week and love it. Never did crossfit before and it's not a problem -- workouts are challenging, but they are well taught -- so you can learn, and lift with confidence!

I joined Greenpoint Athletics about 6 years ago when I started my fitness journey. Ron and the rest of the coaching staff have supported me beyond belief and helped me progress in a ton of different areas including cycling, CrossFit, Olympic lifting, bodybuilding, and even nutrition.
Other gyms say it, but this place truly helps you improve no matter your fitness experience. Any workout, any class, can be tailored to you skill and comfort level.
Lastly, the community is awesome. You’ll come across a ton of locals as well as new folks joining all the time. Everyone is super friendly and never passes any judgement whether you’re brand new to fitness or someone who’s trained for 15 years.
Definitely stop by if your visiting or become a member if you’re local!
