I hadn't joined any type of gym or fitness class in many years because I would lose interest. This class has changed my habits in such a great way! I feel really great after our weekly classes and would recommend Jennifer to anyone who is on the fence about taking a fitness class.

With in minutes of the first class of Yoga For Strong Bones, Jennifer showed me how to sit comfortably crosslegged with multiple props. I told her that I felt my investment was worth it with just that. She made me more aware of holding tension and releasing tension and breathing more effectively. She led us through 12 poses that are alleged, according to the NY Times, to prevent and even reverse osteoporosis. Jennifer brings her own special sauce by reading from a book of Rupi Kaur poems and creating a peaceful space that is calming to the nervous system.
I am so appreciative for this amazing group of women that I share this experience with each week!

I just finished my third five-session series of "Yoga for Strong Bones" classes with Jennifer Brilliant. These classes are amazing! I come out feeling strong and so energetic I go home and get a million things done afterwards. I know a lot of people who love yoga, but I had never tried it. My doctor recommended yoga for osteoporosis, and I learned that Jennifer had this class. She is knowledgeable, gives individual pointers and has yoga aides that help the class master the poses. I highly recommend it!

Jennifer is a wonderful teacher who connects easily with each student and their particular strengths and needs. She shares her understanding of yoga in ways that allow a deepening understanding of personal process and practice. Yoga for Strong Bones was so satisfying I signed up for the next series!

I have the fortune to practice yoga with Jennifer for 17 years. The experience has helped me tremendously in many ways, such as aches and pain. Recently, with my neck and shoulder pain due to a long period of working on a computer and bad posture, Jennifer patiently explained poses and stretching exercises to help me.

During the time that I’ve been working with Jennifer, I had a traumatic and serious physical accident in my home that I was lucky to have survived. I remained at home, was in pain but still mobile. I kept my one-to-one appointments with Jennifer. Little did I realize how invaluable her support would be throughout this extremely difficult time when we were all suffering through the trauma and isolation of the pandemic.

The truth, however, was that I needed healing on all levels and I was not able to see that. Jennifer’s invaluable gift to me was to provide the space for me to recognize and embrace what happened on every level - emotionally, spiritually and physically, and to help me accept that all these parts needed time to heal.

I have been enrolled in Jennifer Brilliant’s virtual VIP series since she first offered it. The members in the class are all different levels of experience ranging from a yoga instructor to me with little experience. I never once felt that I could not follow or keep up with the class. Jennifer makes every class different and tailors to each of our abilities and needs. She remembers who has a twisted ankle or tight shoulders or lower back pain and brings and modifies movements to assist with healing. At one point I had an eye injury and Jennifer was sure to tell me how to do an exercise differently to keep my head from inverting. The class is a great mix of stretching, strength and flexibility building and gentle cardio. It’s been so convenient to take the class from home, Jennifer somehow pays attention to each of us and suggests corrections to our poses. I also really love the short reading she opens the session with which becomes a theme for that class. Working from home and spending too much time in front of screens, I finish each of Jennifer’s classes feeling great about moving my body and having my soul nourished by such kindness, generosity and wisdom.

Jennifer's yoga sessions have made a profound impact on my well being. I teach preschool age children and am often exhausted by the time I come to yoga. Jennifer's classes always manage to restore my energy and focus. She has such knowledge about the inner workings of the body and has helped me effectively address issues with digestion, fatigue, back pain and joint tenderness. Jennifer has worked with me on strengthening activities both in class and at home. For each private session, she carefully crafts a menu of specific stretches and poses that I can practice on my own. During her online group classes, Jennifer always makes sure to help students adjust poses to their own capability. She is able to provide more challenges to the seasoned yogis while meeting the needs of those newer to the practice. Her classes are truly a joyous, body and mind affirming yogic experience.

I’m enjoying yoga class online! Having practiced with Jennifer for 20+ years in “real life” I was saddened, and a little skeptical, about doing yoga “virtually “when COVID restrictions locked us all inside. I am, much to my surprise, really enjoying it! It is still yoga with all the goodness the practice brings. On days when I feel overwhelmed, saddened or just plain bored with all the pandemic has wrought, I think to myself, “today is yoga day” and I know I will be feeling much more settled and content once I have taken Jennifer’s class. I walk away from my mat with less doubt and fear and with more confidence and joy. As well as with a stronger and more agile body.

Jennifer has mastered the art of teaching online yoga classes. Her creativity, concern for students, knowledge of body movements coupled with her unique sense of humor all come through the screen and into our own little worlds in which we now practice. As the world became shut-in, and on-line, Jennifer took to researching all things required to conduct a virtual class live from her beautiful studio. As inviting as her studio is, we are all in our homes, but practicing together. A warm hello with other students at the beginning is followed by a beautifully led class and completed with a moment at the end when we can bid a fond farewell. Camera on/camera off is your choice but all microphones are silenced during class, unless there is an urgent need to say something. Jennifer, trained for the stage and so well versed with the body, provides perfect verbal guidance for each step of the familiar asanas and talks the class through the fun sequences she likes to create for us. She is also moving through the asanas as we are so you can always peek at the screen if you don’t quite get something. Jennifer has adapted to virtual teaching and continues to provide her students with amazing classes. And I continue to work on a healthy body, mind and spirit through my regular time on the mat with Jennifer guiding the way!

Jennifer has adapted her practice to on-line Zoom during Covid. Classes are a full body experience and she gives clear directions. I come away feeling stretched balanced and very calm. Great experience in this strange and sad time

This is my favorite yoga class ever! I’ve done yoga on and off for many years. Ultimately, I got tired of being ‘preached to’ about eastern religion OR asked to challenge my body into Unnatural contortions and exhaust myself with a boot camp approach geared to burn calories, ‘get a great body ‘ through a highly aerobic style.
Jennifer, knows the deeper gifts of yoga and is able to relax, refresh, revitalize the organs and muscles - without a stressful ‘come on - you can do this’ approach. The entire hour feels easy and pleasant. When i leave class, i have an increased flow of vital energy, a greater alignment and there’s nothing tense or tight in my body. The class is almost like having had a good massage. I feel so lucky to have finally found a yoga teacher like Jennifer!

I have studied with Jennifer for several years and with each year I admire her more. This is not a studio where every class is the same. Continually building her skills and knowledge through advanced training, Jennifer draws on her deep understanding of movement, anatomy and classical yogic teaching to create a yoga experience tailored to the needs of real people. I leave each class understanding my body better. Each class is unique and builds on prior work or can stand alone. Jennifer is a talented wordsmith, creating metaphors that help you find new ways to move within yourself. Class is never routine and never dull. Jennifer caters to each student's individual needs seamlessly. Her students create a supportive community in which there is no judgement and no pressure. Studying with Jennifer has helped me reclaim my body and improve my health.

Jennifer Brilliant has a gem of a studio on Carroll Street in Park Slope that is inviting to students of all levels.

I've been practicing yoga with Jennifer for several years and religiously attend the Sunday morning 10am class.

Jennifer has cultivated a community of friendly and caring students through her love for teaching and sharing. Her classes are intimate but not intimidating. The studio is welcoming and impeccably clean. Jennifer gives personalized attention to each student and modifies poses easily based on level and injuries.

I worked through a torn hamstring a few years back and also a recent back injury - she was amazing guiding me with her precise instruction, extensive training and knowledge. And I must add she has a wonderful sense of humor that keeps it all very real.

I leave each class feeling stronger in both body and mind!

Jennifer is great. I have taken yoga with other yoga teachers, but was turned off because I was unsure of proper movements. Jennifer takes the time out to talk you through and/or show you the poses. She teaches us to be in our bodies and be strong. She's awesome.

I have been studying Yoga with Jennifer Brilliant for over a year, taking both individual lessons and classes. Jennifer is a wonderful practitioner! She is highly knowledgeable about Yoga, and highly skilled as a teacher: She is warm and supportive, clear in her instruction, and passionate about her work. Jennifer relates to every student, remembering our strengths and weaknesses in a supportive way that creates a warm, caring community in her classes. She is passionate about her work – and her students are passionate in their appreciation of her. I certainly am.

I came to Jennifer with pain in my body, especially in my hip, lower back and feet. Now I am much better. This became clear to me last month when I went to the theater to see the play “Beautiful”. The box office said they only had “Standing Room Only” tickets. I hesitated to try this, wondering I if I would be able to stand there for 2 ½ hours. Yes I could! Not only did my feet and hips feel totally OK, but since I was standing in the back where no one could see what I was doing, I danced my heart out to all of the songs! “Oh What a Night!” as the Jersey Boys would say. Thank you Jennifer!!!!!

A treasure, plain and simple. I've been practicing at Jennifer Brilliant Yoga for years. The quality of the classes never disappoints. Instructors marry high levels of expertise with great storytelling, translating wisdom into teaching that is both practical and memorable.

Another hallmark of these classes is individualization, with close tabs kept on student capacities and wellness. Modifications for poses are provided whenever needed. Each class is built around a theme or focus, keeping the practice fresh and inspiring. I feel so lucky to practice here.

There is no one like Jennifer Brilliant. Her classes are thoughtful, engaging and oh so much fun. She spends time with her students, encourages questions and has an uncanny ability to spot an overextended elbow or un-engaged pinkie toe from across the room. When it comes to savasana, well, let's just say we'd all sleep a lot better if Jennifer tucked us in at night.

Empowering and enlightening and invigorating! Jennifer’s class is an opportunity to deeply investigate my body, my habits, and my assumptions about yoga. She always brings refreshing clarity to the situation at hand. Inventive, playful, wise, rigorous, focused – with a huge store of knowledge that allows her to meet every student exactly where they are. It is a great pleasure to learn from her.

It is very hard to find a yoga teacher who is not just knowledgeable but also committed to each and every student and each student's alignment and quirks. In addition, being a creative person, she finds ways to add new poses to every class and is constantly tinkering and improvising. Her class is a work in progress (not that it is disorganized because it is not in the least) but because we feel we are on this journey together. We keep learning and growing and never settle into a dull routine. I was just about to give up on yoga and am glad to have found Jennifer. Just one of those lucky breaks for me!

Practicing yoga withJennifer has helped me in so many ways. It has made me more flexible, both physically and mentally; it has helped relieve sciatic pain & arthritis; and it has made me more aware of myself and the world around me. My practice brings such joy, even as I feel discomfort or frustration with certain poses. There is a new adventure everytime I go to my mat, and a new awareness of my own capabilities and even an appreciation of my limitations, because when I fly above those limitations, it is so very sweet. Thank you Yogi - Namaste.
