Since LA Fitness took over in 2024 from XSport the gym is not providing the level of service, cleanliness, or equipment quality that members should reasonably expect. Not to mention is not 24 hours anymore. I have been giving my business to another gym that meets my standards and services.

For real. Not surprised the gym space is great but poorly managed and maintained. Also a lot of members don’t practice good gym etiquette. Put back weights, don’t leave locks on lockers so other members have a chance to lock up personals, eating outside food in basketball court. The gym needed to set standard and reinforce it through the many tv sets throughout the gym both visually post and live action videos demonstrating do’s and don’ts in a way that cool and effective. Have gym staff that knows most of the members walk around as ambassadors to “gentle enforce etiquette policies “ and then if that doesn’t work fine members, temporarily suspend, and finally terminate membership.
I do hope an experienced operator will come in renovate and refurbish the gym and reopen. Because Coop City and other Bronx communities need health and fitness services all over. Members we have to think of the other members as we use a gym. Doing on to others what we would like in return. Management has to be professional and create atmosphere that is safe and d fun that people want to be apart of. For gym to work well it needs harmony and mutual respect.

This gym has gone down the drain since being bought by LA Fitness. While this gym was under the membership of XSports, it was clean, well kept, the air conditioner worked, the gym, spa and pool were all functional. Its sad to see what this gym has become. The new staff (not the fitness class instructors) are rude and lazy.

Ever since LA Fitness took over, it’s been disappointment after disappointment! From sudden closures to the gym still sporting the old XSport signage, it’s clear maintenance and communication have been neglected. And now, not even two years later, the gym is closing—what a surprise! The audacity is that LA has suggested that members just..... relocate to another gym as a resolution to this permanent, last minute closure of this bay plaza site. Huh??? People have been putting up with this site's nonsense for a handful of reasons (the community feel that MEMBERS provide and great fitness instructors). But the primary reason many people endure the unfavorable conditions is because of the ideal location of the gym!!! LA fitness continues to display complete and absolute disregard and care for the community they serve. They are disgusting!

I’ve never left a review before, but this gym has pushed me to my limit. The list of issues is endless. The air conditioning was broken for months this past summer — forcing members, many of whom are minorities, to work out in unsafe heat. The facility is filthy, machines are constantly broken, and the saunas and pool were actually shut down by the health commissioner (yes, you read that right).

The leg press has been broken for months, weights are scattered everywhere, and half the benches are ripped apart. The squat rack is always missing plates, and sometimes you can’t even find a 10 lb weight. Every machine feels like it’s about to fall apart.

I tried to stick it out, but you can’t even have a decent workout here — it’s impossible to track progress when everything’s broken or missing. I finally canceled my membership. This gym is an embarrassment and should be inspected immediately.

I'm giving this place a one star. How come many of the activities there don't work anymore? How do you claim to advertise a basketball, a pool/sauna, working showers, and a working gym when all of that isn't the case? Why has this been a problem since LA fitness took over 10 months ago. Reclaim it because the cut in hours, the countless negative reviews, and the lies being told is not a good look for business. I can't even go to the gym because a lot of the machines are broken, it's hot there which is completely appalling for the usage of the environment, and then I don't have a reason to look forward to using the sauna or any of the waterworks. I'm supposed to sweat on the way home when I can just take a shower? Which one or two only works btw, one of the doors not even closing properly? Yall gotta get outta buisness immediately cause there is NO WAY this place can keep running with these problems.

I give two stars because of the staff who have no control over the plenty of red flags going on. Xavier was very helpful and I feel bad they have to pay the consequences of this big corporation scamming their paying customers. This LA fitness shouldn’t have been open due to ALL THE AMENITIES NOT FUNCTIONING, meaning no sauna, no pool, no basketball court and I didn’t see the Pilates studio either. The only “amenity” that works is the kids club for which u have to pay $10 on top of your monthly membership. So tell us WHY? Are you charging $50 monthly???? PLUS the fee that’s charged 2 weeks into your subscription? This is straight robbery, I’ll keep my planet fitness membership because at least they’re transparent on what they offer.
Keep big corps accountable. This is not the fault of the manager or any staff member.

It’s tiresome that I pay a monthly membership and an annual fee and do not get all the amenities. The sauna and steam room have been closed until further notice by the HEALTH DEPT since April. I took a hiatus from the gym in June and just started back in September lo and behold the issue still hasn’t be rectified. I am not sure who is the owner or if this is under the corporation, but it’s unacceptable. I now have to drive out of my way to get to another gym, when this one is literally a 5 min drive from my house but there is always an issue. Then to be able to use a signature flu I would have to pay over 100 dollars more. Do better by the community you’re in and stop half assing people. Because LA Fitness surely has no problem taking their monthly and annual fees out, quick fast and in a hurry. And when you ask when the issue will be handled the employees have no info or just look lost. Also, this forbid there is no one with a key to the group class room for someone to use early in the AM alone. When I ask when the person would be in the person at the front desk had no clue. Why isn’t some there to open up the classroom, when the the gym opens? That would make sense. Do better by people who are paying a membership and want to support the gym that is in the community.

3 years ago I made a nice review for XSports and gave it 3/5 stars. Couldn’t find how to make a new review I edited my old one. LA fitness taking over this particular site doesn’t make sense to me bc now I’ve been paying the same price for less service. No longer 24hr, no more pool, no sauna, no steam room, no basketball court, and no more massages and too many “requires service” machines. The lack of sanitary stations and exposed foam on machines are annoying. The maintenance for the women’s bathroom has gone downhill. I’ve stayed to see the “improvements” but no thank you. Look elsewhere.

I’ve been a member since it was X-sport. Joined in 2020 with my husband who had been a member prior to that. They used to have childcare swimming pool, spa services. And used to be open 24hrs. Now they don’t have anything besides the basic gym and even permanently closed the upstairs bathrooms. Which makes absolutely no sense especially considering the fact that I’m a woman. They are no longer 24hrs, they open at 5 am and they are never open on time.!. Gym members arrive at open only to have to wait to get in. I went Friday and had to leave because they were over 30 minutes late and needed to get to work on time and would not have been able to if I stayed and waited. After LA fitness acquired x-sport it’s been a shit show!!!!!!!

Went towards the basketball court and not only are the windows covered in black tape but the inside looks like someone threw a grenade in there and left it as is. What constitutes a 3.5/4.1 rating for LA Fitness Baychester? The lack of functioning equipment and repair, lack of cleanliness throughout the entire gym, little to no air ventilation for months, a lack of professionalism and transparency, and the list goes on. When LA Fitness took over X Sport Fitness almost a year ago, we did not expect a miracle and everything would be brand new. What we expected were improvements, progress, and updates. However, things have gone from bad to worse with no real explanations and a lot of excuses. Most important, there is no real concern or care for the well-being of the instructors and members. I can speak for myself and others that the main reason we continue to go to LA is because of these instructors, NOT management! The instructors and members deserve so much better and are clearly not getting it. I would not be surprised if this gym closes. By the looks of it, it is headed in that direction.

AC has been broken since April, it was fixed very briefly in May for about 2 minutes and broke again. Wipes for machines are constantly out and the equipment is never in its place even at 5am when it’s been opened first thing in the morning. Pool & Sauna have been shut down by the health commissioner :/ it seems like the owner of this LA is only replying to positive reviews here and disregarding all of the negative ones highlighting the many issues in this gym. Invest in a private gym if you can.

I have been a member of the gym at the Mall at Bay Plaza since it opened. It was called Xsports fitness. Those signs remain despite the fact that La Fitness took over a year ago. Emails have been sent, folks have reached out to public officials and direct complaints to management were made about the condition of the gym. The conditions are not good for your health. The air condition has not worked for almost three years. Yesterday a class had over 50 people I could see the sweat pouring from folks it had to be at least 90 degrees in that room . I was waiting for the class after it. I mentioned to staff that it seemed to be a health hazard. The response was the instructor packs them in. No discounts to memberships no offer of water and there is no water fountain on the level where classes take place.
The complaints fall on deaf ears.
I figured it out. At first I thought it was only because of the location of the gym and color of the membership. Now I realize that a big part of it is because we have allowed it . They have our money, the instructors still come and we still come to the classes. There is no incentive. We have a routine that includes going to the gym and it is hard to break that routine. I have another gym that I go to but I like the Monday class at Bay Plaza so I am guilty as well.
Great location for a gym. La Fitness you need to do better forget the excuses treat us like the gyms in Long Island.

So, after not coming here for a few months I finally came back, ready to lose some weight and use the facilities this place offers, unfortunately tho, I was completely left confused as to finding out literally 80% of the machines DON'T EVEN WORK here anymore! The pool and Jacuzzi? I understand that's hard to maintain, trust me I do, but the steam and sauna room too? And for 4 months? I kid you not when I say this, their steam room has been out of service since FEBRUARY, 4 MONTHS 😡. Why bother even getting a membership in this dump, I'm seriously considering getting a membership elsewhere. All the lockers are damaged and some of them have old moldy clothes within them, Yes, moldy. Most of the machines upstairs like the treadmills, and other equipment are damaged. And the staff has less sense than a toddler banging letter blocks together. This place is a joke to the Bronx, LA fitness and gyms as a whole. Do better and don't go to this disgusting place

PLEASE READ UPDATE BELOW ⤵️: I like this gym a lot good vibes. I usually came around 4pm which was great but also last few days came around 10 am . I was able to utilize the 7 day pass which was great and came EVERY single day lol. The elliptical machines were dusted by the staff when I got there around 4pm. I didnt like the fact that the dumbbells where everywhere and couldnt find the weight I wanted which made me feel overwhelmed so I had to leave that area and stick to the machines. The hydromassage bed smelled bad like sweat and I didn't see any cleaning supplies the first day but that was my fault for not asking because later I did see it was in the hallway before you go in the private massage room. Needless to say I had to get a shower after that. That was probably my only main negative. It seems to get crowded around 5 pm or so like most gyms. This hydro massasager does seem stronger than others I have tried. I like they have more than one and you can close the door for privacy. I was told day 1 that on the guest pass I could go to the classes but in the second day I made sure I got there on time for the class and was told that it was not included which made me go there for 6:30pm to do tai chi when I could have just came earlier and did my regular workout smh. That did leave me a bit upset. It was also the hottest week and I noticed the air conditioner was not working on the main workout floor. There were portables but it was extra hot which kind of made me not sure if I wanted to move forward if this will be an issue the entire summer of 2023. I didn't try the pool but looks cool. Infrared Sauna was nice and relaxing. The locker rooms were a bit messy but not terrible. I also noticed that a locker had a top in there from someone's bottle and it was in there the next day too so wasn't cleaned too well but guess can't clean or check all of them so I get it. All in all other than the issues I mentioned I like the gym and I would recommend this gym to others.

🚨Jan 12, 2025 UPDATE: The gym is currently under New Management which is LA Fitness and to be honest I'm not fully happy with the new change primarily because I have had issues where I'm going to do Yoga and there are no cleaning supplies present this has happened on more than one occasion where I had to run upstairs in order to get cleaning supplies. Today I went throughout the whole gym upstairs and all and there were actually no wipes. I went to the front desk and asked management and they said we are aware of the issue but there is nothing we can do. I was literally annoyed and now I feel like I have to bring my own Clorox wipes or Lysol wipes as a backup just in case because this has happened more than once but usually at least I can get some upstairs but not this time. I never had that issue in the past because we had paper towel and we had the spray. There was also no paper towel today in the bathroom and many of the stalls lacked toilet paper. In the women's locker room today someone has had their clothes and bathroom essentials in the locker without a lock for several weeks. The other issue that I have is that the spa area has been shut down for the last 2-3 months and the only thing that I've been told is that LA fitness does not normally offer those things but I don't think that that is fair to people who have been going to this gym for years. There has not been much communication at all which I do feel is very unprofessional I feel like an email or something should be sent to those that are currently paying their money to be at this gym and we're under the expectations that these amenities would be a part of the package. Not happy because I love the infrared sauna and the massage bed...

After sitting with Jeph and discussing a plan he gave me the confidence that I needed to start the process. This is unacceptable for the members whom use the Bay Plaza location paying for services not offered. Lengthy delay in opening swimming pool, whirlpool, steam, and sauna. Again, since the day transition, we, the members, are not getting what we paid for. Air-conditioning the use of floor fans to keep a hot gym floor cool.
Excuse after excuse and appears no remedy in sight.
November 2024 to this present date, no pool or adjoining area. What administrative credit will the Bay Plaza patrons receive. The seniors in the Co op City area water activities and dislike being dissatisfied every visit to a non functional gym at this time.

Please train your staff better. Had a very upsetting experience this morning. I walked into the gym just before 9:30. Another woman walked in at the same time as me. This woman just ran past the check-in desk and nobody said anything to her. I’ve been going to this gym for five years and I always check in but after seeing that what’s the point? I proceeded to walk by the desk too, and then I got stopped by a light skinned male with an afro. I asked him why was I stopped when the other woman wasn’t? He said “I didn’t see her I saw you”. There was nobody else at the gym if he was paying attention and doing his job, he would’ve seen her. I told him to go ask her because there’s no way that they’re gonna force the rules & ignore this woman. He told me that he would, but he stood there still. I yelled at him “GO”! Then I proceeded to walk to the check-in desk where a light skinned woman with wavy hair admitted to me that she saw the other woman too. She claimed that she did not stop that lady because “she thought we were together”. I told her “I don’t know who the hell that is”. If you’re going to enforce the check and policy go ahead, but enforce this policy and everyone don’t pick and choose.
And don’t treat me like I’m doing something wrong when your staff is not doing their jobs properly. I am planning to go back to the gym soon because I enjoyed the class that I took there. If that happens again, I’m going to speak to the manager. And also, I would like to add to the fact that prior to this experience, the air conditioning upstairs was not working for at least a month. My workout became very uncomfortable to the point. I thought I was gonna pass out. Also, when I tried to cancel my membership via email, I never heard back.

This gym (X Sport at the time) got a 3 star rating out of me 7 years ago. But now?! If I could give 0 I would. The gym has no AC they think the couple of fans they have throughout the area is enough?! This place STINKSSSS! It’s musty and the good machines are broken such as the hip thrust machine and the leg press. A couple of the cable machines were broken too. This is just unacceptable. The place is dim and doesn’t give the slightest motivation to be your best self. Oh and the locker room is filled with naked women that want to chat for 30 minutes after their Zumba class. Good luck trying to grab a mirror just to fix your hair. I left to the New Rochelle location after doing three sets of cable kick backs I just could not get a good leg workout. This place needs a complete remodeling from the aesthetics to management. WILL NEVER RETURN ✌🏻

(Old review) This gym used to be well kept. Now it’s just very unorganized and messy. This gym used to provide samples of supplements. This grabbed my attention because it drove me to look more into the product and eventually buying it at the end of the day for my fitness needs/goals. Now they don’t even care about providing their samples. Front desk sometimes not attentive to guests and care more about their side convos instead of just checking us in to get us out of the way. Great gym overall. Great equipment, usually clean and great amenities and classes but perhaps not paying attention to the smaller things that are important to everyone! With time it seems they are growing careless of customer service

Not sure what’s going on with the customer service of this place. But for the people answering phones. They need more training on how to speak professional to your PAYING CLIENTELE. I have been going to this location for years when it was XSport Fitness. And ever since it was acquired by LA Fitness I have been extremely disappointed in their services, hygiene, but most of all the horrible customer service. I will be canceling my membership. The equipment is impressive, and the classes are enjoyable. No matter the time of day, I come here it never seems to be overcrowded. The customer service is excellent, and the amenities, along with the location, are a big plus. Overall, I really like visiting this location; it feels quite luxurious. Do not waste your time even considering signing up with this location. AC has been broken the last couple of months. Equipment has been “scheduled for maintenance or repair” for over a year (no exaggeration). Benches are torn to the point where the foam is exposed. All or most cable machines are out of order. Smaller weights are nowhere to be found and this is the only gym that requires collateral to rent out mats. I honestly don’t know how this place is still in business or why the hell LA fitness took this location over from xsport. Oh yeah basketball court has been “under renovation” for over two years. LA fitness took over as of july 2024, previously xsport fitness. I was hoping with the new management, the gym would improve. However I was wrong. Gym continues to be filthy. The cleaning team does try their best but, its not enough cleaning staff. Machine continue to break down. Upholstery on the equipment have not improved and 90 percent of the machines are in dire need of upholstery repair. Managmnet seems to not care of the overall condition of the facility and its sad.
Ac is also broken. As soon as you walk in feels like a suana. Management seems to have little care about correcting the hvac situation. Very possible for someone to get a heat stroke. In addition the positive reviews are all written from staff, to negate the actual reviews from paying members.

Signed a 3 day trial Saturday, check the cameras lol not necessary though …. Used it the two previous days, I come in today and they tell me it’s not activated as strategy to basically create another sales conversation when I told the guy Saturday I wasn’t able to sign up and just needed a gym for a few days, but no you guys rather embarrass someone and tell me I never set up my free trial, so ridiculous, I value fitness I workout for my mental health, the things I gotta deal with at gyms because people want to be ignorant including staff. Friendly staff, great classes, and trainers, but the AC being off or not working is a little too intense at the gym for me. The air needs to circulate throughout the entire gym.

Edit: ever since LA has taken over, the quality of the gym experience here has gone down drastically. There have been no adjustments to the AC in the main workout area and the machines are deteriorating. Literally falling apart. This does not match up to the reputation LA fitness claims to have in their other gyms.

I’ve been going to this gym since it first opened around 2017. It hasn’t been the same since LA fitness took it over. Gym is no longer 24hrs. My biggest concern is the lack of sanitation/hygiene. They rarely have disinfecting wipes on the floor, which is disgusting since we are at the height of flu/covid/norovirus season. When you call corporate or speak to management in the gym, the excuse is they are only given a budget of $600 for supplies every two weeks. Is that an excuse, to tell a customer. At least put out a spray bottle with some paper towel. Instead of taking over so many locations, take over what you can financially handle. For there to be at least a week w/out machines getting cleaned down, I can only imagine the amount of bacteria on them. This was never an issue when it was xsports fitness. I’m tired of reporting them to the health dept.

I had been a member of this gym when it was under different management. I was concerned by the sloppy pandemic response at the gym and the trainer I had did not understand my disabilities.

I started training at LA Fitness which was a big Improvement. I just learned that LAF took over this site so this morning so this morning I checked it out. I met Jeph, the Fitness Director, and he took a long time listening to my story and my needs. He introduced me to a trainer who he thought would work very well with me. I will begin training tomorrow morning!

I went to this location after a bad experience at my home gym on Eastchester road with LETTY RANDY AND DOMINIC …
BUT THIS GYM IS DEFINITELY A BREATH OF FRESH AIR SUPER HELPFUL SUPER CLEAN AND AMAZING STAFF (xavior and the young man next to him ) welcomed me and explained where everything was and every question was answered with knowledgeable enthusiasm and great energy , the gym is super big and has a lot more to offer than the eastchester location so it wasn’t as crowded and it seemed the people who were there were there to workout out and not model their new bbls.. I give it five stars for amazing customer service cleanliness space and WORKING WIFI !!!!

To think this gym would have improved after being purchased by LA Fitness…. But the definitely didn’t happen.. the gym’s maintenance went extremely down and the staff and management are clueless when it comes to costumer service, gym sanitation, and gym inventory… for the last close to 4 months the male bathroom upstairs always smells like sewage and the bathroom stall is out of service.. The male locker bathroom always has no soap or dispensers, the smell of piss is a normality, the sauna is never sanitary/cleaned and all the lockers are damaged… Upstairs the majority of the workout machine’s are out of service or damaged, the bench all have ripped holes exposing the padding, the turf area is completely black because it is never sanitized or cleaned, and there are only 3 sanitation wipe dispensers in the whole gym that are consistently are empty. There is no way I am going to go from paying $15-$20 a month to paying $40-$60 a month for the the same gym that has now become worst than it was before

I have mixed feelings. Was thinking of switching from 24hour fitness and got a pass to the Baychester location. Location was ok, just a few things that need adressing but I didn't realize you have to pay for parking after 2 hours. Why would I want to pay for parking if I become a member. On top of that you can't use the pass at any other facility to see if the club is a fit for you. I usually workout for 2 hours, then shower and go to work. Will take my membership somewhere else.

This place used to be my sanctuary like therapy. With its nice amenities, even if I didn't want to work out, I would just enjoy the pool, the jacuzzi, the sauna, and the hydromassage. The place was clean, had disinfecting spray, paper towels, clean bathrooms, lockers, and a caring staff. But ever since LA fitness took over this gym went down hill, bathrooms are barely clean, presoaked disinfecting wipes are dry by the time you get to the equipment, broken machines and dispensers through the areas but what really made want to cancel my membership is that this gym is no longer 24 hours which sucks since I used to come after work specifically on weekends and now they close at 7pm, even late at night when I couldn't sleep I was one of those that would come at 10pm workout for 2 hours and get a shower after so I can sleep like a baby but now they close at 10 on Friday "really!". I used to be a member of LA and went to Xsport because of exactly these reasons it's like disappointment has now followed me here to ruin my peace. It went from Therapy to --> Fustration.
