This location is super convenient because of where it’s situated and the fact that it has a parking lot, which is usually a headache in NY. Great variety of machines, but here comes the big BUT… it’s a mess all the time. Nobody re-racks anything, everything is left scattered around, when you go to grab a dumbbell you either can’t find its pair or there are none at all. There’s no friendly atmosphere, and I’ve never seen staff walking the floor doing routine checks to make sure things are in order. It’s really hard to complete a proper workout. It’s such a shame — such a great location that they’re not taking advantage of. I wanted to love it, but unfortunately, I can’t.

I’m really disappointed with 1111 Marcus Ave LA gym. Before I joined, they promised a heated pool and Jacuzzi available 24/7 for five days. But, sadly, the pool was never heated, and the Jacuzzi was always cold. Whenever I asked about it, they said it would be fixed by next week, but it’s been over two months, and nothing has changed. Plus, one of the front employees seemed disrespectful. I decided to cancel my membership because of him and the pool and Jacuzzi.

I love LA Fitness but this location is gross. It is one of the smaller locations and has more employees than the bigger ones but somehow they haven't figured out how to properly clean it. There are roaches all over the showers and mens locker room. They used to have maggots in the steam room but decided to throw away the rubber mats which helped but they still don't clean consistently.
Even though it claims to be a signature club it doesn't have all the amenities that make a signature location like courts basketball/ racket ball. Until recently the hot tub was out for literal years. Also as mentioned before they have more than the other clubs employees wise but only one or two who actually clean. This location needs an overhaul.

I’ve been a member at the Howard Beach LA Fitness for a little over 6 months. The staff—from reception to trainers to the cleaning crew—are awesome. I really appreciate the pool and sauna amenities, and the overall space is great. There are really good people at this location.

That said, my main concerns are with the men’s bathroom and pool area. While the bathroom has improved somewhat, paper towels are almost never available, and there are always bugs in the shower area. The pool area also seems to lack consistent cleaning—I’ve seen the same debris in the same spots for weeks, which makes me question whether the area is being properly maintained.

For a Signature location, I expected higher standards. It would help if cleaning wipes for machines were consistently stocked, or if spray bottles with disinfectant and paper towels were provided. Having staff tend to equipment during downtime would also make a big difference.

I will be updating this post with pictures within the next month, and I truly hope things improve. With more consistent attention to cleanliness in the men’s facilities and proper upkeep of the pool area, this location could truly be stellar.

The customer service at the juice bar at this location is extremely disappointing. I had to wait 10 minutes just to place an order, even though no one else was ordering at the time. When we finally did order, the server, Whitley, took our order at 12:13 PM, but kept taking other people’s orders while we were left waiting even longer. Isn’t my time and money worth the same as everyone else’s? The photo I took at 12:17 PM shows that our order still hadn’t even been started. At 12:21 she started l, after we started to complain about it. This is unacceptable. The owner really needs to step up and improve operations and training. I went to this location for a few years. I had an unfortunate health problem and returned to the pool after two years. The water is disgusting. There is a rim of brown on the wall at the top water level. It is clearly a rim of skin cells (having owned a pool at one point). I nearly vomited. I plan to call the board of health.

I requested a free 3-day Guest pass @ 5am on 07/24/2025, I went to LA Fitness the same morning at 9:30am. just moved into the neighborhood and am looking for a gym i can feel comfortable. I showed my email confirmation and the guest pass ID with bar code. VERONICA took care of me and was showing me the plans, I told her I was going to think about it, that i was looking for the right fit for me. When people are paying for a service every month they want what they pay for. This L.A.Fitness is the worst I ever been to and I have been a member when they took over Ballay's. The weight equipment and benches are torn or missing. No disinfectant wipes or paper towels to sanitize equipment before or after using. The sauna smells along with majority time out of service 7 months out of the year. This is the first hot tub that wets your face and hair up more than your body which attitude resembles the staff. Majority of the staff has attitudes and do not like answering questions, but they all have the same response, " Not sure or don't know ". They need a new manager and replace some of the staff or just shutdown this facility all together. L.A. Fitness should be ashamed with there name on the door of this location how it's managed. I am sending a email to corporate and hopefully major changes will occur because the community deserves much better or equal as if it was in the suburbs. Once again unacceptable and no excuses when members are paying there hard earned money for service that's advertised and promised.

My only concern with this location is that the stairmasters and even some treadmills are out of order for weeks on end. It’s absurd that out of the seven stairmaster machines, only three, if you’re lucky, might work. I’ve witnessed other members checking if the machines are available and working before leaving disappointed. Members pay their money for a membership to work out properly, and we need the machines to function for that to happen!

When I purchased my membership at this club, I specifically joined for access to the jacuzzi and the pool. I was told at the time of purchase that the jacuzzi was temporarily out of service but would be working again within one or two weeks. That was four months ago.

Since then, I’ve been repeatedly told “it will be working next week,” but it’s still not fixed. No updates, no transparency — just false promises.

This feels like deceptive advertising and a way to take people’s money without delivering what was promised. If I had known the jacuzzi would be unavailable for this long, I never would have signed up.

These gyms in the queens NY area are trash now.
Poorly maintained and managed. Especially the one at Howard Beach
Joined this gym cause they said they have sauna. Been paying for that facilities. NONE OF WHICH WORKS. In all the close-by areas.
Men’s Bathroom facilities are very poorly maintained, the showers are constantly covered in mold and garbage been left there for days and weeks, mold that is hazardous to human health not being cleaned.
The gym equipments need maintenance and services. Replacing handles
There’s only three sanitizing areas to service the gym. All of them NEVER have any sanitizer. You’re forced to work out in other persons sweats and filth. Clinically unhealthy and completely unethical for a gym to serve the public.
The front desk staff and managers never seems to have any idea, care, interest or information about the situation or repair of the facilities.

This LA Fitness is the only convenient location to where I live SADLY. The staff are very moody especially the receptionist woman with the locs. I walk in and she’ll just look at me and look away even if I greet her, I get ignored. It’s very rude being that I’m such a warm person and stand firmly on hospitality. The establishment itself needs lots of work, this is the dirtiest LA I’ve been to and the dark lighting doesn’t help. The equipment needs to be checked throughly, there are several machines that stay “out of order” or broken without acknowledgment for months on end and when you bring it to their attention they just brush you off. The locker room reeks! The pool seems fine, I’ve yet to take a gander at it. They finally put up a screen for scheduled classes. Imagine walking into the stretching area (big room with mirrors) and ask what time the class starts and ends, then being met with attitude and huffing and puffing and being told that teens don’t pay attention anymore. I’m 25 and there’s wasn’t any information to know when a class is happening. The staff is majority Black, which is SEVERELY DISAPPOINTING, fix the attitudes, be more welcoming, and please fix the machines. They only get 2 stars because of their hours and the young man who does the later shift (he has amazing hospitality).
