I’m really disappointed with the front desk staff at this gym. Every time I come in, they act like they couldn’t care less about the members. They’re constantly on their phones, barely acknowledge people when they walk in, and show no respect or professionalism. On top of that, the worker at the smoothie bar is just as rude — no greeting, no effort to be polite, and it feels like they don’t want to be there. It’s frustrating to walk into a place that’s supposed to motivate you to work out but instead be met with attitude and a lack of basic customer service. The gym itself might be fine, but the staff’s behavior creates a negative environment that really needs to be addressed.

I'm impressed by the outstanding service provided by Isabel, the cleaning lady at the women's bathroom. She's diligent, polite, and ensures the room is immaculately clean, including the mirrors and floors. It's experiences like these that make me appreciate the hard work of dedicated staff.

This place is dirty, mostly in disrepair and managed by an individual who thinks everything is out of her control— I joined a week ago, for cycle classes, the pool, the jacuzzi and that they have individual screens on the machines. Guess what’s not in service? The cycle classes, the pool, the jacuzzi, and of about 28 treadmills, 3-4 screens work. But this is all out of the manager’s control. She can’t even call in a service technician, or be bothered while I asked to speak to a manager and she sat there chatting up an old friend. The place is filthy and ran without a single care in the world.

Additionally, the male employee who took my photo for my membership took one where my head is cut off and all you can see are my breasts. Crazy move and outrageously.

Update: it’s been a month now and they pool and jacuzzi have yet to be fixed— machines with “scheduled for service” haven’t been serviced for an entire month either.

Has everything you need and never too crowded, but I don't go during peak times. My major complaint is that the wet wipes to wipe down the equipment after use are inadequate. They're thin and barely wet. This establishment needs some serious and thick alcohol wipes to clean everything when you're done using it. People sweat and put their body all over the place and the current wipes just suck. Could also be a little colder. Just a tad

I finally stopped into this location after debating for a long time as a planet fitness user and did not regret that I did. Dylan was extremely helpful and very personable and made me feel far less anxious about the whole experience. Im not sure I would've enjoyed the experience as much had I met someone else. The gym is fantastic but what is really drawing me in is the sauna!! I will definitely be returning!

Do not sign up for personal training. I had a terrible experience with Brianna the personal training manager, as well as the front desk staff. I called multiple times to find out what I needed to pause my membership before I was billed due to an upcoming surgery and was told “she’ll call you back” repeatedly but never received a call back until after I was billed (basically after they gets the monthly commission from my account) I was told I could submit my doctors note and I would receive a refund. I sent in a doctors note, received no refund, called back and was told that she can’t do it and I have to contact corporate. Corporate tells me there’s no ability to refund me since the letter was uploaded after the date of billing. And the best part? My doctors note wasn’t approved and they are STILL billing me. Don’t waste your time at this scam of a gym.

I love this gym, pool, sauna, and spa. Spa has been broken on and off but they have it set up to be fixed soon. On the 30th we will know. The gym has everything you need. Any machine plus personal trainers, (extra$). Clean, spacious and even a sandwich and drink bar (not alcohol). Staff is lovely. Join, you'll love it. ❤️♡♡♡

Wifi here is absolute trash. Do not count on it. Building itself has crappy cell service inside. Cable machines are usually missing parts for attachment rendering them useless. Free workout area is nice. Squat racks are great. Oh and did i mention.. WiFi is garbage. Makes me wanna take another star from the review but i got a good pump. Do better management.

I joined this gym excited to work out. I signed up for the gym through my Health insurance $28 and personal trainer another $200 per month. I gave my fiance a 7 day pass so she can try out the gym. She was all excited to try it and they told her she can’t use the gym bc she signed up for la fitness back in 2014. Anyway they didn’t let her try the gym not even for a day. They made her signed up basically made the SALE. We just had a baby and we are both busy barely have time. She told me to cancel her membership I called explained the situation that we wanted to cancel her membership bc if she signs up it would be through my health insurance and I was advised to contact the operations manager well she called me back (Francesca) she was extremely rude telling me I can’t call for my fiance and she needs to call etc. she didn’t even let me explain it was basically like I killed someone. She could’ve explained herself like a normal person and not in an angry manner. Anyway there’s no maintenance in the bathrooms they smell so bad. Other than that, I only give my personal trainer a 10. He was nice and explained the workouts. I wish they had a different manager and we could’ve solved the problem. I will join unique instead.

Some equipment is janky, rusted and dated. Very few machines. All cardio equipment feels ancient and some don't even work or display info properly. Locker room could be cleaner too. CrossFit mat in the center seems pointless, probably could've been used for more machines (like it used to!) Big dumbbell rack which is nice. Really wish it was like the Farmingville location!

I have been a member at this gym for 4 years +. This gym has treated me quite well in the past, clean, friendly staff, and equipment always in good standing. It has declined incredibly, they take 1 month or more to fix machines, they don’t clean anything, and the staff is always on their phone. Why doesn’t the manager send someone to clean the disgusting bathroom that reeks like piss and shit. No paper towels ever. It has been 4 times in a row that it smells like ass, next time I’ll just start mopping cause it is truly sad. I only go to this gym cause it has a sauna and farmingville doesn’t, but honestly I will only go to farmingville cause hygiene and maintenance is very important.

DIRTY! DIRTY! DIRTY! I was a member for 3 days and canceled my membership. Literal dirt and dust all over the floor. No hand soap in the locker room. The universal equipment has no accessories to work out with. The dumbbells are in absolutely no order and rarely are the matching dumbbells next to each other. Very little to no sanitizer to wipe equipment with. People actually work out with no shoes. I switched from another major local gym that is far superior to try to save money...I guess you get what you pay for.
I complained to management and they said "this gym is clean compared to other LA fitness and call corporate if you don't like it."
They are aware of the disarray of the gym but yet have no problems taking your money!

This is a great gym, but it has 1 massive flaw.

About 40% of Americans work a 9-5 the week, yet this gym CLOSES the basketball court at 5pm during the week…? This is a new policy and it is so unreasonable and exclusionary. When I asked why, they claim it’s “because there was a fight”…I’m not sure if they don’t want a certain demographic there, but it feels like it. They “make up for it” by having hours extended to 7pm on the weekends, but it’s incredibly unfair for us full-time workers who want to blow off some steam.

I’ll take this down if the rule is reasonably changed/altered.

For the amount of money it costs to sign up for a membership, I would expect better maintenance of the equipment. It’s frustrating that more than half of the cardio machines upstairs aren’t working, and it would be helpful if they at least had “out of order” signs on them for clarity.

All these folk must be getting a free membership for these positive reviews, or may have never been to this location at gateway plaza.

Yeah, it does have plenty of equipment to work with (as long as you don't go on rush hour of course)

But they could really step up their game on cleanliness.
Go to any of the water fountains and see that nasty pink slime on the drains.... if they can't even bother themselves to spray something and wipe that down, I can't imagine what else they are neglecting hygiene wise.

UPDATE: so over the past couple months they are doing better on cleanliness. However I would like to see the heavy punching bags back at the group fitness classes.

I am not sure how they hold the kickbox cardio group classes without these.

Extra update: the hours on the weekends suck now. Closes too early

Updated review. Of course the filthy conditions and broken machines remain. I have been a member since 2011. I really enjoyed the yoga classes with Toniann. Her classes are exactly what I need I have tried many other classes and most other instructors I find too fast and not at all what I wish to get from yoga. I live between the Patchogue and Farmingville locations but did travel to Centereach for Toniann’s yoga. Now that Centereach is closed there are no longer any 4:30 yoga classes anywhere. There needs yoga somewhere closer than Pt Jeff or Lake Grove now that Centereach is gone. Today’s class at 11 am had over 30 people. I only wish there were other options as anything would be better. Emails are unanswered and local staff is not really engaged, nice but not helpful. Funny only the positive reviews receive a response 🤨

Dirty by, AC on in November, broken equipment, local staff had no authority to do anything. I so wish there were more gyms around other than just other LA Fitness locations!

I’ve been coming to LA Fitness for about 4 months now, and while I have to give credit to the employees—they’re really nice and always helpful—the overall experience has been disappointing. The gym equipment is in dire need of attention. Many of the treadmills have been broken for weeks, the Stairmaster has been out of order for what feels like forever, and don’t even get me started on the cycling machines. It’s frustrating to see these issues go unresolved with no sense of urgency. And if you’re looking for dumbbells, good luck—many are either missing or never put back in place. For a gym that should be maintaining their equipment, it’s clear they aren’t prioritizing these repairs. It’s unfortunate because the staff is great, but the lack of upkeep is making it hard to stay motivated.

If i could give it zero stars i would, I wouldn’t reccomend this location to anyone. The staff here are very passive agressive and rude and it honestly seems like they hate their job. Most of the time coming here a couple of machines are consistently getting broken here and lastly you’re going to find different kinds of people anymore but they are more stranger than you’re normal amount generally. This gym sucks.
