Unreliable pool use, spa use and sauna use. Always breaking down. Also was told $29.99 monthly fee was for use at any gym. Months later told the opposite. I only have use at one gym. I find they dont tell you everything up front but tell you only info that will get you to buy a gym membership. They rely on the fact its in the contract you signed. I asked many questions and an important one was is this membership good for all la fitness gyms. They said it was. I signed. Now I find its not. Im not happy about this. If the spa, pool and sauna was always working. I'd have less complaints. When everything is working its a great gym.

Went in with a day pass and the guys giving us a tour let us try the gym out, when I felt it wasn’t for me I let them know and I explained everything felt like a sales pitch when they tried to cut me friend and family deals to pay for the gym year in a lump sum. Manager immediately got hostile and started arguing with us and stirring things up. Never coming back. Manager who was hostile immediately was Mike. Most likely mad he wasted his time trying to push a year subscription on us.

The desk staff are friendly, and at least in my experience, the machines are mostly working or repaired relatively quickly. I always see a guy around cleaning, though the men's room does skeeve me.

The few interactions I've had with the "sign on staff" have felt negative and forced; they were very much trying to force my guests to sign up, and even called one of them the next day!

For suggestions to improve. BOLT. THE. RACKS. DOWN. And I'd really love a deadlift platform too.

The place is filthy dirty and at all times 20% of the equipment doesn’t work. Men’s locker room smells horrible as it is never cleaned. I told staff on numerous occasions thatthere was a locker filled with garbage and it smelled. From 7/15 to today 9/17 it is still not cleaned.
No one re-racks weights and NO ONE CLEANS THE EQUIPMENT EVER. They provide tiny wipes which are usually not filled so most people sweat all over machines and leave it.

I've been coming here for almost a year and I can't wait to go to a different gym. It's kind of ok if you can come before 5:30pm, and the staff are nice, but once it's after 6 it's a free for all. No one puts weights back, everything is scattered and impossible to find, and people hog up resources. If there was a Crunch fitness closer, I'd leave this gym in a heartbeat.

Unbelievable how shitty this gym is. Squat rack is missing plastic mold on rack, the others aren’t even bolted in, half the equipment isn’t bolted to the ground, squat rack is missing safety bars, or safeties slide off because it’s not bolted in. It’s been like this for at least two years.

It probably takes about $2 and 30 seconds to fix, that’s how little they care about your safety.

Also the gym is short like four barbells, so if you come during busy hours, there’s not enough barbells even if there are open squat racks and benches.

These problems are unique to this locations, nearby LA Fitnesses do not have these problems.

Unfortunately I have to agree with some of the bad reviews here regarding management and customer service. Today the fire alarm was going off and management has no idea when it will be turned off, but notifying members with a sign or information when they arrived would have been helpful. All they said, is “we don’t know” so I guess people can just deal with it!!

This gym is right down the block from me. It's so convenient but at the same time I'm about to cancel my membership. The machines are broken, ripped and very old. The only good thing is I found out this morning Francesca is finally gone. She was the most rude human I've met. And the moral of the employees was horrible since she came. Let's hope the new manager can bring some life back into this place. Also I thought when centereach closed they were going to bring some of the machines to the other facilities? Clearly that did not happen. The leg curl machines have been broken for some long. I have a time stamp photo from October 2024 of it being ripped up and it's even worse now May 31st 2025. How is that even acceptable? It's completely unsanitary and unable to be cleaned properly. It's a health hazard.

I went here to close my membership on March 3rd, and the staff asked me to sign to confirm the closure. As a result, they collected membership fees on March 14th, and again on April 14th. I went to confirm with them today, but the staff had a very bad attitude and said that we had not closed the membership yet. They only helped me close the membership today, and they have not refunded me two months' membership fee. This is the worst gym I have ever been to. I will never go to any branch of this brand again. If I can, I will give them zero heart.

Port Jefferson location is better than lake grove. They track their weights. Treadmills are easier to use and adjust speed and incline while running. The reason for 3 stars is that the benches have tears in them and that can be difficult to clean leading to staph infections.

I like this LA fitness a lot because it seems like their machines are a little newer. They have a smaller selection but it hits all the buckets you need.
I was on the hanging leg lift equipment (barcode D43144) and the arm rests are absolutely ripped to practically shreds, making it near impossible to use the equipment. It has to have been like this for a while, making it clear that this location doesn’t prioritize looking over their equipment to upkeep the maintenance.

If you don’t take spin classes or swim in the pool don’t bother joining this gym. The equipment is so old and the gym is dirty. The mats are filthy. The carpet has a yellow tinge to it. The staff doesn’t accept bad or honest reviews well. You’re better off joining Planet Fitness down the road for a cheaper price.

I walked in looking to try out the gym and right off the bat I was welcomed and greeted by an outstanding staff here at Port Jeff LA Fitness. The front desk manager Francesca was absolutely outstanding and helpful in pointing me to the right staff to assist me in my health journey. There are always a lot of equipment/machines that are broken and takes way too long for them to be repaired. You can always count on at least one of the cables to be broken for weeks. It’s an absolute disaster. The gym is very dirty and dingy. They removed paper towel dispensers from the gym floor. It’s only getting worse now with higher volume and less equipment to use since everything is broken.

I routinely use a few different locations in my area. Since I found out the Centereach location is closing I thought I would check out Port Jeff as a possible new location. All I can say is I was very disappointed! I found it to be "dingy" inside. Actually my first thought was "What a dump". Quite a few machines in need of repair was something I immediately noticed. Totally disappointed with the leg press machines. I was hoping this was going to be my solution when Centereach closes, now I don't know.

This is by far the worst gym I’ve ever been to.

Locker rooms are disgusting. Soap and paper towels are rarely stocked up.

Most of the equipment is old and isn’t maintained. I’ve seen the same calf machine have an out of order sign on it for a month.

40% of the cardio machines are out of order at any given time.

There’s at least a half down people working in there at all times, but the only activity seen is standing behind the front desk or sitting at the computer.

I’ve been going here for months. It’s not like this is some isolated incident or temporary issue. It’s always like this. When I went to Planet Fitness for 25% of the cost of this place, it was much cleaner and generally better maintained.

Does the DOH or OSHA not visit these places? I have no idea how people use the pool or sauna. The next pandemic will likely come from this place.

If I could give 0 stars I would. I previously praised the atmosphere at LA Fitness, but my experience on October 18th was disappointing. As a loyal member for over two years, I was dismayed by the behavior of the new Manager, Francesca D. Here is a little backstory. I joined two years ago when my dad passed away. Recently, my mother's aggressive cancer diagnosis and hospice care have necessitated my role as her caretaker. My gym membership serves as a vital outlet for both physical and mental well-being, particularly during challenging times. I went from going 5 days a week, to whenever I can get in.
On October 18th, upon scanning into the gym, I was informed of an unpaid balance. I was confused since my payment comes out automatically on the 1st. Then with an attitude she said the yellow line on the QR scanner tells me I have unpaid balance. I show her mine and it does not have the yellow line. Then I said I'm sorry my mom has been in and out of the hospital and is now in hospice dying and I didn't realize I had the balance. She just kept repeating herself. I repeated about my mother again. However, Manager Francesca D. persisted, displaying an unhelpful attitude. I explained my current financial constraints and family situation, but she remained unsympathetic. Ultimately, our interaction escalated. I said some choice words to her and left. I came in the next morning and signed my cancellation form.
Subsequently, I discovered the unpaid balance referred to yearly dues, not monthly payments. I urge LA Fitness to provide Manager Francesca D. with public relations training, as her demeanor is detrimental to the gym's reputation. Furthermore, the gym's maintenance issues persist, with broken machines remaining unrepaired.

Would give this place zero stars if I could! Equipment is always broken with “schedule for service” signs. Here this week and the pool and elevator are both not in commission. For the egregious price members pay we don’t get our moneys worth. TV next to the cafe has had the “you don’t get this channel” screen on for weeks, finally switched it from ESPN to Fox News rather than a different sports channel lol… place is a joke. Also funny to notice that the negative reviews on here get no recognition or acknowledgment but the 5 star reviews with no explanation do? Cancelling and switching to a different gym that can justify the membership price.

For starters I would leave 0 stars if I could as that is their actual rating. Let’s start with walking in, half the time you get dirty looks and stare downs by some of the female front desk staff. As you walk in first thing you realize is how unorganized everything is, you will be hunting down dumbbells and barbells (NEVER in the correct dedicated spot) which will cost you time and efficiency. Then you go upstairs and as you look for a cardio machine to use you realize that they are ALL broken.. there have been “scheduled for service” signs on some machines for longer than in the two years that I’ve been occasionally coming here. And when you finally do find a cardio machine that functions somewhat properly all you have to do is look down and immediately get disgusted at how filthy these machines are.. (this place should get shut down by health department just from how filthy dirty it is). Then you go downstairs and proceed to your workout. Immediately you notice the excessive amount of teens horsing around and simply just taking up space as they sit for 45 min on a bench just to scroll through TikTok. As they walk away leaving dumbbells all over the floor and if you’re lucky enough to see one put the weights away it’s never in the correct spot. If you are unlucky enough to need to use the restroom then god help you as you are about to step into what is the most disgustingly filthy bathroom/locker room I’ve ever seen at ANY gym. I’ve never spoken to any member that has had good feedback for this place.. whoever I talk to always says the same thing “THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTINGLY DIRTY”. It is very obvious what they think of you as a client by not even caring enough to provide you with a hygienic place to exercise. There are multiple other gyms in the area that provide much much better service. World gym is one of them, and although they have been around for over 30-40+ years their machines have been maintained, kept clean and are fully functional as where LA has only been around for less than ten years and has NEVER fixed a broken machine since. I posted just a few pictures of how dirty this place although I am tempted to expose so much more I think this should suffice for now. Last thing I want to mention that is a huge deal to many gym goers is the WIFI. There’s no cell service in this place so you are forced to rely on a WiFi connection, THE WIFI HASNT WORKED IN OVER 3 YEARS.. my buddy who works for optimum has even offered to fix it for them and they always refuse. Make it make sense

Some of the equipment appears to have been replaced (treadmills and stairmasters) recently but some of the equipment is in desperate need of replacement. Despicable that members pay a pretty costly initial fee to join plus a monthly membership fee, yet they allow beat up machines with holes in the foam to exist in their gym. They were completely unaware that the women's sauna was over 215 degrees. I like LA Fitness for all of what they offer. My only issue is that some have saunas while others don't. For example, Port Jeff's machines have been through the ringer and don't work as well as the newer machines like at Farmingville. Port Jeff's classes are better and a good mix, they have a sauna. Farmingville's machines are better, on one level and not overly crowded, but no sauna. If I could get the best of both locations less than 15 miles away, that would be great. Overall, good gym.

My first time at La fitness was the best experience i’ve ever had with any gym the employees are amazing and one of the assistant managers Jake helped me get my first membership and whenever I see him he puts a smile on my face. He also helps me with any questions I have wether it’s about the gym or my person life he is always glad to help me out. Out of all the gyms I have been to I felt the most welcomed here.

I wish I could say better, but sometimes staff are a bit bothered. And it could use some cleaning. Other than that, the classes offered are the best part. The machines are a little bit ick right now, but typical to the brand right now. Which is sad when you’re in a contract and you expect what you’re paying for.

2/24/24 Update: As promised, I'm upping my review. I was only going to give 4 stars if the broken treadmills were fixed, but since all of them were fully replaced with new, top of the line treadmills as well as some recumbent bikes, gotta give it the full 5 stars. That's far from cheap and this location just shot up to being my favorite on the Island.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
6th treadmill from the elevator emergency stops at random. Have reported it many times since joining in '21 and it's still broken. Have seen people hit the front because it stops without warning. Had it stop suddenly on me 2x this session and had to change to one of the few working machines.

As of November, more of their equipment has been sitting around broken. Just replace it if you're not going to fix it. Also more treadmills are broken. Don't come to this location.

1/30/24 Update: the seated calf presses have both been fixed. Gave an additional star for that. Was told treadmills should be repaired/replaced by 2/16/24, so I will be back to check.

Avoid this gym at all cost.
The front desk and the man to the left at the desks when you walk in are COMPLETELY unprofessional.. lied about their names as well.
He then told me absolutely no taking pictures . I am a well Known fitness influencer and will make sure I spread the word .
This gym is also filthy .

Great for any time before 4 pm .. but beware, unfortunately as soon as it passes 4 on the weekdays it gets CRAZY BUSY, all the bench presses and cables are constantly in use, and basketball court is full court games the whole time. That being said, anytime before that is great. It has everything you need equipment wise and is clean

Not only is the gym so clean but the machines are so updated which I’ve noticed other gyms don’t have that. Melissa makes you feel so comfortable in such a vulnerable situation of working out and the rest of the staff are so friendly and welcoming!! Definitely recommend !! They also take amazing care of my children in the play room while Im working out and makes me so secure in knowing my children are safe and excited to come with me.

Recently joined this LA fitness and it’s the best one in the area! Cleanest one I’ve seen in a while and everybody is great! Staff and members, Especially the assistant manager Melissa. She was an absolute pleasure to work with. Highly recommend for anybody in the area looking for an awesome gym 😊

This gym is a mix between annoying teenage boys and grown adults who think they’re 20 years younger than they are. Unfortunately, the dumbbells are always all over the place, gym is messy, overcrowded and several of the machines don’t function properly. This is overpriced and not worth the aggravation. Plenty of other gyms to leave to like I did. I didn’t last a month here before realizing what a waste of money it was.

One of the better LAs I’ve been to in Suffolk county. Unlike most of the others, the dumbbell rack is always neatly organized which I greatly appreciate. However, a couple of great machines broke and have been broken for quite some time. Hopefully they are tended to soon.
