I tried to subscribe to a trainer membership and I ran into a trainer who was unprofessional and gave me false information, and suddenly disappeared. That’s not my main problem. My problem is that the local manager said he could not do anything about it and deferred it to the corporation, and the corporation did not care at all to do anything to make up for that, all what they cared about is getting their money per the contract. I strongly advice against trainer subscription, do not be fooled by how they try to sell it to you, I had an absolutely terrible experience and if something goes wrong they wont do anything meaningful to help you.
DO NOT TRUST WHAT THEY TELL YOU.
READ EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU SIGN ANY CONTRACT, THEY CAN LIE TO YOU JUST TO GET YOUR MONEY.
After reading previous reviews, it seems that similar thing happened with other people.

Pros: 1. Free weights, 2. Sauna. Cons: 1. Pool is closed, 2. There are ~20 treadmills and I have only found one that works appropriately for running. For every other one, either the belt skips or the treadmill does not match the speed that it says on its interface (ex. the treadmill says it's going 9 mph and I am jogging at about an 8 minute mile pace).

Manager of the place welcomed me in and set me up with a day pass as I was only on holiday. The places was big and open with plenty of equipment and I had a very good workout. My husband works out at LA Fitness and I was interested in joining under a family membership. I was a previous member under Esporta and was wanting to see changes that have been made since the transition to LA Fitness and get a feel of the gym before joining. I acted upon the “3 Day Free Guest Pass”. When I arrived to work out at the gym, I was brought over to Matt, a sales associate. Matt went over the cost of different plans. There was a sign on the wall that stated “add a family member and $100 initiation fee will be waived”. I asked Matt about this and he said he didn’t know when the sign was dated and the offer was not available. We reviewed the different plans, he had me take pictures of the screen because a printout was not available. I said I would review the different memberships and get back to him. Matt became very pushy saying “well you’re here now, just sign up now”. I replied that I wanted to get a feel for the gym and review the plans before locking into a contract. Matt and I went back and forth before his neighbor, Jeff, chimed in singing the same tune and again pushing me to sign up now because “I was already there”. The situation became incredibly hostile and uncomfortable. Jeff kept interrogating me but no response was good enough, they were only interested in the sale. Jeff also laughed about my mispronunciation of a word. Jeff (Whom I’m assuming looked up my information at this point) had said that I had visited 5 clubs back when I was a member and that I was not able to use the 3-day guest pass as a former member (although not noted in policy, pass, or by corporate representation). I said that was fine and that I would leave as I was not signing up without having a full picture of what I was signing up for. At this point, suddenly, I was able to have the pass activated. I gave Matt my ID to which he commented “that doesn’t even look like you”, (mind you, i was there to work out not have my appearance commented on). He then handed me an annual contract and said I would need to sign the contract in order to use the pass and the contract would automatically begin after day 3. At this point I left. If these two degrading and unethical sales associates are a representation of LA Fitness there is no way I would give them my business.

I later called corporate who shared I shouldn’t have been forced into signing a contract by using a guest pass nor should I have been told I couldn’t use the guest pass because I wear a former Esporta member.

Additionally, I spoke with Justin, the sales manager. He informed me that Matt was incorrect, and I should have “100%” been able to have initiation fee waived by joining my husband’s plan.

The silver lining is after leaving, I went to a nearby gym that offered a daily pass. The difference was night and day. I immediately joined and could not be happier.

I have worked in the fitness industry over 20 years at gyms like Bally, World, Golds, etc. The sales people at LA Fitness will steal from you. They will tell you one price and then additional charges will appear. They will lie and say they are a district sales person and can do this or you should do that. Then when you catch the charges and politely call to get them reversed they offer you less than half of what they took as a "resolution". If you sign up at this gym prepare to have your money stolen. If I could give it 0 stars I would. As someone who has been around both corporate and local gyms I would never recommend this place to anyone unless you want your money stolen every month.

Moved out of Rochester in August. When this location was esporta, there were about six guys by the desk doing nothing. I had my credit card stolen out of that location once. What’s worse when before I moved, I had to ask twice to cancel my membership. I moved and what do you know?! They never canceled my membership. I’m here living my Midwest life and I check my bank account and I see this . I Called again and they said it was my fault. I called membership services and some aggressive lady belittled me over the phone. The place was disgusting, the six guys who stood around in the main area never did anything, the bathroom smelled terrible, there were never towels or sanitizing spray. The Juice people were nice however, always friendly. Reporting this to the BBB, honestly Planet Fitness was much better…

I would think that since returning to the LA Fitness brand that they would reopen the pools at the Irondequoit ,Henrietta and Webster locations but that does not appear to be the case . I upgraded my membership to signature so that I can go to the over crowded pools at the signature clubs and wait sometimes an hour on the pool deck to get a chance to swim . I am curious why the Rochester area LA Fitness clubs do not have pools open when every other location across the United States has a pool and charges the same ?

Great community, lacks management leadership autonomy from Corporate to do what each location needs to have done such as: basic maintenance & cleaning, deep cleaning, turning on music, fixing clocks, changing light bulbs, maintaining equipment, flooring, dust in vents, & now so many amenities are gone like number times of classes & the pool & hot tub are closed! These are the added value features we paid for in our membership! Corporate is always the excuse. Last October I walked into the gym to sign up for a membership that I expressed I only wanted short term to the sales guy Justin. He said that I could get a big discount if I signed up for 3 years. I told him that I am an international traveler and will not need it for that long. It is a good price however I really only needed the membership for a few months. I expressed that to Justin. He went on and said that I could sign up and cancel later on and be refunded what I do not use. 5 months later I am trying to cancel. After calling the location and corporate office. There is nothing they will do to help as the documents in very fine print says I cannot cancel for a refund. DO NOT TRUST SALES PEOPLE especially GYM's!. This world is so disgusting and will lie to you to get whatever they want. There is no sincerity! BE CAREFUL What you sign and next time ask for an addendum
or email confirming what is verbally discussed. DO NOT TRUST SALES PEOPLE AT THIS GYM.

Location has improved over the last couple years. Pretty quiet most times and easy to get a workout in at this location. Staff and patrons are friendly for the most part. I would like to thank the following two employees at this Irondequoit location. Ron and Cheyenne. I was trying yesterday to enroll with the fit on health with no success late in the day. After getting help from Excellus I was able to get a fitness ID number and then get partly signed up with Ron's help over the phone. This was the last day of the month so I didn't want to have to miss using the gym for February. Went there this morning and with the help of a very nice young lady named Cheyenne I was able to finish the process.

They permanently closed the pools in most locations but are charging the same price for membership. Now they want you to pay extra to go to the signature location if you want access to a pool. So essentially they are asking you to pay more for a service that used to be included at all locations.

I enjoy this gym a lot. The staff is super friendly. Equipment gets the job done. The sauna is nice and the showers are kept well maintained any time I've used them.

Personal room for improvement would be: an increase in amount of common dumbbell weights that are frequently used for various exercises (15-25lbs being the problem area I think). There are only 2 sets at the moment -- the weights you need are often not available, either in use or some peach of a person decided to not return them after using.

Second would squat racks. There are two, which is nice, but a third would be awesome. Sometimes have to wait quite a while for it to open up, and as it's the first thing I want to be training on for the day, I'm wasting a lot of time if they're occupied as I don't want to do non-primary lifts beforehand.

Perhaps with extra space potentially coming available in the future with the pool closure, I think either would be a great addition!

It's wild how many bad reviews I've seen because of the gyms ive been to- this is by far my favorite. There's a lot of diversity in the equipment (I came from PF), a handful of classes offered throughout the day, and the trainers are *so nice* and motivating. I have been a member here for a while apparently and have tried multiple times to cancel my membership because I have moved and live over 3 hours away now. Unfortunately I have not been able to get a hold of anyone who can help me and everyone I’ve talked to has been very rude and unhelpful. All I could do is freeze my account and they still charge me $10 a month. I definitely recommend not paying for this or signing up because they will do anything they can to keep your money and disregard your request for help and/or to cancel. Stay away.

So much so say about this place as a member for over 10 years. Through the ups and downs, I keep coming back not because of the quality of the gym only because it's on my way home from work. From the sweet smell of blunt roaches to the sound of gangster rap from boom boxes, this place has a unique atmosphere that feels perfect for the irondequoit location. From week old boogers on the walls to the lack of machine maintenance, you never know how your experience will be here. It's my home gym, and you know what, despite all of the flaws, I always get a smile from the ladies or men from the front desk and a great workout in.

I've been going here for over a year and just mailed in my cancelation form. I got their highest priced membership, so my partner and I can come in whenever and can go to different locations. This comes with a guess pass with every workout. The sign in process for a guest is so aggravating, where you have to input all of your info, show them your drivers license, and they harass you about getting a membership, every. single. time. I feel like I am walking in to a car dealership with how they treat their guests. Even when you flat out tell them "no" to something, they keep trying to convince you. It's is very frustrating and resent having to sign in each day. Their treadmills are mostly half broken, people don't put back their weights and have them scattered everywhere, and when you mention it to the staff they say, "we're working on it" and do nothing. These are the reasons why I am leaving and don't recommend coming here.
