This is easily the worst gym there is. From the fly machines both being broken for 6 months, now the other one is broken. The bandaid and paper towels all over the bathroom when there is any available. To the no selection of dumbbells where you might have to find the other one in the sauna where it’s filthy to the 200 people that crowd the gym every day. Is it to much to ask the staff 10 minutes before they close to walk around and clean up the weights since no one else puts them back? Something is wrong with all the recent 5 star reviews.

Not bad, the gym itself could be better. Hylan has some of the newer equipment which is great. We could use a hack squat but huge shoutout to Eudi and Aida. Eudi always keeps the gym clean and you’ll see him cleaning at all times, making rounds and ensuring that the gym looks good. Aida does amazing with the kids!

I’d like to personally thank kaysaun for his attention to detail I visited with a friend and he was working but took his time to stop and attend to bathroom 20 mins after he just thoroughly cleaned locker room. People litter fast I will be a member soon. I appreciate a environment that encourages cleanliness and well being and I’ll refer all my clients to this location the staff are great but Kay is why I’m sending thanks to Richmond ave la fitness very friendly and attentive. Review for LA Fitness

LA Fitness has truly come a long way! The overall atmosphere and cleanliness have improved tremendously — you can tell management and the staff have made a real effort to elevate the experience. The gym is noticeably cleaner than it used to be, and that’s a huge plus for anyone who trains regularly. Big shoutout to the cleaning crew — they’ve been doing an amazing job keeping everything spotless and sanitary throughout the day.

While there were some issues with machines in the past, the team has been very proactive about addressing them. Maintenance is much better now, and it’s clear they’re making continuous improvements to keep the equipment in great shape.

For a membership that runs about $50 or less per month, you really do get excellent value. The facility offers a complete gym experience — plenty of equipment, group classes, and a solid community of members who motivate each other. It’s a place where you can get a great workout and feel comfortable doing it.

I have been going to this LA Fitness location for months now, and it has numerous issues. About half of its cardio equipment are out of services, and there seems to be no urgency in fixing them by management. There are also limited number of exercise equipment available, and you always have to wait to use them unless they are hogged by groups of teenagers, which then means you will never get to use them. The men's showers are bad and disgusting. There are 8 showers but only 6 peg hooks. People are left with no space to hang their towels even when a shower is available. To make matter worse, there are always rude and selfish people that just leave their belongings on those hooks to reserve their showers. They also routinely either run out of body wash in the showers or dilute the body wash so much that basically it is just soapy water. None of the staff cares about anything there. Only reason I am still going is its location. If there is another gym available nearby, I would have dropped my membership.

Today I attended this La fitness located on Richmond Ave (as I usually do). And there was a lady who was teaching the Zumba class @9:45am. My female cousin happened to be in the sauna with her later that morning, and heard some insulting/inappropriate conversations. The conversations were based on political opinions and strong voices were made. As an employee on the clock, I don’t believe it was very professional for her to talk about how she praises Donald trump, and continues to make a comment on how the democrats are the “devil”. I understand everyone is entitled to their opinion, but when you’re at reputable establishment AND an employee, some things are better off kept inside our heads than said. This is not okay

Machines have been broken for almost 2 months now and still not fixed, there are kids that act up and swarm a machine (you'll never get on it), and weights are all over the gym. The Worst, most disgusting and decrepit Gym in Staten Island – Avoid at All Costs

LA Fitness on Richmond Avenue is hands down the most poorly maintained gym in all of Staten Island. The moment you walk in, you’re hit with the overwhelming stench of filthy carpets and stale sweat. The facility is consistently dirty — grime coats the machine handles, and it’s clear that basic cleaning hasn’t been done in months.

Several machines, including cable equipment and treadmills, are broken or malfunctioning. Many treadmills are unusable due to missing emergency stop magnets, and others stutter or skip mid-run, creating serious safety hazards. The juice bar sports a “B” Health Department grade — not exactly reassuring when you’re watching staff reuse unclean blenders.

The showers? Covered in mildew and black mold. The locker rooms reek of garbage. The pool has a greasy, slimy film on the surface, and it’s not uncommon to see unsupervised teens spitting on the floor while others are trying to work out.

I’ve raised these concerns multiple times with both local management and LA Fitness corporate. Nothing has been done. No cleaning. No repairs. No accountability.

It’s a shame, because the gym itself is a decent size with potential — but instead, it’s an absolute disgrace. A health hazard masquerading as a fitness center.

If you enjoy moldy showers, filthy equipment, broken machines, and a general atmosphere of neglect, then congratulations — this is the gym for you. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and stay away.

Zero stars. LA Fitness members deserve better.

do not sign up for personal training!! biggest scam i’ve ever signed up for. This place is ran by teenagers & the kid that signed me up for the “personal training” ensured me i can cancel after a month and was aware i just wanted to try it out. He also said i can “cancel anytime”.. yeah sure.. i can cancel anytime with a cancelation fee of $1500…. In order to cancel you have to BUY OUT the remaining amount of months you have left (9 month contract) that was NOT stated to me. i was told “sign here.. sign here..”. and was practically lied to about what i was signing. The kid seems like a nice person, and props to him for getting his commission off of me but it was a big mistake i did. Secondly the “trainers” aren’t trainers.. at least in my experience.. he showed 0 interest , 0 knowledge, 0 attention. I just think it was a big scam, avoid PT.

For over a month there were zero shower curtains, now for the last couple of weeks they’ve had literal trash bags as curtains. The shower stalls also routinely have a bug problem, sometimes you’ll see roaches but flies are extremely prevalent. Disgusting…. How hard is it to go to dollar tree and just buy some cheap curtains for $1.25 each?

On top of this, the gym itself is poorly maintained. Lots of cardio and weight machines have been broke for months. No lifting platforms to do deadlifts or Olympic lifts, which is pretty standard for any gym nowadays.

The only reason I’m even giving 2 stars is because atleast they have a working Sauna and have enough leg machines to not have to wait forever for unlike the other LA fitness on Hylan which is even worse, their sauna hasn’t worked in two years!!!

Whoever manages and maintains these gyms should be ashamed of themselves.

La Fitness Richmond Ave Staten Island NY

This sign was posted outside the Pool area at the entrance to the Men’s & Women’s locker rooms/showers on 7.1.23
Lo and behold of course it is not being enforced by the British Swim Instructors nor the pool Lifeguard if he or she can even be found.
When I inquired about it this past Sunday on 7.2.23 the British swim instructors had no knowledge of it if you believe it!?
When I went to ask the Lifeguard why it was not being enforced, she was nowhere to be found because she was outside the pool area chatting with the LA staff dressed in black shorts & black top with NO Red Lifeguard markings whatsoever! Mandatory Shower before entering the pool & hot tub is also NOT being enforced by ANYONE! Showering before entering the pool & hot tub is clearly stated in the pool rules posted on the walls.
On another note, the men’s & women’s showers are filthy with Mold, Hair & Dirt as shown in these pics. I will be surely making a move very soon to a much better-run YMCA.

Almost every machine here is either out of order or needs to be fixed. Parts are missing from exercise equipment, the rugs on the floor are wasting away and the sauna is disgustingly filthy. A fine LA Fitness. There are deceptively a large amount of cardio machines since a not-insignificant amount of them can be out of order at any given time. I do like the layout of the gym and find that there are a decent amount of different types of machines to get a good workout. It seems like a big portion of people go here for the classes since they are always full so I would recommend this gym if you are into that.
my 3 star rating is mostly due to the bathroom and locker room area. The locker room sometimes has paper thrown all over the floor and the showers are not what I would call clean. One had it's curtain ripped in half and barely covered whoever is in it. I often feel dirtier after getting out of it. I strongly recommend they review their cleaning practices.

More than half the treadmill machines have been out of commission for MANY months. The machines here are always breaking down. Bathrooms are FILTHY. We have to put up with a man coming into the ladies room every day because they are too cheap to hire an additional cleaner. There are groups of people who come in JUST to take showers. They leave a filthy mess. They don't even work out. Afterwards, they use the locker room as a hangout. I think they are either homeless or live in cramped quarters. It all makes this gym not worth the price!

This location is beautiful! I’ve been to every LA FITNESS location, and the one that closed down was my go to – this one is a great alternative. It’s very clean; met Syed, Malik and Moses and they’re wonderful – very welcoming, and helpful. Sauna works great. Gets very full and packed and turns into a standing room. Gym is busy even in the early hours which says a lot.

Kledis is the GOAT. I was on the fence about getting a membership at LA Fit but Kledis who works there was kind and helpful to give me a tour of the gym. He answered any questions I had in a professional manner and he really knew his stuff. That experience alone made me sign up for the gym.

Great facilities. They have heavy bags, which is why I drive to this particular location. The staff is always courteous and accommodating.

The gym has definitely improved. Cool staff, good assortment of equipment and weights. Improvements, the sauna needs some to be renovated, however, works well most of the time. Would probably switch gyms if they closed it. New carpets and updated machines would be nice. They’ve seen better days. Overall, I’m able to get a good workout without too much waiting around.

the gym is pretty huge, lots of friendly people, great ranges of weights for many different workouts. calisthenics section as well as private group sessions held in the gym. John is very helpful if there are any issues throughout the gym. I Always look forward to coming to this location.
