The staff at LifeTime is great, no problem with them. But whoever made the call of getting rid of basket ball courts for pickleball is killing the gym and laughing at its members. Pickleball is not a real sport. This decision is a real shame.

An excellent gym, very spacious, and I am never waiting for anything even during rush hour. The locker room amenities (steam room, whirlpool) are a great distinguishing factor. There is a lot of square footage devoted to common areas where you can sit and work after the gym.

Removing the basketball court warrants the one star review. I was a bit insensed by how they handled this decision. They shouldve kept the basketball court as is and added pickle ball to the next gym they decide to create in brooklyn so people have options. Otherwise this would been at least a 4 star gym.

I love this gym. Staff are great. I enjoyed the community it’s built over the years. I’ve built friendships through basketball and whatnot BUT NOW corporate decided to convert the indoor basketball into pickleball!! Pickleball is a fad!! It’s not long term. Cancelling my membership.

Great staff, my issue is the short notice and lack of communication when it came to shutting down the basketball court. This is the Mecca of basketball, yet it’s getting FULLY replaced by pickle ball. I see things for what they are and where New York is headed with the replacement of many courts. My times were good while they lasted but this stripped my joy away of even going back to Dumbo. Hopefully everyone has fun on that pickleball court though

(Edited as if 10/26/2025):
Dropped to one star for the blatant money grab of destroying the basketball court in favor of pickleball. For Christ sake just build a new facility with pickleball included — don’t tear down the thing that built up most of the community at the gym.

Solid gym though it is a bit pricy as it’ll run you back $230 a month.

Pros:
- Staff is personable and friendly
- the basketball court is nice
- steam room has dim lights so it’s a perfect place to meditate after a workout
- food, particularly the shake’s & quesadillas are really good
- not as crowded as their Sky location, though it does get packed weekdays during 5-7pm especially with the alpha classes
- easy to meet people and make friends

Nit picks:
- poor cell service as it’s in the basement of a building
- I frequent the gym late at night and they close the steam room and saunas 20 minutes before close

Great gym. The first best part of Lifetime is that it’s an all club membership and they have clubs everywhere. The 2nd is that there gyms are well equipped with everything you’d want. They are clean. The locker rooms are like your own private spa. And finally, the staff is amazing. The trainers are great. The class instructors are the best I’ve ever experienced. The hosts will treat you and your guests incredibly well and go out of their way to accommodate you in every way they can. It’s a bit more expensive than other high end gyms in NYC but worth every penny.

Removing the basketball courts warrants a one star. I have many things I enjoy about the location and the space, but this is/was one of the nice highlights about it. These feels like corporate greed over prioritizing members needs. That space is always filled with people, hard to imagine it wasn’t being utilized in its proper fashion.

Updated: truly don’t understand this move. Pickleball doesn’t require 20 ft ceilings, and has a lot more flexibility where a court can be setup. Why not use any other space? (2 yoga studios, endless cardio areas, etc).

Used to be great, decided they wanted to shut down the basketball court with 10 days notice. Poor engagement with the community or thought for members.

I wanted to echo the sentiment of others here. I joined lifetime and one of the big draws was the basketball court. It's incredibly rare to find a facility with basketball in this city. To replace that with pickleball while there is an entire lifetime location almost solely dedicated to pickleball already is ridiculous

UPDATE 10/16/25:
So disappointed with this business practice. They try to sell a community and an “elevated experience,” but it seems that closing the basketball courts for more pickleball that caters mostly to a certain demographic (yes, I also went there as other reviews) only elevates their profit margin. Not only is this gym loosing touch with inclusion, but also one of the main factors that made it unique. I used to see lots of young members using the basketball courts especially on the weekends, and I found that to be a great alternative than being out and about. My family signed up due to the various amenities and the basketball courts being the main factor. We will also be looking for other alternatives. Sad to see go a diverse community of basketball that we watched grow since they opened, for a bunch of Lululemon/Alo wearing , gluten free, matcha drinkers.

Amazing gym, best equipment and spacious. There is something for everyone. My husband really enjoys having a basketball court while I enjoy the weight training area. Plenty of equipment. We have a family package, and my son goes to the kids' academy. My son always has fun with the instructors. Worth the price.

Removing the basketball courts and only giving 10 days notice is both unprofessional and an indication of LifeTimes lack of care towards their members. A decision like that should require input from the community. The Chelsea Piers in Brooklyn has a basketball court and they now can and should be considered as an alternative to LifeTime. My family is definitely looking into other options now.

Lifetime is no longer a community gym or desirable gym if you’re a young professional living in NYC. This has become a profit maximizing business that puts customer experience last. Replacing the basketball court and displacing hundreds of members for pickleball is crap decision. The cafe, food and drink options have become ridiculously overpriced and low quality. The staff are great. The upper management are arrogant, unresponsive, and rude to customers/staff. They banned recording at the gym yet regularly do shoots for social media and allow trainers to record content (it’s 2025 and in NYC… cameras are on). I hope Lifetime Dumbo struggles as a result of moving to pickleball and replacing basketball (the thing that made it unique). There are so many other pickleball locations around dumbo and fort green… I don’t hope I know that this will struggle financially (gonna be a great case study in 5-7 years.

This is not a review for the staff as they are excellent. This is a review for the fact that they ripped out the basketball court with 10 days notice without consulting the "community" that they claim to care so much about. They had known about this move for months and decided to keep it a secret. The irony is that they are replacing the courts with pickleball courts, likely in an attempt to bring in a wealthier client base, meanwhile I cancelled my membership and switched to equinox(and as a result ended up paying a lot more) just to keep my access to a basketball court. I used to recommend this gym to anyone in the area but can no longer do so. They have shown a complete disregard for their client base. But hey in 10 years when the fad of pickleball disappears, and they bring back the basketball court maybe I will consider rejoining

Let me first make it very clear my negative review has nothing to do with the staff. The staff is A1 from the front desk to the trainers to the maintenance staff. All my issues with the gym are from corporate. I have been a member of this gym since it opened 3 years ago and I’ve seen its decline.

Number one, they prioritize themselves on community yet they don’t follow through. The gym is closing the basketball court to make room for pickleball. There has been a beautiful basketball community created over the years and it’s a shame that lifetime is destroying that all as a cash grab and a way to get “certain clientele” out. Yes, I am going there.

Two, very often the steam room or hot tub or certain amenities simply don’t work. There are often down times for these amenities and at some point you wonder where your money is going.

Three, they want to be comparable to equinox. They aren’t. I have returned to equinox and it blows the doors off lifetime.

Avoid this gym at all costs.

Pickleball courts? Really? That’s what they’re going to replace the basketball courts with?

I have collected so many fond memories hooping with the boys on those courts. Basketball does not see color and speaks all languages - it is truly global game. Pickleball, on the other hand, is incredibly white.

Choosing to replace some of the finest basketball courts in NYC, not to mention doing it without consulting the membership, shows management lacks a long term vision and cares more about being trendy than they do serving their customer base.

★ 1

Replacing the basketball court with pickleball feels like just another example of companies prioritizing profits over people.

Basketball builds community, gives people a way to blow off steam after work, to just be in the moment, all things that can’t be quantified on a balance sheet. Know what they are though, beneficial to the well being of HUMAN BEINGS.

I get it though, CEO has a 3rd vacation home to finance, have to maximize that revenue per square foot. You charge $330 monthly for a membership, if you can’t maintain a profitable business, idk what to say.

Another issue is it feels quite tone deaf, and coded. You bring your business to NYC. A huge part of what makes New York great is its diversity, something basketball embodies. You see people of all races competing. Now you’re replacing it with pickleball, a sport overwhelmingly played by white people.

Disappointing decision, will be cancelling my membership.

My disappointment is immeasurable.

The basketball court at Lifetime was never just a few pickup games...it was a community. Guys showed up after long days to compete, decompress, and connect. It was one of the few spaces that brought people together in NY despite how poorly it was maintained.

As a gay Black man, basketball has always been my outlet. And now, with 11 days’ notice, Lifetime has decided to rip that away from us… so they can charge more for pickleball. Believe it or not, basketball at Lifetime Dumbo was heavily populated with the LGBTQ community. This seems like a direct attack on people of colors and different sexualities.

When membership prices went up a few months ago, we were told there’d be investments and improvements. Instead, we got less. Less access, less community, more fees. Taking away a court to replace it with a “premium” sport you now charge for isn’t progress — it’s tone-deaf and greedy.

I’ve been with LifeTime for several years, and this change is honestly baffling. The basketball court was one of the few reasons I chose this gym over others and there was always good energy around the games. This LifeTime has great location and decent workout space, but def have to echo what others are saying: removing the basketball court was a major misstep. I was only a fan of this LifeTime as it offered indoor basketball, as this one of the main reasons I signed up for my membership. This location is one of the best lifetimes in the city however, I leave off 3 stars due to a recent decision that was made to close the basketball court in favor of 3 pickleball courts. The decisions makes little to no sense with the Penn station location already offering multiple pickleball courts.

The amount of indoor basketball courts in the city is already heavily limited which is one of the reasons why I chose lifetime as my gym. It makes little to sense to now force everyone to an already heavily crowded sky location if they want to play basketball! Heavily disappointed with the decision and I know i'm not alone on this.

New Joiners Beware: The polished exterior does not sufficiently hide how truly atrocious lifetimes employees acts towards it's members. The staff has such an egregious lack of professionalism that issues are handled with the grace of a 2 week old infant.

I had flagged to an employee that there was a man taking pictures of woman in compromising positions - he shrugged it off and said there wasn't anything he would do about it.

Lifetime must not be paying their employees sufficiently, because all the staff walks around like they would rather be anywhere else- and when you approach them with a question/inquiry be prepared to receive the absolute bare minimum.

It seems as long as you avoid the manger, Angela, you’ll have a lovely time at this location! Have rarely encountered someone so adamantly rude, just as others have mentioned here.

I went to quickly see this Life Time while I was in the neighborhood. When I checked in at the desk but had my dog with me, I was prepared to explain the situation or be turned away, but no one said anything. I asked for directions, walked around the place, went into the locker rooms, etc. As I was leaving, Angela came up to me and reprimanded me (like I was a child) about my dog, asked how I even got in, insisted on getting my name to flag this on my membership record, and escorted me all the way to the exit while continuing to be rude. I apologized multiple times, saying I was already leaving and I didn’t know the rules before.

She refused to clarify what this flag would mean and was clearly threatening my membership. At the membership cost charged, this sort of treatment should especially not be allowed.

As someone who has frequented some of the finest establishments around the world, I must say this facility is nearly flawless when it comes to equipment quality and location. Truly top tier. However, my experience was absolutely marred by one glaring issue: Angela at the front desk.

Her attitude is unacceptable. She speaks to guests as me with a tone that borders on hostile, as if basic decency is beneath her. It’s astonishing that such an otherwise well run place would tolerate someone so clearly unfit for a customer facing role. Her demeanor is smug, combative, and downright disrespectful. She conveys information as if she is above me or something lol.

Frankly, it’s beneath the standards of an establishment of this caliber. She needs to be let go immediately before she drives away more of the clientele who expect and pay for a higher level of service. Pathetic behavior. Disgusting experience. Do better.

I just signed up for this gym. It’s cool but like many others in the reviews…I gotta say, the front desk needs a whole new staff. They’re off-putting and can be combative for the pettiest reasons. Not the character traits you want to experience when you first walk in. It’s genuinely super strange (I used to be a f.d attendant at a gym myself— I find that it’s quite easy to be pleasant doing this particular job... quite mind-boggling that they’re still working there) Also…I think it’s especially annoying that when we bring a guest, we must be present, I’ve been a member of all kinds of elite/boutique gyms and it has never been necessary as long as the correct info is provided + form is filled / member ID and/or phone no is given. Only in lifetime have I needed to be physically present. Only thing keeping me here is the hot yoga and sauna/steam room.

All the other staff outside of front desk are helpful and kind :) + members are cool and clean up after themselves. Love the space.

I joined LifeTime a few months ago after being an Equinox member and never going.

My local lifetime in NoHo is very small & often crowded, but this DUMBO location checks every box. Huge space, much more weights, racks, machines (all brand new), cycling studio, pool, basketball court, and a spa amongst other things. There’s even a damn full bar on the main entrance floor.

I come during the day, so I haven’t had any issues with overcrowding.

Contrary to others comments, the girls at the front desk have been capable & very hospitable.

The life Time at Dumbo. Brooklyn is most definitely what’s happening there’s so much square footage. It’s honestly amazing.

The front desk is very helpful, professional, engaging, and articulate.

There is a bar there however the only downside is that the woman who is tending the bar, said that there was a happy hour, but didn’t really know the times and didn’t know what drinks or beers are a part of happy hour. Therefore, I did not attend happy hour when I was there in my opinion, they need to do a better job of promoting their happy hour as you don’t find that many gyms with an actual bar.
There was no ice plunge, but there is a nice coed Jacuzzi steam room and sauna even though I will admit that. The steam room is absolutely scalding. I had to wet a towel and put it over me and I still couldn’t last longer than 10 minutes in there but it’s soothing nonetheless their workout classes the rooms are very well ventilated the instructors are friendly and engaging and the ambience of the strobe lights and music is definitely thrilling. The weight area is very open and spacious better than the location at sky and there are plenty of restrooms. I didn’t get to hoop, but the pool has six lanes. There’s no need to make a reservation and it feels like the lanes are longer which makes it more enjoyable oh, and I have to add the lifetime café at this location is also top-notch as they serve delicious, hot food. I had an excellent burger and my girlfriend put me on to a cauliflower barbecue chicken and bacon pizza which was delicious. Too bad they don’t sell real soda like Coca-Cola or sprite. LOL JK

Best gym experience I’ve had in NYC; extremely spacious, even during peak times, with a dizzying array of machines and free weights. Lots of squat racks and usually have no waiting time. Great amenities (recovery suite, compression boots, sauna, etc) and last but not least - A POOL!!

Several disappointing interactions with the (front desk) manager Angela Alleyne. The manager does the bare minimum and is combative. Rebels against any concept of customer service. Disappointing, as customers are coming to seek a respite.

The place is very spacious and plenty of equipment. Even during peak time rarely have to wait for a machine. The manager of this place is on top of his game. The place is clean. The staff is friendly. Out of all Life time gyms in New York, and New Jersey, this must be the one of my favorites.

We love Life Time! Dumbo is one of our favorites. Many good things I’d love to share:
1. Good amenities
2. One of the LT sites with many group fitness class schedules and variety of choices
3. Good location with food around

Especially, if you are looking for personal trainer at the entry level of your fitness journey, I highly recommend getting Jammy Andrade, who has great experience to help weight loss, strength training 101, and etc. One highlight is her expertise in Nutrition is amazing and reliable. With her help, I am having a better and healthier life. She is one of the best personal trainers I’ve ever met.

Fantastic gym, location is expansive with plenty of additional work spaces if needed. Major complaint is group classes such as cycling or weights in studio rooms play music way too high😔Potentially damaging and ear plugs are a must, not an option (otherwise this review would be 5 stars⭐️)

A bit busy, but overall very nice gym. I had a bad experience with a complimentary one on one session with a personal trainer, but the client services (shoutout to Gianna!) was super kind and helpful in listening and supporting me. They rebooked this for me. Can’t wait to use the gym and facilities more :)

My daughter and I recently visited NYC. We stayed within a walking distance to this club, so we enjoyed going every day. The club is very clean and organized well. I took a morning class BM360 with Avery, which was great too! I liked those 12 lbs vests we put on while doing high interval whole body training! The pool area was nice too, but the water seemed to be too warm. Our home gym is Palm Beach Gardens in Fl, so we kind of used to a cold water in the swimming pool. The sauna area and lockers rooms were also very pleasing, never crowded, so it was an excellent experience!

Hands down the worst ppl they could’ve chose to be at the front desk. Atleast when I went evening of 1/5. Gyms solid otherwise but that’s because it’s a Lifetime.

Feedback: slow down and listen to ppl when they come in and tell you they are an existing member multiple times. Also the attitude could use some clean up too, thanks

More than a gym — an overall wellness facility and community. Front desk is super friendly, easy nooks to work if needed. Classes are great GTX with Brandon or Mary amazing, Avery is fun and teaches everything, love yoga with Robert. I wish there were more regular yoga classes on alternate days from GTX in the morning. Massages are great I have gotten them with Kendu. Also take adult swimming here Mike is a great instructor. Facilities are always clean and not too crowded. I bring guests here and they love it.

I’ve been at this club since day one. It used to be nice, but they have so many maintenance issues (eg. someone purposely clogged the toilets with too much toilet paper, on multiple occasions they’ve had no water at all so no shower, toilet, washing hands etc, sauna/steam room/hot tub are closed for maintenance often) on a regular basis that I can’t give it a good review anymore.

**Lifetime Member

The Lifetime DUMBO gym does not meet the same standards I would expect from the other Lifetime locations I've visited. Unfortunately, it is the closest Lifetime to where I live.

My biggest concern is The DUMBO location is the highest price tier and there is NO (0) cell reception on the fitness floors, pool, or locker room/spa. The wifi in these areas barely works as well. The guest services blames the cell reception on "outside factors" though I have Verizon and the only place I don't have service is when I visit Lifetime DUMBO.

I visited here using a guest pass and tried out the equipment and the pool. After I left the pool to shower, I was told the showers are closed because of a sewage issue and the mans locker room was flooded a bit with dirty water. I had to go home without being able to clean myself up and got sick a few days later.

All of their locations are clean and friendly. The equipment is up to date and state of the art. They're opening up more locations around the city and have quickly become the bane of equinox. They're not the cheapest thing in town, but they're not as unnecessarily and ludicrously as expensive as equinox and others. The downside is the group exercise classes. The regular in studio exercise classes are base to say the least. If you're an absolute beginner and don't care to lift more than 10 or 15 lb, then fine. But if you're looking to get stronger, faster and more advanced in these classes, it's not going to happen Other on the floor style types like GTX, AMP etc.
As far as personal training is concerned you're going to get the same as just about anywhere else. Just make sure to vet and verify their experience and education.
Overall it's a good place to get your workout on

Easily the best gym in nyc. Makes equinox look like an average-joes. I'm pretty sure someone is just spamming bad reviews about the staff bc I've only had great experiences with them.

10 squat racks / lifting platforms, four benches, a full size basketball court and swimming pool. Nothing else like it in the city. While the natural light is lacking, they do a good job of keeping it well lit.

Come for: the plethora of new equipment and amenities.

Watch out: low on natural light, which can be a drag.

The space is immaculate with every type of equipment you could ever want. Locker rooms have eucalyptus steam rooms, a very hot sauna, and a hot tub. Very nice amenities. All fitness areas are quite spacious so even if it's busy, you have a ton of personal space. The classes (which are all included) are awesome. There's a Barry's-style class called GTX. In my experience, you can get Yoga at a gym, but not HOT Yoga. Life Time Dumbo has heated yoga classes! I've seen other reviews complain about rude staff? This is very strange to me. I've had nothing but positive interactions with all the staff. 2 minute walk from the F train and there's 4 citi bike stations within 0.1 mile. I am SO thankful Life Time opened in Brooklyn. 10/10 recommend

Visited this location and it's a great gym that fits the athletic country club criteria of Life Time in an urban location. Everything looks and feels clean and a worker was cleaning the equipment while I was working out. The locker rooms are luxurious and not basic like someone said, trust me. This is a luxury family-friendly health club chain where all are welcome to enjoy a healthy lifestyle. The Ultimate Hoops courts are sleek with see-through glass walls with motivational quotes on them. The life cafe is big and they have multiple places to sit and do your work or just to do whatever you like. Wish the pool area had lounge chairs like the suburban locations but there are chairs in the relaxation space to sit down and a bench that you could lie down on if you'd like. All in all, really pleased with my experience the staff was friendly, and had a lot of cool-looking people here. On-site paid to park. Would visit again. Proud Life Time is expanding in the NYC area

Facilities are new and fine although missing some key pieces of equipment and the lifting platforms are uneven.

Real issue is with staff. Several rude trainers who will enforce some rules but let literal small children on the gym floor. They don’t say anything when people are on their phones on speakerphone on the gym floor. Also saw someone lifting barefoot (no socks). The manager called me on my personal phone to berate me and make weird and untrue accusations.

They have a poster that says you’re supposed to wear gym clothes in to the sauna… The changing area and showers are basic; no luxury toiletries despite the hefty membership fee. It’s basically a Blink but at Equinox prices.
