Be careful giving you credit card to this gym. They will charge you with your authorization for services you did not agree on. And good luck trying to cancel your gym membership.

I’ve been a LifeTime member for about a year and a half and I’ve been to a total of 6 LifeTimes in the NYC area and Long Island. My home location is Long Island so I don’t go here often.
Out of all these locations I’ve been to, Penn 1 is either tied for first or slightly behind the Syosset location. It is definitely the best one I’ve been to in NYC. It’s clean, in an amazing spot, the desk staff greets me, the showers are impressive and it’s never been packed when I go here.
Surprised to see the 3.5 star average, but this is definitely a top tier LT location compared to the others I’ve been to.

Lockers are consistently 80% taken by 7am. The staff needs to do a better job making sure people are not storing their items overnight.

This is specifically for the front desk at the PENN location on Friday 10/18 around 5pm . My family has a membership that allows admission to all locations. At this time, I was in the area and needed to use the restroom, so I decided to use the gym’s since I was a few steps away from this location and I also have previously done that. However, this time I had my 7yr old son. I told the girl in the front (blonde) I needed to quickly use the restroom and that btw my son was also a junior member. She said the location doesn’t accept people under 14yr and that I could use the bathroom, but “he can wait by the door,” while pointing her finger to exit door. I explained to her that I really needed to go and I will be quick, and my son was only 6. She rolls her eyes and tells me that those were the rules. If that is the case, Lifetime should revisit and reevaluate their policies for scenarios such as this . Not everything in business is black and white, and there are some grey areas that would accommodate a bit more of inclusivity. I know they have an all-gender restroom on the first floor away from the exercise areas and I would have taken him in the stall with me if I had to. Please have your employees consult with a supervisor before they go all condescending on their members. I expect a bit more courtesy form a business that prides on “creating happy lives” while I pay them more than $700/month.

Rejoined Life Time and cancelled Equinox after speaking with the front desk staff earlier today. The two women were professional and answered my questions and the gym is lovely and has lots of equipment. It is small by Life Time standards but easily one of the larger gyms by NYC standards. Glad to be back!

Overpriced and always raising fees. Pickleball courts, like the lockerrooms upstairs, look like an overcrowded homeless shelter by evening time. Good luck finding a clean locker or an open court to play on.

Love this gym but the staff is honestly dismissive, rude, apathetic, and does not give a shit, especially the blonde lifecafe lady who’s gone half the time. 3 saturdays in a row, I come down to order a smoothie only to find no one at the cafe around 4:00 PM. I’m told by the front desk gentlemen on the 2nd floor that she will be back. She’s gone for like half an hour. I come back at 4:50 and she tells me she’s not taking more smoothie orders because she needs time to close shop ant 5PM and isn’t taking anymore orders. I told her that I came earlier and she wasn’t here. She shrugs and says not my problem. Giving this a 1 star until the customer service changes around.
Update: visited life cafe this Saturday and there’s a sign that says on break, back at 2:50. I went at 2:00 PM. What kind of place has workers going on break for nearly an hour with no one else to man the station? The worker is seen at the 2nd floor desk just chatting and laughing. No one seems to really work here at the cafe.
[EDIT]: new cafe workers have been much nicer. Appreciated the swap

Thank you for accommodating me life time peeps especially the guy there named Sergio, keeping on track in terms of remembering the things I said that I would do like work out , train and study because I do my schooling there by the tables, he saw me on my first days and will be graduating soon, them late night studying by the tables and reminders to sleep or break is such a big deal to me
All in all, the customer service is the best because of the people at the front desk

The penn station location is very good even pedestrians encourage you time to time 😂 Also I workout with the PT Coach K (BEYOND LIMITS) and he really pays attention and pushes you to until you get the job done. However, I have never had an injury so, he knows exactly where to stop or listens to you allows you to regroup, but you will still get the job done! If you wanna see some results, that’s the guy!

I love my trainer Kartier Edwards. He is passionate about personal training and I wouldn’t be where I am without him. Kartier keeps me focused on my goals and respectful of my limitations. Every person who mentions their need for a trainer to me, I will refer them to Kartier. I am happier and healthier because of him.

I have been a LifeTime member for almost 3 months now and I have always had the best experience there. Each day I walk in the gym, I am greeted by such amazing staff. After having a trial personal training session, I completely loved it and decided to start personal training for a month. Personal Trainer Ro is amazing! He always has high energy, very knowledgeable about each detail, and has motivated me to push myself during each workout. With Ro’s coaching and guidance, I lost 15lbs in one month!!! After a month of Personal Training, Ro has still continued to check in and see my progress, while also motivating me along the way. Currently I have lost 22lbs in total and I look forward to continuing my journey at LifeTime. Joining LifeTime was truly one of the best decisions I made for my health. I was able to not only learn important aspects about my health, but to also be disciplined and patient as each day goes by. Overall, I definitely recommend joining LifeTime and trying Personal Training with Ro at Penn1.

An Exceptional Gym and a Truly Transformative Trainer
I've genuinely enjoyed my experience at Lifetime Fitness on 33rd. I was looking for a gym that wasn't overcrowded, had clean, well-maintained facilities—especially the locker rooms and restrooms—and this location has exceeded all of my expectations.
Initially, my goal was to build muscle and lose fat. After a few months of working out on my own, I felt I needed a bit of guidance to take things to the next level. That’s when I decided to use one of the complimentary personal training consultations—and I’m incredibly glad I did.
I was paired with Rohit ("Ro"), a Personal Training Team Leader and Physical Therapist. From the very beginning, Ro took a thoughtful and professional approach, asking about any pain or injuries. I mentioned my recurring back and knee issues, and he immediately tailored a program with those in mind. He reassured me that with the right strength training, the pain could be reduced or even eliminated—and he was absolutely right. Since training with Ro, my discomfort has significantly diminished, which is something I hadn’t achieved on my own.
Ro brings a remarkable blend of expertise, compassion, and motivation to each session. He's not only deeply knowledgeable about physical health, but also understands the mental side of training. Every session feels intentional and effective—never repetitive or stale. Ro’s ability to challenge and support simultaneously has been instrumental in helping me progress toward my goals.
What stands out most is Ro’s genuine investment in his clients. He regularly checks in on my energy levels, how my body feels, and whether I’m ready to increase intensity. His attentiveness and care make it clear that he’s not just doing a job—he’s passionate about helping people feel and function better.
I’m confident that I wouldn’t be seeing the results I am without his support and guidance. If you're looking for a personal trainer who is knowledgeable, encouraging, and truly invested in your success, I wholeheartedly recommend Ro.

-central new york city location accessible by every single train line (will need to walk a few to 10 mins depending...if not on the red line trains/7th ave.) and many bus routes
-this was formally the Kmart superstore which has now been converted into a gym with three floors
-there is so much square footage here that you will never feel cramped. you can easily even find a spot to work out at, pretty much completely privately, with no one around you. the ceilings are so high that it feels very large and airy.
-the ground floor has a large squatting area with many stations flooded by natural daylight which is so nice, as well as as a few pickleball courts.
-note that they have a lot of "tools" such as the inbody scan machine as well as a chair that completely cools your body down to a very low temperature so you can recover quicker from inflammation after a hard workout. there are other tools, as well I'm just mentioning a few.
-every floor actually has private bathrooms for your use on top of communal bathrooms, men/women)
-excellent natural daylight comes into the gym
-of course, towel service is available on every floor so you never have to worry about sweating or cleaning up
-there are some negative elements of the gym as other reviews have mentioned that i'm not going to bother covering such as impolite customer service and broken facilities such as the sauna (let's keep in mind that these people are working retail which is a tough job especially in new york city. as for broken amenities, such as the sauna, we have no clue how many people go in there and if someone does damage without knowing such as putting water on the rocks which damages the unit inside. keep these things in mind when you use this gym. for this purpose i only grade the equipment and facility itself and understand equipment can and does break for a variety of reasons. this is not an excuse but just a small explanation for others to understand from a different perspective. with all that being said, this is supposedly a premium gym that charges a one month membership what every other chain gym charges for the whole year with significantly better customer service, so yes we should and do expect more and better than this).

Pros: 17 platforms, huge training area, lots of food options nearby
Cons: In theory a great place to train because there are 17 platforms. Would not recommend training here during peak hours (5-7pm on weekdays.) Their strength class will reserve 10 platforms, even if the class isn’t full. They will not let non-class members use the empty platforms. So during peak hours, you’ve got people lined up waiting to use the remaining platforms while some of the “reserved” ones sit empty. It’s is frustrating to pay $450+/month only to be treated this way.
Also, their locker room layout is very cramped. Expect to bump cheeks with other naked people during peak hours.

Front desk staff is flat out rude at this location. They don’t even look up from texting on their phones at the front desk to say hello. And this isn’t just a one off — it happens every time I go. Management needs to do something about this and the front desk staff’s rudeness and lack of basic friendly service.

One of my favorite locations! Beautifully designed and friendly staff. The layout is easy and makes sense to me with three levels. They have an elevator and stairs to go up and down the floors. I had a really unprofessional experience at the cafe on Friday 5/9. I went up to buy a drink and stood at the counter for 5 minutes waiting to be helped. The two female workers were literally right beside me, standing at the food fridge area, scooping out what they wanted to eat and criticizing the food options, giggling—completely ignoring me like I wasn’t even there. I honestly thought they were customers at first, that’s how little attention they gave to the fact I was waiting to pay. Not what I’d expect from a place like Lifetime.
On top of that, today - 5/16 a worker was using the cleaning mop machine while people were actively working out, including right below where I was working out. The strong chemical smell was everywhere, and on top of that, it created a serious slip hazard. How is that safe or acceptable? It’s honestly insane that they think it’s okay to do that during peak gym hours. This place really needs better staff training and professionalism.

I’ve been a Lifetime member for years and have been visiting this location for over a month. Unfortunately, I recently had a very disappointing experience. After transferring my data to a new phone, none of my apps—including the gym’s app—were installed yet. When I arrived, the front desk staff, who recognized me, refused to let me in until I had the app downloaded and could check in. I ended up waiting for 15 minutes in the lobby while my phone installed the app.
During this time, I asked if I could provide my Wellhub account number or use their iPad to sign in, but every request was refused. No alternatives or assistance were offered, despite my long-standing membership and the staff knowing who I was. This lack of flexibility and customer service was extremely frustrating and disappointing. I hope management will consider offering better support and solutions for members in similar situations in the future.

The location is excellent with access to all sorts of mass transit. Don't go here in peak hours, the locker rooms are too small to handle the crowd. I've been here and there wasn't a single locker available. Lines for the shower.
Being fairly new the equipment is in excellent shape. They don't have as many machines as a suburban branch but they have enough to cover all body parts. The first floor functional training area is wonderful, the best part of this branch. The only thing missing is a tire to flip.

This is a nice lifetime location. They’re located in the penn one building. They have a very nice lobby and Restaurant inside the building. The gym is very clean shout out to the cleaning crew. BEST MACHINES out of alll life time city locations. Downside is there’s no spa or pool wish they had less showers and a bigger sauna and steam room that would make this lifetime perfect. They also need to work on their customer service but today when I went in the customer service team was so much better!!!
I have been a member for almost two years. There customer service team was so much better today I really heard them motivated welcoming in guest saying goodbye when leaving that was nice and made me feel welcomed to be there. The new guy working in the front is super Friendly! I’m glad they got more friendlier people to work as the greeters of this location. Because this is really one of the best locations in all NYC a lot of the machines you find here you won’t be able to find at any other location. They keep the machines well maintained And all the weights feel even. I just really wished they served green juices at the café! But overall, this is a great gym not too Overcrowded everything is brand new. It’s super clean and I love working out here!

You pay $450 a month but can’t access a perfectly functioning in-body machine to take body measurements, without the presence of a trainer. Apparently because the machine is “finicky”. I’ve used the machine twice before with no issue, but all of a sudden, nope it’s finicky. So yeah you need to book a trainer session every time, just to take simple body measurements in order to have accurate progress reports. Or god forbid you have to pace around the area for 30 minutes to grab a trainer when they’re between sessions. I swear, everything about this gym is a sales pitch to try and make you buy something. With all due respect to the trainers, I don’t want to waste their time with a 50 minute session when I literally just need to step on the machine myself for 2 minutes and get a tearsheet. For $450 a month for the membership, what a rip off. The sheer unwillingness to help, in any manner or form, is just so disappointing. I politely asked to speak with the manager but the front desk was keen on resolving it themselves- with the take home response being “good luck if you find a trainer, if not, whatever”. Smh

Lifetime staff are incredibly rude, and it’s baffling how they even get hired. If you’re only interested in playing pickleball, Lifetime might be your only option in NYC since they don’t have real competition—allowing them to act however they want. However, if you’re looking for an exclusive membership experience or are more focused on fitness classes, Equinox is a far better choice. The service and professionalism at Equinox are miles ahead of Lifetime.

I’ve worked out in very luxury high class gyms from many states all over and I’ve only tried out two other lifetime gyms in Manhattan but I must say by far this location exceeds my expectations! it has everything you need. It’s very clean. Every thing is always available to use. This gym is pretty huge, considering the fact that you’re quite literally in the heart of Manhattan. I really appreciate the detail they’ve put in this place and how kind and helpful everyone is here as well. Very cool views to work out to, and my favorite part is the alpha floor on the last level and the recovery rooms! I haven’t tried out any classes, but I’ve noticed there aren’t many available yoga classes and the sauna and the ladies room is a bit small which would probably be the only con to me here. Nonetheless, this is going to be my one location that I’ll stick to.

Overall a very nice well equipped and maintained facility with a sterile feel. Pickleball is a big deal here. Essentially no functional sauna, steam or aquatics. Not a fan of this location. The team does not care to follow through with simple tasks - and fail to mention things “out of their paygrade” to management. Management seems to not care either ex: 2 water bottle stations broken for 2 months and woman’s sauna broken for over 2 months. No chance on getting any sort of reimbursement either for their lack of diligence. Recently the AC on the 3rd floor seems to be underperforming. Concierge gave snarky remarks and were overall condescending.
Other than that this gym is filthy. Locker rooms are NEVER clean. The floors visibly look disgusting and the sauna has a foul smell. I have stopped showering here because of the amount of times I have walked into stalls and have been able to articulate that they have not been cleaned. They have locker room staff but those people are on their phone almost anytime I see them.
Not a great look for lifetime and the “prestige” they opt to bring.

Although I live in the Upper West Side, I make every effort to come to Lifetime Penn 1. The facility is well designed, equipment state of the art, and the staff out of this world.
Every week, I do a Signature Group Training Class with Ceci Perez, who is an incredible trainer. She makes every class engaging by pushing us outside of our comfort zone and encouraging us along the way. After every class, we debrief, handshake it out (you gotta come to Lifetime to experience that), and takes time to get to know us personally. She then emails us updates and reaches out throughout the week so check-in. She’s an incredible coach and an equally if not more, an incredible person.
Another reason I love this location is because of Kween at Lifetime Café. Her positive attitude and infectious energy consistently brightens my day. Not to mention the shakes she makes are INCREDIBLE! To the point I’ve come just to see her and have another. Kween’s friendliness and authenticity is really inspiring. She welcomes every single person the same exact way and her kindness knows no limitations - she’s the perfect ending to any workout and the best way to continue on with my day.
Lifetime is lucky to have these two. I am so grateful to be a member here. :)

Huge lover of Lifetime BUT especially this location! Not only because of the convenience of being close to work/LIRR - this location by far has the best instructors, i.e Kenny Ferrer! There are those rare individuals who not only teach you how to lift weights or run faster but also transform your entire perspective on health and wellness. Kenny is such a beacon of inspiration, whose dedication and expertise have reshaped countless lives, including mine. From the moment I stepped into the gym, Kenny stood out not just as a trainer but as a mentor, and a confidant. I’m a huge fan of this gym! The showers are in need of some serious improvement, but it’s not Lifetime’s fault. The previous gym ownership is to blame for that. I really hope Lifetime will upgrade the sinks and showers soon; they’re far from ideal. The showers don’t drain properly, and the sinks hardly work. Despite these issues, the gym offers everything you need in one place. My only wish is that they extended their operating hours.
