I am writing to express my concern about an issue that occurred during a Zumba class. I arrived only one minute late, yet I was not allowed to enter the class. This was extremely frustrating and disappointing, especially considering the significant amount of money I pay for my membership in order to attend classes and maintain a consistent workout routine. In the past, members who arrived slightly late were still allowed in without any problems. However, it seems that suddenly a strict rule has been enforced requiring everyone to be there five minutes before class. I completely understand the importance of punctuality and class structure, but I also believe there should be a reasonable grace period, especially when instructors themselves are sometimes late. I hope this situation can be addressed, as it affects the overall experience and value of being a member.

I first started going when I was 20 yrs old back in 2016. I have since cancelled my membership a few weeks ago because it has become too small since renovations. I had no problem with the machines prior, now there’s more weight lighting stations downstairs. Nothing wrong with that, but they got rid of other machines I used prior. Plus reduced treadmills. Before there were more thread mills available. They should not have made renovations to reduce the space of the gym. It’s very crowded and crazy, so many people waiting for a ticket to the class in a small congested area where people are also working out. I miss the old gym layout and space. If they wanted to add new machines they should not have made the gym smaller. They have lots of members that pay monthly plus now they added new things like a return or late fee, so it’s hard to believe they truly needed to sell off or give up the additional space. I have no complaints as far as the staff everyone is always polite and helpful. Please , we need more space, or maybe you should have closed off allowing more members to join and cap it to a certain number. I do not suggest getting a membership strictly for the sauna use. Back in the day it was well kept and clean, now due to so many people and overcrowded, it’s just disgusting I don’t think so many people should be in a small sauna room together, is this hygienic? People still come in the sauna with their already used dirty clothes from working out or outside, they even keep their shoes on, the sauna has a smell, the high heat masks it a bit. I miss having the space to lay down and relax in the sauna now I’m huddled in a corner with about 5-6 other people on their phones (unsafe btw). I don’t believe it’s ethical, hygienic or safe to encourage people to join a gym that’s already so crowded.

What is the least busiest time? For someone who has anxiety I don’t like to be crowded or standing afar waiting for weight lifting machine. Can u tell me what time is the the best where it’s quiet or not crowded ? I appreciate it thank u

EThe most disgusting gym I’ve ever been to. staff is untrained , unprofessional and overall just rude. EMPLOYEE SOPHIA IS especially RUDE and has nothing nice to say when speaking to the customers. No wonder this place is a mess. No r
One even knows what they’re doing here. The machines are always broken. Place is a mess. Bathroom is gross and toilets look HORRIBLE. do not waste ur money for this junk place they need to be shut down. They do not listen nor care for their customers. As well as it being a women’s gym and there is OLD MEN using the WOMENS CHANGING ROOM and switching machines to go behind me when I’m trying to work out. DISGUSTING!

Update 10/17: after a year of going to LR, its renovations were a much needed addition. As another point to gym goers. Read the signage. Stop leaving your bags and jackets on the floor. The sauna is no phones or shoes, it’s rude and inconsiderate. Working out near the lockers should be avoided. Stop inconveniencing others and lacking situational awareness. I also hope the studio will eventually put in a stage so it’s easier for everyone to see the instructor from any part of the room.
Update as of 12/14: this is not about the gym itself but the gym goers. Some folks really lack common sense and respect. First off, if you are late to a class you stay in the back, don’t try to find a spot closer to the front just because that”s “your spot,” when it’s rude but also now you’re blocking others so keep arms-width distance apart and stay in your space. Stop leaving your bags on the studio floors, there are signs everywhere and it’s a safety hazard. And take your phone calls out of the studio or away from where others are working out. If you take any equipment then you put the equipment back and clean up after yourself. You wipe the machine before and after, respect the space. If you are sick, do not come to the gym, you’re clearly contagious and that’s selfish of you. The bathrooms should be clean, flush the toilet and keep the stall and toilet clean. Stop bringing your phones or talking in the sauna when others are there, be respectful of the fact that there are others there too. Lockers should have locks on them, so we know it’s occupied but also to keep your items safe, you’re putting way too much faith in others to not steal from you. Quit blocking the doorways and stairs, this is for people to move in and out not for you to chat or use your phone. Lastly, quit hogging the machines, equipment and space. We all pay for our dues and should be mindful that this is a shared space. We are all adults and should show courtesy and respect to all.
I’ve been to plenty of gyms from planet fitness to blink, to one of Groupon classes for boxing, expensive day pass classes and other classes across the city. I always thought LR was going to be super expensive. For $35 a month, I can take ALL the classes I want, access equipment that is NEVER HOGGED, change in a locker room, AND end my day in a sauna, while being in a comfortable space surrounded by amazing and respectful women. I’ll take it. I literally joined a week ago and have gone three times so far and absolutely love it. I feel better physically and mentally. I look forward to trying more classes and continuing my fitness journey, I hope others do too!

I have been a member on and off for several years.. since they lost part of the gym.. they have cut down the class size… The anxiety of being glue to your phone to register for class is overwhelming… All the instructors are amazing and deserve a 10/10. The manger is sweet and kind.. The gym is a little run down and unkept, but the instructors are the reason why people gravitate to that location. Just be warn their is a lady with curl black hair who is a member, who screams WEPA… yeahhh.. from the top of her lungs, that over powers the music and the instructors.. Even with ear plugs her voice is over powering… I guarantee you you will come out of that class annoyed or with a headache, and it takes away from the experience…

My mom goes to this gym for years. I can’t bring it on words how they are kind, caring and amazing staffs there. Like I never had this experience. Recently I realized that more when my mom didn’t answer the phone and I went there to ask for her, you can’t imagine how they were caring about her to call and see where she is! You can’t get such a kindness. Beside that my mom said they have great classes, great trainers and great staffs. She is 67 years old and she can’t stop going there. It brings her happiness. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU TO GO TO THIS LOCATION.
Love,

We need more weightlifting machines. (Below I included pictures of equipment I wish we had based on the areas I see the ladies most interested in working out.) Why is there no music playing downstairs in the weight room? I forgot my headphones one time and it was torture hearing nothing. They have speakers but no music. I hope they plan on redoing the bathroom and locker area. It’s pretty 80s in there. Downstairs needs more attention in terms of the machines and OH MY GOD THE MATS ARE SO DIRTY! Lol I don’t know how people share things like that.

This gym is awful. I signed up went once and hated it. They shrunk it down and it feels super crowded and no air circulation. The bathrooms are gross and there are not enough machines. Also there is no music playing? And they are saying they are renovating but that’s a lie. They sold half the gym to another company. I tried to cancel my membership and they said $150 to cancel!!!!! Even tho I went once!! What a scam!!!

Very dissatisfied with the cardio section of the gym, feels very small and tight since it is at the entrance, very limited cardio machines. the windows should at least be tinted, it is uncomfortable to be right in front the glass where everyone on the street stares at you. There barely is any AC/ventilation, it is always so hot inside the gym. Gym hours are also limited, They should extend gym hours back to 10pm, or even to 11pm during the week.

What is the point of it being an only women gym if the entire place is exposed through transparent glass for the public view? Why does Business owners in this diverse country Which allows, religious freedom, not take into initiatives that the second largest religion in the world is Islam, and the Muslim women need to be modest and unseen, and not open to public, especially for working out circumstances where women will be seen drenched in sweat, and making all sorts of movements, which shouldn’t be seen by strange men or the public in general. For once, can there be an environment where women can dress suitable for working out to exercise without being exposed to the public? Thought I found the gym until the transparent view for the outsiders.

Been a member for the last few months feel very disappointed for the last changes at this location. They created a new room for classes that lack of ventilation and a safe exit. That huge room has such a small door That is VERY unsafe in case of emergency. Second all the classes are difficult because there is not proper ventilation. They say will start running the AC IN THE SUMMER, classes are too hot and no ventilation, so absorbing the monoxide of others people sweeting is unsafe. It is always dirty, during class you always find on the floor long pieces of hair all over the studio, very unsanitary. totally do not recommend this gym.

I’ve been a loyal member of this gym for over 3 years, and I truly love it—I even travel an hour just to work out here. The environment is positive, the staff are always friendly and supportive, and I genuinely enjoy being part of this community.
I do wish Lucille Roberts would reopen a location in the Bronx. So many women I know are looking for a comfortable, all-women’s gym, and having one closer to home would make a big difference for many of us.
Lately, I’ve noticed that part of the gym has been closed off, and the cardio machines, especially the treadmills, have been moved near the windows. As a Muslim woman, this makes it uncomfortable for me to work out, since people can see in from the outside. It would really help if the windows were tinted or if the cardio equipment was moved to a more private area, like it was originally.
I hope Lucille Roberts takes this into consideration when making future changes. Creating a more inclusive and private space would really support not only Muslim women but anyone who prefers a bit more privacy while working out.

The staff has never once greeted me. I also had some heavy bags I was carrying and was yelled at for not immediately signing in. The class I wanted to attend didn't start for more than 15 minutes late so I switched to a bike but could never get it to up the difficulty level. I wasn't about to ask the unfriendly staff for help!

I requested a day pass because I was considering making this my gym, but wanted to make sure with the tour, but ever since I requested the pass all I get is phone calls from this place at the most random times, like seriously? I was gonna go on my own time, and they just keep calling. Now I don't want to go at all, because all those calls and emails are a HUGE RED FLAG for me personally. Can't trust a place that acts so desperate for customers.

I have been going here for a year now and this gym is genuinely horrible. I came here for the convenience of living close by but at this point I’d rather drive anywhere else rather than attend this so called gym. To start off the gym is dirty and practically never cleaned. They charge a maintenance fee but things are either broken or not cleaned like I said. The basement looks so old and not a pleasing environment to be in. They tried to do renovation but made it so much worse. Not to mention the staff are not friendly at all. The personal trainers give u these looks as if they own the place and take up a lot of machines at once. They never wipe anything down which should be the bare minimum. I think it’s ridiculous how when training someone or waiting for their client, they’re just lounging on the benches. They are not professional at all. The bathrooms and locker room look like it’s part of a middle school. And lastly a lot of the people here don’t even look like and aren’t women. Ive heard other members complain about this too. Oh and on top of all of this, they do not have air conditioning! Horrible gym.

This location has been under renovation since the beginning of the year 2025, when they started no members were properly notified, also the capacity of members to attend classes was affected, and again none of us were notified. When we approached to talk to the manager Maryanne Rodriguez her response was " if you don't like it, you guys should go across the street where Planet Fitness is" at this point I confirmed her unprofessional behavior after I read so many reviews regarding about her rude, and overbearing conduct. Nowadays they reduce the size of the studio and the closed the room with a glass partition, that's causing lack of ventilation, there is not air circulation, the temperature is really hot, unsafe and full MONOXIDE, AND WE ALL KNOW THAT IS UNSAFE AND WE OFTEN POISON WITH THAT AT THIS LOCATION. Be aware that the new glass partition at the studio is limiting the proper and rules for safety, as well as having a tiny door for such a big room, in case of emergency we won't be able to run out of the studio not only because the small size of the exit, also because all the old cardio machines are on the way being an obstacle to be able to walk out of the studio safely, I am concerned how all the proper departments have not even review that. There are several electric cables on the way that also make the are unsafe. Is this company just looking for money without thinking that we are humans and that we deserve respect? Do we need to stop paying so they will listen to us and take us serious? After this all I will need to cancel my membership. I forgot to mention that at the Zumba classes instructors allow people to record, take pictures and posted on line without other members permission, where is the respect or privacy? Again the gym does not care for us.

It’s a terrible feeling to be paying over $30 a month, to not feel comfortable using the cardio machines. We’re forced to be looked from outside the window if we want to do cardio. The craziest part is before the renovations, no one would ever use the cardio machines by the window, because we all felt uncomfortable with everyone outside looking at us clearly. I don’t understand why curtains cant be put for the night time. There’s even been teenage boys knocking on the window, while working out at night.
It’s also terrible how they only left 4 different types of cardio machines. They recently brought in 4 stairmasters and 3 of them are already out of service. I'm surprised they got rid of the other cardio machines, like the arc trainer. In total there’s only 20 cardio machines and that's enough for all the members who go. I been a member for years, and now I’m paying $35 for a limited amount of cardio machines, while feeling uncomfortable. Please do something to give us privacy and comfortability. Also please bring back more variety of cardio machines.

Gym is not handicap accessible yet they require you to put your jacket in lockers in basement. When I complained about this with the manager she was very aggressive and turned it around like I was making up nonsense complaint. As someone with a torn ligament in my knee I cannot walk up and down stairs without a lot of pain. She was totally rude and accused me of “yelling” at her which is untrue. Also they had LOUD dance music on for the class so it was extremely hard to hear. When I said that’s why I’m speaking louder she got even more angry and said I was being aggressive and that she was going to call the cops on me. How absolutely absurd. I told her don’t pull a Karen and she totally flew off the handle. Refused to talk to me or respond to my questions thereafter and said I was threatening her and she called the police. I then asked her to give me her name which she refused. Other member later came up to me and asked me what happened as they saw the event. They said they’ve had similar experiences with this female manager and how said manager is always extremely rude when she interacts with gym customers. I’ve been a member on and off for years here even before NYSC acquisition and never had any problems with any staff. I’ve only interacted with this particular manager twice. The first time, it was fine. This time however she was super rude. Totally unacceptable to speak in such a rude tone and body language to gym members when they have valid questions and concerns about the safety and safe accessibility within the facility. Unacceptable. Please do not give your hard earned dollars to this branch. This manager needs to be fired.

Like many women, I chose to join Lucille Roberts for the privacy it provides. However, with the recent layout changes, the treadmills are now positioned in front of the large windows, making us visible to everyone outside. This has become uncomfortable for me and many other women. There needs to be a solution to help maintain our privacy.

Please bring back the gym hours to 10 pm! It was amazing when the gym was opened till 10, I had enough time to work out after work. I'm hoping the cardio machines aren't going to stay by the window, its an uncomfortable feeling working out while facing the window and random people from outside looking at you. I'm also worried that they're not going to bring in more cardio machines. Ever since the renovations, there has been a limited amount of cardio machines. It's upsetting to get to the gym and not have access to use the cardio machines, because they're all taken. I mainly come to the gym for cardio and I been stressed with the limited amount of cardio machines that remained. It's also uncomfortable that all of the cardio machines are clustered together. I been coming here for years and ever since the renovations, I been unmotivated to come because of the little amount of machines and how close together all of the cardio machines are now.

I was considering Lucille Roberts in 2025 to start doing some heavier weight lifting than my home gym can provide. I figured doing it in the company of other women, where I'm not competing with "the bros" for sets would be ideal. When I visited around noon on a weekday, I went in to check it out and the first impressions were, well, awful. It's aesthetically really run down and the layout is really strange. There was no one even working out on the main floor. Since I was really there for the weights, I waited at the check in desk. I stood there for at least five min as the woman there (her name is Aisha I believe) talked on the phone. She never looked up once to acknowledge me. So eventually I walked to the other side where a second employee was on the computer. She also never looked up or made an effort to greet me when I came within her field of view. I went back to the other side where Aisha finally got off the phone and curtly asked if I needed something. I said I was inquiring about memberships. She laid out the rate sheet and said they're going through renovations -- nothing about what is provided at each pricing tier or anything. But I still thought ok, for $40 / month maybe this is fine just for weightlifting. So I asked if I could just see the weight area, assuming she or someone could walk me down there to take a look. She said I needed to give my personal information to do that because it's a "private club." I told her I'm not certain I want to join yet. I just want to see what the weight set up is. She refused until I gave my email address. I pushed back again, saying I don't want to be marketed to if I'm not even sure I want to join at all. Then the 2nd employee came over, and began yelling that this is the policy and that I'm not allowed any further if I don't give it. I was completely shocked by her aggressive behavior. This is how you treat potential customers? Why couldn't someone just walk me down to take a quick peek at the weight room? The cardio equipment is on full view, but the rest isn't. It's that simple. So, I left. And I won't be back. NYSC is right across the street. I'd rather deal with the bros and a higher monthly costs than such horrible customer service.
EDIT: The manager's response to this review perfectly illustrates the problem. Instead of addressing the unprofessional behavior and hostile treatment I experienced, they simply restated their policy about collecting information for tours. A policy that requires potential customers to submit personal data before they can even see the facility is already questionable, but the aggressive way it was enforced is the real issue here. If Lucille Roberts wants to attract new members, they need to seriously reconsider both their tour policies and their approach to customer service. The response shows they're more interested in defending their policies than improving the customer experience. This confirms my decision to take my business elsewhere.

I am in disbelief that someone wrote such a negative review about Carlos Irala. I have been at LR since Feb 24 and have been taking all of Carlos classes each week and have never seen such behavior as H.E wrote. Carlos has always been professional and courteous. He encourages and challenge us to achieve our best; and most importantly he ensures that our form/technique is correct by demonstrating or telling us to look at someone who is in the correct form. I look forward to my workouts each week with Carlos and the group of strong awesome women who would not tolerate any disrespect.

I have been coming to LR since this April, mainly for group exercises, because it gives me a sense of routine. In addition, I have been motivated by some amazing women who have become close friends. Within this time period, I have attended many of the classes in order to find the ones that fit my style. I have met the amazing instructors, both male and female, each showing a very special kind of drive and motivational style.
By now I have established a weekly routine from Monday to Saturday. I regularly attend the classes of my favorite instructors: Mr. Carlos Irala’s Strength and Stretch, Ms. Shayna Hewitt’s Bootcamp and Cardio Dance, Mr. Darryl Freeman’s Chisel and Total Body Conditioning, Ms. Johanny Cuello’s Zumba, and finally Ms. Nancy Hsu’s Yoga. (I miss that I can’t attend Ms. Nancy’s Yoga on Saturdays anymore.)
Each of these instructors are true professionals with a passion for fitness. They have excellent communication, are highly energetic, keep the workout area safe for the exercises, and make it fun and exciting, yet challenge us to meet our own goals. They show respect, patience, and have a pleasant rapport with everyone. I feel welcomed, energized, and motivated to be in this gym with women of all types of skills, body shapes, and sizes. I am glad to be in the room with these professionals who keep us motivated to keep coming back; every week I look forward to these classes . . . and so far, I have lost ten pounds.

I just read Humaiyana Effat's comment about Carlos Irara. I was totally surprised on what she said and didn’t know where it all came from. I have been a member of Lucille Roberts for about 15 years and have attended Carlos Irara's class multiple times and I would say that it is one of my favorite class. I won’t skip any of his classes and will only miss attending when I am away on vacation.
Carlos is a very good instructor and he always motivated and challenged everyone in the class to work out harder. I honestly believe that he will never do anything disrespectful to any of his members in the class. I never saw him touching, yelling, throwing out someone's belonging or etc.
He is a good instructor and a very professional, like any other instructors at Lucille Roberts. He knows what he is doing and I personally believe that he is an asset to Lucille Roberts Gym as an instructor/personal trainer.

I came across a negative review on LR websitethat i found quite shocking Re:"Humalyara Effat". I've been a member of LR for over 7 years and while it is a women's gym, male trainers are hired to work and the staff makes it clear when joining. Like all gyms there are always areas for improvement however the service and professionalism of LR instructors 1:1 or in class settings has always been positive, including with one of my favorites Carlos Irara.
When it comes to fitness, he challenges us all and knows his stuff to help us achieve our individual goals. Unfortunately, there's been some serious accusations regarding Carlos and I can attest he is one of the kindest and hardworking instructors I've met at LR, I have never heard him yelling at anyone in class or heard of him touching without permission to correct form. I enjoy his classes, as do many of the members at LR.

I have been a member of this Lucille Roberts since 2017, but only recently started taking classes to help with consistency and form. Instructor Carlos Irala has genuinely changed my fitness journey for the better with classes that are genuinely challenging and have a focus on strength/endurance building and proper form for exercises. His direct communication is mixed with fun banter that makes you want to push yourself beyond your limits while laughing through the inevitable DOMS that you WILL get from his fully encompassing workouts. I knew his classes were working in combination with my own workouts when I started to see definition in parts of my body I never had seen this kind of muscle. Even the ladies at the front desk noticed!
The women who attend these classes and the gym alongside me are also so supportive and loving. I love the way we cheer each other on as we do what we set out to do (which is getting fit). As much as Carlos will push you, he also creates an environment that harbors respect above all else, and to understand that he's here help. Needless to say, he's the only male instructor I would feel comfortable with to not waste my time and to respect my boundaries while being clear and direct.
Tldr; Lucille Roberts is forever my gym of choice and I look forward to getting more results with the help and assistance of Instructor Carlos and through access to this amazing gym/team!!! ❤️

I recently came across a negative review and wanted to share my experience with the gym, particularly with my instructor, Carlos Irala, whom I've been taking classes with for nearly two years. First, I believe that our personal biases and insecurities can influence our perceptions, especially on tough days. And while I have my own bad days, attending Carlos' classes always lifts my spirits and makes me feel empowered, which is why I wholeheartedly recommend him and his classes. Additionally, I've never witnessed him physically touch anyone during class or take someone’s belongings. We’re not allowed to use our phones during sessions—it's a strict rule—but even so, I've never seen him grab a phone and move it.
Lastly, I am also from a marginalized community and would not remain silent if I had witnessed any of the behavior described. Instead, i can say with confidence I leave his class feeling like I found my tribe.

"I completely disagree with the negative review about Carlos Irara's class. I've been going to Lucille Roberts since 2000, and I've always had a great experience with all the staff. Carlos is one of the most motivational instructors I've met. His classes are a fantastic way to unwind after work, and he’s never been anything but respectful. He challenges us while making sure everyone, no matter their fitness level, feels included and supported. The staff at Lucille Roberts have consistently been the best over the years, creating a welcoming environment, and Carlos is no exception. I truly believe he's a valuable part of this.

Overall this is a great place to take classes with excellent instructors. They take their responsibilities to the members seriously and always make sure we get a safe and challenging workout. That said, it is unfair to single out an instructor who is loved and appreciated by the many members who consistently take his classes. Carlos Irala is a true professional and we respect him for taking care of us. He promotes a great spirit of camararderie in his classes which keeps us coming back week after week, year after year. Items like weights, cell phones, and water bottles pose a safety hazard when in the immediate vicinity of members exercising. It also puts the club at risk of legal actions if this safety policy is not enforced. Corrections of form are part of the instructor's job and in my opinion, much appreciated. If these actions are offensive to you, then group classes are not for you.

After reading some of the negative reviews, I feel compelled to share a positive one! I recently upgraded so I can go to the NYSC locations and still prefer the machines and atmosphere here mostly. 90% of the machines work at least, and the condition of the weight circuit and other items are good too! I agree that maybe people haven’t seen the other gyms but this is definitely a step up in many ways. The staff has always been friendly and helpful to me and they take feedback to heart. My only complaint was the rusty container for wipes but they’ve replaced them. And the music is loud, but I just bring noise canceling headphones. Classes also fill up because the room also has machines, but I’ve always been able to get a spot if I want one. Glad to be a member here!

We have been at Lucille's on and off over the years and it was okay. This time, we were greeted by Aisha at the counter who did an all around wonderful job. Great addition to Lucille's! The gym is clean, many types of different equipment and we're enjoying our visits. So very much better than Planet Fitness. Sorry we didn't go to Lucille's first!

A great gym that creates a welcoming and comfortable environment for women of all shapes, sizes, and age. The staff is amazing and if you are serious about losing weight I HIGHLY recommend getting a personal trainer. Invest in yourself and ask for Sadia.
I have been working out with Sadia for less than a month and have lost 11lbs! She listens to you, helps you figure out your goals, and creates a routine that works for you. If you’re worried about going the gym on your own because you forget what weights, sets, or reps, you were supposed to do, do not worry! She creates a google sheet where you can keep track of all of those details! She looks at it too and celebrates your success. 10/10 Thank you Sadia!!

They will cancel your membership if you don’t have their app on your phone. If you don’t feel like to download the app, they would simply disallow you to check in the gym and saying you can’t check in bc you don’t have the app. Some staffs are very rude to members.

This place needs some fixing. Also the usual Tuesday body pump Les Mills is not from Les Mills. The guy makes up his own stuff and has nothing to do with Les Mills. I know this because Les Mills is global and have same curriculum, they give out same expectations.

I will have to unfortunately start going to this gym a bit given that NYSC - Forest Hills (my usual gym) is closing. I took a tour and was greatly disappointed. It seems as if this gym is underestimating the strength of woman. When I went there, the highest dumbbell pair I saw was 40 pounds. When you go to other (all gender) gyms, the highest dumbbell weight is goes at least up 100 pounds. It's like this gym was created for women but by the idea that men had. As a woman, as much as I do cardio, I like to do just as much strength training. Unfortunately, I will not be able to do my leg days here given that the weights don't go higher than 40 pounds. Once I continue to train my upper body and go beyond the 40 pounds they have here, I will also not be able to workout at Lucille Roberts.

A lot of these negative reviews seem to come from people who haven’t been to many other gyms. For $25/month, the equipment selection, class schedule, and hours of operation are more than sufficient. It’s not a luxury sports club and never claims to be. I have never encountered sticky handles and the facility is always tidy, with minimal out of order equipment. Trainers everywhere are hit or miss, so I can’t comment on that topic. But, bottom line: compared to other commercial gyms that cost $45/mo and are filled with grunting bros, broken bathroom door locks, and people using the gym like a social club (i.e., bringing in coffee and snacks and sitting around blocking equipment), Lucille Roberts has been a largely positive experience.

I went to other gyms and have to say this gym has a lot of available equipment and d the energy is good. I don’t feel like I’m prey to men lol. I am able to focus on my work while working out and I spend hours diving into work and then getting into another machine. The location is 100000% awesome you can literally have an amazing meal after or before a workout. I recently signed up again and I’m looking forward to going back today. 4 stars because I wish the hours were later.

I was gonna sign up for a membership since it's all women gym.i was talking about workout and gym with 1 of my co worker, until she showed me how her trainer is very disrespectful.my friend had a membership and signed for a trainer that cost $300. Which became a waste of the customer money because the personal trainer attitude or it can be the gym policy. Which can be a terrible policy. My friend had Covid and did home Covid test, and showed me how she texted the trainer and told her about her Covid situation, the trainer response was unexpected, she replied and requested for a doc note. Does every person actually go to the doctor for every small thing, a common cold, migraine and Covid? With Covid the more you stay home the better. The trainer did not reach out to her any further to work out left sessions. However hearing how this gym works won't motivate many women, whoever signs up here must be careful with their terms and policies, it doesn't make sense. Also thoughts of this company, 1 other queens location had to be shut down, they continued to charge customers during lockdown. Knowing all this, changed my mind I rather go unisex gym, planet fitness they are not so complicated.

Embarrassing for a women-only gym.
The weights are old, rusty
Treadmills handles and surfaces are sticky
Front desk makes an announcement every five minutes in the last 45 min before closing, URGING people to leave
Depressing lighting
Very limited hours
The place seems to run on a very strict, low budget.
The only good thing going for this gym is it offers classes.

I just wanted to leave a little appreciation review to Lucielle Roberts Gym. I did not check the holiday closing hours so I came and it was closed, I really wanted to get my workout done so I went to retro fitness. I forgot what it’s like to go to a regular gym that’s mixed with men and women, I had such a horrible experience there and the men look at you like you are prey, there is no breathable workout space and not clean. Omg I am just so thankful for this women’s gym. I will literally never attend any other gym again that’s not this one. Even though it is a bit old, I feel extremely comfortable in this gym and love the feminine energy that flows through this place. Thank you for opening up this gym and I hope more locations around queens open soon.

The gym is generally fine, and I've been coming here for about a year now. Since it is an all-women's gym, it is especially beneficial to Muslim women and those who wear hijab. I know there was recently a male trainer hired , which bothers me because I wear a headscarf and travel from the Bronx all the way to Queens for this women's gym, having a male trainer just defeats my main purpose of coming here and I'm sure many other Muslim women would feel the same way. It was perfectly fine before but now with a male trainer I don’t feel comfortable enough to come to the gym, I could go to a gym near me but I don’t go since I am a Muslim women and came here instead by traveling 1 hour. It would be helpful if this problem was solved.

AFWUL EXPERIENCE!!!
In 2022 I posted 5 star review. Now I’m saying the opposite! Please save your time, money and energy and AVOID this trash place at all costs.
New management, new rules - you can’t work out unless you have updated app, no matter how much money you’ve already paid (was paid before the new app came into effect). Always dirty, no matter when you come to work out. They double charge you and refuse to address it on a timely manner. Many complained about music downstairs, addressed it multiple times and front desk said nothing can be done.. the front desk manager Jessenia is very rude, demanding to download the app in order to use the gym. There are many older generation women who don’t have smartphones or apps installed - doesn’t make sense at all. Management/owner please educate Jessenia how to speak to customers, you are losing clients. Many of employers left because of her attitude.

I am writing this review to share my experience with getting a personal trainer from LR at this location. Her name is Julia, I would highly recommend her to anyone. I started training with Julia, in November, and saw results in getting toned legs, arms and flatter abs. I also saw major results with my glutes, one of the goals I discussed with Julia, was getting a bigger butt. This is something that Julia, worked on with me. I saw major improvement with my posture and entire body. Julia always told me consistency is key. She also provided my with dietary suggestions along with additional changes I can make to get results.
I highly, highly recommend Julia, if you looking to put in work and get the results, then train with her.

My experience at Lucille Roberts is just perfect. Since it’s an all women gym, I have always felt very comfortable doing my workouts. No one is looking at you weird, we all get to be in our own little world while we workout. Also I get personal training by one of their personal trainers, Sadia. Absolutely amazing, she has really helped me reach many of my goals and also taught me a lot about what a healthy body can look like. I would definitely recommend this gym to any woman who wants to start going to the gym.

Big fan of my local Lucille Roberts in Forest Hills! It’s nothing fancy in terms of the basement weight room (on par with a college gym, I’d say), but it has everything you need and there’s enough space to not feel crowded. Basic showers and daily-use lockers. The selling point are the free (no sign-up) morning & evening classes! Great vibes with women of all ages and good instructors, from Zumba and Kickboxing to “Chisel” and “Butt & Gutt.” Ask the kind front desk staff for a tour if you’re interested!

Nice workout place, several different classes and lots of different equipment to use. There'stwo floors, the main floor and basement. Main (1st) floor has the large studio, ellipticals, stationary bycicles, and treadmills. Basement has locker rooms, a small sauna, weight rooms and more treadmills and elliptical machines. There's also space for mat works, and rowing machines. Their classes range from cardio, zumba, pilates, piyo, and other high intensity workouts. There'salso personal trainers. I've been coming here since 2014 and I like it. I don't really talk to the front staff, so I've got nothing to say about customer service. I wish that they would have a greater variety of classes, like more yoga or even belly dancing classes. The short lived Barre class was not as good as it could have been as there were no bars to hold onto, I guess the gym didn't think it would make sense to invest in some.

There are no specific rules that prohibit doing cardio exercises on your own during cardio training. We found a place to practice, and before that we personally asked a staff if it’s okay we do cardio exercises, the answer was “yes, you can”. I love this gym!!! I’ve been going to a few Lucille Roberts for many years. The monthly fees are VERY low & there IS a yearly maintenance fee as well, but it’s relatively cheap in comparison to a lot of other gyms. Management is very sweet & attentive & they will work with you if you want to freeze, hold or cancel your membership. They were very understanding throughout the pandemic.. Sadly, after it opened back up, I had to cancel my membership because, vaccination mandates, and it was very easy to shut off my membership. Needless to say, when the mandates were lifted I RAN back to my gym and they offered me a discount for being a “returning member”!! The gym itself is very well-kept.. Of course there are instances where there is a disrespectful person who makes a mess of the bathroom, but the cleaning ladies get to it right away & it doesn’t stay dirty for long at all. There’s a nice sauna, there are PLENTY of weights & machines, there are so many workout classes, motivating music, friendly people, Purell wipes to wipe down the machines after each use, etc.. you won’t find all these wonderful amenities at any other gym for a lower price than you’ll be paying here monthly, PLUS it’s women ONLY!! I’m very much in love with this gym and can see myself coming here for a very long time :)

I had been a member of Lucille Roberts on and off throughout the past 10 years. In the beginning of 2020 I rejoined the gym since my work schedule finally gave me the time I needed to get back in to shape. Unfortunately a few months later the pandemic happened. As the gym would frequently close due to the number of positive cases in the area, I understood not being able to attend the gym consistently was for health and safety concerns.
Although I was frustrated with the gym’s frequent closings, I remained a loyal member. However, I was unfortunately no longer allowed to enter the gym in August of 2021 due to the vaccination requirements for NYC gyms. I understood this was a legal situation which the Forest Hills location did not have control over, and still I hoped to be able to remain a loyal member.
I was then told by a manager that I had the option to cancel at anytime due to the pandemic without cancellation fees, or I could freeze my membership for free, and unfreeze at anytime. I was optimistic about returning to the gym, so froze my membership and continued to remain a loyal member.
After a few months I realized there was a $5 charge to my account going unnoticed. When I contacted the gym to ask why I was being charged, the answer I received was simply due to the freeze I issued on my account. Apparently it was NOT free to freeze my account. I then decided it was time to cancel my membership since it didn’t seem I would be allowed to enter the gym in the near future and did not want to continue paying $5 a month for a service I was not using.
I was then given a “run around” to cancel, and told I needed to cancel online. When I attempted to cancel online the webpage said I needed to contact the location to cancel. When I called the gym again, I was then told I needed to send a message though the contact portion of the website and someone would contact me to cancel. A few days later I was contacted by the same woman who I spoke to on the phone which made me feel as if the process to cancel my membership was a ploy to prolong my cancellation. I was able to cancel over the phone, but I would still need to pay the yearly $70 fee even though the due date for my yearly renewal wasn’t for another 3 weeks. I was also told if I had cancelled 3 days prior I would have been able to avoid the $70 charge. When I tried to see if there was some way to avoid this charge, I was merely given a reiteration of company policy, and told that I signed a contract to pay a yearly fee, so there was nothing I could do about it. She then blamed my reason for not being allowed to enter the facility on the city. I understand the city does not allow me to enter the gyms in NYC at this time, however when I signed that yearly contract, I did not agree to continue paying fees should a pandemic occur. I did not agree to pay fees when I was not allowed to enter the facility.
I sadly will not be returning to or recommending Lucille Roberts or any gym under the NY Sports Club umbrella due to the way I was treated like a number, not a person who had been a loyal member of Lucille Roberts for many years and even though the roughest stages of COVID-19. As a business owner myself, due to the pandemic I have adjusted my policies and accommodated my clients when necessary out of respect and understanding. It’s a shame Lucille Roberts could not do the same.

Good gym but not great. Gym is old Bd it shows. Not kept up and staff is more concerned about making constant announcements than dirty bathrooms and no paper. Too many fees on top of monthly fee.

The bathrooms are always dirty, and the employees are not sympathetic at all. The AC always seems to break in the summer, but they still allow classes to happen in an unconditioned room.

Dropped in for a tour today and the place seems very Covid friendly- very clean place, everyone wears masks, the machines are properly spaced out, hand sanitizing stations, and the front desk worker seems very friendly. I got my first month waived as per their new years discount. Excited to be losing new quarantine weight.

Avoid this scam - I sent cancellation request online while they were closed last April and never went there since last March, all of sudden, my account told me i still have the monthly charges from them through Jan 2021. They are thieves, let's start a class lawsuit - let the prosecutors seize their hard drives to see how many misconductions they have been committed to... people, take action

Horrible to cancel, heard this from multiple people while I was at the gym and I should have listened before I decided to stay on with them last year. The old manager gave misinformation, the new manager has an entitled attitude and is not compassionate to people who are dealing with the aftermath of COVID 19. As long as they are getting the money they want and need from those who don't have it they don't care. If you tell them you will pay the cancellation fee in cash, because I don't have a card to put it on nor do I have extra cash to even pay but I just want this done, the front desk person said they will not accept it and my account will just stay open perpetually collecting a debt on an account for no reason. It's disgraceful greed and attitudes like this that had the New York Sports Club and its affiliated gyms in the news for the fees they were collecting during Covid 19 shut down.

Back in March, when the governor shut down the gym, I wrote emails to the previous general manager at LR FH, TSI here to help email, as well as electronic requests through their website for cancellation. Of course my email was not replied. I also sent a written request, which was also ignored.
So when I saw the monthly fee charge in April, I disputed with my bank. I have not heard from the gym, so I thought my request was processed....how naive was I.
I was not aware of the gym reopening since September, no communication whatsoever till November. Suddenly, I start to get TEXT, EMAIL and PHONE CALLs about past dues. Now I'm puzzled. Why wasn't my request processed ?
So I sent another CERTIFIED MAIL to the new general manager Liliana Charria to request membership cancellation. I also attached my previous requests. Of course, I did not get any replies. During this time, there were THREE attempted credit card charges by LR FH during the two weeks period.
Not getting any response, and also getting tired of disputing charges, I called my bank to request a new card with new numbers one morning. Interestingly, that evening, I finally got a CALL and EMAIL from LR FH saying my request will be processed. Coincidence ? I think NOT !
Oh wait, your request cannot be processed because you need to update your new card info with us first !! so you can pay the cancellation fees, and 45 days extra monthly dues !!
I kindly replied to Liliana's email to remind her, according to the New York attorney general's court filing, there's a Temporary Restraining Order (TSO) against Town Sports International (TSI), NYSC, and Lucille Roberts. The TSO states that: TSI is hereby temporarily restrained from charging, or attempting to charge, any dues, fines, or penalties to members in New York who have submitted cancellation requests since March 16, 2020. The TRO shall remain in full force and effect until the new hearing on January 15, 2021.
Of course, my email is once again unanswered.
All of the correspondence has been submitted to NY AG's consumer Frauds Bureau.

Gym is nice, staff is friendly, very clean. People are wearing masks. I’ve seen some people get mad over having to pay $10 to cancel and stay 45 days more before it sets in but the sales people explain that to you when you join so just an FYI

Gym itself is ok but it's very tricky to cancel it. Even I went in person to cancel it and the people from the front desk said I m all set. So I assume it's done.
And, five months after they started to charge me again without my permission and saying because they can't reach me on the phone. So I need to stay on phone available even five months after and can't go the personal trip?
And they even emailed me after they charged me not before and without permission. So if you cannot get phone calls all the time you will get charged?
One star only for the gym itself not for the services.

I have been coming to Lucille's on and off (due to moving out of state) for 8+years now! There is new equipment and the group classes, etc. are great. I go about 5 times a week and can honestly say it is one of the better gyms in queens. Love the variety of classes and instructors, they really push you to your limit! If you are looking for a full body workout, that will have you covered in sweat by the end of the class, taking one of Ovidio and Evelyn's classes is a must! They are great at providing modifications when necessary, and walk around during the class fixing your form. Front desk has also been helpful and attentive. Definitely recommend! #HereforLR

DO NOT GIVE YOUR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION TO THIS GYM! ITS A SCAM! When you decide to no longer attend this gym and cancel your membership they will continue to charge your credit card even though you paid the 10 dollar cancellation fee and receive the letter that you canceled. They will say that you have to pay for the next 45 days even though you are no longer attending the gym. They raised my gym membership fee and charged my card without my consent.

I used to love going to Lucille Roberts but lately I’m so aggravated with this place. Their always raising the membership. The equipment is defective, and there’s hair all over the gym floor. You definitely don’t get enough for what you pay. You’re better off saving your money and joining a planet fitness or blink because there is more space and more machines to use that work!

The level of customer service is terrible. I joined about two years ago and was initially happy. Once they got taken over the prices went up. I was fine with the increases but then they started with the different charges. I tried cancelling multiple times and they gave me the runaround and cancellation still entails a 45 day notice on top of a cancellation charge. I ended up just paying it off because I can't deal with them anymore. If you have the annual plan, it's even more.
In the gym, the treadmills are always out of service. If one happens to go out of service, it takes them months to repair. I submitted requests online to their main site and still noticed months later, the machines were still down, even after being tended to. For the price we're paying, I feel the opportunities are lacking in this location.

I have never been so disappointed in a health club as I am with the Lucille Roberts in Forest Hills. Save yourself the aggravation of dealing with the miscommunication that goes on at this gym. There are many other gyms that actually care about their customers. I joined the club this past summer with my daughter. I hired a trainer there and specifically told them it was for the summer since we would have busy schedules once school started in the fall. To make a long story short, I did what I was informed I needed to do to cancel the training sessions but was charged two more times after that for training sessions that I did not sign up for. Not only did they charge me for more sessions but they did not even offer the sessions to me. So I’ve been charged for training sessions I did not even have. Now I have to take time to go take care of this because I haven’t even gotten a phone call back like I was promised. So disgusted.

I don’t recommend this gym at all, when I went to get my membership, the people from the front desk were very nice to me and I really liked the service and I thought everything was clear for me. I had to cancel my membership and I knew that when you cancel it, it takes 45 days so I went October 16th and then I thought that it was going to be canceled in November 30th so I didn’t have to pay one more month because I’m not going to the gym and I’m paying every month. When I got to the gym and said that I have to cancel, the woman in the front desk was very very rude and judging me because she said that I don’t have time for myself even when she didn’t know my cancellation reason, anyway she said that I have to wait until the manager call and then start counting the 45 days. Now it’s October 21th and I still don’t receive the manager call. I think that they play with your money and with your time. If you want to get its membership, keep in mind what happened to me because when they explain you about the gym everything sounds good and when you’re going to cancel it’s not. In conclusion bad service, bad communication. It was in forest hills.

The worst gym, do not go there. First they tell you a rate and after a month they change it to the high rate of the month after they charge you the membership of the year. I have canceled my bill after four months for personal reasons and they are charging me $ 80 just to cancel! Do not go to that place is the worst gym. Actually I'm paying more money !! Omg this is amazing ! Please take the advice and don't go to that terrible gym !

The best thing about women's gyms is that you avoid the posturing that sometimes happens at co-ed gyms. Clean, air conditioned, but not nearly enough bathrooms. Also, if there are personal trainers they don't push them hard enough. Been going for months and keep forgetting to ask. Most gyms let you know right away and the trainers hustle a little for customers.

For the membership fee that this gym charges there should be better accommodations. The fitness instructors are mediocre compared to the instructors that they had 10 years ago. I cancelled my membership recently and found a better place to workout.

Lucille Roberts has been the worst business experience I've had in my 46 years. Yes the facilities are decent but when I moved from the area 8months ago they have made it impossible to cancel. I've advised numerous times via phone and email I am unable to come into the gym to cancel which they do not explain at the time when you sign up. What I'm failing to understand is how the same email you can contact me on to ask about a payment is not good enough to cancel my account. They clearly know it's me they are talking to then. The staff is also very unhelpful and borderline rude.

Lucille Roberts is THE perfect gym for you if the following applies to you:
-you appreciate being taken advantage of and falling into the trap of corporate greed
-you like ambiguous contract terms
-you are fine with unannounced, increased membership charges
-you enjoy working out in the sweltering summer heat with no AC to a point where it can be a health hazard. The management keeps saying they’ll fix it yet there hasn’t been AC for the LAST THREE SUMMERS.
-you call to confirm that the scheduled classes will be taking place with the correct instructor, yet you arrive to the class and the teacher doesn’t show up, and instead there’s a substitute that no one likes and everyone walks out of the class
-you like not having soap to wash your hands with after using the bathroom or after a sweaty class
-you love listening to the same repetitive playlist with the same songs over and over again
Take your money and go somewhere else. Trust me. They seem all nice and sweet but they’ll screw you once they get you

I started going to this gym around 2 years ago because it was close to my job and the late hours were available, also because the membership cost was reasonable, after a couple months not being able to go to the gym and paying my membership for nothing I decided to cancel it for a while since my work and school schedule changed. I went in person to cancel the membership and paid the cancellation fee.. just to find the next day that they charged my debit card $200 for cancelling. Mistakes happen so I called the bank and told them it was probably a mistake from.. the bank said I should speak to the gym staff to refund my card, I called the gym several times and no one was able to help me, they had mi file mixed up with someone else’s so when I called asking for help about my cancellation fee payment they couldn’t even find the records. I ended up going trough some fraud process with the bank and they gave me back the money and I changed my card number.
3 or 4 months later my mom was looking for a local gym and I took her to Lucille Roberts, overall it was a great gym and I thought what happened with my card was just some miscommunication or organization issue, so I referred my mom to the gym and got a new membership myself.
Around October last year I found my self in the same situation, I switched jobs and I wasn’t able to go to Lucille Roberts in forest hills anymore so I cancelled the membership. In December they told my mom she had a $140 balance on her account from my membership, because “we had a combined family account” so the “balance from my account” was transferred to her.
Unbelievable.. I went to the gym and spoke to the manager who gave me some absurd explanation about me not cancelling on time and the next month was due because of that.. I ended up paying them $139.96 which was the “balance” on my account so it wouldn’t affect my mom’s membership and that was supposed to be the end of the story never going back to them.. but NO.
They have been sending text messages and emails over and over aging since December, 3 or 4 times a month, about another balance on my account??? I call them every single time they send me a text message and speak to some staff member who apologizes and says they will remove it from my account and that they won’t contact me again. BUT THEY KEEP DOING IT, it’s May now.
Now I’m being harassed by this people that can’t even get one account right.. I’m definitely opening a complaint about this at the department of consumer affairs, I really tried to speak to them directly but this seems the only way to communicate with them so they get the message.
It’s incredible how organization issues and pour client management can really ruin someone’s gym experience.

I have two daughters on this gym and they give you the guest passes. My daughter took a family member as a guest and she was told from the manager that our family member could not go in there because she was not a resident but although she had to pay a $30 monthly membership. What kind of policy is these to discriminate people like this. A guest pass is a guest that come with the family to see how the gym is all about and accompany the person who is a member. I would not refer this gym to anyone anymore

I like this gym - I was a member many moons ago and joined again in February on a quest to get In shape , loose weight and get strong and healthy . I haven’t worked out fro eight years and I didn’t know where to begin . Quickly after I started the gym I took PRx90 class with instructor Ovidio Obie bravo and it has change my life and the way I look. He motivational skills stay with you even when you aren’t in class but his class is just as good if not better then classes offered at orange theory , etc . I love this his classes and don’t miss them ever . Best trainer I’ve ever came across !!! The very best .
