This review is long overdue! I’ve been a regular at Lula for the past two years, and it’s truly one of my favorite places in the neighborhood. I first started going for support and rehabilitation after a foot injury, working directly with Tara. She—and honestly all of the instructors—are incredibly knowledgeable. I’ve gained so much awareness of my body through my time with each of them.
More recently, I did some prenatal 1:1 sessions with Ilana, and now I’m easing back into things postpartum. The Lula team has been so supportive in helping me rebuild strength and confidence as I heal and get back into my routine. Beyond recovery, their classes are also amazing as a regular daily workout—I always leave feeling stronger, more grounded, and more connected to my body.

A true neighborhood gem for pilates! Lula Body is a real treasure. Tara makes the studio so warm and inviting, and Kaitlin is fantastic — whether in private sessions or classes, she gives such great attention and makes every workout motivating. I always leave feeling stronger and better.- Judah :)

Five stars for Lula Body's gorgeous studio space, and for Tara the owner, pilates instructor and masseuse. She doesn’t just guide you through pilates -- she understands the body as something layered, mechanical, and deeply individual. She approaches the physical in constant negotiation with the mind, reminding you, through movement and precision, that the body's organization is not just anatomical but also philosophical. I left the bright, warm studio aware of my habits and my possibilities. This resource right here in Crown Heights is a real community gem. I’ll be back -- sure, for the abs -- but also for the mind/body integration. Thank you, Tara. 💙

I had the pleasure of taking classes with Kaitlin and it was the best thing I could've done. I told her that I was not familiar with Pilates and she immediately knew how to understand and guide me perfectly. She adapted to my level and motivated me at all times. Thanks to her I discovered pilates and now it is something that has changed my life.

I had the luck of being taught by Kaitlin N. And I LOVED it. She knew everything about the body and how it functioned, it was so helpful to have that insight. Also by being a dancer, she understands soooo much more about how the body moves and the technique of it which has been eye opening for me. I will definitely come back to her class!

I wish I could give Lula Body 10 stars. Tara and this studio have completely changed my life. I have many issues with my body that always made it hard for me to work out and be active in general. Tara has completely reframed how I utilize and understand my body. She is an absolute gift and I feel so grateful to have found this hidden gem in crown heights. If you’re not sure about trying Pilates, go here and start with Tara’s class (although honestly everyone is great - you’re in good hands no matter who you see. Everyone handpicked by Tara and so sweet and good at what they do). You will not regret trying it I promise. Also SUPER affordable prices. The first time customer deal is crazy. There’s no reason not to try. 11/10

I almost don’t want to leave a review in fear that the classes will fill up but I’ve been joining classes routinely with Ilana, Marion and Tara and it’s been amazing.
Clean, spacious and airy studio.
All instructors are understanding and encouraging, they don’t push you to do things you’re not comfortable with but suggests alternative methods so you can follow along, even in a group setting.

I took my first ever Pilates class last week at Lula Body. I had Kay who was fantastic. She was born informative & encouraging, with the right amount of challenge and care. I recommend Lula Body to anyone who wants to develop strength & poise for sports or daily life. Tara the owner has great energy and can recommend the class that's right for you. Bravo!

I have been researching Pilates for about 2 years after my chiropractor recommended it for my lower back pain and core. I felt intimidated by it and had a little anxiety about trying it.
But yesterday I pushed myself to sign up and attend Tara's class, and I'm SO glad I did. I didn't know what to expect outside of articles I read and videos I watched. But as I walked into her studio I felt a welcoming vibe.
The studio is beautiful and clean. It's fully equipped and looks intimidating if you're not familiar with the tools/equipment but Tara walks you through eveything. Her knowledge is incredible.
After one class with her I am committed to building these classes into my calendar for my overall health.
I especially appreciate Tara's warmth and attentiveness. She is hands on and provides clarity when you don't understand something. Tara really possesses all the qualities that make someone a great teacher.
I am SO glad I stepped outside of my comfort zone. That's where growth happens. I look forward to learning and growing in the days ahead. Especially getting my core and alignment corrected.

I’m almost reluctant to leave a review because I don’t want the classes to fill up, but I have only positive things to say about Lula Body, and especially the instructor Diana. I have been going every weekend the last few months and feel stronger. I’d also like to go during the week. (To the owners, please start offering 7pm classes!! 😊)
But literally after two classes, Diana knew my name, is encouraging and thoughtful, and switches up the exercises so it’s always a bit different.
If you’re looking for a neighborhood Pilates spot- this is it.

A friend of mine suggested Pilates for an old knee injury that I sustained from running. I saw the great reviews online for Lula Body and decided to give it a try. I’ve been at it for a few months now and I’m starting to see ease in my body movements, a significant reduction of knee pain, and improvements in my posture. Tara is masterful in her understanding of the body. I highly recommend her studio if you’re seeking to physically realign and improve your overall health. Other reviewers have stated that their experience with Pilates has been hard work, but well worth the life changing effects. I would agree.

The care and attention you receive at Lula Body is unmatched. Tara and all the instructors take the time to get to know you and your body and work with you to improve your form, heal existing injuries and avoid future injuries. In the last year, Pilates has become my new favorite Wednesday tradition. Ilana made that happen! She’s funny, easy to talk to, caring and a great instructor. She’s taught me so much like how to do a real push up, which has improved my practice in yoga. As a former soccer player, it’s been really interesting to train my body in a completely different way as well. Ilana challenges me to explore my strength and learn how to connect with my body to maximize each exercise. So glad I found this local studio!

I recently started pilates and honestly idk how I lived without it! I usually only would do HIIT and weight training but Ilana springboard classes really challenges you to fix your posture, work on using those tiny muscles, and learn to use your core more actively + her calm, but fun demeanor makes it something to look forward too! Love going to Lula Body!

Started taking classes here a few months ago and absolutely love it. Great atmosphere and equipment. I've taken other pilates classes at other places but love how Lula Body focuses on form and technique. Ilana in particular is so great at explaining how various muscles effect each other and work together, while providing a fun and supportive atmosphere. Can't recommend this place, or Ilana, enough!

Lula Body is AMAZING!!!! Tara and her coaches are sooooooo life changing! i had an invasive spinal surgery and was searching for someone to help me learn how to properly move my body and Tara and her team know there stuff!
They are knowledgeable about the entire body and can help you learn to move in a healthy and thoughtful way. They care about the longevity of your movement and who doesn’t want to be mobile long into their life??
If you are looking for a studio where you can feel safe that your body is being well taken care of this is the one!

I came to Lula Body in January 2020 after living at least 10 years with chronic shoulder pain that had evolved into full-on frozen shoulder. PT didn't help - after 8 sessions, it felt like the issue was getting worse. I crowd-sourced for help on a local FB group and several people pointed me to Tara. I'm happy to say, I've never felt more physically fit, strong, or flexible in my entire life. My energy has sky-rocketed. I'm without pain for the first time in decades. I am leaner and my clothes fit better. Tara's approach is pilates-based bodywork. We do a blend of more energetic exercises, focused muscle activation, and tissue work. Every one of her clients has a customized plan, I'm sure; mine is focused on undoing the movement patterns that led to the frozen shoulder. I've been seeing her weekly, in the early days of COVID we switched to Zoom sessions. It's an investment in time because change is slow, and I acknowledge there is an added cost to private sessions, but I'm so pleased with my results, that I feel it's completely worth it. I know with what I'm learning from her that I'll go into my elder years (which are still very far away!) physically fit and able to withstand some of the effects of time. She's changed my life.

Working with Tara has been revelatory not only to my understanding of my body but more excitingly to the results I am getting in my time working with her and what I do on my own. I’m learning how to correct imbalances in strength and flexibility that have long bothered me and in some cases caused pain. I’m finally seeing my troubled hips open up and slim down. My over used muscles are gaining pliability and slimming down while I’m finally accessing core muscles for a tighter belly and stronger back. I’ve always been active and athletic and thought I had a very good understanding of my own body and it’s strengths and challenges. That all changed in the first minutes of working with Tara. I now have a deeper understanding of how bodies work in general and how mine functions specifically. I’ve worked with a lot of body workers and can’t recommend Tara enough if you want to bring greater harmony to your body and also get the results you need.

As a longtime runner and video Pilates student, I felt I was in shape. However, I was in constant pain. My right hip and achilles tendon were always tender, despite constant stretching. After several sports therapist visits, acupuncture, massage, hip specialist and ceasing exercise entirely, I could not relieve the pain. At some point, it was suggested that I try Pilates and I remembered an acquaintance that had recently opened a Pilates studio in Crown Heights – Lula Body Pilates. Upon our first meeting, Tara began to pick apart my exercise practice in a way that I’d never thought of before. She helped me to understand how I was using part of my body, but not all, in my daily exercise. It was through her instruction, that I began to strengthen all of my muscles so that they worked as a group and not independent of one another. The equipment has been instrumental in allowing me to actually pinpoint precise problem areas of misfiring which I can now take into account in my regular exercise routine as well as in my daily actiivities. With Tara’s help at Lula Body Pilates, I’ve been able to augment my exercise in a way that still keeps me in top shape but without the pain! I am currently enjoying working with her virtually both privately and in her group class format. I can’t speak more highly about my experience. My hip honestly, hasn’t felt this good in years. Understanding the engagement of the deeper stabilizers (Tara explained this!) has been key. I highly recommend Lula Body Pilates.

The perfect first class!
My first Pilates class ever and the instructor Tara was great at making me and my friend who also attended feel super-comfortable. Very encouraging, nurturing and attentive.
She created a relaxed, low-pressure atmosphere. As we were being guided through challenging movements we were instructed on which specific muscles groups to engage. I felt at ease the entire time.
I've been really concerned and intimidated about strengthening my core, but that all melted away. I am open to challenging myself further and definitely returning to this class.
The studio has a well-lit and clean open layout. It's really well curated to be an urban oasis with good zen vibes. We came at night, so I can only imagine the place being flooded with natural light earlier in the day.
So grateful for such a gentle, patient and wonderful instructor. I can't wait to return!

I have worked with Tara once a week for over 3 years and she is amazing! Her knowledge of the human body and dedication to continuing her own education make her the most unique and well educated person I have ever worked out with. Her sessions are challenging and thoughtful. She isn't afraid to veer off course to help correct a movement she feels needs to be adjusted. Unlike other instructors who just want to get you through a set of exercises with minimal adjustment, Tara will walk you through the movement and philosophy behind it until it clicks. All I can say is she has changed my life immensely! Her voice is now in the back of my head whenever I do anything active - even just walking. Oh, and she's a lovely person. I couldn't be more grateful to her.

I've been taking Pilates lessons with Tara for several months, and I couldn't have found a better teacher at a better time! As someone with chronic back and posture issues related to a past lower lumbar injury, I have been so impressed with Tara's sensitivity and interest in cultivating strength, more ease and less pain in my daily life. She is challenging but not pushy; she makes sure to check in and tailors each workout to how I'm feeling that day. I feel stronger after each session, and educated on new exercises and ways I can work on my alignment and posture outside of workouts. Tara brings incredible knowledge to the sessions as well as a great sense of humor; I'm always eager to come back! I can't recommend Tara highly enough!!

Sessions at Lula Body's Crown Heights Pilates studio are "challaxing"--the perfect combination of challenging and relaxing. At the end of every workout, I feel stronger, taller and clear-headed. Tara has an amazing ability to explain in words and by demonstration the nuances of each exercise during our private sessions, and encouragingly reminds me to contract my core even after the hundredth time my ribs flare out. She is non-judgmental and fun and if I ever hit lotto, daily sessions at Lula Body are high on my bucket list.
