I’ve been a member at Matrix Fitness Club Astoria since the COVID period, and it has remained a clean, comfortable, and dependable gym to train in. The space is well-kept, the equipment is updated regularly, and it’s clear the gym continues to invest in improving the experience for members.
I used to rely on the same routine workouts without much purpose or variety. Starting personal training with Jose at Matrix changed that completely. He introduced a more intentional style of training that includes strength work, plyometrics, and endurance conditioning to support both my performance as a soccer player and my long hours as a nurse. He also helped identify hip flexion and strength imbalances that contributed to my lower back and knee pain. Since addressing them, I’ve noticed a huge decrease in discomfort and feel more balanced and strong in my movement.
Matrix has been my long-term fitness home, and training there has genuinely improved how I feel and perform day to day.

I’m a member for several months it’s ok not to packed but what I saw this week with the receptionist and how did they did the poor Lady because of her Race I Felt so bad for her all I hear The receptionist telling her to get out You don’t belong here and there was another client trying to jump her That was sent by the receptionist and they even called the police for no reason Just to make the lady look bad and when I was listening to their conversation and he was telling her go fix yourself look how you look . That’s not nice to say to a lady no respect shame on you upon the waiver, I do not understand how you gave her a membership if she did not sign a waiver that does not make sense that means the receptionist did not do his work right I think the manager or the owner should go over this and try to fix it and help the poor lady because I even saw the officer how they were yelling at the receptionist

So said to see people like this in nyc I had joined the gym 10 days ago until today I went to the gym and all of a sudden the staff Zhain called me to come to the Front desk and when I went, he said I’m not allowed in the gym I ask why he said look at the way you are you gotta change So I replied and said what than I was going back and forth with him than he said get out I said I’m going to do my work out I have A membership you can’t Kick me out so he send one off their client Recorded me and harassed me saying you’re not allowed here than they called 911 I said I never signed the waiver I said they never told me or send me the waiver I don’t mind signing it and how to you gave me the membership for 10 days with Henry signing the waiver I don’t not understand

I've been going to this gym for a few months now, and overall, it's been a great experience. The equipment is modern and well-maintained, with plenty of machines and free weights available. Matrix fitness gym is a very low key, good vibe gym. It has a lot of equipment and is never packed with people, so waiting for an equipment will never be an issue. Its use super clean and the people are mind in putting back their weights which as a person who trains it’s very much appreciated. They have a sauna, shower and lockers for people who need to clean up right after working out so you are able to go to work after or out to eat; what it is you have planned. Worth the month fee.

Joining Matrix Fitness Club has been such a relief. After all the issues we dealt with at Vibe BQE, this place feels like a total upgrade. It’s calm, clean, and actually feels like a gym — not a social media studio. No one’s yelling across the room or filming TikToks in the mirror while you’re just trying to work out.

The energy here is so much more positive and focused. Everyone respects the space, and it’s clear the staff actually care about running things the right way. I’m really glad we made the switch. Great sized gym....good variety of equipment and weights. Machines are always kept in good working order. Gym is kept clean. There is a sauna in the men's and women's locker/bathrooms. Staff there are great.

My biggest beef however is with the self-centered members who are needlessly tying up machines because they are playing with their phones. It is beyond irritating, that the staff allow this. There should be a blanket policy of 'no phones allowed outside of the locker rooms. PERIOD.'

And don't bother trying to say something to anyone who's on their phone...even something subtle/polite, such as 'whenever you're done, can I use this machine next?', as you will typically be met with a defensive response such as 'oh, I have two more sets to go' (even though, in fact, they were probably done with their sets, but were glued to their phone...and now that you said something to them, they're going to do even MORE sets, just to make a point).

The level of selfishness of some people, is unbelievable. Heck, I've even noticed some people 'reserving' machines, putting their jacket, bag etc. on or next to a machine, while they are elsewhere. And don't even THINK about 'moving their stuff', or getting on 'their' machine, as they won't be happy about it.

Wow. People have become so utterly selfish.

And...Matrix should not insult me or any other patrons by suggesting they weren't previously aware of this issue, or that they will 'take my compaint under consideration'. It's clear they have sinply decided not to have or enforce any policy regarding fones put on the floor, as it might alienate certain of their fone-addicted clientele.

One more thing...a big shout out to their cleaning guy. It's 100% clear that he takes his job very seriously...he's not just 'trying to look busy' or give machines rudimentary wipe downs. He's very diligent...all the time. It's rare, now, to see a person who takes pride in their work...reminds me of Japan, where no matter a person's job, they do it at the highest level...

Sketchy management.
I signed a lease last January, went there once and missed the deadline to cancel. I paid almost $500.00 to.go once! I moved from Astoria to Washington, the manager Ezra wrote me to submit utility bill and i did and he keeps acting like a Divo telling me there is nothing he can do except charging me $468 to cancel.

I’ve been a member here for a year and have waited on posting a review to give the place a fair chance.
I live a few blocks from here and will say this is the best gym available in the Ditmars area at a reasonable price point. The variety of equipment they have, the amount of space and the sauna are all fantastic. The staff are also very friendly and welcoming. It’s a good vibe.
There are a few things I think they should do better:
1) keep better tabs on the equipment and try to keep the machines working. I come here three or four times a week and on any given day they’re at least two or three treadmills out of Order. Some of them have signs on them, but some of them don’t it’s annoying. I start my run and then two minutes in the treadmill automatically shuts off.
2) upgrade the products in the bathrooms… The hand soap and shampoo literally smell like all purpose cleaning solution used to clean the gym equipment.
3) some more resistance bands and functional strength equipment would be great out in the turf area.

Overall satisfied and will keep coming so long as I live in the area. Just hoping management can make some light touch / low cost improvement to keep loyal members happy 🙂

Very sad to be leaving Matrix after just over a year, I really loved my time there. Everyone I talked with was so nice, both staff and members. I didn't do any personal training but had several top notch massages. I know the yoga teacher from another location and he's great as well.

Equipment is clean and up to date and they're always getting new stuff. Shoutout pendulum squat! Thing is gnarly. One extra squat rack would be ideal, and maybe a rack that holds barbells. Locker room is nice but it would be cool if they could add like a scent diffuser or something.

Great gym! Super convenient if you are in the neighborhood. It’s a HUGE space with all the equipment you are looking for. If you’re not looking for a membership, they do $26 day passes which is a steal!

I was a member of matrix fitness club for about 2/3 years. At first it was amazing, the staff was very friendly and the gym was clean. Than all of the sudden machines were oils fill up the time of my workout routine. I ended up purchasing a personal training package to help with learning other machines but they never discussed it was with a group not one on one nor how much it was. Turns out it was 3 months the same amount not once. If I known I would have picked a different package. Towards middle of my package I found out I was pregnant and experiencing heavy morning sickness. I disappeared from the gym for about 4 months and they never called me to see what happened or if I wanted to pause my account. I guess that’s fault on me but when I tried to freeze my account at 7 months being my pregnancy was high risk no answer until I responded to at least 10 marketing messages just for them to reach their monthly quota. Moving forward I decided to give them another try but after my baby was born I couldn’t balance gym, mom life, and full time employment. I just move over an hour away in DECEMBER, I tried to email, call, any source of communication to cancel my membership but until I cancelled my card is when I finally got a response. They still want to charge me for January and February before putting my cancellation request in which I would be charged for March as well again to reach they quota. This gym is just a factory. I will never get any money back from my personal training classes and now because they are so difficult to find their manager I am still paying a membership… beware terrible

Matrix gym is one of the best gym I never been too. They have a lot of options for equipment and plenty of free classes to attend. Staff members are great and very supportive I would recommend 5 stars.

Definitely I would recommend it, my sister brought me here with my brother in law for the first time and I stayed because of all the benefits that the subscription brings, yoga and cycling class were my favorite! If you are looking for a gym with diversity in activities, a lot of space to train and exercised with the right equipment and also kind staff, this is THE place.

Extremely attentive and friendly staff. Irv is an amazing manager and he will pay a lot of attention to all of your needs and concerns. Great group of people to workout with - from newcomers to tenured gym-goers. Very clean facility with a wide range of equipment and weights. They have a very clean sauna too where you can decompress after you work out.

update: The original post remains true, "Friendly and helpful staff. Facilities are clean and rarely need to wait for a machine," however, the gym is underground so it is lit by fluorescents and depending on your sensitivity may make the experience less that ideal. Also they won't let you cancel on the phone, you need to go in or email. If the space felt more welcoming and lit accordingly I'd consider going back

I love this gym. I go daily and it's probably the best gym value in Astoria. It would be 5 stars if the members wiped their equipment down and put the plates/equipment back after using it. I'd estimate 60% of members don't wipe down after use. It's gross. I don't need to be asking you to do this, I have a job, but I now have to make people do the bare minimum.

Also, gym bros doing super sets or just hogging multiple pieces of equipment for 20-40 mins at a time. You're not the Rock, we all have to share. Do it when it's dead or don't do it at all. Again, like cleaning/ wiping, this comes down to gym staff monitoring.

Honestly, I need something low key in my gyms so this place is perfect. It’s low light, low traffic. Can really zone out and get what you need to get done. It’s pricey but it’s a private gym so that’s expected. But it’s close to home so that’s a win for me. My preferred Astoria gym.

Could tell right away that the gym was clean and chill. Irv got me signed up and was very helpful. The gym is spacious and isn’t crowded. There is plenty of equipment. Has great options for classes in the morning or evening and that is included in your membership. Would recommend to anyone!

After extensive research, I landed on Matrix Fitness. I’m pretty impressed on how chill the vibes are the moment you walk in. I personally am not a fan of generic gyms due to unpleasant experiences. I can confidently say that Matrix fitness isn’t one of those places. Very clean and spacious— not too crowded which is a bonus. There are classes available included in your membership which is pretty cool! Def recommend if you’re looking for a new gym.
