They charge bi-weekly on a Monday. This past September I got charged 3 times 😩. Love the hot tub 💕Also, I need to use the elevator for personal reasons (ab sx, etc) in pk and they always give me a hard time but how can they judge someone just by looking at them if they can or can’t use the elevator? Also an annual fee.

The hours are terrible. What gym closes at 4 pm on the weekends? And 8pm on weekdays? So weird… basically the first 2 top floors are a waste of space. The x-force machines are so terrible. The new dumbbell rack in front is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen and they got nice new benches for that but not downstairs for the people who actually lift. Major waste of space. The turf room is practically empty. All the machines that have the blue padding are the worst machines I’ve ever used. The heavier dumbbells are on a completely different floor than the lighter ones. The little massage chairs are an extra monthly fee. Extra fee for the neck and back machines. Not a protein bar in sight. Whoever is in charge of how things are arranged here needs to be fired. I wish I could buy this gym so it could live up to its potential

Decent facilities, poorly managed.
After moving and not being able to use membership (more than 6 weeks) I called and asked to cancel. They insisted I needed to come in to do so, so at my first opportunity (see 'I moved') I went up there to cancel. I was told that 'we bill in advance, so we are going to charge you for the next week' (actually 10 days). When I objected to being charged for a membership that I cannot use, because I MOVED, and despite numerous conversations and calls to 'managers' (I use that word very lightly here) they refused any kind of accommodation. I'm not even sure this 'policy' is completely LEGAL in New York, but I have a complaint in to the consumer fraud department of the state to find out.
At any rate, stay VERY far away from this organization, they are cheats and frauds, and have ZERO respect for their customers.

Overall I enjoy going to this gym. It has all the amenities I’m looking for. The downfall is there HOURS ARE HORRIBLE making it difficult to get there. I wish they opened at 5am so people can go before work! Now they shortened the hours even more closing at 7pm on Fridays. The pool and sauna hours are also different than their regular scheduled hours. BANKER HOURS!!!

Just switched to this gym a month ago & loving it! Friendly staff, super clean, & organized. New machines and a large variety of machines. I love the energy here and it keeps me motivated to come to the gym. Even when it’s busy it doesn’t usually slow my workout down which was my main issue at my last gym. Haven’t tried the pool area or sauna yet but I’m excited to have the option!! Only downfall is the hours are a bit inconvenient. Wish they opened earlier/closed later but hopefully with enough demand the hours can be adjusted. Thank you for providing a high quality gym to this area! It’s nice to find a gym that obviously reinvests back into it and continues to add new equipment and properly maintain the equipment as well

The gym is amazing!! The only problem I have with the place. Is that new dumbbell rack. It’s just nonsense. It’s difficult to get dumbbells off the rack. It even put a bruise on my arm trying to get 65 pound dumbbells off the rack. It’s not a good system. What’s wrong with a normal rack?? I honestly think you should have put a new 8 station cable machine there & a normal dumbbell rack. Then it would be 8000\5 stars. Couple of my friends even said it’s hard to get the dumbbell out of the new dumbbell rack. It’s silly & I won’t be using it anymore.

I attended Mike Ortega‘s health and fitness center in hopes of acquiring a monthly membership. I obtained a guest pass for the day to check out the facilities. During this time I witnessed a hostile incident between and already existing member and a staff member by the name of Janet. She was not friendly, nor was she professional. The Staff proceeded to get the owner that was near, and the owner insisted on calling the police, because somebody was walking backwards on a treadmill. I’ve heard a lot about this gym targeting a specific older age group for their clients. The whole situation felt very discriminatory to me, And it’s very unfortunate that the owner did not resolve the issue, or do anything to make the situation better. The staff at Mike Arteagas and the owner were not “caring and they were not ready to help“ nor “Did I get the feeling that they really cared about health and fitness goals“ as said in their mission statement after witnessing this interaction. Everybody knows that walking backwards on a treadmill improves balance, helps knee joints, and strengthens the supporting muscle. There were no signs that indicated that this was against the rules and regulations of the gym and to use your power of authority to make rules on the whim for something so absurd that you threaten to cancel someone’s membership and call the police is something that I’ve never heard of. I will not be obtaining a membership at this gym. And I hope this review helps who it needs to, to determine whether or not they should spend their hard earned money at a facility that treats their members this way. There are much better gyms in the area that make you feel welcomed & respected. Save yourself the time, and the money!

So there are some good things, and some bad things about Mike Arteagas. I was a member for a year and ultimately decided to unsubscribe because hell is other people.
The Good:
The equipment and facilities are the best in the area, at least on paper. Newish machines, lots of different areas, a pool, a field house, personal training, etc. It doesn't compare to a top notch gym in the city, but it's the best facilities for the area. With that said...
The Bad:
The staff and the members.
The "official" rules of the pool are that you are allowed to reserve a half hour time slot. If you're not known to Arteaga's staff and members, they will enforce this zealously.
However, some of the members, who seem to have been coming for years, will take up to two hours in a swim lane, and get grumpy if you ask them to leave (despite the fact that you have a reservation).
I complained multiple times only to hear "Oh, well Tom likes to swim at least an hour." That's great, I'd like to swim an hour, how can I reserve? "Oh well you can't reserve an hour." Ummmm. So what makes Tom special and why does he get my swim lane during my reservation?
Also, the two hours is not exaggeration. One woman who was extremely grumpy about getting asked to leave a reserved lane was swimming when I came in for a workout, swimming an hour later when I was in the sauna, and still swimming when I tried to get my reserved time.
There's also weird rules that may or may not get enforced. Like bring in a kickboard to isolate your leg stroke and focus on improvement? They may or may not tell you you're not allowed to have it. It's just whoever is on duty.
Lastly, a lot of ignorant folks go here. You can walk in the sauna and have somebody blasting their music. Or a couple old dudes talking about how the immigrants are ruining the country.
It's a shame because the facilities are nice, but it's such a pain dealing with all the drama, I couldn't justify it long term.

Best gym and equipment in the area. The force machines are amazing, and the cold plunge and sauna is most of the reason I am a member. It’s a shame that the gym opens too late to be convenient and the pool opens/ closes too early. If you have a 9-5 or any job requiring similar hours it’s nearly impossible to get a good ice bath/sauna session, especially if you want to do a workout first

I just started going here roughly a month. I used to be a member at All Sports when I lived in Hopewell Junction. Great place so far. Plenty of machines, unique Xforce machines which focus on the negative muscle tension. They have a sauna and 1 internal pool. There is a movie theater for bike exercise and they do have a room called a posing room (I have never seen that before). They have a stretching section which is unique and upstairs their is an aerobic room. They are under construction now so look forward to what it will look like. I like that they make joining very easy. Do it online and you are done. The price is good as well. They have a special section for those with back pain. There is more than what I am just noticing as well. I am more of a wifit and cardio person and they have sections for those with ample space and equipment.
I would like to see a smoothie bar with healthy foods, a steam room and some activities for kids but nothing that deters me from going.

As an avid athlete, I have been to quite a few gyms. While Mike’s is a nice facility with great equipment, it simply does not set a high bar when it comes to attention to detail, customer service, and hourly operations.
First: The biggest complaint I hear about everyday from multiple people is the sauna’s hours. The gym “allegedly,” opens at 6 but the sauna opens at 730. I brought this to the attention of a supervisor with the goal of giving a suggestion that many people would benefit from. She blew me off, didn’t write it down and said, “this is such an easy suggestion that I don’t need to write it down.” My suggestion to her is, then don’t walk over with pen and paper because now you look like a jerk.
Second; This gym has beautiful amenities and equipment, but the staff doesn’t seem to have any care about keeping it organized in the least bit. Don’t get me wrong, some of them are great and hard working but 30% of the staff can’t pick up the slack of the other 70%. As far as a gym goes, this gym is one of, if not, the most unorganized and disheveled I have been to.
Last but not least: Every single morning the staff opens the doors at least 2 minutes late. This is just unproductive and unprofessional. Your hours are already some of the least competitive around. The only reason I am here is because it seems like a decent option with a sauna and cold plunge, very close to home. Now you aren’t opening your doors at 6 am but 6:02 or 6:03. These small things are what tells me that the staff here really doesn’t seem to give a damn. Their main priority appears to be doing the bare minimum to get paid and go home. What they don’t understand is that they work in customer service.
Overall; nice gym with some mediocre staff and bad vibes.
I’ll be checking out Gold’s this week. From what I hear they have a sauna that opens when their doors open and not 90 mins after. Furthermore, they have good vibes.

Excellent exercise facility with an extensive amount of equipment and the space to hold all of it. Staff is both friendly and helpful. A feature never seen in any other gym, a certified trainer available to help you with any equipment on the machines level. The pool is very popular but not my thing. Cardio equipment is extensive and ALL equipment is well maintained. Lots of classes; and I keep meaning to get back to yoga. All this and more included in the low membership fee. Oh! If you have neck or back issues, check out the very beneficial programs available to help alleviate the problem. This facility is a total winner in my book!

I'm liking the gym so far. Usually lots of equipment open. The weight room is almost always empty. And there's plenty of machines to go around. It can be hard to find the machine you need since there's so many. I have yet to find the hip thrust machine, I couldn't find it but that doesn't mean it isn't there.
Found it, but there's only one. There's only one of most machines so the popular ones are always being used. I wish they kept it colder in there. It's way way too hot. I sweat all day at work in the heat, I don't want heat in the gym.
But my biggest gripe is the elliptical machines. They're awful. They don't have any that have the poles you swing with your arms so to me that's not an elliptical. It's supposed to be like skiing, if only my feet are moving I'm not losing a lot of calories I could be burning. I've tried to get used to them but I can't. I hate them.
The upgrades are nice. I'd love a glute focused area in the gym. Now there's 2 stretching zones and I'm really at a loss figuring out why that's necessary. They opened a great new room downstairs but it's mostly empty with a couple stretching things.

I only went a couple times so far and everything seems nice, and they're doing some remodeling in the front entrance. The only thing I was disappointed about was the pool only had 3 swimming lanes, and nowhere to just hangout in the pool. Lastly, if you're handicapped, this seems really tough to get around everywhere (I didn't notice elevators (theres an upstairs and downstairs).

There is this one life guard who has no customer service skills. She’s the oldest one there, works the morning hours. She’s heavyset and wears glasses. I always respect the 15 minute hot tub rule. When it’s time, I sit on the edge of the tub and dangle my feet in there. Apparently that’s not good enough for her. She tells me I have to be all the way out and that I can’t be near it.
When that wasn’t good enough for her she tattletales on me. She is a complete hypocrite because you’ve got all these other members who stay past 15 min in the sauna but never says anything to them. All the other life guards have no problem with me taking my hot tub breaks with my feet dangling in there. She has serious customer issues and I don’t think the spa area is right for her to work in.

As I approach my three year membership anniversary I’m proud to say my experience at Mike’s has consistently been above average. Mike’s atmosphere has contributed to the success of my fitness journey; it’s cleanliness, quality and equipment is top 3 in dutchess. As a local business owner this facility provides me the safe environment, mature crowd, and overall quality standard I desire in a wellness center. As of late the facility has been undergoing structural improvements which is exciting but I never quite understood why businesses invest in such significant changes without considering their consumers. Had “We” the consumers have been surveyed we would’ve definitely voted on the expansion of the sauna over instillation of hydro massage beds. The sauna is approximately 200sqft. Usually containing 8+ persons making it seldom to enjoy a decent sweat session.

Most of the TVs do not work, half of the machines are from the 80s-90s, the womens locker room doesn’t have a TV like the men’s (explicit sexism). The gym goers mostly consist of old creepy men trying to make eye contact, conversations, and have been harassed on my way out in the parking lot before. There’s a lot of potential here, but things need change. The cardio theater would be cool if they put on a different movie every day. I can’t watch super troopers 3-4 days in a row. Get some newer movies. No one wants to walk to a war movie from 1990. You can’t drink anything but clear water in here- no preworkout etc. i have to say my full name to sign into the gym and need to spell it out, so not a safe procedure. There are always children coming from the pool and completely old naked ladies in the locker room with no sense of gym decorum. You can’t use the class room space for hiit or anything when there aren’t classes. Management needs to make proper updates.

Facilities and equipment are good, staff and rules are intolerable. I felt like I was in grade school with all the ridiculous rules, the staff are tyrants and gossipy. They pretend to be friendly but it's fake. I always felt uncomfortable at the gym due to the staff. I eventually stopped coming due to the staff. The wonderful equipment was just not worth the most expensive gym membership I ever paid because the staff made me feel unwelcome. I now attend a new lower priced gym with similar facilities, no stupid rules and friendly staff that treat me like a normal person. The staff truly get off on enforcing rules and gossiping about members- no respect.

It's a mixed bag review for Arteaga's Poughkeepsie location. I'll lay out the pros and cons from my perspective.
Pros:
Clean facility
Friendly staff
Diversity of equipment
Cons:
Bent bars in the weight room
Poorly organized plates
Incomplete sets of plates at power racks
My constructive criticism for staff is that the weight room needs more respect from lifters and better organization of the plates. It's common for plate pairs to be missing or buried under other denominations of plates and stacked asymmetrically among the racks.
There are three power racks in the lower weight room as of March 2022. Each one would function independently with this list of gear:
collars (1 pair)
2.5, 5, 25lb plates (1 pair each)
10lb plates (2 pairs)
45lb plates (as needed)
Arteaga's has potential, but right now I'm giving it a mixed bag review.

Everyone at this gym is very nice I go for the healthy back and neck program and it is a great program. My boyfriend also does the back program and he loves it. We started doing the XForce circuit almost a year ago, and can see and feel the difference. I feel stronger in my core and in my muscles as well. The pool is amazing along with the hot tub & sauna. They have a cardio theater there where you can work out on bikes treadmills and ellipticals and watch the movie of the day. There are so many things to do at this gym with the classes, the pool the different works out stations and racquetball.

I’ve been a member of this gym for years and it is one of the best since my community gym in Brooklyn. Joseph Garcia who left a very long 1-star review is totally wrong, and his review prompted me to write this. I can’t speak to free weights, as I’m not a gym rat like JG. I am a woman in her 50s trying to stay fit and healthy. The machines are of excellent quality and there is always a staff member available to help or give fitness advice. Everyone is friendly, and there is rarely a wait for entry, though I do make an effort, especially during covid, to go at less popular times of day. Everything is clean and well organized, and that may have to do with the lack of sticky beverages that, as Mr Garcia notes, are not allowed and therefore, as he also notes, haven’t had the opportunity to be spilled. Mr. G is also wrong about member demographics, as I see mostly adults and older adults. I suspect that Mr G was considering opening his own gym and is seeking to devalue the competition or is simply a disgruntled individual seeking revenge, as my experience bears no resemblance to his.

Signed up during covid because they take covid seriously unlike a couple of other local gyms I checked out.
Pros:
It's big
Not crowded
Calm
Not too much of a gym bro atmosphere
Lots of machines and spread out over multiple floors
Cons:
Always a wait for the cable machines
Seem to have purchased new weird xforce machines monitored by staff instead of new regular equipment you can use independently
Closes early on the weekends

One of the best gyms I've ever been to. Amazing staff, well kept equipment, huge variety, and fantastic classes. After a workout hit the pool or the sauna for a great finish! Would recommend to everyone of all ages and fitness level! Oh and the X-Force machines are world class, crazy pumps.

I like this gym, very much. It is clean, friendly, helpful. I have recently signed up for my second membership, it’s great to be back. My recommendation would be: more classes for those of us who work in the city, and definitely don’t work 9-5. I do appreciate how Mike treats his staff, seems employee-friendly, and as a business owner, I appreciate that (even if it means they’re closed early on certain holidays). Would love a family membership too.

This club STINKS. If you want to swim say min we’d fri YOU CANT !!
The jacuzzi is cold every Wednesday & Saturday morning because INSTEAD OF CLEANING IT AT NIGHT WHEN THE GUM CLOSES HE DOES IT IN THE MORNING!!!
He also fills the pool with cold water EVERY WEDNESDAY & SAT MORNING INSTEAD OF AT NIGHT!!!
I’ve never experienced such an insulting management
HE EVEN HAD THE LOUNGE CHAIRS RENOVED FROM THE POOL BECAUSE AND I QUOTE “ people were staying too long”
IF TGERE WAS A PROPERLY RUN CLUB ANYWHERE AROUND IM POSITIVE THIS ONE EOULD B OUT OF BUSINESS!!!

Older staff at the desk are rude. Equipment is outdated. Super expensive. Classes are crowded and the hours are not good for anyone who doesn’t have a 9-5 schedule. If you do have a 9-5 schedule it get super crowded on machines. Beware the annual fee, too. They only had my partner sign the paperwork so I didn’t know it existed. It’s 2019, maybe they should go over all the paperwork with every adult instead of allowing one adult to sign for another. Seemed unprofessional and a bit illegal. Hopefully they will update their business practices.

I've been an avid gym goer and self proclaimed fitness junkie for a long time I've been to every kind of gym. I spent two years studying personal training. I've been to multiple planet fitnesses, gold gyms, CrossFit gyms, family run gyms, and power lifters gyms. A gym culture is really important for people and it really determines if you wanna stay I've been in this gym half a year. It's awful. You have much better choices in the area if you look or are willing to drive. So let's start with the gym culture
The people are primarily college age. This isn't bad issue is none and I mean almost all, don't re-rack weights or place them in there correct spots. 40 pound dumbbells go in the 40 pound spot. Why do I have to search for it like Marco Polo in the desert to do my set. You have employees there you either need to encourage members to re rack weights or have staff fix the place. Same goes for the weight plates might I add. Why do I need to dig through the 5s and 25s to reach the 35s. It's not extra exercise it's frustrating. I went to grade school I know how to match shapes what's going on here. This is annoying but the people are also just rude.
Very stuffy it's hard for me to strike that against the gym but if you go to a lot of gyms and you notice the members act differently at each. You'll understand what I mean. Say what you will about planet fitness members, at those gyms people tend to be quiet keep to themselves. Go to a family run gym or powerlifter gym. Everyone is kind and helpful. A positive community that encourages fitness. Mike Arteaga's does the opposite.
This is another pet peeve but card swipes for gym entry are the most efficient for gyms at the size of Mike's. It's a big box gym why do I have to give the receptionist my name. Some members have a number code but I never got that. Check in is slow and some days I and others don't want to talk to people. I would take anything over verbal check in. And you could cut down on staff because it really seems like they don't do much.
Let's move onto gym rules. Gyms have written etiquette as well now this is just a dumb rule that boggles the mind but a lot of serious people go to Mike's many of them drink things like pre-workout and post. Why am I only allowed to bring water in. I shouldn't have to smuggle in pre-workout like I'm Tony Montana so no employee will have to walk over to me and tell me not to drink that. Why is this rule in place? people still drink things that aren't water all the time. It can't be due too spills. I've never seen anything spilt there. Most of the gym is hard flooring. If someone does make an obscene mess why wouldn't they just be charged anyway.
The reason you'd go to Mike's is convenience and it's pool. The gym is too small for the amount of people that go there they are expanding but I highly doubt that'll change anything. If you want a good gym with a pool go to All sport. It's right down 55. If you want a big gym go to gold's. If you want to be left alone and/or feel welcome go to Planet fitness or a family run gym. If you just walk on a treadmill go to planet fitness. If you want classes go to gold's. Mike doesn't offer anything unique it is a messy poorly run gym full of charmingly annoying people. Save your money for a gym that'll help you I can tell you right now Mike Arteaga's is not that gym.

The gym is ok. It they are missing some key elements for someone being serious about fitness. Trying to locate a scale I was informed that they do not have a scale while it isnt a huge deal this is the only gym I have ever been to without a scale. Some of the freeweights are pretty beat up but they work fine. The equipment is pretty dated for some of the machines. The classes are decent as well. Over all I'd say the gym is ok but could use some minor improvements.
