Momentum Fitness is a personal training and group fitness studio on the Upper West Side offering one-on-one training and small-group classes in yoga, Pilates, barre, strength training, and kettlebell work. All classes are capped at 10 participants for focused coaching. No memberships required — just expert trainers, tailored programs, and a supportive neighborhood environment. Serving NYC since 2010. I started training with David Tepattaporn in January after a six-month break due to injury, hoping to learn how to exercise properly and build muscle. With his guidance, I not only recovered but also gained strength and confidence. David makes training very enjoyable — he's positive, encouraging, and has a great way of using your strengths to build up your weaknesses without you even realizing it.

I never saw myself as athletic, but his approach shifted that mindset. For instance, when I doubted my coordination, he'd say, "You’ve got great balance — let’s add a challenge," turning self-doubt into a skill-building moment.

David taught me the true value of a proper warm-up — not just a quick cardio burst, but a 30-minute routine focused on mobility, stability, and full-body engagement. I still use it today. He also showed me how to truly engage my core — not by sucking in, but by bracing with my diaphragm, a game-changer for everyday movement.

Throughout our sessions, he carefully watched my form, made smart adjustments when something didn’t feel right, and explained the “why” behind every movement. I now understand how to warm up, stabilize, lift, and progress exercises in a way that feels smart and safe.

Thanks to David, I feel confident walking into a gym and using barbells — something I never thought I’d say. He’s a fantastic trainer, and I’d recommend him to anyone looking to build a strong, sustainable fitness routine.

This was a really cute, neighborhood gym. It had all of the modern amenities that one would need from a gym, but with a more intimate, community feel. I did a fitness class with them and left feeling worked out and stronger. If I lived in the neighborhood, I’d go here all of the time.

I've sampled many classes on the UWS and Bao has the best class around for those who want a workout with results. He pushes you to your personal limit while also providing personalized adjustments for exercises depending on your body (e.g. I have weak wrists).

Met with Marco, the gym's owner, for two private sessions. Doing exactly as he instructed under his supervision, I was injured both times. The first time, I could hardly bend from standing to sitting for four days, even with heat, ice, and stretching. Since the second one-on-one session, I have been in excruciating pain despite with heat, ice, and RX dosing of Alleve. I will likely have to seek medical care. Over the course of my life, I have worked with various trainers and fitness instructors. I have NEVER previously need injured doing anything they instructed while under their direct supervision. You cannot gain in fitness if your instructor's instructions cause you to get injured in every session. My advice is go elsewhere.

With the nonstop energy that is NYC, Momentum Fitness is a retreat from the chaotic hustle. Marco the owner and head trainer, along with his team of dedicated staff offer a variety of classes to suit any level/interest. They are educated on injuries and aches and pains and will take the time to cater to your exact needs, even in a full class. I found them on ClassPass, but quickly joined after realizing this is a one of a kind gym in the city. It’s sparkling clean, classy and welcoming to all. And supporting a small family business makes the experience even more fulfilling. Thanks to Marco and the team, ya’ll are the absolute best.

I've been working with Marsha for a little over a year now. Prior to that, I was measuring success by - 1) the number I saw on the scale, and 2) the caloric intake on MyFitnessPal. Needless to say, there was a lot of yo-yo-ing, with periods of weight loss, followed by periods of weight gain - no tracking of muscle mass, body composition, lean analysis, muscle-fat analysis -- and no progression plan. I was stuck in the same cardio pattern with no progress -- it was extremely frustrating.

Marsha has helped me pivot my focus to strength, consistency in healthy habits, and longevity. So when she recommended tracking progress via the InBody check at Momentum, I was really curious to start measuring my success outside of just the scale.

When you walk into the gym, it's extremely well-lit and open - with a large space in the center, and specific stations and rooms / offices to the sides. The front desk is your first stop and they're extremely helpful in getting you signed in. This was my first time in a gym since a full year of lockdown so I was impressed to see all the safety measures that Momentum was taking -- everything was squeaky clean, there weren't a lot of people so they were clearly mindful of capacity, and every single person was adhering to the mask rule. I was so relieved! After the InBody, you get your results right away -- and wow -- all the analysis was so illuminating. I can now take that, and make more informed decisions about my diet and fitness program.

I've decided to check my progress via InBody more frequently than just annual so that I can stay on track. And the process at Momentum was so easy-breezy - I'll definitely be back!

Love this facility! The small class size allows for more personal attention. You can’t go wrong with any class. I find that every instructor will correct your form and motivate you to do your best. It’s pretty close to one on one training with the amount of attention they give to all of their students. Once you’re a regular like me, they really get to know what you are capable of and will make recommendations for heavier weights. I’ve seen so much progress in my transformation in these last 5 months and I couldn’t have done it without these classes. You will definitely get your money worth -you get in,work hard,and see results. Definitely give it a try!

Jonathan Constant I found Momentum Fitness after leaving Equinox and searching for a nice studio where I could practice my yoga and this place was PERFECT! I tried Stephanie’s Wednesday evening class and it was small, only 6 people, and very personalized. The lockers and showers are immaculately cleaned and stocked with soaps, shampoo, and plenty of clean fluffy towels. So glad to have finally cut off the expensive membership gym for something more intimate and welcoming!

I left Equinox after the whole fundraising scandal and was fortunate enough to find Momentum Fitness. The gym is beautiful and clean and the space is open and inviting. The trainers are excellent and I can't wait to try their Yoga and Pilates classes. Best part is I'm no longer tied down with any expensive membership fees or contracts. This is truly NYC's best kept secret!!!

Momentum Fitness is a boutique fitness studio, with a physical therapy office in the back. Very clean, good lighting, and knowledgeable fitness staff. The trainers know what they are doing, and see this as a career . . not just a side job or passing job while they make it through to another career. They all take fitness seriously, and make sure clients are maintaining proper form and using the correct technique while lifting weights. I'm a female in my early 40s, and was previously taking spin, barre and the occasional boot camp class. I've now shifted to running outside, still taking spin, but really focusing on strength training, with a goal to do at least 5 unassisted pull ups by the end of the year. I take the "Sandbags and Kettlebells" class, and train with a personal trainer once a week. I was hesitant to invest in personal training in the past, but I've shifted my mindset to invest in my health. I feel stronger and stronger every day, which also helps my emotional health. Thank you to Momentum Fitness!!!

This Place is awesome. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely clean.
I took Angela Cheng’s the SHRED class and I love it!!! I have to say she is a very motivated and fun trainer. She always encourages and pushes you to the best. She is also very resourceful and knows her training very well. Her class definitely helped me to achieve my fitness goals. It is amazing how she constructs her classes with various fun workout routines.

Grace Kavadlo has been my trainer for about a year! She has a wide array of skills - from yoga inversions to kettlebell presses. She has led me thru my goals and beyond!
Specifically, with headstands and handstands. I started off with lots of mental fear & some lack of strength to get myself up into a proper headstand. Now, I have some serious headstand & crow skills- next stop is the freestanding handstand!

I came upon Momentum Fitness through ClassPass. I took a few kettlebell and bodyweight classes there and absolutely loved the private space and attention to detail that all the trainers placed on each person so I signed up for some personal training with Grace Kavadlo. In the past couple of weeks I have seen my body transform into a much stronger and leaner version of my old self. My usual aches and pains are completely gone and I am even flexible enough to touch my toes now! I have attended the first training session and also many of the LeBarre classes and I have had a great experience with the instructors. The instructors give a lot of advice and insight on form and exercise. They have very outgoing and welcoming personalities and I always enjoy the workouts. I have attended LeBarre classes in the past and none have been satisfying due to their slow pace. However, at Momentum, the LeBarre class is upbeat as well as challenging and made me want to return!

People deserve to know the greatness of Marco!

Marco is a phenomenal trainer &awesome person. I trained with Marco for about two months & never felt healthier or more confident than when I was following his plan. Marco works you hard & encourages clean eating. IT WORKS. I lost weight, toned muscle &am stronger than I can ever remember being. If I hadn't moved to a new city, I would keep training with him for as long as possible. There aren't enough good things to say.

Marco is truly invested in your personal success. On days you don't meet, a text message reminder to make healthy choices will encourage you to stay on track. You set goals together and work hard to reach them. This isn't just some one-size-fits-all program... He will learn your limits and strengths as you train and push you as hard as he knows YOU can go. He does it all with a smile & energy that make you want to push through that one last rep to make him proud. He switches up your routine constantly so you never get bored or tired of the same old thing. He's also a genuinely good person & cares about his athletes. You won't be just another client passing through.

I could go on & on about how amazing he is, but long story short: If you want to train with a genuinely awesome person who is invested in reaching your personal goals, train with Marco. You WILL get results & you will NOT regret it.
