Overall love this gym and find employees helpful and pleasant. Unfortunately the pool has been closed in the AM for several weeks due to unfortunate circumstances. It seems this will be for the foreseeable future if they do not hire a new lifeguard. This limits pool accessibility and it’s gotten more crowded other hours.

This NYSC location has gone downhill. The bathrooms are consistently dirty — toilets often look disgusting — and the entire gym feels neglected. For what members are paying, this is unacceptable. Cleanliness is a basic expectation, and members deserve better. I urge management to fix this immediately, or I’ll be canceling my membership.

I’ve been very disappointed with the overall cleanliness of this gym. The facility is in unacceptable condition. The equipment is visibly dirty, dirty mirrors, the floors are grimy, and the bathrooms often smell and look like they haven’t been cleaned in days, if not weeks. It genuinely feels like the gym hasn’t had a proper deep cleaning in months.
For the high annual fees charged, this level of neglect is inexcusable. Cleanliness should be a basic standard, not an afterthought, especially in a facility where hygiene is critical.
On a positive note, the front desk and staff are friendly and professional, but unfortunately, their great attitude doesn’t make up for the unsanitary environment. I strongly urge management to take immediate action before more members walk away.

I’m writing as a concerned and loyal member to express some important feedback regarding the current state of the gym.
Firstly, I believe the size and capacity of the gym should allow for multiple machines of each type. Many machines are frequently unavailable due to high demand, and it significantly impacts the workout experience.
Additionally, over the past few months, the cleanliness of the facility has noticeably declined. The mirrors are consistently dirty, and many of the machines have an unpleasant odor some even smell like rodents. The bathrooms and locker rooms are often smelly and unhygienic, which is extremely discouraging for members who expect a clean and sanitary environment.
As paying customers, we deserve to work out in a space that is not only functional but also clean, safe, and well-maintained. I hope these concerns can be addressed promptly for the well-being and satisfaction of all members.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The staff is unprofessional, unorganized and the facility is far from sanitary. One particular employee, Dave, is especially concerning. If he takes an interest in you, I’d advise you to steer clear. His behavior is extremely unsettling. Multiple complaints have been made about him by several members and management has done basically nothing. Avoid this gym, go to another nearby. There are plenty.

Been a member for years and have gone to different New York sports club locations. This has been the dirties gym out of all the different locations. The women’s bathroom is always dirty and smelly. I've recently returned to the Garnerville location. There is much to praise about the gym. Surprisingly with the amount of business and the lack of competition. The gym is "DATED"!! 1.Heavily used equipment failing and falling apart
2. Layout is unplanned and thrown together.
3. Not enough of what people want so there's usually a line or you may have to skip that exercise if you didn't have time to wait.
4.THE BATHROOMS!!!! Old and Gross..
It seems that NYSC is enjoying the boom with a packed gym, and is not looking to reinvest in the patrons.

I go to the gym every day and every day the machine I use has gum surrounding it on the floor . The same gum for weeks are there meaning they don’t clean good . The machine it self is dirty with hair on it … please clean better … machine 41 arc machine ….

Pro: The staff are friendly.
Con: I've noticed a recurring issue with the cleanliness of the women's bathroom.
My primary concern is related to the gym's opening times in the morning. There have been instances where I arrived for a 5 AM workout, only to find myself waiting outside because the staff responsible for opening was at least 30 minutes late. What's more troubling is that there has been no explanation or apology offered to those of us waiting. Now that's quite disappointing and needs immediate improvement.

The monthly price is not too bad. However, we do pay an annual fee for equipment and maintenance, which this place is not being cleaned it’s really disgusting. I have been a member for years and this place use to be clean but now it doesn’t look like it’s being cleaned at all there is dust everywhere, and bathrooms smell. It’s not fair to the members this should be addressed, if not don’t charge a fee for equipment and maintenance when the place isn’t being cleaned and equipment is not being upgraded.

I think the gym is decent not the best but it’s gets the “job done”. However they can definitely improve on the aesthetics, the bathroom is actually really disgusting, it’s smells and it’s never clean. Smells musty in that area. Im actually scared to use the sauna facilities unfortunately. I barely go in there since I live close by anyway. But I thought NYSC has some sort of standards..in regards to cleanliness. They could definitely invest some money in hiring some janitorial staff?. Just a suggestion!

I have read few bad reviews here. I dont think its fair to all wonderful staffs working at the club. They are very friendly and helpful. Besides been brown skin, I never felt any type of ignorance towards me or my family. We joined for almost a year. We love it. I would say people reading reviews, ignore bad ones. This is wonderful gym, with very affordable price for all the amenities they provide. I wish I could give more than 5 stsrs to all staffs, club itself and everything related to the gym.

Signed up for SINGLE GYM ACCESS to a gym that was closed permanently in 2020. Since then NYSC went bankrupt and after a year of no payments "did me the favor" of transferring my membership to another gym 40 minutes away in a different state and reactivating my payments which has persisted even after changing my card number. Cancellation process is draconian on purpose. If you look up stories online many people have to cancel their entire card and open up a new one to get them to stop bleeding you. Do not give your money to this gym or this company.

Definitely my favorite gym in the area! New York Sports Club has a wide variety of machines and activities! The staff are always helpful and eager to show you around the facility. Each cardio machine has included digital television which makes it convenient when jogging. They offer many in person classes including yoga and boxing! Not to mention the indoor pool and sauna is always kept clean and efficient!

NYSC continues to exploit loopholes and take advantage of its members in order to make money. NYSC/Town Sports International (TSI) were billing members during the pandemic and the Attorney General of NY investigated them for illegally profiting off the Covid-19 shutdown. The Attorney General charged NYSC/TSI with "unlawfully charging monthly dues and engaging in a variety of illegal and fraudulent practices."
My primary gym in NJ permanently closed during the pandemic. Once my gym closed for good, membership should have ended. Instead, NYSC found a way to continue billing me and other members.
NYSC switched my membership out of state to Garnerville, NY without my knowledge or approval. They never sent a letter or called me about such a significant change. They claim an email was sent out about the transfer, but their records show it was unopened. No letters, no phone calls, no follow up. I was charged nearly $400 for the NY location that I never once visited, and have yet to be refunded.
NYSC filed for bankruptcy and permanently closed more than 50 percent of locations; while exploiting a loophole in order to keep billing members.
This is deceptive business and customer service. An opt-in model (rather than opt out) would have been a fair and common sense approach amid a global pandemic and permanent closing of a gym (X amount of months to opt in to a new location, otherwise membership ceases).
My advice to others; there are plenty of fitness facilities that don't play crooked games and actually value their members. Too many people have been burned by NYSC through the years, and many past employees have publicly acknowledged this fact. Find another fitness facility that actually has the best interests of its members in mind.

My wife and I signed up to a different club. During the pandemic the club we originally signed up for closed and never reopened. My wife started getting billed monthly from a club that was closed down? She wanted to cancel her membership, and told her she had to go in person. I suggest for people trying to cancel their memberships to get a letter confirming their cancelation so if they are charged. They can provide those details to their bank. This gym is a bunch of crooks and are just trying to squeeze every dime from anyone who joins their club. Don't join their club. Find another gym to join.

Highly recommend not going here. Very rude employees.. Also: Listen to the rest of these reviews, it's impossible to cancel your membership. You have to "meet with a manager" to cancel your membership and the manager so conveniently seems to be out everyday. Finally waited 25 minutes 1 day for the manager she comes out to the front desk with a see through t-shirt on looked like she came from a street corner I was actually shocked. Whatever the case is she begins laughing as I am cancelling the membership then tells me (without making any eye contact) "we are getting new equipment soon". She probably couldn't make eye contact because she knew she couldn't say that line with a straight face. Also, they claim you have to pay for an additional 2 and a half months to fully cancel the membership. Talk about a scam.. Go to 24 hour in nanuet or even titan fitness or better yet, get some dumbells and workout in your backyard rather than this place.

I went to this location on a one day guest pass. The workers at the gym gave my ID to somebody else who looked nothing like me. They then did nothing to help me find my ID (Keep in mind they asked me for my phone number, address and email address before accepting my one day pass). Thankfully I took a picture of the wrong license they handed me so I was able to look him up on social media and retrieve my Drivers license on my own. I would recommend anyone avoid this place at all costs. Never been so ignored in my life when the mistake was made on their part

I had an issue with my account and spoke to someone ( I forgot the name of the person) and was told the issue was resolved. After a few months I realized that the issue was in fact not resolved. So I had to speak to another manager. Nayomi Fernandez quickly resolved my issue and was extremely kind. She was professional, quick thinking, and resolved my issues quickly. I'm also having an issue with closing my membership account. I closed it in December, was told that I would still have to pay in January, and was still hit with a February charge, which through my budget out of whack. I left a voice mail for the manager. We'll see what comes of it.
Y'all may want to consider blocking them in your bank account, or else do whatever you can to prevent them from dipping into your money.

I been there for so many years and today I had to cancel my membership due to membership increased, for your information only a manager can cancel your account and I have to say that the manager don’t even care about to let go an account that has 8 members on it, when I ask for contracts and why I was not notified about the changes they keep giving me a round around I even started going over with them and noticed that they modified the dates to their own convenience, after arguing with them we decided that there was noting that they will do for us, so we cancelled and not planning to going back to this gym ever. The gym itself is fine. It’s okay other than the fact that they have a pool which is cool. However, I tried to cancel my membership because I could no longer afford to go there. THEY CHARGED ME FOR 3 ADDITIONAL MONTHS AFTER THEY TOLD ME I WOULD NO LONGER BE CHARGED. I had to call so many times and I was lied to every single time. IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A MANAGER TO CALL ME. They said I wouldn’t be charged anymore, 3 separate times. But every single time I was charged. If I get charged one more month I’m filing a chargeback and blocking them from ever charging me again. It’s a shame because it’s a nice gym but the people that work there are horrible at dealing with customers. They don’t even know their own policies. You can’t get a manager to call you. They lie to get more money out of you. They don’t care if you are personally struggling to pay. They make it almost impossible for you to cancel. I will consider going back when I am able too but only if it goes under new management.

I went to a midtown location for a year and had no issues, but when I joined at Garnerville I was given no info about fees, then was hit with a total of $95 in hidden fees when I went to cancel. Plus they gave me the run-around and were pretty rude when I raised this issue to management there.

The machines are run down and there is constant cell phone abuse, such as Facetimeing and people filming themselves working out?
Allow me to add a few more things. At least once a month someone doesn't show up to open, and that's being generous. And if they are there to open at 5am it's a few minutes after.
Also sometime the place is filthy. Towels and weights all over the gym from the night before.

I looked for it today because 3 weeks later I am being charged $44 after I paid $119 to cancel. They make you jump thru hoops to cancel, something that never happened in any other gym I had. I think you guys are not doing well and milking my account for months/years.

Joined this gym for my son,staff not very nice,no assistance available so far and tried to show my wife the gym at 7 pm on Sunday and girl at front desk wouldn’t permit us said they were closed
2 minute walk through would have been nice

Liked this club until I realized I was being charged for 8 months after thinking I had cancelled my subscription online. I was consumed with family matters and did not notice the charges for months. As usual in corporate land there was "nothing that could be done" to refund the money. AND I had to pay a 10$ fee to cancel and an extra month. In total I paid for 15 months or so of health club for 3 visits in about 3 months of service. If you don't like working with corportate "customer service" (not) don't go here.
You don't need a place with a legal staff, a structure that keeps local managers from being able to make decisions about customer care, and customer care people who are trained to avoid customer complaints. Go where there is a human owner who cares about your business and does not have clearance to charge your credit card at will. Not ok. And this is a comment on the Corporate structure of NY Sports Club more than this local branch who went to bat for me, but in truth they have nothing to do with anything. Find a better gym.
@@ Second response to Hereto help (not): This is the problem. There really IS no one to help. And there is no owner. There is only the appearance of an owner and an appearance of customer service so it looks like there is care and responsibility. No one to actually take responsiblity for the fact that your online thing is utterly confusing, the "month to month" plan is a trap you pay a premium for and then can't get out of (without paying 10$ and an extra month...and one month at the beginning extra too). Instead of cancelling I accidently landed in another plan. There was no one to refund my $ even though I very obviously made an error. "Not enough documentation". Really?
And this is the problem. You LOOK like there is customer care, but guess what, there isn't. There are just people paid to tell you "sorry there is nothing we can do it is our policy".
Finally, I asked to speak to someone beyond the branch level and was told that they would give me a number for your corporate headquarters but they would only send me back to the same local branch back, and they have no power to refund my money without higher approval. Brilliant. Another endless and cynical fake "customer care" loop that wastes my time.
But here is the deal, "Heretohelp Team": People eventually know when things are to slick and too abusive. It isn't a strategy that works or lasts long, no matter how great your pool is. Or your bells or your whistles or your come on rates or your incentives. Care about people. You will do better.
@@@ Third response: 1/30/19 Heretohelp Team did not ever contact me as they noted that they would in their response. Proving the point that there is really no effective way to resolve any dispute or problem with NY Sports Club.

Horrible experiance I was charged twice each month Feb and March! Icancelled my gym memeber ship and was also miss charges the following month after that! Iv gotten to know the staff there they arent treated fairly! The managment is never there when you call. Things are constantly broken there. This gym is not worth the money and trainers dont even get half of the 380 you pay for them a month. All this company wants is money Corporate doesn't care at all. Worst gym this was my first experiance and last!

The level of service and maintenance has degraded tremendously at this club. Many of the machines are out of service for weeks on end with no servicing in sight. They had been an increase in gym traffic and yet half the treadmill are broken. Stair masters are also non functional. There are countless things that need repair. Men's bathroom has gone for weeks without hot water and is filthy. How do you guys take are money so easily and make no repairs. Increasing membership fees and no repairs. There are older gyms in the area in better condition. I have not left to another gym because of distance. I will be taking my membership somewhere if I see no improvement. I have also spoke to other members that are unhappy with the club and seeking other facilities.

This is the WOST PLACE EVER!!!!! I called on December 28 to cancel/freeze my membership due to medical reasons and the rep on the phone told me I have to come in and speak to a manager. I asked her if a manager was available today (12/28)and she told me no. I then asked her if a manager was available the next day she told me no the manager will not be available until the new year.
Today I go in 01/02 (after the new year)to cancel/freeze my account and I’m slapped with ridiculous fees that were not disclosed to me. To FREEZE my the account it’s $15 dollars. To CANCEL it’s $10 dollars plus the ANNUAL FEE of 69.99 ((even though the anniversary date isn’t until the 18th). Then I will be charged for February $24.99because They need a 45 day notice. THIS IS JUST TO MUCH! None of this was communicated to me when I did my membership.
I explained to 2 managers why I’m cancelling my membership and the response I got back from them is “ show us proof with a doctors note and we can see what we can do”. TOTAL BS. I CAN NOT go to the gym because I am pregnant and have a high risk for a miscarriage. Why do I have to disclose my medical condition against my will to NYSC so they will not charge me. I kept repeating myself but it’s like they didn’t care. Get a doctors note give us leverage is what they kept saying to me, like my stomach Poking out wasn’t enough poking out wasn’t enough. This is NOT RIGHT OR FAIR for NYSC To treat women like this. I feel so discriminated against, I’m not canceling cause I want to. I’m canceling because I don’t want to lose my baby and NYSC Is punishing me for that. ITS NOT RIGHT !!!!!

Machines do not get fixed for months... I personally now of 1 bench that's been broken for 4 weeks that I know of could be longer I notified managers about 4 weeks ago.and a cable machine been broken for at least 2 weeks

Really! , I go for 3 days and have to cancel due to work and they tell me it'll be 45 days take for cancellation. Then they tried charging my account 3 times and now they're charging a late fee.I I'm just hearing about this and it was back in June when I went. I can understand if I went for 2 weeks or more. This place doesn’t even deserve one star.My bf and I were members here and we were charged for an annual fee two times on both accounts the same year. I had to call multiple times to speak to a manager (and never heard back from them ) I had to go to the gym personally to cancel the account and after that, I thought it was over they charged us again.

Went for first time this weekend as Nyack was closed, it was clean,, friendly staff, three of the treadmills were not working and had no signs stating as such on them. Locker room facilities were clean, nice. For some reason a Windows PC sound bite kept repeating on the loud speakers for over an hour. Sort of odd. I will go back.

I’ve been going here about a year now
Every week there’s equipment broken
There’s a shortage on equipment to begin with
The barbells are rusting and SMOOTH which is dangerous Esp for a person who wants to bench press or squat.
The staff is fine from my experience
But I feel like the way the gym is laid out sucks - your 70% cardio machines and not enough free weights and if you watch yourpeak Times you’ll see you have people waiting constantly for machines
Your sauna is broken weekly I feel
The water from the fountains comes out warm
The bathrooms are absolutely DISGUSTING.
This is why I joined 24 hour fitness
Don’t become planet fitness guys the brand is going down hill
THE NANUET CLUB WAS 10000% better ask any member you have who came from there like I did!

This place is going downhill, no new equipment, the old equipment is out of service. If it wasn't for Mariana whom I feel really cares for the place & makes everyone feel like this her home & she's grateful for the support, I'd look elsewhere. All I can say is my membership should be less if I'm receiving less. I know she's not the only that works there but I only see her working, trying to keep the place clean. To the owners of this establishment, play the video tape & see what she does. She's picking up weights, sweeping floors, gathering empty water bottles off the floor- who worked the night prior to closing? Shouldn't that be done before closing the gym. Sorry for the venting but I had to say something when I was asked for a review.

Zumba classes on Sundays over crowded 55+ people. You feel like a sardine. One wrong step and you will be kicked or stepped on. Management from NYC should visit on Sunday and try the class. Maybe then they will add an 8am class
Oh and forget the pool. They give swimming lessons for kids here and cut down the swim lanes.

The gym makes it so hard to cancel. I had a membership for my husband and I. I went to the gym in July 2017 to cancel spent a whole month going every week to cancel and was told I needed to speak to a manager. I finally got a call back from a manager in September 2017 where she told me all I needed was a note to cancel. I was about to get to the gym with a note in October 2017. They didn't put the cancel till December. When I got my credit statement I was charged 4 times. I've called the gym and they told me that that 2 of the charges were a mistake and that I was going to be refunded. They said the other two were cancellation fees. My account was supposed to be cancelled starting November 1 had someone at the gym done their job correctly. When I spoke to a manager he agreed to cancel the two charges. Almost 3 months later I am still being charged all four charges. I've spoken with them countless times and have even went in to talk to some one. Avoid this gym at all cost they are thieves. I've have a membership at plant fitness and it was really really simple to cancel.

The facilities are generally clean and well kept, but that is one of the only positives to belonging to this gym. Jeremy, who is a member of the management team is extremely helpful, if you need anything go to him. Otherwise, the customer service is awful. Management works odd hours so that you cannot modify or cancel your membership, and there is only one manager who can do so, so good luck catching him if you work a normal 9-5 work day. When calling the corporate number they are of no help either, just told me to meet with the manager. This is the most unprofessionally run gym I have ever belonged to. Do not join if you are expecting mediocre to good customer service because you will only be disappointed! Do not join this gym, it's a scam and will be a huge regret!

The place is always clean, and moderately busy. I have become very frustrated with their lack of upkeep on machines. Several of the TV sets on the elliptical machines do not work, and I bring it up every time I go. I am always told that they will let management know and that it will be fixed "soon." This has been going on since January 2017. It is beyond frustrating.

I've been training here for about a month. Nice facility with friendly staff. They have a nice stretch of open space with turf and kettlebells, a few sleds, and battle ropes. My only negative about the place is there are only one to two racks suitable to set up for deadlifts and space is very limited in that area. All in all a great gym with all you need to stay in all around good shape.

I originally left a three-star review for this gym and I am now updating this to one star. I left this gym because it is very unsanitary a staff was horrible everybody was standing around doing nothing and when you bought anything to anybody's attention everybody blamed corporate. Save your money and your time and find another gym. Also I was a member there for three years and the prices only increased and the service decreased.

I had to contact my state representative to get involved in a refund situation where NYSC overcharged me, and continued to charge me after cancellation confirmation had been received. Mr. Zebrowski's office helped me after six weeks of daily attempts to obtain a refund and stop the madness, and they were successful. Overall, between the cancellation and refund, it took over three months. This was not a case of not understanding cancellation policies. I understood them fine, and adhered to them. It was TSI (owner of NYSC Garnerville) was absolutely shady in its accounting practices.
No need to respond "personally" - the situation is resolved, now.
