Probably impossible but something has to be done about people who spend eternity on equipment mainly checking their phones. It is unreal the level of discourteousness that the clientele at this gym have. Nothing you can do about gyms being busy but folks should be mindful to move with purpose.

This is my third gym in Astoria and never have i seen messier clientele. It boggles the mind honestly.

Staff is great however and disorganized weights wouldn’t be three stars on its own but like…why does the AC barely work? Why is the elevator always busted?

For the price ($55 a month for a yearly commitment) and the quality and availability of machines (around 11am when i usually go) it’s a pretty ok gym if you’re close by.

I’ve been attending training sessions with Kostas for about three weeks or so now and I honestly have to say he’s been super attentive to what my needs are, pushes me while encouraging and supporting me and the session never feels like work. I look forward to every session and only wish I had more $$ to do them twice a week. Ask for him if you’re looking for a great, compassionate and goal oriented trainer!

I have been a member of NYSC for years! The Astoria gym has always been a favorite when compared to the other queens locations for a multitude of reasons including the cleanliness level of the bathrooms. It wasn’t ever perfect, but it was decent. It was clean. However, this gym has completely gone down hill. The bathroom
Is absolutely filthy. I feel dirty simply stepping foot in there. Nothing is cleaned, toilets are dirty, foul smells everywhere, wet and dirty floors, no plastic bags. This gym is literally falling apart. I don’t know what happened but this is absolutely unacceptable and unfair. If this doesn’t change, I will be forced to terminate my membership very soon.

I’ve been paying $94/month, and honestly, it feels like I’m being nickel-and-dimed at every turn. They charge extra for towels ($15/month) — seriously? That should be basic gym hygiene. But what really got me is that they charge $10 per session just to use the HydroMassage bed, which is advertised like it’s part of the experience.

For nearly $100/month, you’d expect some level of comfort and included amenities — not to be upcharged for everything. The gym isn’t luxury-tier, but the pricing sure is.

Extremely disappointed. I could get better value and more respect for my money at other fitness centers. Locations in Manhattan are the complete opposite may I add. The showers and sauna at the Astoria location is moderately pretty gross.

I’ve been a member here for 5 years and I’m really disappointed with how the women’s bathroom has been neglected. For the past three weeks, there has been no consistent cleaning, and it’s honestly unacceptable. The toilets are dirty, the smell is awful, and it’s clear no one is maintaining basic hygiene standards.
Members pay a monthly fee that isn’t cheap, and the minimum we should expect is a clean and sanitary restroom. A gym should prioritize cleanliness—especially in shared spaces—but that has not been the case here recently. I hope management takes this seriously and fixes it quickly, because it’s becoming a health concern and a big reason to reconsider staying a member. I have attached photos and will keep adding .

Lumi is training me for the NYC Marathon, focusing on strength and injury prevention. She is a fantastic trainer, she knows the mechanics of running and the muscle groups that need most attention. This place has mixed reviews, but I think it really depends on your personal experience. For me, it’s been great! I just signed up at this gym, and the staff has been helpful and friendly. The front desk is always smiling and greeting you with a hi and goodbye.

When I signed up, I had a lot of questions, and I want to give a shoutout to Christian, he was very patient, friendly, and answered all of my questions. He even made some great recommendations. Tremendous help!

I recommend this place. The facilities, machines, and overall gym setup are very complete. My only concern is the elevator, it’s not always reliable. Sometimes it’s out of service. While it’s a gym and most people can take the stairs, it's important to keep the elevator working for those with disabilities who rely on it.
I’ll still give it 5 stars because overall, the gym is great.

This gym has made great improvements by adding more equipment However the instructors remain inept. There are some that seem to be there just for a paycheck. There is no effort and the classes are not challenging. I wish the gym would do something about the amount of time the clients sit on equipment looking at their phone. Maybe put up a sign asking to be courteous of others trying to use the machine.

I love going to New York sports club. The staff is So friendly and warm and helpful! Teachers are fabulous! Unfortunately, I don’t remember all the teachers names. I do remember Nancy H and she’s great. DAY is a fantastic boxing instructor! Helen is amazing! Everyone who teaches total body conditioning, Pilates, yoga are great! I have been a member of Lucille Roberts since 2011. After they closed the Astoria location, I joined NYSC, and my experience there has been quite frustrating. In 2024, I froze my account for six months, but after just one month, they started charging me again. A couple of months later, I received a debt collection notice. Despite calling them multiple times to resolve the issue, it wasn't fixed, so I had to go to the office in person, where they addressed the problem, but I still had to pay some fees. Additionally, they increased my membership price.

Later on, I signed up for personal training for a month due to a shoulder injury, as I wanted to avoid any potential issues. However, after three sessions, I emailed them to cancel the training before the new month started, as advised by the manager, Kevin. Unfortunately, I did not receive a response to my email. I then informed my personal trainer, Kelly, to cancel my sessions, and he said he would relay the message. I also called the office and the person told me he is new but he didn't see any PT on my account which means it's canceled. However, they continued to charge me every month since May and just yesterday, they charged my account again.

I have called them for the past four days to cancel my personal training, but they just keep saying they will do it without any results. I usually don’t like writing reviews, but this situation has been incredibly frustrating. The staff at this gym is very disorganized in handling their responsibilities. I'm sorry to say, but based on my experience, this place feels like a scam. I hope someone can resolve my issue soon, as I need to find a better gym.

I love this club and I love this class! BODYPUMP with Jacqueline is challenging as I want it to be that day. Weights or no her focus on form is key. I appreciate her music and her welcoming vibe! I have been a member for 5 months .. the 2 stars here are just for some classes & instructors I find useful .. but in general it seems the quality of this place degrades overtime !
1. When I joined, the gym looked better taken care of, there was a sparkling water machine with flavors, then no flavors only sparkling water, then just water & they removed it all together ..
2. The scale they put in the locker room is a joke, it’s inaccurate and pain to use, I believe they got it after a clinic decided to throw it away so they reused it .. then they won’t allow you to use the accurate one inside the glass room.. if you want to have message you can’t or you have to pay .. ridiculous.. the message and the in body weight are in many other gyms, they provide to their members and guests too .. no questions asked !
3. I was recentky working out in the lower level area around the time before closing , weekday before 11PM and it was a total Mess .. weights were everywhere thrown on the floor, I couldn’t even find the one that I use due to the mess ..
4. Some of the front desk are unprofessional & slightly rude .. there was a serious incident last Friday & the Pilates class was cancelled, the area around the gym had the crime scene tape and police was on the corner .. all class members including the instructor were standing on the opposite corner not having a clue .. no explanation of what’s going on & no apology given to us until now !
when I asked a young lady at the desk about this day she briefly said there was an incident and when I asked further questions she said “I wouldn’t think about it that way “ as if I was asking her opinion!! Then she walked away left me standing there .. What a dismissive & unprofessional attitude.. you need to train your staff to have basic human common sense & customer service skills !

I’m gonna start off by saying that I’ve been a member since the beginning and the opening of New York sports club. I’ve never brought a guest before and this weekend my cousin is in town and she came to the gym with me thinking there shouldn’t be any issues bringing a guest For one day. They tell me that they want to charge me $30 for her as a guest for one day only and not for the week that she’s here and I pay $50 a month for an unlimited membership. They also gave me the option of paying $75 for her for three days. I’m considering leaving New York sports club and would be looking for another gym that can accommodate guests of long and upstanding members this gym has been riddled with issues since day one between the elevators not working and you have to hike up four flights of stairs before your workout, especially if you’re carrying a bicycle and the lack of enforcement on how people use machines and how long they occupy them as well as the useless trainers that are wandering aimlessly around the gym on their phones and trying to pick up womenor talking to each other. I spoke to the manager his solution was cancel your membership so I’m done with New York sports club unless they would like to contact me and make amends. (The only thing I can do thanks for the reply, but I wanted to charge me full price and a half day)

Giving this gym 5 stars because of my trainer Lumi - she is so knowledgeable in her expertise, pushes me when I feel like I can’t do anymore and keeps me focused on my goals. She makes training such a pleasant experience and we have fun together. I also love her ceremony and hyrox classes! The recovery room is a nice plus for members getting training.

The gym overall is okay- you can get a good workout in with the machines and weights they have, although the gym itself is a bit warm and needs to be cleaned more thoroughly. There’s also a sauna and showers that appear clean. No towel service.

Overall, I enjoy coming to this gym, especially because of Lumi

When I went back to NYSC Astoria this spring, I found they had made some welcome changes to the floor with the weight machines. The ones I use the most are lower body, and they now have 3 leg press and 3 abductor/adductor machines with stacks of weights. Any time I’ve been there recently, I haven’t had to wait for one of those. In general, they’ve added more new machines with stacks so there’s more I can do. (I’m older and not in the “heavy lifting” category though they still have the machines with the big round weights in one corner of the second floor.) They also replaced their old rickety recumbent bikes with spiffy new models. And the front desk was very patient and pleasant in sorting out a glitch with my new “Renew Active” membership (senior citizen). However, I wish they would enforce their ban on cell phones on the gym floor so people can’t sit on the machines playing with their phones. They used to years ago. (I’ve been a member on and off since 2006). Under “club and membership policies” on their Web site, they say: “Use of cell phones for phone conversations and/or applications is strictly prohibited in cardio and strength training areas…” It would be great if they put someone on the gym floor to enforce that policy to “… keep things moving in our workout spaces.” Other than that, I think they’ve done a good job of renovating and getting back up to speed with their services.

Kelly met me today , walked me through the NYSC in Astoria and showed me all that is available. He was fantastic ! He also gave me a body scan which gave me insight to what my personal fitness needs are and where he could assist me with my goals. The vibe was great and staff friendly but the equipment needs regular maintenance or replaced. Two stair masters I tried made horrible noises and the quad machine weights didn’t lineup with the pulleys. I hope I have better luck with the arm machines tomorrow

Giving 3 stars only because there’s no longer a proper stretching area and no access to the studios when classes aren’t in session. If there’s no dedicated stretching zone, members should at least be allowed to use mats in an empty studio!

The stretching area needs to be brought back, and all cardio machines should be moved upstairs to prevent the space from feeling overwhelming. This would also allow the new equipment you added to be placed closer to the windows, making the layout more functional.

Additionally, if the stretching area has been removed, members should at least be allowed to use a studio when there are no classes taking place. Without that option, the overall experience has noticeably worsened

Been coming to NYSC for a little over year. I get personal training with Delbert 1x per week, and he's been incredible. In a year I've gone from unable to complete a workout to able to workout out in the morning and run a race in the evening. Delbert does a fantastic job at coaching form for each lift and tailoring the workouts to meet you where you are and where you want to be.

Total Body Conditioning with Charmaine is my absolute favorite class at NYSC. Charmaine is an amazing instructor—always tailoring the class routine to target a different muscle group, attentive to people, and an overall awesome person. I love this gym but they removed the water machine and that hurt my outlook. We already pay over $50 a month for this gym. Also, we can’t even be provided with floor mats for workouts unless we do a class. I think that’s another downside. I had a great experience at New York Sports Club in Astoria. Lots of space and equipment. Staff is super friendly, too. However, being 6"3, I often struggle with a lot of the equipment. They feel outdated and you can't adjust them to your height. For example, the decline chest press machine - if you have long arms it's super hard to initially lift off without your shoulders feeling like they're gonna pop. You would think you could push the seat back to help with this but it doesn't have this feature. So you either have to wait around for free weights which can take a while or just wing it and work out with what's available, which defeats the purpose of wanting to target specific muscles on certain days.

Gym is in a convenient location, seems clean and has a variety of equipment. Looks like they got a bunch of new equipment lately also. My main concern is that it’s always hot in this gym, mainly the bottom floor, even in the winter! I’m glad that other reviews have also mentioned this! I haven’t seen any fans around…it would be so much more comfortable if there was some sort of air flow! Leaving this review because I left a comment internally and never heard back :(

theres a lot of people who are unhappy here and the reasons are valid and theres also solutions for them. My last gym was a very high end gym and theres a few things you can easily adapt without too much cost to improve your reviews and client experience.

Your equipment is often broken which makes the gym experience frustrating especially when this is considered one of your premium locations. Every day theres at least one piece not working but normally there are 2-3 broken. You have a ton of equipment but it still feels like we are waiting around because a lot of them are broken. Theres no point in giving s gym a makeover and then not maintaining it because now you've lost money in the product depreciating .

- If you had people who walked around the gym and monitored how people treat the weight you could resolve this. It would be one person who walks around, re-racks and also calls people out who dont re-rack. If someone slams the weight you call them out. If this angers those one or two people its worth it to set the standard for everyone else that this wont be tolerated and now you spend less money and time fixing things constantly and having people annoyed by your gym. You can even split these shift up into your busier times at the gym, it doesnt need to be all day, it can just be morning and night to save cost.

- you could also add an hour to the morning peoples shift for them to go around and lube the cables that need it, and maybe do this 3x a week. Yes this costs money BUT its an investment in your gym and your product to make it a better experience for everyone which in turn gives you better reviews and more people joining and staying at the gym. Which obviously makes you more money.

- your fitness classes are loud, im sure the idea is to attract people but its pretty annoying to have top of the line noise canceling headphones on and still hear blasting rap music from 2012. You could easily take the area downstairs that is towards the back and elevated where the back extension is and make that your class area and install some kind of barrier. It would cost you money but again will make a better experience for everyone which brings you more money because the longterm profit is high.

- OR just keep your classes at different times do that the rooms are used. Or make your recovery center downstairs on the elevated area and get cheap dividers and use that room as a fitness class room.

Finally your trainers could be friendlier and more interactive. I only see them on the floor when they are training clients or when they themselves are training. If you give them floor shifts where they have to walk around, fix weights, it then gives them the opportunity to talk to people and get more clients which makes your gym a lot of money. At my last gym thats how my last trainer started to work with me because they came up to me on their floor shift. I saw them get several clients this way, ive never seen any of your trainers approach. They are normally just at the front desk or they are working with a client.

I have a lot more ideas and comments but these are probably the easiest to apply and hopefully you do.

Message for the management: as we all know spinning classes are in high demand, especially during the weekend but yet about 30% of bikes 🚴 are broken and nobody seems to care to fix it or replace it. It’s upsetting to come to spinning and not being able to because there isn’t a bike available!!

I'm extremely disappointed with this gym. If you can, consider joining somewhere else. The classes NEVER honor your booking. You need to book 48 hours in advance, and even if you arrive ON TIME for the class, you might not get your spot. It's been incredibly frustrating lately. If you complain at the reception, they're NOT helpful and don't even listen to you. If possible, join another gym - avoid the Astoria 30th Ave location.

I’ve been a member of NYSC for almost 8 years. I love to see how they’ve invested in the club equipment and facilities. I’ve been training with Delbert almost five years and he’s amazing. Very knowledgeable and friendly and my results have been great. He’s helped make me a better healthier version of myself. Everyone at the front desk is very nice but Daniel really is a pleasure to see. He’s always happy and upbeat and somehow remembers my name. Delbert and Daniel really make my gym experience wonderful.

Gym equipment is good for the city. Plenty of squat racks and it's more focused on lifting then cardio.

However the air conditioning needs serious work. They have these portable units installed that they don't maintain the filters on, so they lost half their efficiency. The filters in the mechanical room are filthy and the condenser on the roof also.

The bathroom always smells, so they likely haven't changed the belt on the toilet exhaust fan, or it burned out.

The HVAC needs work. Carbon dioxide levels are too high also, their outside air damper on the hvac is likely seized. If the air handler is even working to begin with.

EDIT: still love it here, and still think it’s the best value gym in Astoria. But for the love of god, please update the sound system in the spin class room. The one old, giant speaker is SO loud, but so distorted. You can’t hear anything the instructors are saying and my ears are always ringing when I leave the class. Would be so much better to get a few new, smaller speakers throughout the space. And more fans. PLEASE.

Great gym for the price! Lots of space and options, and the staff is always helpful and friendly. My only complaint is that they haven’t included enough weight machines on the lower floor. Tons of empty benches and free weights/barbells but always a wait for the weight machines near cardio. Even before 7am this is the one area where you will have to wait your turn.

I've been a member of this gym since 2022 and have always spoken highly of it, even recommending it to friends. Unfortunately, I can no longer say the same. The gym is always dirty, with cleaning wipes scattered on the floor and no one (neither the staff nor the other members) seems to care. The weights are never put back in their proper places, so you waste a lot of time just searching for them. The women's restroom always smells bad, and the toilet door and lockers have been broken for months. As for the men's restroom, the floor is always wet.
When it rains, there are always buckets scattered around the hallway due to leaks, and the lower floor has a strange smell. During the summer, the air conditioning is not enough, which makes the lower floor even hotter and more uncomfortable.
For a gym of this size, it's surprising that there is only one abductor/adductor machine, and there's a lack of dumbbells. To give you an idea, during peak hours (4-8pm), you can't find any dumbbells available for use. If you're looking for a gym to record content for social media, this is definitely not the place-lighting is poor, which makes it difficult to capture good footage.
On the positive side, they do have a good number of squat racks and a variety of classes such as yoga, pilates, and zumba. However, these classes are always very crowded, and sometimes it's hard to book a spot.
I really hope the management takes action to address these issues, or else this gym will continue to decline. It's a shame because it used to be a place I genuinely enjoyed, but now I feel it's no longer
worth it.

It’s basically an overcrowded Planet Fitness, just with a mediocre class schedule. They don’t even have towels, if you want to shower you have to bring your own towel. This gym was much nicer pre-2020, I know the pre-2020 owners scammed people out of money, but they did run a better gym… seriously though if they had towels, I would add whole extra star to this review.

It has been 4.5 years since I was a member and I am regretting becoming a member. I wasn’t told until I already became a member that the Recovery lounge is an additional cost. It is only complimentary if I am training with a trainer. What a hoax!

The sauna room is never monitored. Females are always wearing their smelly clothes and using their phones in the sauna. The point of the sauna is to relax, but that can’t be done when it smells like sweat & people are wearing their dirty wet clothes in there. That is disgusting and most importantly unsanitary!!! The females stay there longer because they are on their cell phones and it is intrusive when they are listening to music or talking while in the sauna. There is a sign that says the music should be low and to leave sneakers outside the room, then there is a separate sign that says to not wear clothes. There should be a very big sign in BOLD AND CAPS TAHT SAYS NO CLOTHES OR IF YOU MUST WEAR CLOTHES CHANGE INTO CLEAN CLOTHES AND NO PHONES. As a result, I can’t use the only amenity that is included in my membership because it is not relaxing for me and I almost puked from the pungent sweat smells. I feel like I am in a high school locker room or at Planet Fitness but paying a higher membership fee.

This gym was very convenient as I could just walk there. I was a member there pre-pandemic & haven’t been back since. I loved the yoga instructor Paul & he was one of the main reasons I stayed. It was great because I was there almost 5/6 days a week & looked forward to Saturday mornings yoga class. Just needed a change of scenery. The one thing I didn’t like was they had their cleaning/dusting done every time I was there. Its great to have a clean, dust free environment, but most of us are allergic to dust & I would start sneezing & then my eyes would start to water & the congestion/headache came. Not everyone may be as sensitive as me. But it was uncomfortable. Staff were ok. Overall it gets the workout in when I wasn’t sneezing.

I recently joined the New York Sports Club and, unfortunately, my experience has been underwhelming. While the gym has potential, a few major issues make it difficult to recommend.

First, the facilities feel outdated and not well-maintained. Some of the equipment is either broken or showing signs of wear, which can be frustrating during peak hours when alternatives are limited.

Second, cleanliness is a concern. Locker rooms and common areas could use more frequent attention, as they often feel neglected.

On a positive note, the customer service is good. Staff members are friendly and willing to help whenever needed, which is a definite plus.

The locker room was another disappointment—it was dirty, and several lockers were broken, which adds to the impression that the facility isn’t being properly maintained.
