We honestly do not recommend. They are fooling people, make pay more money. Our family got charged extra money, we have been told to try one month for 20$ but got charged for annual fee 83$. Plus you cant easily cancel your membership also they keep your card information.

Nice new weight machines.

However I wouldn't mind some new stairmaster machines.

Also, some of the other guests are rude. Hog machines and don't wipe them off. It's Queens. 🙄🤷‍♀️

Gina is an excellent yoga instructor! She knows so well how to modify poses, guiding the students in a way that aligns with the students’ needs, accommodating them to their level.
I have found Gina’s yoga therapeutical in nature.
Thank you NYSC for providing such a great find!

The New York Sports Club, at Rego Park, is a great gym to join, not only because of its diverse class offerings, (I really enjoy my yoga classes, offered at night, with the nicest instructors, Jamie and Gina), but for its cleanliness, quality and maintenance of equipment, a well maintained sauna, flexible scheduling and overall atmosphere.
The NYSC , at Rego Park, has the warmest front-desk staff, with Raymond, being one of the nicest, personable young man there.

Great place .. Marvelous staff Please have Henry Hidron give more classes ! He’s THE BEST TEACHER! We need more teachers like him! Too many classes aren’t challenging enough! Thanks! ..And they’re only 45minutes .. unlike several years ago when classes were one hour long and a lot more challenging!

I have recently visited the REGO PARK location and I found it quite clean and the staff members very professional. I enjoyed the new machines and the new flooring. It is one of my favorite locations in NYC. Never gets too crowded and I always find a machine available to work on. Thank you for the great job your team is doing! Keep it up!!

I’ve supported many gyms in the past without ever attending regularly and then not attending at all. Having Zach as my trainer three times a week makes all the difference. The only time I miss a session is if I am out of town. He works me hard and I feel great after each visit!

Constant price increases and they removed access to the studio room which was useful for stretching, doing ab workouts and warm-ups before a workout
The gym definitely got more crowded since they closed the NYSC in forest hills.
This gym is not terrible, but certainly not worth the cost especially when they cut off access to areas that you previously had access to.

Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere! The Rego Park location is grossly overcrowded, poorly designed, machines are often needing repairs and the locker rooms are disgusting. There is zero management presence and the facility is very poorly maintained.

Every third machine is broken. Save us all some time, just put signs on working machines and our workouts will go a lot quicker. The only thing that’s meticulously maintained is their printer for printing out all them out of order signs!

Machines are placed haphazardly and the layout doesn’t make any sense. The turf area takes up too much space and is grossly underutilized. The dumbbell room is one of the busiest areas yet confined to a crammed room with zero ventilation wreaking of body odor. There are sufficient power racks so the ridiculously large wooden platforms are a waste of space and trip hazard.

One easy fix is to buy more plates to address the ridiculous shortage, which has not been done. It’s very frustrating to have to search for plates and carry across the room to your machine. Each machine should be stacked with weights to avoid this annoying ongoing hassle. Also fix the lockers as every other one is needing repair.

This location is a notorious high school hangout. Way too many kids hanging around, loitering and monopolizing machines while on their phones. Management needs to be more proactive in addressing this major problem. And tripods should not be allowed on the floor for obvious reasons.

It is blatant management doesn't care. Something as simple as buying more plates, they are not willing to do. What is justifying the constant rate increases?

Great gym but my issue is ...they won't let you use multiple punching bags they have because they let some angry with their life patrons punch the bags and break it. So for a guy like me who just wants to stay conditioned and on my toes I can't use it to avoid breaking which I wouldn't. I offered to have someone monitor me but still no resolve so for that the gym gets a 2 star rating. Also spoke to current general manager and I still can't use punching bags

This gym needs to be shut down because of the management with Tyler and the bald guy. It went from terrible management to WORST!! I honestly prefer the previous manager who was also classified a snake by taking equipment from the gym and firing the staff that held him accountable.

These dudes (Tyler and Caillou/Bald Guy/) are never there and they keep increasing the price on a gym membership that does not have toilet paper, fake smile staff, broken equipment. I don’t get it. Is this the last way to make money for this location? My membership has been increased 3 or more times this year. I lost track. It honestly pisses me off with these automated “sorry for your experience we’ll do better” comments.

It was a good experience a year ago when I was paying around 35 dollars, but over time they kept increasing the membership price, reaching up to 67 dollars, which is excessive for what they offer. I know they are implementing reward programs, member challenges, and group fitness classes, but that's something not everyone at this gym is interested in, and I don't think it's fair to pay extra for something we won't use or benefit from. Also, machines break down every week, and it takes them a long time to fix them. Many of the pulleys feel old and aren't comfortable for an optimal workout. There are also only two ropes for the pulleys in the entire gym. These and other small things ultimately made me disappointed with this gym. Anyway, I think they could do better by not adding so many "extras" and focusing more on maintaining the facility. Thank you.

Year after my last review and nothing has improved, only the price has gone up.

Machines are consistently breaking and taking weeks to fix.
This location remains overcrowded.
There still aren’t enough basic dumbbells in the 20-45 range.
And the A/C is off more than on with the gym floor feeling like a sauna. This isn’t hot yoga.

Still better than Planet Fitness.

Was interested in trying out this gym since my bf and I are new to the neighborhood. I signed up online to claim a free pass on sept 30 and put our contact info in so we could try it out. Got a call from the gym not even 10 mins since we put our info in. Told them we will check it out when we get a chance. We came tonight oct 15 to finally check it out and the front desk people were NOT very welcoming. 2 guys and 1 lady, we got the tour from the lady. I actually was interested in checking out the gym, vibes, and amenities, but the staff made our in person experience unpleasant. We already got harassed by calls every other day to come to the gym, and when we actually wanted to check it out, they didnt even let us use the gym. Just toured us and kept asking for an email "pass" that they sent (if they sent any, which they didnt - since my bf and I only received phone calls every other day telling to come in to the gym and no actual emailed pass)

I know they can probably see on their file that they kept calling us and leaves us lots of voicemail for their "membership promotion," but why rude when we actually check out your gym?

Im writing because this is the only gym so far in my lifetime that has not let us trial the gym first. Even equinox and lifetime lets potential members trial.

I will not do business with this gym even though its one of the few in our neighborhood and I advice yall to not give your info to them unless you want to be harassed by sales calls.

As of 10/2025
The Rego Park NYSC has a myriad of new equipment peppered with the old.
Specifically, there is only one sled that has seen better days.
The staff are friendly enough.
Cleanliness of the gym is a plus, but all my kudos still go to my trainer, Shereen.
She is an awesome trainer who truly cares about her craft.

My first personal training session with Shereen at New York Sports Club / Rego Park was pleasantly beyond expectation!

I’ve never dealt with a club as dishonest and unprofessional as NYSC. When I signed up, I was told I’d pay a one-time joining fee of $79.99 and then $55 per month with the ability to cancel anytime. That’s it.

When i lost my credit card and requested a bank for replacement, they tried to charge the monthly fee on my old card and when the transaction didn't go , they started sneaking in hidden charges (like an unexplained “enhancement fee”) and then slapped on bogus “late charges” and “service charges” to inflate what should have been a $57 monthly fee into a $113.96 bill. When I asked for clarification, their responses were vague, inconsistent, and never matched what I was originally told. When i asked about justification of the additional fees they said we will waive all the fees and told i can pay only $57.

Worse, they kept sending me false reminders claiming they “tried to reach me” and I “didn’t reply” — when in fact, nobody ever called me. Now they’re even threatening me with extra collection fees over a so-called pending amount of just $57, despite the fact that I’ve already paid my dues.

This isn’t just bad customer service, it’s predatory and deceptive. Their entire approach is built on misleading members and bullying them into paying fees that were never clearly disclosed.

I’m not letting this go — I’ll take it all the way and see how it turns out. If you’re considering joining, think twice.

Henry is amazing! But there are members who attend his as well as other classes wearing headphones. It is disrespectful, disruptive and dangerous. All other heathclubs forbid their use during instructor run classes. NY sports club seems to think it is OK despite the potential for injury since the unwitting "not to bright " member has no clue what the teacher is saying! It's unbelievable!!! Also the women's locker rooms are not clean. The showers should be bleached and cleaned daily and rugs vacuumed constantly since there is hair everywhere!

The gym feels overcrowded with very limited space to work out, and access to equipment is quite restricted. Unfortunately, they closed the one room most women felt comfortable using, which leaves fewer safe options and can make the environment uncomfortable specially when older guys are staring when you are streching.. . . While the front desk staff is always friendly and welcoming, management is not very helpful and often shifts responsibility to ownership brushing off any request you might have. On top of that, you even need to sign up just to use something as simple as a yoga ball, which feels excessive.

This gym is absolutely disgusting. The hygiene standards are non-existent, and I actually ended up getting sick after using the facility. That should never happen in a place that’s supposed to promote health.

The dumbbell area is the worst — it reeks, like no one has cleaned or sanitized it in ages. The smell alone makes it unbearable, and the equipment is filthy. Clearly, management doesn’t care about keeping the place clean or safe for its members.

It’s unacceptable to pay for a membership only to deal with a dirty, smelly, and unhealthy environment. Until they completely overhaul their cleaning practices, this gym is nothing more than a health hazard.

I've been going to NYSC locations since 2016 and this location has become one of the worst locations I've attended. Over a year ago, they made floor plan changes and have currently locked the studio room, only available for use during classes. The gym's cleanliness is questionable or lacking and there aren't any towels/paper towels. As a woman, locking the studio is the last straw for me because it was a safe and private space for me to work out in after my warm up. In an already small gym, locking up this empty and usable space doesn't seem like the most strategic decision, especially given that certain equipment is constantly out of service.

NYSC Rego Park – Broken Promises & Dismissive Management

I’ve been an active member for years, but this experience has shown me that NYSC does absolutely nothing to resolve member concerns — even when their actions remove amenities we’ve always had.

Here’s what NYSC’s own team told me:
• Michael Lamberti (District Manager): “We do keep the studio doors locked during non-class hours… to help preserve the condition of the new flooring and equipment.”
– If that logic held, the entire gym should be closed to “preserve” it, since it all has new flooring.
• Tyler (AGM): “Since the CEO came in and enforced this policy, my hands are tied.”
– Translation: They’d rather follow a blanket policy than listen to paying members.
• Member Services: “We have made the decision to no longer allow access to the studio space outside of scheduled classes… We apologize but do not promote use of the studio spaces… for private use.”
– The studio has been available for years without issue, and members rely on it for privacy, safety, and comfort.

Instead of restoring access or offering meaningful compensation, they offered me:
• A complimentary “My Club Introduction” session (which I already had and never used).
• A transfer to another location (which ignores the issue entirely).

This isn’t about a small perk — it’s about removing a space that women, seniors, dancers, and members with sensory sensitivities need.

If you believe NYSC should restore private access to studio rooms — something they provided for years — please like this review to show your support.

Moved to this gym from the NYSC in Whitestone and I'm truly underwhelmed. While the Whitestone gym is much smaller, it was great to have the open studios and great locker rooms. In recent months, I have been told that the studios must be kept locked when classes are not in session. This is very disappointing when I was under the expectation that this is part of the amenities that I pay for. The website lists the studio as an amenity. The turf space is certainly not enough and people do use it for other kinds of strength training, so flexibility and mobility training that can happen in the studio, takes up useful space for other people working out. I will say that the classes are great but the space leaves much to be desired when they are also raising membership prices to $45 a month.

I’ve been an active member at the Forest Hills NYSC since high school, and I’m extremely disappointed with a recurring issue that management refuses to address. The renovated studio room is permanently locked whenever classes aren’t in session, and staff give conflicting or illogical reasons — such as “all locations enforce this policy” (which is false; the Glendale location’s studio is open), or concerns about equipment theft (equipment has been securely stored for years).

For many members, the studio is not just a workout space — it’s a safe, private area away from the crowded main floor. Women, senior citizens, and individuals with sensory sensitivities often rely on it to feel comfortable exercising. Now, people are forced into cramped turf areas or cannot do their workouts properly. My friend, who trains for professional dance, can’t even practice here because high kicks and turns aren’t possible on turf.

Locking this room alienates the very members who need it most. NYSC’s leadership seems to prioritize the possibility of a few stolen weights over the needs of its paying members. If they refuse to reconsider this policy, they should at least offer compensation for removing a promised amenity.

Until this is resolved, I cannot recommend this location.

Probably the worst gym I’ve ever been to, at least a third of the machines are always broken or out of order, dumbbells are always missing, it’s severely overcrowded, and the prices are going to be raised again, management only does their job when you don’t pay for your membership.. with the amount of money that they would charge me I’ve already gotten myself equipment at home. even the locker rooms have broken doors, this gym used to be decent years ago, but they started raising their prices more and everything just went worse from there.
if you’re thinking of switching to this gym, don’t waste ur time and money.

I was hesitant to sign up because of all the bad reviews but this is a good gym for the price. I typically workout 7:30-9am and usually have a pleasant time. You don’t have to wait for barbell and kettlebells but the machines can get crowded. I don’t use too many machines but you might have an issue if most your exercises are machine based. Treadmills have pretty quick turnover. It can get a little wild around 4pm with kids and people coming off work. Please get a glute hamstring raise or Nordic curl!

Despite repeated inquiries about the replacement of worn equipment, which staff had told me for over 3 months now is just “waiting to be delivered”, nothing new has appeared. Club staff has a very laissez-faire attitude about everything, and are rarely knowledgeable or helpful. I have made repeated requests that tissues be available throughout the gym; & advised about specific cardio equipment with issues (such as the “menu” function not working), & yet, again, nothing is ever done to resolve the issues. Machines should be checked at least once a week to ensure all functions are accessible. Additionally, now that the class studio is locked when not in use, I often have to go upstairs to “check out” hand weights and/or mats. Finally, I have frequently inquired about installing a scale in the women’s locker room, also to no avail. The Club needs to do better, or risk losing members!

Surprise: the hours just got reduced arbitrarily; closing time is now 8pm on weekends and 10pm on weekdays! Their later closing times was one of their biggest draws for me but now the crowded next door retro fitness has better hours (and is half as expensive too.) All the clubs reduced hours and services, supposingly bc Covid. The value is getting dramatically less for me bc this just cut 1/2-1/3 away of my time there. This is not better service or experience to me or likely those that depend on late hours the single most important factor for us. They apparently pay staff minimum anyway so if they do this to save money maybe this is the start of a death spiral. Hope not.

Update 10/24: it’s now 5 stars - hours improved to 11 weekdays so is comparable to, with facility/ staff better, than other gyms locally. I should have updated this earlier after the hours improved and they the gym floor.

Update 6/25: staff is great but still I was too generous with the stars. Many little peeves. Eg: the big group lesson room is still locked up after the last class apparently bc some items were missing. This then forces everyone to use the main floor which is already crowded and therefore likely dangerous as close contact is frequent. I usually do bear crawls (forward and backwards the length of the room) but now I can’t bc I’d run into people. If items were gone it’s v likely you are locking the barn doors after the horses have escaped. If not consider marking items with “property of ny sports” or locking up the weights.

The pedal on one rowing machine (closest to racks) is too loose to use- this has been reported two months ago and is still not fixed (it’s loose inside). Chains also need replacement (skips with heavy pressure) or lubricating.

Some of the equipment I use have to be signed out for - mats, yoga blocks, abs rollers or stretch sticks. It’s an inconvenience- frankly these are oldused and cheapo; is this really worth making everyone inconvenienced?

Recently detergent /soap is apparently sprayed on the floors (not just the bathrooms) making it pretty slippery here and there - such as on steps. This is dangerous.

Update July 1, 2025
Group exercise room still closed up immediately after a class causing dangerously overcrowded main floors that are frequently standing room only. Can’t you figure out how to open the space and maybe lock up or put stuff you fear will be stolen somewhere like a locker??? Fitness isn’t all about weight training - there’s mobility, balance, flexibility to work on (just google “fitness”).

The bike racks outside are frequently full and there’s e-scooters/bikes inside. As everyone knows lithium batteries can spontaneously burst and start firs so not a good idea indoors (illegal too). Where’s is the mythical door parking mentioned several times before???

Update 8/2/25:
Last SIX items - see 6/25 - still an issue!
On the plus side I was finally able to get into the app - apparently can sign up account again after some mysterious software mishap took me out.
In spite of posters saying “do not park bikes”at the entrance when I come after 6pm (because this place is super packed until after 8) theres typically a few the same electric scooters or Ebikes there anyway. This is dangerous from possible lithium battery fire which is why they are banned indoors as a fire hazard (why the club would risk a fire and legal liability is beyond me since this has been warned about repeatedly). The outside bike racks are sometimes packed. I can understand owners of expensive devices that don’t want then molested stolen or wet or don’t have a lock to want it inside. There’s sometimes 6 staff at the front desk at the same time I’m in and see this so that’s not an issue (unless walking up a flight is.) Do these have special permission? There’s so much space before the gym floors anyway why can’t some accommodations be made as was promised a year ago?

You have to unsuspend and pay the rest of the month, which they don't tell you. And you have to unsuspend randomly 5 days before to pay the least. Nothing is ever said by incompetent sales member and management and responsibility is never taken. Awful experience. 0 out of 5

Five stars only for the customer service that Mike Garcia, AM supervisor provides. Mike is incredibly professional, polite and customer service oriented. He addresses customers' concerns about the gym and any issues with the equipment. It's clear he takes his job seriously and has pride in his work. NYSC needs more staff like Mike!

If you're looking for a trainer who blends science, experience, and results — look no further than Chet. Whether you're just getting started or you're a seasoned athlete like me, Chet knows exactly how to meet you where you are and safely take you where you want to go.

As someone with previous injuries, I was hesitant to push too hard. But Chet’s knowledge of biomechanics, strength training, and certified expertise in stretching helped me rebuild strength, increase mobility, and move better than I have in years. Every session is tailored, intentional, and backed by real science — no guesswork.

If you want results without risking injury, and you want a trainer who truly understands the human body, go to Chet. He's the real deal.

This is the Rego Park gym of the New York Sports Club . Its right off of Queens Boulevard and convenient to the 67th Street Subway Station. Street parking can be hard to find- there are parking lots in the area. Its generally not too crowded and you can usually get the machine you want without waiting.. There are various classes offered though have been told (I don't take classes) that their is less than in many of the other branches.

The mens changing room is not exactly luxurious but it is clean and adequate, as is the steam room.

Location and not being too crowded are my primary criteria for a gym; these are big pluses for this gym and is the main reason I go to it.

Certain Medicare supplement plans will pay for membership in a gym like NYSC. I recently switched from paying directly to having my Medicare supplement plan pay for it. It's something to think about.

Great new machines, Rego Park place is much cleaner nowadays. Issue with the sauna:1) people enter with shoes that release harmful fumes 2) some play loud music with phones/players. Anything with lithium batteries could explode at high temperatures and could start a fire or release toxic smoke.
NYSC leads, are you waiting for this to happen to ban them?
The lawsuits will be very high.

The staff, trainers and instructors are all great. They are friendly and are very good at what they do. However, it takes forever and a day for upper management to get any repairs done. The men’s sauna door hasn’t been able to close properly in months. The bikes in the spin room always fall apart and don’t get repaired, which limits the class size. The clock is wrong in the spin room and there is always a problem with the sound system. There is always a cable machine or one of the cardio equipment that’s down. The gym has to be making a ton of money especially after the first hills location closed.

The gym is big enough to handle the volume and has every machine you would need. If repairs and maintenance were done quicker, I wouldn’t find a single problem with the gym.

Wow this is an improvement! It was about time to see a significant change, since I started working out here, has been over 2 years already. I was looking forward to see the replacement of some machines that were consistently broken, and I was never able to use. But to see all of this new machines that were brought in, it’s just amazing. Now this place feels very complete and I’m loving my workouts and my routine options with all the new equipment.
The one thing that might be able to still improve is the funny smell sometimes on the changing lockers.
But I’m extremely satisfied with this change, and I must say that the staff is always very friendly and welcoming!

Wow. What an improvement from a year ago!!! Love all the new machines. Def enjoy working out here now. Thank you!!!

********************

With the closure of the Forest hills location, this Rego park location has become so over crowded. Severe long wait times for machines. 8 pm on a weekday and it’s a jungle.
Too much people not only is a safety hazard but also makes you loose your pump. There are a few areas of the gym that has empty spaces, they should def utilize the area more effectively.

Machines are all over the place with no structure of organization. For example, When doing chest, instead of all the machines in one place, you have to go across the gym to find the relevant machines.
Variety and number of machines should increase. A huge wasted green space in the middle. Condense the space so you can add more machines.
A lot of work needs to be done hopefully it will get better soon

It would've been better if they didn't spam text, call and email me this entire time while I was under the assumption that the day pass would be FREE.

Edit** replying to owner:
No I literally went to this location IN PERSON and presented my free pass email + valid form of ID and was told that this location DOES NOT offer free passes due to renovations. I was told to buy a $20 day pass instead which is absurd.

This 5 stars rating is also for my personal trainer Michael P. I really appreciate how flexible he is so I don’t miss out on any training session. Thank you for making it possible for me to achieve my health and wellness goals in the past 16 months! I have been experiencing balance issue few years back and after continuous training, I see the impossible with Michael's encouragement and motivation to succeed. You see the possible and a strategy to get me there! When I feel exhaustion, you will say you can do it. Thank you for pushing me to achieve incredible results. Don’t let up on me, even if I beg you! Thank you for turning my “can nots” into “cans.” You’ve pushed me further than I thought I could go, and shown me that I can reach my physical goals if my mind wants it bad enough. I honestly don’t know what I would have achieved without your help. Although the workouts you create can be hard to get through sometimes, they've helped me improve my mind and strengthen core muscles. You are an asset to the club and the best of the best!

Take all the worst parts of NYC, crowded, rude people, smelly and dirty and put that in a basement gym in Rego Park and you have the Rego Park NYSC. I had hope when I heard this gym was renovated but also I would never go to this gym-except that my original NYSC gym closed in Forest Hills in 2024 and members who transferred and kept their memberships were given a deal on the monthly rate. Not even a year later and that price has been raised by almost $20, which add the final worst part of NYC expensive and not worth the price for the location. And then NYSC had to top off the worst of NYC with a worst of their own. They cut out classes with excellent instructors to save money! It’s been a terrible experience and not getting better. Sincerely from an active NYSC member since 2021, going to freeze my membership soon and try other places in the area. Any recommendations?

The 5 stars above are specific to my experience personal training with Terrence. He is one of the only reasons I’m still a member of the NYSC Rego Park location. I like to consider him a heavy hitter type of PT who has lots of experience and knows how to streamline his workouts based on the needs of each of his clients. My advice to Management is treat him well because the day he’s no longer there, many of us won’t be either. I am thrilled with my results so far; weight loss, increased strength and mobility along with no more knee pain. I look forward to continuing to work out with Terrence.

I had a disappointing experience with NYSC. I froze my membership for $5/month since I moved to another state, but they still charged me the full amount this month. When I called, they told me the freeze would only start next month—something they never mentioned when I originally set it up. Even after requesting a refund, they refused. Their customer service was unhelpful, and because of this, I decided to cancel my membership altogether. Definitely not the way to treat loyal customers.
