The facility is ok. Some of the equipment could be updated. They raise rates randomly then if you try to cancel, they lower them, only to raise them again several months later. Had it happen twice. Not very ethical business. I even had to block them on my credit card. Totally inconvenient as well. I wish they would have a total cost breakdown and honest pricing disclosure with rate raise warnings like a typical gym.

If you’re considering a membership here, please BEWARE that they make it IMPOSSIBLE for you to cancel. We are really struggling to get them to process a simple cancellation and are so disappointed with the shady things that go on behind the scenes at NYSC. They also ding you with a surprise $70 ANNUAL FEE ON TOP OF YOUR MONTHLY FEE. When you sign up it’s hidden in the fine print. Save yourselves and sign up with a different gym.

This was such a bad experience that we reported them to the Better Business Bureau.

If you become a member with NYSC make sure to check what they bill you every month. They will try to charge you for higher memberships, annual dues and late fees without confirming anything or having any signed agreements to reflect the higher charge. Late fees they will charge you even when you have the same active credit card on auto pay and try to argue with you when you reach out. Not worth your time or money since the gym is small, machines constantly aren't working and it's crowded.

Do not go here. They failed to cancel my membership in early 2018 and let it run for months after I directed them to cancel it. Then approached me nearly a year later requesting updated card information so that they could bill me. I had to email the same person 4 times to get my membership cancelled, and when they finally did, they attempted to bill me for an additional month OVER A YEAR AFTER THEY SHOULD HAVE CANCELLED MY MEMBERSHIP ORIGINALLY.

You can expect them to ignore your requests, then repeat over and over again how "they don't see any notes on your account" as evidence that you've never made any requests. Strongly considering retaining an attorney to recover the months I was billed for incorrectly.

I could not overstate how awful this experience was. The gym itself is in disarray, smells, has very limited space, and the equipment is broken more often than not.
Cancelling my membership was an absolutely ordeal, and after it had been cancelled they charged me twice more after not hearing from them for over a month.
I have no idea if this is a problem with this specific location or the franchise as a whole, but I wouldn’t recommend them.

I would give them a zero if I could. I called and email to cancel my membership so many times and they never responded or would say to call back and then they have the decency to call me for a β€œpast due” payment. I had my account on hold which they double charged me one month and they then took off and kept charging me monthly fees when I was not using the gym. They are so quick to take your money but when it comes to canceling they ignore your requests. Terrible customer service. Never returning.

I joined when they first opened, but went with blink instead for a few years. When I got annoyed with that thought I'd come back and wow what a decline. Soooooo hot, cardio equipment all needs.to be fixed, the towels need to be replaced, and a lot of people aren't cleaning up after themselves when they drip and cough all.over the equipment. I triple wipe everything now after getting the flu my first week of working out. Thankfully I'm only month to month so I'll be putting in that 45 day notice after 2 months... one spent sick....at the end of the month and move on to Ludlow.
UPDATE: I cancelled via certified mail and got a confirmation along with a $10 fee, which i wasnt expecting as a month to month, but small price to pay to move on.
I was completely grossed out this weekend when I noticed they were out of wipes for the machines on one floor. I walked downstairs to get some but I saw numerous people use, sweat all over, sneeze and cough all over equipment and just walk away... Im not sure if it was that or the super rough bleached towels, but I ended up with a rash in my eyes the next day. I already started bringing my own sanitizing wipes as back up after catching the flu my first week when they also ran out of wipes, but now i'm bringing my own towel in the last weeks before I leave. I will post another update if they try billing me.
UPDATE 2: i echo what everyone says about the Manager. She threatened to report me to collections after i cancelled in writing via certified mail. Illegal btw. Shame so much could be done here if NYSC would function UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT. Hello Ludlow!

Absolutely terrible. Customer service at the front desk is horrible. Signed up for a 10 day trial and was not told it would enroll in a month to month contract. Had to go in person to cancel and the manager couldn’t get the computer to work. The whole experience felt like a scam. BE CAREFUL before giving this gym your card. EDIT: They have fixed the platform as of January 2019 and I am giving them back a star.

Postives: They've extended their hours to 11pm on weekdays. They are also open early 5:30 AM on weekdays. The selection of equipment is comprehensive. Has a squat rack and a power rack on the 4th floor. Also it's conveniently located to where I live.

Negatives: The primary thing I used to use is the deadlift/weightlifting platform on the 3rd floor. It's been "temporarily" unavailable for almost a year. There's a threshold from temporary to permanent and this club is stretching the definition of "temporary. Second, they lost Femi the instructor on Saturday mornings. My girlfriend as well as many people loved his classes and the community he fostered. It used to be a struggle to get a spot in his classes. Now the Saturday morning classes have rotating, lackadaisical instructors who barely give you a workout.

I would give 5 stars but 2 stars are taken away for the unfixed platform and losing Femi.

Probably the first review for a business I’ve ever had to leave. Place has very lazy and unhelpful management. Equipment and A/C are often broken for months at a time. Ive seen them rope off entire sections of the gym for 4+ months because of things that could be literally fixed in 2 hours. Also place is always insanely crowded, although I’m not sure how that can be fixed.

This gym is terrible. Heat & A/C often broken for weeks at a time, making the temperature control a mess. Currently the heat is apparently stuck on high at all times. You can physically feel other people’s sweat in the air because it’s boiling in here with no air circulation. The AC was broken for over a month in the summer, when it was nearly 100 degrees outside; not only miserable, but unsafe.
Equipment is constantly broken and takes months for them to fix them.

10/10 would recommend literally anywhere else.

So much of the equipment is just broken with no intention of it being fixed, regardless of what the staff says. Worst of all though is that the entire 3rd floor, which has the most free weights, so the bench presses and all the treadmills, has a broken air conditioner. The entire floor is disgustingly humid with sweat and very hot. The smell is unbearable and it's been this way for 2 months now. When I called to ask when this would be fixed, the employee said he'd mentioned to the managers multiple times and they haven't bothered to fix it yet. The deadlift area has been out of order for months, the treadmills all have loose tracks that are extremely loud, the cardio bikes are jumpy and 1 of the 3 stair climbers has been out of order for months as well. I'm seriously considering cancelling my membership. Save yourself the headache and do not become a member here.

I will change this review once I get refunded the amount that was taken. I am repeatedly getting overcharged a rate 3x the amount to which I agreed to when signing up. I was refunded a partial amount of the charges and fees, and now again I was charged a 2nd annual fee when I have been a member less than a year? My request for refund was redirected to Michelle C. The areas by the windows are extremely hot, even the water fountain in the area is warm.
They need a better cooling system in those areas or even shades would help. Otherwise, more benches would be helpful since they always seem to be used. Overall good gym.

I went and asked for a day pass, which is 15 USD. The manager, Catherine Dulman, told me I could get a 10-day pass for 5 USD by signing up for a subscription and cancel within the 10 days if I didn't want it.

I emailed her the next day to cancel the subscription and never received a reply. I called several times and was lied to about the manager being out (similar to what other reviews indicate). I was charged a total of more than 100 USD before they finally cancelled my subscription. When I went by to ask to be refunded, I was told they'd look into it and refund me, but nothing ever happened.

I don't even live in New York, so this whole situation is completely ridiculous. I certainly would not recommend this place.

Very good gym for the price. Management were pushy for sales like all commercial gyms in NYC, staff were fantastic and friendly apart from that and kept the gym clean. Gym is spread across many levels. The first workout is reaching the changing rooms on the 5th floor. 2 squat racks and 1 platform, plus bars to deadlift in the functional fitness space. They should probably replace some of the machines with more free weights, benches and racks, as these areas seem to be busier. Annoying compliant is that the lights above some of the bench press area are very bright, it would irritate my eyes during the lift.

What is terrible is the customer service. I tried to cancel my membership as was moving away from the area. The staff told me that they had done it and I would receive a confirmation email shortly. Never received it so followed up and they again told me it was done. I repeatedly called the general manager (Catherine Dulman) to confirm but she never responded to any of my calls or emails. I left a message with the front office for her but she still did not respond. I have now just been charged a full next months membership when I notified them weeks away that I want to cancel! Absolutely terrible service with complete disregard for other people.

So much potential and so much disappointment. How do you have a new 4 floor gym in NYC and have it be like this . I was a member since they opened like 2 years ago and since then it just went backwards. At 7pm there are so many people there are few times that after I made it to the gym after a day at work I just turned around . The layout is horrible , things falling apart, staff is doing you a favor when they speak to you and cleaners are just walking around all day talking to each other and looking for places to hide (studio corner is the usual spot). Management doesn’t care as they don’t respond to any emails regarding the situation or any emails at all actually

I've been an avid gym goer for 14+ years and I have to say I'm completely disgusted with the customer service, lack of courteousness, follow-through, and it's sad because it's mostly coming from the lack of leadership, top down. While the front desk staff had tried to be helpful and try to accommodate and reach out to the Sales Manager Joel Patrick multiple times via phone call, text, notes, emails, and the like, for over a week since I tried to communicate with him both in person and over the phone, he failed to reach out with so much as a courteous phone call. He also had the audacity to try to be a coward and pass the buck to his own General Manager (I think her name was Kathy), who seemed to have no clue how to do it or what to do with my attempt at transferring my passport membership to their local gym instead. And on top of that, he had the nerve to come out his office when he sensed trouble (to perhaps try to defend himself and lack of professionalism) with a smirk and try to make it into a joke. Needless to say, I ultimately decided to keep my business elsewhere with my second gym membership I've had for years and just cancel my membership altogether!

They really need to train their managers on basic customer service skills and professionalism. I am a nurse and am usually calm, emphathetic, easygoing, and understanding, but they really are a total let down here at NYSC. I've been to others, but this is BY FAR the worst experience and gym I've been to. Hence, why I NEVER take the time to write reviews but I had to with this one! Pay attention to the reviews Googlers because I sure didn't before signing up!

My regular day for going there is Sunday afternoon and true to form it is a decent place to do a 2-hour workout.

My one major complaint is the excessive noise coming in the form of so-called music.

Nearly 90 to 95% of the folks who work out, at least when I am there, wear their own headphones, myself included.

And yet the music blasts, screams at you, through even noise cancelling headphones.

Ask one of the folks who work there( as I have often done) to please turn down or turn off the unforgiving sounds coming from the speakers in the ceiling,... and all you get is a shrug with him or her saying "we can't control it".

I wonder who the music is really playing for?

Since, again, most people who work out wear their own headphones and by doing that, are clear in that they wish to have their own music.

This would be a five-star place if they just didn't have any music.

It's a new gym. 4 floors and everything is brand new. Only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is no steam room and sauna which I love. Seems like the new trend at NYSC is not to have them anymore unfortunately.

Nice, clean, new gym. Crowd here varies from young to old, mostly younger. Staff somewhat helpful. Lots of cardio machines.

Dear NYSC,
I woke up at 5:45am to go work out at 6:15. I approach your gym to find a dozen grumpy people outside. Your gym was not open. Your hours clearly state that you open at 5:30am. Do you think this is how anyone wants to start their morning off? Especially those with the will and determination to begin their days with an early morning workout?? Rude.
