The Niagara Climbing Center is an INCREDIBLE climbing gym that punches FAR above its weight in route setting, community vibes, and training amenities.

Let's start with a climbing gym's core product - the route setting 🤩.

For the size of the gym, the NCC has rich variety of styles, from puckering balance slabs, tension-y face climbs, compression aretes, to overhanging big moves, all with thoughtful positioning and creative flow.

The intermediate/harder grades (V5+) are nuanced in their microbeta and sequencing, unlike many other gyms where "harder" = make the holds smaller / make the dynos bigger. It's clear that the NCC setters ❤️ their craft.

The friendly community at the gym is a standout too. You ask the gym staff about outdoor crags and they're pulling out their personal guidebooks to show you around. Or you strike up a convo with another member and by the end are trading #'s so they can loan you crash pads next visit. 😳

Or you're working a problem and need beta, and ask the front desk staff (who's also a setter) and they come over to personally coach and cheer you on. And maybe set a downclimb jug *just* for you after watching you panic at the top lip. 🙈 You get the idea, it's good vibes all around.

For training, NCC has a Kilter board, Tension/Beastmaker hangboards, campus board, full set of dumbbells, and a squat rack w/enough plates for your 300lb+ DLs. Oh, and a loading pin for your no-hangs and dip belts for weighted hangs. 💪 While they removed the ropes after their remodel, the gym is uncrowded enough that you can easily do circuits during a weeknight.

We've been to over 25+ gyms across the country, including major metro areas with huge climbing communities and access. The NCC is honestly in our top 3. No more driving downtown to train. 😜 Thanks to the staff -- Douglas, Sam, Joe, and Jan for an awesome visit. Can't wait to see y'all again when we're back in town!

Took my 5 year old and 4 year old rock climbing for the first time here. I know nothing about rock climbing but Douglas explained everything and helped the kids get started. Everyone had a blast. Will be back.

We love it here! There kids club is so much fun. Douglas is the life blood of the program. My daughter and her new club friends have learned so much from him. They aren't typical sporty girls, but they are thriving under Douglas's direction. We would love to see even more kids programming and opportunities under Douglas's direction!!

Max and I were beyond humbled to come in first and second in the climbing comp today. We couldn’t have done this without Lucas’ advice. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have gotten that V3 last week. Additionally Mr Miyagi’s slab on slab off training routine has given me exceedingly good balance and feel for the wall. Finally, I would like to thank Bo for all of the motivation along the way. Mr. ulder was instrumental in keeping me engaged while times got rough. Bo ulder is like a father to me.

We booked the party room and had 22 climbers.
It was AMAZING. the staff were not only super nice, friendly, caring and helpful but never made us feel like we were an inconvenience. We hot 2 sheet pizzas (and im glad I did) the party room was clean and plenty of chairs and space. I was pleasantly surprised cause I've never seen it before.
We were there from 3-6pm. Some kids got tired on an hour others thought we should have had it for another hour or two. Guess it just depends on your kids stamina.

But the staff worked with us so we'll and they were just amazing.
Thank you niagara rock climbing center for an awesome day. We're already booking the next one.

We took our Texas grand-kids to the climbing center as an early Christmas gift. Douglas check in the kids and gave him some great tips and tricks on how to reach the different holds. He was very patient and friendly with everyone in the center. Our grand-kids ask every time they are in WNY to go to the Niagara Climbing Center. Thanks for having a great place for people to climb.

We had my son's 6th birthday party there on a Saturday morning and it was absolutely perfect! The party room is exactly what we needed for the group, they're reasonably priced, and the staff was wonderful with the kids - many of them had never climbed before! And a group of twelve 6 year olds is always a bit hectic, but they were wonderful. We'll certainly have more parties here in the future!

Love the Niagara Climbing Center. My daughter thoroughly enjoys her Thursday evening kids club, and my boys and I like hitting the walls occasionally, too.
We've had birthday parties there, which were always excellent and also done both easy scout nights and the merit badge program.
Staff is always friendly and accommodating and more than willing to offer advice on routes and techniques.
If there's any downside, I feel like it's gotten quite costly. My boys and I previously used a family membership and thought of starting again but it's just beyond my budget, and our occasional climbs are twenty five bucks a person plus another few bucks if anyone needs to rent shoes. I know my boys and their gfs would go more often, too, but it's a lot of money to drop like a hundred and fifty bucks to get the family in for an I think it used to be more like fifteen, and that's more doable.

New to the area and looking for something indoors to do, so brought my 8yo here. Lucas was SO kind and patient. There was another worker there who climbed and talked to my daughter for 10 minutes when she "got stuck" climbing and was scared to let go of the wall and come down. Thank you to that guy!! Because of that, my daughter cooled down for a few and tried again. She loves it so much, I know we'll be back very soon. Plenty to do for all ages and experiences.

I use to come here as a kid. And I recently brought my kids here. Age 8 and 13.
They LOVED it. The staff is very knowledgeable and explain everything. We brought a large group (14) of us. We paid off so that some could climb others blade ( held the rope for the climber).
There were plenty of walls so we weren't standing around waiting. And the cave is new from when I was there last. Nice touch.
I am so happy and excited to plan our next visit.

This place is a gem! NCC has stood the test of time, providing high quality family entertainment for a couple decades. I highly recommend having children's birthday parties here. I bought a pass bundle last year and confirmed with the worker that they wouldn't expire since I didn't know the next time I would be back. I tried going back to use the pass yesterday and the 2 front desk workers literally laughed in my face about the passes being expired for several months now. I was very put off about their behavior and the original guy lying to me about the passes not expiring. I wasted ~$100 on them. I will be taking my business to central rock gym instead.

We can't even begin to tell you how grateful we are to the staff of Niagara Climbing Center. Our daughter's birthday party was at the center, and the staff handled everything perfectly. The kids had an absolute blast and some of the adults climbed as well. The party room was nice and big and the staff took care of all the arrangements including ordering pizza for the party. 10/10 would do this again next year. If you are looking for places to do a birthday party, we highly recommend them.

Let me start off by saying we had a blast. My daughter turned 10 and we had her party here. Everybody at the gym was so nice and helpful we were beside ourselves. I used to climb there when it was lumber city Rock gym and it’s been over 25 years since I tried. one employee in particular really made my day.Koi Showed me around and taught me the different sections to climb. And let me just say it brought back a lot of good times of when I used to climb. I was so hyped in fact I bought a chalk bag for my daughter and I and when I got home bought a pair of shoes lol. We will be back and again thank you to everyone for making my daughters birthday great. I highly recommend this place for Not only the facility and how cool it is but its members staff That brought the kid back out in me

This place is my JAM!
The vibe is chill and so are the people.
The climbing is meditating while exercising.

Since I posted this the gym has changed. I think the route setters need more time to set, it seems like they only get a few hours to set when it takes a full day. Would it be possible to close off the new set wall for an entire 24 hours for the setting process??

We brought our two nephews here and they had a blast! This was inexpensive fun on a rainy Sunday afternoon, and they climbed for several hours which got all of their energy out. The facilities were clean, and staff friendly- while I did not try and climbing myself, the rock walls seemed to range in variety and complexity which should keep all ages entertained. Would definitely come back and do it again, we even saw them changing some of the designs and holds so the climbs are constantly evolving.

Went with my young family. We all were masked. I signed waivers for all my children because they’re all under age 9. After doing paperwork, they tell me they ‘can’t verify if we have covid or not’. They couldn’t verify if any of the patrons had/has covid and pretty sure you can’t verify ANYONE has covid but we’re masked. Attendant refused to contact owner/manager but calls police. Owner miraculously arrived as we leave. Pretty sure there’s some healthy racism happening here as our family is visibly middle-eastern and was in traditional dress. Way to go Tonawanda. Way to go Niagara Climbing Center. Gross.

Samantha the party coordinator did such an amazing job! She really made my son’s birthday party special. She was approachable, vivacious, and really gave all the kids a great time. Great place to climb at! There are lot's of bouldering problems & they have recently created a climbing cave (bouldering problems on a low ceiling)! NCC has a great vibe too. The staff is very friendly, the music is great & the walls are wooden which gives an authentic style to the gym! Go climb at Niagara, it's better than the large chain climbing gyms that are popping up in every city. This place has style!

I planned my son's 7th birthday party here. I called and set it up the first part of Nov and his party was the 1st weekend in Dec. I advised that all the party rooms are upstairs. I let them know that his grandmother that is attending the party cant do stairs and is there anything they can do. I was told he would speak to his supervisor and call me back. I waited 3 days with no response. I finally called them back and after being put on hold several times that yes they could accomidate me if I changed the party from sat to sun and from 1-3 to 1230 to 230. Ok fine I reschedule everything and move forward. I call the week of the party to co firm and they again told all was good. I arrive 1/2 hour before the party time on Sunday only for the guy to tell me he has absolutly no idea about it. Ut was in the computer , but they dont have rooms donwstaris to do a party. He went and got the manager and she was helpful and trying to make sure it was handled by telling me we could do it upstairs cause there is an ELEVATOR!!! Why was this not to gold to me in the beginning. The staff at that point was helpful and making sure the party went well, but then processed to insult me by giving me a buy one get one coupon that expied in 2 days after the party. I paid the entire bill that was owed, as I didnt want them to think I wanted anything for free but damn you can atleast offer. I got nothing. I would not recommend this place just based on poor customer service.

Summary: For when you really want to boulder, it's the only option and a decent spot. Don't expect too much in the forms of textured walls and dihedrals coloring the walls with fun problems.

The Good: Friendly staff, well priced, and they make the most of what they have for space and materials. The bouldering problems were laid out well and it wasn't too crowded when I visited over thanksgiving break.

The Bad: I wouldn't call this a climbing gym unless you're 5 years old. The walls are about 20 feet tall. They have a nice lead overhang area but if you're used to large walls this will feel more like a high ball bouldering problem. If you've gone to other climbing gyms with walls made by the like of Walltopia or similar, this place will feel more like your friend's homemade wall with plywood and taped holds.

I'm not sure how people can give this place 5 stars, but considering there are apparently no other "climbing" or bouldering gyms in the area, it may just be due to lack of options.

NCC has come a long way. They have done a lot of remodeling and the walls look great. They bought tons of new holds and installed a new central heating and cooling system. Two years ago I climbed there because they were the only climbing gym in town. Now I climb there because they have become a great bouldering gym.
