Couldn't be more grateful to the OTF team at this location: they have supported my father to the incredible recent milestone of 1,000 classes, in the face of a difficult health diagnosis; they got my wife and I in great shape before our wedding; and they always check in with us outside of class. Special shouts out to Coach Alex, who's been in the trenches with us through thick and thin.

I normally LOVE orange theory, but this locations customer service is the worst of them all. I called to sign up myself and my fiance for a membership here, and told them in a month we may want to transfer our memberships to the Stamford, CT location. They said that wouldn't be a problem and to just let them know.

After a month, we realized we were only going to the Stamford location, and decided to call 39th st the day after our bill date to transfer our membership and adjust our monthly price as we were also being overbilled by $40/month. I was told "No, we don't do that. You would have to cancel with us, in which I can make this past bill yesterday your last one though. I'm going to make a note for the store manager to call you" I said I'd like that and if they refused, I would just dispute with the credit card company and we would evaluate whether or not we will even be continuing our membership in Stamford, but we are done at E 39th st.

Come to now (November 3rd), and I was billed AGAIN. In addition, I was AGAIN overbilled by $40 if we were even keeping those memberships. I called and was told that no one ever canceled my membership, and that I should expect YET ANOTHER BILL after this one. I was again told that they operate completely independently and cannot transfer or sign me up for the Stamford location (fine, wish I knew that in August when I signed up as I would have signed us up in Stamford to avoid this whole mess), and that she will AGAIN leave a note for her manager to call me.

LESSON: do not sign up for this location unless you are an avid OTF goer who lives close by. They are more than happy to take your money and promise you the sun moon and stars, but it's like pulling teeth trying to cancel and get your well earned money back. I am filing a report with the BBB and the FTC as the way this company operates is obscene.

I was in NYC from Jacksonville FL for 6 days last week. I was so blessed to find this OTF studio at East 39th. From the front desk team (Shayla and others) to the coaches (Alex, Brian and King Hancock)…they all welcomed me and coached with excellence! I am a 6-7 day/week OTFer and this studio is one of my favorites!!! I took 6 classes while I was there! Thank you! I will be back!

This gym is just special. It’s so hard to find a community type environment in the city but this location does it. The people who work at the front desk make it a point to learn your name and are so friendly and helpful. When my friend who I came with was moving to Florida, they made her a goodbye sign and left it on her rower- it was so incredibly sweet- above and beyond! Winter is also an amazing instructor and pushes me but at the same time is so sweet and will always check in on me if I’ve missed a week. It’s just very inclusive and welcoming- Overall I love this gym!!!

I was initially very pleased with the services provided here at OTF on 39th. The staff were friendly and professional, and the coaching was fun.
However, upon deciding that I wanted to focus less on Interval training and more on weight training, I elected to cancel my membership. No avenue exists to cancel except via phone. I called to cancel, and management tried to convince me to "suspend" my membership (which I agreed to do, in case my weight training didn't work out for me). I was told by management that I could suspend for 2 months and cancel at any time within that period (no penalty or further charges). I even specifically asked if I had a duty to inform IN ADVANCE that I would be cancelling during the 2-month suspension of my account. I was told I did not have to. It turns out, in my haste to meet the 30-day deadline for the following month, I signed the suspension agreement and returned it to OTF. That the document says I have to notify staff 30 days before that I intend to cancel (which I thought I had done on April 10th) essentially making this a "suspension" for a month, not two.
The lesson here is this - You CANNOT trust what is promised to you on the phone by the management here. They're inducing you to whatever they can to continue to charge you for services you will not use. Even when I called in to cancel, they "offered" to not charge me for following month (even though I'm "successfully cancelling" 30+ days before that date!!). Wish this had worked out differently but it was predatory in the end.

Not for the actual class, it was a good workout! More on the customer service - beware if you're signing up for their promotions, they often have tricky details to understand! I wanted to transfer to this studio but was on a promotion to get a free month in my original studio. However after waiting TWO WEEKS for a response (and i was the one chasing this response the entire time!), they tell me they won't honor the promotion - which was advertised nationwide on their website!! They don't seem to value their members or find solutions to honor promotions at all.

Find a studio or a gym that'll treat their members and eager prospective members better.

Stay away from this place ! They say it’s month to month, but at the moment I was signing up it was 2 months minimum suddenly . Ok,I told them that I I will be cancelling right after 2 months. Then at the end of February I said I am moving and though I was charged March fee I was ok since it was the agreement. I called today and was told that I will be billed for April cuz of their β€œ 30 day cancellation β€œ . Bunch of crooks, and the classes were very mediocre, not worth the money or time. Save your money, time and nerves. So many better and honest options in NYC

Never write reviews and this review isn’t about the class itself (it was a good sweat) but this was a terrible customer experience for me. The staff members were not helpful in rectifying a class credit situation. Not professional and were actually laughing when I came out of class asking if they had luck calling the other location to refund my credit. Customer service is everything - I definitely wouldn’t return to this location.

There are very few things that I will wake up before 6am for and for the last year OTF E39 has kept me coming back for more before the sun is up! The coaches are committed to making things fun, exciting and impactful. No two days feel the same and you can really create your own journey with the OTF format. Big shout out to the front desk crew as well who amazingly are also smiling no matter what the time! Try it and you won’t be disappointed.

My home studio is awesome! The format is challenging and very rewarding. The coaches are caring and amazing! For example, coach Alex is very encouraging and complements me on how much I've improved since starting OTF. In fact, he gave me the skills to help me move from a walker to a jogger, which I've also been using to inch closer to runner. Also, when I tweeked a muscle in my hip he came over to make sure I was alright and gave me pointers on how to stretch it out. Coaches Preston, Brad, and 1Winter are new since I've come back to this studio, and i cannot say enough good things about them! What great additions to the E39th team! Very caring!
Can't thank them and OTF enough for #morelife!

First off, the coaches at E39th Street in NY are the BEST. I have been to a lot of other OTFs and they are the most motivating and friendliest. They make it so you enjoy coming to class every, single day. Not to mention, the staff at the front are the friendliest people. Sometimes, I want to take class just to see them. I love that the workout can be modified to fit your level of fitness. Some days you want to go harder than others, so it is easy to scale back if needed. I really enjoy the challenges because they make you have a goal to work towards. I have brought in 5 new members and all have enjoyed it and have had great results. Staff and members make it so it is not an intimating atmosphere like other workout classes. I highly highly recommend Orange Theory Fitness.

I used to go to OTF in SF and it was a much better experience. The instructors were more inspiring and involved and the music was much better. The 39th ST location’s classes have bad music. Please stop playing teeny bopper music and play real workout music like Peloton, Barry’s and SoulCycle. Please play more hip hop - not Taylor, Madonna and BeyoncΓ©.

Motivating and friendly staff that made my first class with Orangetheory Fitness a great one!
Appreciate the way they go over the concept of the workout beforehand, teach you the proper techniques during the class and also review your results after the class. The summary email of your workout is also an added bonus. The place is clean and has showers. After my first class, I felt great even the next day. Signed up for a membership and would encourage others to do the same if you’re looking for something new, high energy and high intensity that allows you to adjust to your fitness level. You do have to purchase their heart rate monitor for $109 to be able to see your progress on the screen during the workout. There is an option to rent. The memberships are month to month and I’ve noticed the 6:15 pm classes tend to be full so you’ll need to book ASAP!

I was hesitating between giving it a 3 or 4 stars, but went for 4, as this schizophrenic workout and fake science is personally not for me. But the trainers and facilities are excellent. So more in detail now:

The pros: clean gym with excellent equipment. Most of the trainers I took class with were high energy and were really motivating. Music was great. You get free towels, there are 3 toilettes and 4 showers to change, though can get quite busy in peak hours. Overall it is a good HIIT. I definitely sweat and burnt calories. The gamification of the workout can be motivating as well.

The cons: I know they say the workout is driven by science, but I feel it is driven by profit and how many people can you squeeze in a class. The workout is split into 2 parts: 1 - treadmills and 2 - rowers / plyometrics and weights. My problem is that you do not do anything right. The rowing part is a sad joke. I have not seen such bad rowing technique and am questioning what's the point of including it there. The treadmills are treadmills. They never excited me. The whole "run one minute and increase your speed for the next minute" type of exercise makes me so bored I start to do my to do list for the next day. The floor exercise is fine and probably the only decent part. The problem is that the trainer is juggling in between the two parts and cannot correct or explain anything sufficiently. Also the whole monitor thing I feel is a scam. On the screen I saw people burning 900+ calories in a class, which I am sorry, but sure.. .it is far away from the most intensive classes I've taken and I barely burn 700 in other classes. Outside of the trainers (great), the rest of the staff is bored and apathetic, but that doesn't matter.

So overall, I bought a 10 pack of classes and hate the workout. Trainers are great and if this workout makes sense for you, go ahead.if I would compare it, would be similar idea to Rumble and Barry's. For me, there will be no 11th class.

This OTF is a disgrace to the brand. I gave this location MULTIPLE opportunities to make a situation right and they chose not to do ANYTHING except never return phone calls. I have an unlimited monthly membership and have gone to studios all over the US with no problem. I went to this gym and signed the form.

Walking into the class, the desk person asked to see me afterwards. I figured she couldn't find my home gym info. I went back up after the class and the assistant manager told me I needed to pay $20. I told him if I had known before I would have worked out at the hotel gym. He said that's the way we do things here. I asked to speak with a manager, but there was not one there. He said he would have her give me a call.

One week later after never receiving a phone call, I called again. Same guy told me someone would reach out. 4 days later, never heard anything so I called again. They transferred me through to a "manager" who pretty much said she would not do anything and the staff probably "forgot" to mention it even though they had plenty of time to remember as I filled out the standard intake form.

Seriously, such a disgrace this gym is affiliated with OTF. I love the gyms but feel so angry. I pay over $160 for a monthly fee and this gym hid fees until it was too late to change my mind. Horrible business practices and customer service.

I'm writing this review so late because I finally feel comfortable enough to talk about this.
In August of 2018, I took my third class at Orange Theory. I was just getting back into working out after an injury and started getting back into working out, and Orange Theory seemed perfect and was on my way home from work. I paid to borrow their heart rate monitors for 2 of my classes: one for the chest and one on the arm. Both times, the heart rate monitor turned off 3 minutes into class and took me off the board. The first time I talked to an employee and they said the armband wasn't charged so the battery died midclass. He was kind and apologetic.

The second time, however, the chest monitor stopped working early on as well, so I went to an employee to tell her about it after class. She (a blonde, white, slim woman) checked the band and said I must have been mistaken about it not working, I replied that all I knew is that there was no heart rate registering on the board next to my name. She then explained to me that these heart rate bands typically don't work on fat or large people, and it was due to my excessive weight it didn't work. I was shocked and so deeply hurt. Not to say that I'm skinny as a stick, but I am a varsity collegiate athlete. I train 3 hours a day, six days a week, all academic year round. I wouldn't say I was as fat as she explained to me that I was. I have used many cheat heartrate monitors independently and I have never had a problem.

I am disgusted by the words said to me by this Orange Theory employee. I ensure you I will never go back to any Orange Theory branch. I will never recommend Orange Theory to anyone, and I will shout this story to the rooftops. It is unjust, wrong, and hurtful. To call a customer too large and too fat to participate in your gym/workout class is unforgivable and unreal. Each time I see an Orange Theory commercial, I feel sick. This experience hurt and embarrassed me more than I can express, especially because it was witnessed by the entire class and the athletes waiting to enter the following workout.

I wish I could get all of my money back. I wish I never even tried Orange Theory. I wish that this employee or any other at Orange Theory understands how reprimandable it is to call someone too fat and too large at a gym priding itself on providing a healthy workout. I dearly hope this will never happen to any other patron.
Shame on you. Shame on this whole branch. I was and continue to be hurt and disgusted.

Love OFT. It's like a meal prep kit for workouts. All the ingredients, all the instructions. Just show up and do it and get the results. ONLY issue keeping me from 5 stars is the instructors' body shaming: "Oh you ate so much yesterda,y better burn it off today," or "Know you're gonna party this weekend! Better burn calories!" That kind of eye-rolling talk ... so destructive to achievement and personal development -- it's just evil! -- but the workouts really work for fitness.

The absolute worst costumer service experience I've ever had !! I almost never write reviews, but felt I needed to write one for this situation.

I, an OT member, went to a class at this location (it's not my home studio) on my birthday with my sister (who is not a member). Two days later, we were charged $55 without any type of warning. OT advertises that your membership is valid at any of their locations without additional charges and that first timers may take a class free of charge.

So when I saw the charges, I called and spoke to the studio manager, Renata, to ask her what the charges were about thinking there was some type of confusion. She proceeded to tell me that the Manhattan location does things differently and that I should of known that I would get charged regardless of if someone told me or not. HOW was I supposed to know of charges in advance if the website says absolutely NOTHING about additional fees and no one had told me when I booked the class over the phone, before we took the class that morning, or even after we took the class ? There were 3 opportunities for someone to tell us we were getting charged, yet no body ever did.

I asked her for the corporate number. At first she said she didnt have one. I expressed how weird it was for her not to have corporate's number considering she's a studio manager. Then, she said she was too busy to give it to me at that moment. When I offered for her to call me back with the info (since Orange Theory does not have their corporate number nor email on their website), she said there's no reason for her to call corporate since she would add a complimentary class to my account. After I told her I did not care to have the comp class and just wanted corporate's number, she said verbatim, "Find it elsewhere because I'm not giving you the number. BYE" and hung up on me.

My issue is not that I Iost $55 by any means. My issue is that a company cannot:
1. charge you without telling you ahead of time
2. then dismiss you when you kindly confront them about it.

I've been charged for other things randomly before by OT but since they were much smaller charges, I never cared enough to call and inquire about them.

The shadiest company I've ever dealt with, honestly. And Renata has no sense of customer service experience whatsoever.

They push you to what they see you are capable of. Also, no two days are the same; it is constantly being switched up! The staff at my particular OTF are also amazing, professional, kind and fun. #LOVEOTF

I love coming into the studio wondering "how will I be challenged today?"

The staff and coaches at E39 have gotten me excited about my fitness journey. I feel a part of a community that cares about us and I always look forward to going to the gym (says no one ever haha) That’s OTF. For those of us that show up to work hard and be our best, strongest selves inside and out, it’s fun and meaningful.
