I did two classes here during my holiday in New York and loved it! I was made to feel welcome by the front desk people and shown around - clean bathrooms with showers too, which I used after each workout. Special thanks to Laura for her high-energy class and no BS approach.

Whether your goal is to compete or just get in great shape, start training with Julian. I started private training at the beginning of the year (with intentions to compete) and I’ve seen incredibly fast improvement in my overall athleticism and boxing technique. He combines technique, HIIT and strength training in private sessions. His training style is methodical- he prioritizes general fitness for beginners, then moves on to correcting flaws in form. He recognizes what areas need improvement and always comes with multiple exercises and drills to correct bad habits. Boxing is not easy but Julian makes it fun. He is tough but funny and genuinely cares about making you a better boxer. Also good playlist.

I took a class with Laura and she’s a great instructor. I liked how at the end she gave us a bit of a talk about mental health and it’s importance. But since it was my first boxing class, some parts went by a bit fast so I think it would be great if they have different classes based on levels such as beginners, intermediate or advanced (if they don’t already have that).
Also i thought there would be less calisthenics exercises and more boxing exercises or partner drills.

Found this on class pass and glad I checked it out. Probably on the hardest boxes class I took but it was fun! You will sweat a lot and feel amazing afterwards; the instructor was amazing

Found this place on classpass with a friend. Great way to work up a sweat

You don’t need to be a pro to get started here. They’ll give you the boxing gloves just bring wraps or workout gloves (like for pilates).

I've been going to this boxing gym for about 6 months and have had classes with Adriel, Julian, Pete, Laura, Sydney, and Reggie. I most often go to Adriel's class. He's especially warm and welcoming to everyone and takes extra time with new people to make sure they're learning technique in a safe manner and having fun. He also will do mitt work with the class which is a treat! Overall the gym is great, they really do a lot to foster a community there. All the staff and regulars are friendly and there to answer anyone's questions. Yes, boxing can be intimidating, but the instructors there really work with you to keep you engaged. Definitely worth all 5 stars!

It's a cool place to do cardio but probably not for serious boxing type. Haven't been to enough class to judge if they good or not for learning real boxing skills. Rating it only from a fitness class perspective. That said, dim lit basement workout is prolly not for everyone, I found it quite packed which I wish to have more room to practice. Overall the staff and instructor are friendly ppl to enjoy a nice workout

Awesome workout. Great vibes, community, music. Go downstairs for iconic underground work -- equal parts bag and plyo. Do the upstairs "ring work" class to focus on form and technique -- lot of bag, mitt, partner work. Good workout regardless of what you choose. Friendly to beginners but can also go very hard.

Note: bathrooms/showers are a little tight but you're not going here for that.

Adriel + Julian are great coaches.

Such a cool vibe! I took a class on Saturday morning at 10:15am and there were around 20 other people in the class, a good mix of girls and guys. The studio had multiple floors and the class was in the basement. The locker room was on the 2nd floor, but bring your own lock for it. Overall liked the studio and the class.

Where milquetoast hipsters go to feel tough as they wail on a duct-taped heavybag in a deliberately dingy basement (so much authenticity!). You'd think with all the money they charge they'd at least give the place a fresh coat of paint. If you actually want to learn technique and fundamentals go to the numerous other gyms in NY where they care more about boxing than fight club aesthetics and "plant-based community fridges".

I started coming here about a month ago and now I’m a regular. From all fitness classes with the boxing concept that exist in NYC “Overthrow Boxing” is the most authentic one. Classes are fun, time flies when I’m in it. If you are a beginner I’d recommend to take a few private classes to learn the technique so you can practice it in the classes. Love this place.

Warning—if you are not a fan of tough love, of getting dirty, and of pores you didn’t know existed sweating and muscles you did not know you had aching, then Overthrow might not be for you. BUT, if you are a fan of being pushed to be faster, better, and stronger—mentally and physically—then Welcome Home. I’m so happy I found Overthrow during these last few years. I had boxed before at what I now realize was a fairly bougie gym but damn, walking into Overthrow is grunge paradise. The instructors do not come to play so be prepared to move and keep moving—especially with Laura. There’s lots of good instructors there, but I walk into her class every time with a smile, full well knowing I’m about to get my arse handed to me. Lots of people can stand at the front of a class and shout combinations, but Laura is the kind of teacher who makes you want to show up and always try harder. She will teach you power, pride, and perseverance, so come to Overthrow and see for yourself.

I really like the philosphy here. It's clear that all the instructors are disciplined. I've taken classes with Pete, Julio, Queen, Julian, and Blaise. They've all got their own flair and good playlists, but I really appreciate that they all emphasize basics and form. For example, Pete is a pro fighter who trained with Mayweather's coaches. It shows in the way he builds you up as an athlete and fighter. I feel like I can push myself here with a lower chance of injury.

update: Great to have Dan back, and Reggie and Ronnie are new to me. They are all great coaches. You can tell they like teaching and coaching. I started here in 2019, and it's been nothing but good folks and good workouts

Definitely bring your own gloves, wrap, and lock if you plan on using the lockers. Wraps are $10 at the studio, the gloves will make your wrapped hands smell like feet that were in wet shoes for a 1, and lock *rentals* are $2. Water is also $2 a bottle.

Overall the class I took was very fun. QUEEN was super good at giving tips throughout and I thoroughly enjoyed a good cardio workout, while learning to punch better. Would definitely come again, with my own things this time.

Awesome workout - Been once and need to go back. An NYC original. Also the spot where you’ll see people snapping photos and taking selfies. Fabulous downtown edge and vibe. They also have a line of gym clothing and some variable options for classes!

I did the Ringwork class...great workout, and Sergio did a good job of keeping class moving while helping individuals on form and technique... very fun and energetic atmosphere... definitely more personality than many of the other boutique boxing gyms in Manhattan. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is that the bath-rooms / changing areas were pretty tiny and cramped. Not much could be done about that given the location I imagine.

- Instructor was very high energy, but confused the class by conflating steps with move sequences (e.g. She would say "one two three four" rather than "jab, cross, lead hook, cross", etc.)
- The equipment was ok, but the gloves stink to high hell. No doubt some MRSA strains growing up in there. You guys need to buy baking soda by the truck load, because your gloves are absolutely disgusting.
- The instructors stage wasn't well lit, which made it very difficult to see what she was demonstrating.
- The class we very high paced, but there was little info given on timing.
- They have air conditioners, but they do nothing
- They have fans, but they're off.

All in all a very promising setup.

Spectacular workout, but pricey. Classes are structured like fitness classes to appeal to their target demographic and make you inclined to buy a package, but the instructors are motivating, as is the music they play. The look and feel of the place is very unique and gives it a hip, edgy vibe. If you're looking for an authentic boxing gym, this is not the place. You will definitely feel cool here, though, if that's your goal, and it is definitely part of what is being sold.
