I’ve been doing privates with Chris for 3+ months now and thoroughly enjoy and appreciate our sessions. Chris & Ana have truly created a safe space for their clients to learn the art that is Pilates. Highly recommend!! Please take this review as a sign to inquire about session =]

Ana And chris are amazing. I have been attending weekly classes for a year. It feels great to breathe, stretch an get a workout with great instructors in a calm environment. Ana and chris encourage you to explore and try new positions. I did not realize my shoulders were tense until Chis relaxed my shoulders with his gentle hands. I am a registered nurse. Now throughout the day I stop to relax my shoulders and take a cleansing breath. I owe my decreased stress to Chris and Ana.

Ana and Chris are a godsend. For over 30 years I hunched over a desk and a computer, resulting in severe forward head posture and pronounced hunched back. The last four years I have had constant dizziness, almost 24/7, facial and shoulder numbness, headaches, and tripping as I walked. All medical testes showed I was healthy. I became very concerned about not seeing my grandkids grow up. So, my doctor recommended pilates, as it would provide whole body exercise approach, that could lead to healing. Pilates in the Heights was in the hood, a short walk. Within two months my posture improved significantly, to such extent that my dizziness was reduced by almost 70%! The numbness on my face and arm improved by half. There was a bounce in my step, because they taught me to walk again. There was a moment during an exercise when there was silence in my ear. I wept. Its an amazing thing how the mechanics of walking, sitting, standing can affect your health so profoundly. Chris and Ana not just teach, they educate me. My body is stronger, my posture straighter, and my body has gained an awareness of when the posture is off. How great is that? Chris and Ana, you are a blessing, much grateful for your kindness and your presence in my journey to health. Sonia Pichardo

TLDR: Pilates in the Heights has changed my life by giving me back my life. My mobility was rapidly shrinking and through their incredible knowledge, guidance, and kindness, my body and mobility are mine again.

I started coming to Pilates in the Heights in 2019. After 5 years of working with a rehab doctor for bursitis in my hips and plantar fasciitis, my world was shrinking. My insurance would only cover 2 months of physical therapy once a year, which was never enough. And despite my diligence in doing the exercises I was assigned, what I needed was someone who would help me as my body changed, who could give actual feedback and help me continue to grow.

I was afraid at first to even try pilates. I worried that if this was an exercise focus as opposed to a medical focus, that I wouldn’t “fit in.” But now my big regret is that I didn’t do this years earlier.

I’ve worked with both Ana and Chris, but mostly with Ana. I can say, however, that watching the way Chris works and the way he interacts with me, they’re both awesome. From the first day, Ana was kind to me and focused on what is going on with my specific body. She says that every person’s body is different, so she understands that my build is different from hers or another client, but that doesn’t make me good or bad. We just work with what we have! One of the most meaningful things to me is when Ana has carefully watched me do a specific movement, and then she says with a very satisfied voice that I’ve gotten so strong. She has shown me that my body is worth of gratitude, and she has made me love myself so much more.

I will never stop coming to Pilates in the Heights. I got my world back. We talk about self-care, and it’s not bubble baths or pedicures for me, but it’s me having the expert support to guide me in developing a strong and flexible body, that can do what I need it to do. Climbing stairs, standing, sitting, playing, dancing, and just living, are all the things I can do now without difficulty. I look forward to getting older with the help of Pilates in the Heights because now I know every change in my body will be a challenge we tackle together.

I highly recommend taking classes at Pilates in the Heights with the master teachers there. I had found a studio closer to where I live but opted for Pilates in the Heights for its professionalism and the dedication of its highly qualified teachers. I started Pilates because of debilitating backaches, a stooped posture, and a serious misalignment of my body. My teacher guides me through exercises along with thorough but concise explanations about the processes of the exercises and the points of my body that they target. The Pilates classes are the highlight of my week for the gratification I get from the transformative changes I see and experience. In just a few weeks, the misalignment of my body (that had become normative) has improved dramatically. Moreover, the awareness that I acquire in the classes carry over to my daily life outside of the studio. The studio at Pilates in the Heights is sparkling clean and well-organized and the teachers are outstanding. If you want to improve your body and mind, don't go to the gym---take classes at Pilates in the Heights.

I have absolutely loved my time working with Pilates in the Heights! I've only been working with them for a few months, but I started feeling the physical differences within a few sessions. I grew up dancing and Pilates in the Heights has helped me to unlearn habits that have sustained pain since I was younger. Working with them was my first time trying pilates. Their ability to communicate and explain how exercises should be done / feel has been so helpful. I'm now learning how to properly use my body to feel like my best self. I can't recommend them enough!

I have been going to Pilates in the Heights since 2015 and it has been a transformative experience.

I am a freelance textile conservator specializing in installing exhibitions. My job is very physical, and Pilates in the Heights has helped me heal past injuries and, just as important, work on my body to prevent new ones.

The beautiful studio is a clean, welcoming environment. My sessions with Ana are part meditative, part physical therapy and part exercise, tailored to my needs—no cookie-cutter solutions.

Ana and Chris really understand the body and are excellent communicators. There is no air of exclusivity or elitism. They treat their clients with respect, listening to their needs and concerns.

As someone who works for themselves, I appreciate and admire Ana and Chris for creating Pilates in the Heights. They are not part of a corporate gym whose goal is quantity and more quantity. Like so many of us in New York City, Ana and Chris are independent, relying on themselves and it’s so important to support these types of people and their businesses!

"Pilates in the Heights" is the best thing I could ever do for my body, mind and soul. Chris and Ana are lovely and very profesional. They really take care of every client in a very personal way and take the time to adapt each exercise to best suit your body and situation. I have been working with Chris and Ana for many years now, and they helped me recover from a shoulder injury, unbalanced hips due to my profession (saxophonist posture), and a C-section. The studio is beautiful, extremely clean, with tons of natural light and the perfect vibe to feel calm and relax. Every class is a new challenge and I have so much fun!! I can't recommend this studio enough.

Ana and Chris have wonderful energy and are superb instructors. The studio is peaceful, welcoming and amazingly clean. My fellow practitioners are every size, shape, and color and come in for a variety of reasons. My story: I started my practice in March 2022 and started feeling the difference after 5-7 sessions. My chronic pain is no longer chronic, I can sleep better, and my mood has improved. After 3 months of practice (2-3 per week) I feel stronger, walk taller, and have muscles I forgot existed. Pilates in the Heights is a true hidden GEM in Washington Heights/Inwood. I can't recommend it enough.

I have been going here to see Ana for about a year now. I go for chronic pain and migraines. I have to say the attention to detail, the patience, and way in which they really cater towards your body is like no other. This is truly your saving grace. My body is in such a better place and I am forever grateful!

I have been seen Ana from 2019, when I started to have problem with my back. I was experiencing a lot of pain due a lumbar disc herniation. It took some times but with her knowledge, patient and positive energy I can leave my life without pain. Thank you Ana!!!

We all have different body shape, occupation and life style. And that can cause bad habits with using your body. The Pilates In The Heights is perfect place to develop your inner muscle and core.

During this pandemic, I could feel that the muscles that I built was gone. I was looking for a pilates studio near my neighborhood and I met this amazing studio: Pilates In The Heights.
Chris and Ana are the experts of pilates, they have long time experiences teaching every different body.
From few months, I could feel the difference. I start try to listen the voice of my body, where I use wrong way, what I should need to change. Chris and Ana were helping me to use my body in proper way.
I definitely recommend this studio who wants to find out how to use their body in right way.

I have been working with Chris and Ana since 2008. When I started I had deep pain in my back. Often I would come in crooked due to muscle spasms. Within a few months this was gone and when the pain tried to sneak back, I was able to adjust myself to make it better. That was just the beginnning of getting to know my body and developing the muscles and body alignment necessary to be pain free, much stronger, and confident in my physical abilities. I'm still getting stronger, even as I grow older. I think everyone should do Pilates. With Chris and Ana, of course.

Best thing I ever did to heal from having surgery on my back. The whole experience is healing, and I wouldn't want anyone else but Chris and Anna helping me on my healing journey.
It's a place I feel safe, in expert hands, and a very compassionate environment when you are dealing with chronic back pain.
I would give them 10 stars if I could.

I have been going to Pilates in the Heights for a few years now. I wish everyone could experience Pilates with an instructor like Chris. He is very knowledgeable, patient, and a great communicator. Chris explains every step of the movements, and why they are being used. I always feel so much better after each session. . Regardless of the discomfort I may be experiencing, It is usually resolved at the end of my session, but if it's not, I can expect "homework". Beware he likes to give homework. Its fun homework though. The studio is clean, welcoming, well lit and very calming. The energy is very relaxing.
You're in for a treat, there isn't just one amazing instructor, but two. You have to meet Ana also. She is one kind lady. i would advice you to do yourself a favor, go check them out. the best self care you could have.

We love this place! My wife has a good amount of experience taking pilates, so she understands the value in it and is more in tune with the details of how it can be a game changer for your body. However, as a first timer, I have to say I was fairly reluctant to go when she recommended it just based on my incorrect perception of how I could actually benefit from the practice. After my first session here though I have to say I became an immediate convert! Ana and Chris run an amazing place; situated in the parlor level of a brownstone uptown, the place is clean, comfortable, beautifully designed, and most importantly ENCOURAGING. They are excellent instructors and do a wonderful job moving you fluidly through each part of your session. While some activities can be challenging, it’s welcome because they move you into it at a great pace and do so warmly and with a smile too! I’ve taken both private sessions as well as group ones at this point and even in the groups they have a wonderful way of ensuring you get individualized attention. We really cannot recommend this place more!

I have been working with Chris and Ana at Pilates in the Heights for more than five years. They are both amazing teachers, the studio is impecably clean, and they totally understand the balance between challenging me to do more and support me through my limitations. They pay close attention to each student's needs, goals, and capacities and tailor each session to your particular body. I strongly recommend that you check them out if you are looking to build strength, flexibility, and endurance--no matter where you are in terms of age, size, or confidence. Working with Pilates in the Heights has been the best thing I have ever done for my health.

My experience at Pilates in the Heights has been nothing short of transformative. Since I started with Chris and Ana more than 8 months ago I am fully aware of the power behind this work. They both are Master teachers of their craft. Pilates is truly a complete mind body workout and I am reaping the benefits. I can’t say enough good things about this Studio and the lovely couple that make even the hardest sessions enjoyable.

Ana and Chris are such wonderful, dedicated, and knowledgeable teachers. I walked into the studio feeling like I was carrying a rock on my shoulders, and Ana helped me lift much of that weight off of my body just after one session. Her approach is gentle and thoughtful, yet clear and efficient at the same time. Chris (with whom I took a private ballet class) is so passionate about what he teaches. He makes sure that you understand the fundamentals at each step, which is crucial if you want a real change in your body. Simply, really good, caring teachers! If you are hesitating to try their studio, go for it! Your body will thank you.

I've been attending group pilates sessions twice a week for the past 10 years. My flexibility, strength and balance have improved enormously, and I no longer have knee pain going up & down stairs. Ana & Chris are wonderful, former ballet dancers, and they tailor the workout to my needs. It's fun & I also enjoy the other clients who attend. In summary, I love Pilates in the Heights!

I have been working with Ana for 5 years. She and Chris are exceptionally professional and sensitive to the needs of each person’s body and injuries. Their understanding of the anatomy is second to none. They make adjustments and recommendations tailored to each client which is unique and makes for a personalized and really valuable experience. Ana helps me with pain management as well as toning, strengthening and awareness of posture. I can not recommend this studio enough. Anyone who I have recommended to join the Pilates in the heights family is equally thrilled. My hour of Pilates is the most important hour of my week. I am totally smitten.

I have worked out in many places and with many instructors in New York City. Ana and Chris are by far the most knowledgable, caring, inspiring and fun trainers I've ever known. They know Pilates inside and out from years of experience. They make the work out super challenging and enjoyable, too.

Along came Pilates in the Heights. Over several years I have fallen in love with the Reformer and the Cadillac in this calm and at the same time energizing Pilates studio in Washington Heights. Ana and Chris know their stuff. As former ballet artists, they have studied and continue to research muscles and stance and how it effects your health and body. Even in small group classes (2-4 usually), you get individualized attention. The studio attracts Pilates novices and experienced patrons and it works seamlessly. When my schedule can't fit in the group class, I can often substitute a half-hour private class ($5 more) and get a great work out either way. To become stronger and more flexible, check out Pilates in the Heights - I am glad I did!!

This studio is welcoming to people of all ages, all degree of fitness, and all expectations and goals. It offers private or group classes (no more than 4 people in my experience), which allows for individual attention and guidance to each participant. Both instructors (Ana and Chris) take full advantage of this and customize the workout according to each person's bodily idiosyncrasies, abilities, and needs. All the while they gently, but methodically and continually, correct and challenge one to work against any ingrained and unbalanced ways of using one's body. Working in small groups I also noticed that they show extra awareness, care and responsiveness with people complaining of pain or discomfort (even minor ones like a headache). Beyond correction, they challenge one to constantly work towards greater strength, flexibility and body awareness. Ana and Chris (I have been working with both, but more frequently with Chris) keep the sessions challenging and fun by varying the types of exercises and gradually increasing their difficulty in a purposeful and pedagogical manner. They are both very knowledgeable not only about Pilates, but also about human anatomy and muscular physiology, as well as the common ways we wrongly use our bodies in daily life. They teach with method, involvement, and pleasure. After a few months of going to Pilates in the Heights I got rid of a mild, though nagging, back pain caused by too much sitting. Now I can sit for 8 hour straight with no pain at all. I feel that my body got stronger and more flexible and my posture greatly improved (no more slouching). I am also more aware of my body which allows me to correct my posture and gait throughout the day. Situated on the 9th floor, the studio is airy, clean, has great views of the entire downtown area and of the Hudson River, and wonderful light throughout the day. It has a very pleasant, relaxed, friendly, welcoming, and joyful atmosphere that matches Ana and Chris' nature, making one look forward for the next class. Highly recommended!
