I’ve enjoyed taking classes at this studio when I happen to be in LES. I mainly practice pilates at my home studio in Brooklyn and liked the flexibility of booking on Classpass. Compared to other studios, their late cancellation cost was pretty steep, but, given the small size of the studio, that seems fair. I was surprised to see that all three of the classes I had booked this week were cancelled (including one that was just a few hours away), and the studio was removed from Classpass altogether.
They have a new owner and she sent out an email last week describing upcoming changes to the studio, and I was really excited to see the updates. I wish she’d also given a heads up about cancelling Classpass, because I’d planned for all my workouts this week to be at this studio. I’m not sure a package of classes makes sense for me, since I’m not in the neighborhood consistently enough. I will definitely miss the flexibility of using Classpass, and I’m sure other patrons will as well, especially when it’s something many employers help cover.

The best Pilates Reformer studio I’ve ever been to — and I’ve tried many! I practiced here regularly for a year and a half and absolutely loved it. Small groups, amazing teachers with great attention to detail, plenty of class options, and such a warm, human atmosphere. I made real progress thanks to this studio and always looked forward to every session.
I only stopped because I moved out of the US — otherwise I’d still be going every week! A huge thank-you to Rosaly, Mary, and Gabriel for their excellence and passion.

The unprofessional nature of this studio and its owner is unlike any other studio I've experienced. I've been practicing reformer pilates for over a decade and brought my husband to class, as he has been to many other classes with me. We of course wore our grip socks. Upon entering the studio, the owner seemed like she was mad at us for being there: she first accused us of not having filled out extra paperwork on Classpass (we actually did fill it out after seeing it on the signup, but have never had to do this for any other studio) and once she realized she was incorrect, she did not apologize for the accusation and for trying to paint us as uninformed. She asked if we had grip socks, and we told her yes, but then DURING our workout came over and looked at the bottom of our socks. She immediately turned around and walked away without a word. She is absolutely predatory and doesn't seem to want clients at her studio, or for them to have a good experience. I have been to dozens of pilates studios and never once met someone so hellbent on wanting to catch clients in not following rules, and can't take accountabiltiy when she is in fact in the wrong. Seeing her response to real client google reviews, she had never once thought of changing her attitude or business strategy.
I'll leave her with this - we actually live next door to the studio. When I booked the class, I hoped it would be my studio as I go most days out of the week. After the way she treated me and my husband, I walk 20 minutes out of my way every day to spend many thousands a year on classes that are NOT with her studio. I'd rather they have my money and not her.

I’ve been coming here for weeks through ClassPass and was never once told that grip socks were mandatory. Today, I showed up in regular socks and the front desk attendant called the owner. Instead of handling it with professionalism, the owner was rude, dismissive, and wouldn’t allow me the simple option of going home to grab my grip socks and join a later class — even though there were open reformers. I was essentially told I couldn’t take class at all today and to come back another day.
I completely understand studios having policies for safety and hygiene, but those rules should’ve been communicated the first class I had and not sprung on clients after weeks of attendance. And there’s no reason those policies can’t be enforced with courtesy and flexibility. This experience felt unnecessarily harsh, unwelcoming, and frankly unprofessional.
If you’re considering this studio, just be aware: grip socks are required (even though that was never communicated to me), and management does not handle things in a customer-friendly way

I’m moving there in a couple weeks and all I did was call to inquire about the classes a couple weeks ago, and the customer service WAS EXTREMELY RUDE. i will not be buying any classes or a membership. i was astonished at the lack of respect or manners. Came here for the first time today as a beginner to Pilates. Love that they have classes targeting different experience levels and really enjoyed my beginner’s class, the teacher was really nice and patient. Also, it’s a small touch but I really appreciated that they have complimentary water. I had read some of the negative reviews here and was on the fence about trying it but so far have nothing but positive things to say! And regarding the reviews about the late policy, a strict 5 min grace period is fairly common for Pilates

I visited this studio recently and had a deeply disappointing experience. Despite arriving early, I was excluded from the class for 10 minutes because I didn’t use their platform to sign a waiver—even though I requested help when the email never arrived. The staff responded dismissively, saying, 'It’s really not that hard to click on an email,' which felt needlessly condescending.
The instructor later singled me out for corrections in a way that felt belittling compared to others in the class. As someone who’s attended multiple pilates studios, I’ve never encountered such unwelcoming energy.
I also noticed a troubling pattern in reviews here: many 1-star ratings mention similar treatment, often from people of color.
Update June 25,2025
Just to clarify bc im seeing more reviews like mine. I am Latina, and noticed this hostile treatment from both the owner and the instructor Rosaly. i messed up once during class btw, I had taken over 10 classes by the time I took her class js. Inclusivity matters in wellness spaces and this studio fell short.

The owner is extremely rude and unprofessional. Rather than accepting feedback with grace, she becomes defensive and confrontational, even going so far as to attack those who leave honest reviews. After my experience, I looked into it further and found similar stories on Yelp and Facebook, including from former employees.
Pilates should be a place of calm, positivity, and support, not a space where you’re made to feel uncomfortable or intimidated. I strongly recommend doing your research before supporting this business.

Tried this studio via Class Pass. Loved it!
They have small class sizes (5 max) so you get real attention, and Gabriel was excellent, very knowledgeable. After years of fast-paced reformer classes with loud music, it was so refreshing to slow down and focus on proper form.
I came in with lower back pain (from standing or walking all day?) and the pain was gone after the class. Will definitely be back!

I bought the two-class intro package because I try to keep up on my Pilates routine while traveling, and I love to try new studios. There were plenty of 50-min classes throughout the day, all of which had available room (a plus). The vibe was low-key and zero-frills. The instructor had chill music playing. Some people prefer silent classes, but I enjoy having something in the background to focus on when I feel the burn. Class started off with gentle stretching, quickly got very challenging for core/thighs/abs/back and shoulders, and ended with an amazing stretch. Time flew! I saw negative reviews complaining that the studio locks the door 5 mins after class begins, but nearly all studios (especially in NYC) have this policy.

Pilates on Ludlow has completely changed the way I move through the world. I stand taller, feel stronger, and leave every class feeling both challenged and refreshed. The space is focused and welcoming, with high-quality equipment, no unnecessary fluff, and small classes that feel personal and intentional.
I’ve tried ever instructor, everyone is incredible. Patricia is truly in a league of her own. Her classes are the perfect balance of control and intensity. I don’t usually break a sweat, but I shake like craaaaazy (in the best way). Her form corrections are subtle but game-changing, and every session feels like a full-body reset.
I’ve never been a morning workout person, but this place gets me up before my commute, and I genuinely look forward to it.
I think I recently met the owner, and she was so warm and passionate — which totally reflects the care put into every part of this studio.
And I’ve seen reviews about their late policy, they close the door 5 minutes after class starts — but that’s completely standard at every Pilates place I’ve ever been too, and the warm-up is crucial. It’s all part of what makes the experience so safe, focused, and effective.
I’m so grateful to have found this place. It’s one of the best parts of my week

I have been going to pilates for years, and have tried a number of different studios,
instructors etc. Pilates on Ludlow has weird energy (not in a good way), and is generally very sterile in every sense possible (the space, its layout, the woman who is usually at the front counter etc). I’ve heard Gabriel is a great instructor, I’ve never been able to try his class yet but of the 7 or 8 classes I’ve done at this studio, I’ve have only bad experiences. I never post a review nor a negative one about a small business but this is such an awful studio. Their energy is terrible but specifically, the instructor Rosaly is HORRIBLE. In terms of a work out, there literally isn’t one. Her routine or whatever she has you do is so dumb and just pointless. She gives off the sense that she’s judging everyone (not only in skill level but also beauty, weight, etc.). She makes comments about how everyone in the class should be able to do certain highly advanced moves because it’s an intermediate class, and then berates you when you get off balance. She gets angry at students when they don’t put the arm/hand loop thing back in a very specific position and she is really hostile. I think she’s a disgruntled
former dancer and that’s why she has this bitter attitude and condescending behavior. Not to mention, she doesn’t even teach you anything at all or give you constructive criticism in terms of form etc. If this had at least been a good work out, I would have been fine and not posted this. But literally the fact that the workout was horrible and not challenging or hard at all (she also didn’t do any stretching at any point during or after the class - making me think she’s not trained in pilates correctly and probably just has some outdated dance training from her youth) and that she’s just straight up a terrible teacher and mean judgement woman - I had to say something. They should be giving refunds for those who took her class or had to endure an hour with her. You couldn’t pay me to ever go to her class again, and I hope to never have to go to this studio unless it’s to try a class with Gabriel.

Have been doing Pilates for almost a decade, here are my thoughts on the worst class I’ve done:
-warning sign: ill-attended class (2 out of 10 people) despite classes being affordable & completely available on classpass
-receptionist & instructor cold & dismissive, did not know or care about common chronic conditions, no modifications suggested
-unclear instructions, no cueing, no adjustments despite the instructor having so few people to oversee
-completely disinterested attitude
-music was strange & kept glitching; instructor didn’t seem to care enough to change anything
-$17 fee for 1 pair of grip socks that ripped the next day
-I called the next day when the socks had ripped & the woman who answered was rude & defensive, yelled at me
There are so many other better studios around the same area :)

Pilates on Ludlow is by far the worst Pilates studio in NYC. I deeply regret not reading the reviews before coming here. Every single negative review is completely accurate. The staff is incredibly strict, with zero leniency or understanding, and they come across as cold and mean. They seem to have no interest in their clients’ well-being or comfort. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs. It’s truly a horrible experience, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
Edit:
Their response only reinforces my original point about the cold and unwelcoming attitude of the staff. Instead of addressing my concerns, they chose to focus on my late arrival, which I understand, but it doesn’t excuse their lack of empathy. It’s telling that they only respond to negative reviews with defensiveness and an attitude, while completely ignoring the positive ones. Clearly, they are more concerned about their image than their clients’ experiences.
I stand by my original assessment: this studio is not worth your time or money. Save yourself the hassle and look elsewhere.

I bought the introductory offer for two classes. The studio policy is to take 3 beginner classes prior to taking any mixed classes if you are new to Pilates.
The beginner’s class is not adjusted to account for different fitness levels. It is geared towards someone who is brand new to their fitness journey. The teacher seemed knowledgeable but had issues with time management and didn’t seem to have a solid lesson plan.
At $71.06 for the intro deal and then $17 for socks, it’s not cheap so I called to share my experience, ask if that was the norm and to see what could be done to better my experience with this studio. My feedback was definitely not well received lol. The lady who answered the phone was defensive, flustered and kept interrupting me. Basically what did I expect in a beginner’s class and that I shouldn’t expect a workout if I have an athletic background.
Well I do expect a workout. I expect that a group class can be modified to make things harder or easier based on your audience especially given that the machines have different settings and I expect more organization in your curriculum when you are charging boutique prices. I expect that I shouldn’t leave a pilates class without breaking a sweat, especially in the summer and when I came to class with a hoodie on.
There are three other pilates studios within a 5 block radius. Customer retention is key to survival in NYC. If a student comes to you with feedback, maybe try listening instead of reacting. I would have been happy to try another class but I left feeling cheated out of $71 instead.

My recent experience at this Pilates class was bad. I arrived today 15 minutes late due to an unforeseen public subway accident, the owner had blocked me from entering against making exceptions for tardiness. The policy is inconsistent; on April 28th there were 2 clients who were 6-10 mins late and were able to start class. And it was the owner's response, while not overtly rude, came across as dismissive; she said she has no control over the situation and I "do whatever I need to do." at the end while closing the door on me. It was also raining today; even if she could ask to come in to explain instead of watching me standing in the rain would’ve made this feel less condescending. Won’t return to the studio for this incident

Rosaly is an excellent instructor and her advanced class really delivers. It's the best advanced pilates class I have taken in the city. She focuses not just on strength, but balance, coordination, flexibility, form, mastery with a creative approach and movements/ flows I haven't seen anyone else teaching.
This class is definitely not for beginners but if you are a consistent, experienced pilates student who wants a challenge, attend this class. The best part is the studio has small classes, so the teacher can really supervise you. Unfortunately, many other studios I have been to have classes so large it's easy to get lost or perform the movements incorrectly without anyone noticing.

This was my first visit to Pilates on Ludlow. I've taken pilates in other studios, out of state and in NYC. This studio is a hidden gem and with only 5 reformers you get individual attention. It was my first time visiting the studio from out of town (2/23/2024)! Very clean. I was greeted warmly by the front staff, had a friendly conversation. Forgot my sticky socks - I was so relieved to have them conveniently sold by the studio.
I love the intimate size of class (up to 5) compared to where I live, where classes are up to 10-12 easily. Saori's class was challenging, yet rewarding. She led the class with an excellent cadence. Her background in ballet was expressed in our exercises, to which I was grateful. If you think her class is like "Barry's Bootcamp", you might've signed up for the wrong difficulty class, there's nothing wrong with getting the best workout of your life.
I appreciated her patience in allowing me to film myself in-studio to track my progress. Support a local business, don't use ClassPass, keep businesses alive in NYC.

Kinda rude :(
And let me explain why I call them rude:
I chose this place because on class pass they said it’s women owned, so I assumed it will be a friendly environment. When I entered the door I was kinda confused because it was my first time here. I was not sure who worked at the reception. The entrance was so narrow and there were three people there. As a result it took me a while to get used to the environment. I just didn’t feel like it was a friendly environment. When I talked to the lady at the reception, she told me to hang my clothes on the wall. I couldn’t hear her clearly at that time. So I was acting confused. The lady asked me if I knew any English. It was such a rude question. I am Asian and I know I’m minority here.maybe for them it’s quite normal to ask a Asian person if they know English. But tbh a lot of Asian Americans & Asian Asian knows English. It’s not hard to speak English right? Literally the easiest language out there. It’s not like I’m in France now, it’s New York City. this place was not professional to me. Ask anyone if they feel comfortable being asked can u speak English. The entrance also smells like pee btw. Maybe it was not pee… but it wasn’t good smell. I was telling myself that ok alright it’s just one time I’ll never come here again forget about that weird question. Luckily I booked the wrong session so I can go home immediately. It’s not even about class pass. It’s about the attitude. Maybe they have great Pilates instructors. But my journey in this place stopped at that entrance. I’ll tell my Asian friends about my experience too.

I’m new to Pilates. The classes are great. The instructor is too! All the classes that I attended so far were taught by Saori. The reformer is really a full body workout and it’s a different set of exercises each time. So it’s fun and challenging at the same time. The studio is small but very clean. The class size is also small (5 machines) which is great.
Classes are offered at different levels. Make sure to start with beginner if you are new to Pilates. It will be challenging enough, believe me. It was for me, and I’m working out on a regular basis.

Monica is one of the best pilates instructors I’ve worked with over the last 7 years. Her hands on corrections make the biggest difference and have completely changed the way I do pilates. I’ve taken a few of her group classes and always leave knowing so much more about my body and sore in places I’ve never been sore before! Today I had a private session with her which I will now recommend to anyone I know looking to get into pilates. She’s tough but if you actually want to see results you need to know the tiny corrections that will make all the difference and Monica is an expert on those. Moves that are usually so easy for me now have my whole body shaking and sore just because of one small adjustment. Learning these corrections helps me get the most out of every other class I’m doing whether that’s pilates with different instructors, ballet, etc. If you’re looking to tighten up your pilates foundation I would highly recommend booking a private session with Monica.

Pilates on Ludlow is a great place to start or continue your Pilates journey. The staff are very helpful and accommodating and a joy to talk to. All the instructors are very helpful and knowledgeable and they each have something different to offer. I love the small class size as well. In particular, Mary, Cam, and Corrie are my favorite instructors, and Monica is also great if you want to learn or brush up on basics.

I had a great class! It was my first time on the reformer and the instructor did a great job with introducing us to the basics while also keeping the class challenging. Since it is a small class, each student gets lots of attention and the instructor makes sure that our posture is correct. Would definitely recommend this class for anyone beginning Pilates! :)

My favorite Pilates classes Downtown NYC. I’ve tried quite a few through ClassPass and always end up coming back here the most often. The studio always has a very mellow and welcoming, tranquil energy. I’ve also really enjoyed multiple instructors, and every class have done something new on the reformers, so you can’t really go wrong.

Pilates on Ludlow is a great place! great teachers, great equipment, and a great deal on classpass if that's your thing.
Very friendly and welcoming to all ages & body types, supwr well equipped.
Pilates is a lifechanging exersize, especially for people who don't think of themselves as prone to exercize! (Like i was, before i became pilates enthusiast!)
If you're nervous, take a beginner class or pook a private and I promise you'll be in the straps and off to the races in no time (while often lying down! in the strongest way possible :)

I toke a beginners Pilates class with Rosaly she was very knowledgeable and focused a lot on breath work which was great to be educated on . She explained some basics and how to maintain form, but from the moment you step in and meet the front desk lady to the instructor it isn’t a welcoming environment. The instructor was condescending and seemed irritated at times. She could show more curiosity, patience, and have a better attitude toward the attendees. The space is also a little small for comfort especially with an instructor that doesn’t make it easy to feel comfortable. An overall unpleasant experience! I would recommended looking into other studios that are much more welcoming and comfortable.

Been coming here since the pandemic. Had never taken Pilates before and now I’m hooked! The teachers are incredible - classes are small so instruction and modifications can be individualized. Janet, the owner, is always willing to help with any class or teacher issues - she listens and really cares!! Can’t recommend Ludlow Pilates enough.

I booked through classpass and loved my pilates session here. There are only 5 reformers, so the class is very personalized and the instructor is super helpful with fixing your moves and positioning. I also appreciated the emphasis on breathwork with each movement. I would recommend this class for someone who likes a relaxed, slower pace pilates class that gives you a good foundation for pilates. (I took the beginner-intermediate)

First time doing a reformer pilates class, booked through classpass and Bailee was amazing. They only do 5 people at a time, so a lot of personalized attention and position corrections. Good amount of stretching. I loved that Bailee took the time out to explain how to get in and out of different positions and what we might expect in a more mixed or advanced class.

Really wanted to like this place as it is so close to my apartment and there is a lack of Pilates studios in the area. However, the studio is extremely small and crammed and the classes (I’ve been enough times to infer) are unchallenging and boring. The owner is also grumpy which makes the whole vibe of the studio unpleasant to walk into!

I absolutely love this studio. Instructors are fantastic and truly change my body after having a baby. I have been going there for more than a year and it is a must place to go on les for sports. I read some comments and was compelled to write as lots of people have been unfair and don’t appreciate the neighborhood feel and community it serves

Nice appearing studio with decent equipment. Don’t forget your sticky socks, or the owner, Janet, will not let you in! She will try to coerce you into purchasing 17$ socks (an alternative for rebooking the class whilst acquiring the equipment wasn’t offered), however, whilst rolling her eyes and making snarky comments. Something has to be said about the lack of consideration and kindness to which Janet approaches customers, on top of the policies that I can say out my years of practice and the multinational Pilates studios I have visited, I have never encountered. It sounds like the other instructors are quite friendly, however. Maybe worth a visit with someone else around.

The instructor (Monica) clearly had a cold, sniffling and coughing, and yet continued to teach and touch us during movements. Frustrating class that didn’t feel like a workout at all.
Edit in response to the owner’s reply: my friend booked me this class with her ClassPass credits. I took the class — this is such a specific experience why would I make it up. Monica was sick during the class and now I am. She was making all these comments and adjustments by touching me and it made the whole class super counter productive and upsetting.

I’ve been doing Pilates on and off for 5 years. Every time I take Monica’s class, I remember why I fell in love with pilates. She encourages mindful movements and really reinforces connection with your breath. I really appreciate that she gives reminders to check in with your form throughout the class. Because of that, I see noticeable results in mobility and muscle definition at a faster rate. One of the BEST instructors in NYC!

Unfortunately, I had a disappointing experience in the Pilates class taught by Monica. I found Monica's teaching style to be lacking in several key areas. For starters, she didn't always ask for permission before making adjustments, which is an important industry standard in the world of Pilates. This made me feel uncomfortable and less trusting of her as an instructor.
In addition to this, I often found her instructions to be unclear and confusing. She would mix up her words, which led to misunderstandings and frustration. When she corrects you, she would do so in a condescending manner that made me feel embarrassed for not understanding.
Overall, I didn't feel at ease taking Monica's class, and I wouldn't recommend it to others. I think there are many other instructors out there who would provide a better Pilates experience. I won't be back to this particular class.

Workouts on the reformer give me energy I don’t get with other types of exercise. I love that it’s full body and low impact. When my schedule permits, I try to go three times a week. What I love about Pilates on Ludlow is that it feels semi-private; only five reformers so the instructors can give each person a lot of personal attention to proper form. I’ve worked with all the instructors there and I appreciate the unique approach of each one.

GO AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! To be honest, I'm disgusted by the service at this establishment. As I walked on, I realized I was not welcome. The lady at the desk made me feel uneasy, and I honestly felt racially profiled. I presented her with two forms of identification, and she proceeded to tell me that she does not believe I am the person listed on my reservation. We were arguing for about 5 minutes about WHO I AM, as if my passport was not a form of identification. I enjoy PILATES because it is a comforting activity.
... What does that have to do with you racially profiling me or making me feel unwelcome. You clearly need a hug, I wished you got more hugs during your childhood.

Great place, great location-- neat, stylish, peaceful, with different brand new machines, Pilates chairs and reformers ,- the instructor Monica is sensational , extremely precise, detailing the reason and the goal of each exercise, correcting patiently your body alignment, making you really work those famous “core “muscles (key muscles!) - Warning: you certainly will not be able to take a nap on the reformer!! I always leave the class feeling relaxed , though - plus, stronger and taller..!

Angie is the BEST instructor that I have worked with so far. Her depth of how the body's anatomy works and functions are mesmerizing. I have no more lower back problems. In addition, Angie's sense of humor is different; she makes the jump board class (must take this class + chair class) so entertaining and easy to process various movement combinations.
Also the shop itself is a little gem. Janet, the owner, is flexible and always finds a way to create deals for everyone to give a chance to a new emerging work out of the reformer pilates.

Wow. This was my 2nd time coming to this studio and yet again, Angie was an excellent instructor. Each time I've taken her class, I felt great afterwards. I've been visiting a few pilates studio over the weeks via ClassPass and I began thinking "perhaps this is where I can commit to pilates a couple times a week," until I met the owner....
When I inquired about a particular package the studio was offering, the owner looked at me strangely and said "REALLY!?" This threw me off a bit because she seemed surprised and not in a good way. I was confused because as the studio owner, she didn't seem to care about actually selling the package. Instead , she began to go through the motions of explaining the packages after I asked her "what's the problem?" At one point, she asked me if there was a pilates studio near me in Bushwick, suggesting I should go there instead. I said "yes there is and I'm going to check them out." Clearly she didn't want my business and I will not be returning to this studio. However, I will keep a lookout for the instructor's name. I wouldn't mind taking another class of hers again. Just not here. She is the only reason I have given this review three stars.

Horrible attitude from the front desk lady (who worked on 3/20/2022) - I booked my second class at this studio through classpass. Since the studio is not integrated with classpass, it requires the client to book it via classpass AND also the studios website. I was not aware of it, so I didn’t register the class on their website when I arrived. (This is my second time at the studio and I didn’t ask to go through this process last time)
When I arrived, the front desk lady spent 5 mins questioning me on why didn’t I complete the process instead of providing any solution and acted super frustrated. In order to make up for that, I tried to follow the instructions provided on the spot, but the process is invalid. The front desk lady was not even familiar with their process and couldn’t get their systems to work as well. I asked if I can deal with this after the class since none of us could figure this out and the class has already started for 3 mins. The front desk lady said NO and kept SHAMING me on not following the process and refused to let me joined the class.
I asked her what’s the reason that I can’t join the class, she said it’s because I didn’t sign my waiver. I asked if there’s any other ways (paper form…etc.) that I can have this completed since their website is not working. She then gave me a very arrogant attitude and said ‘This is our only process. I don’t know why the system didn’t work for you but it works for others’ - it’s not my fault that your system is not working when I tried to accommodate your unfriendly process..
It’s my mistake for missing this unusual instructions, but I was more than willing to accommodate and complete the process. However, the UNWELCOMING and NASTY attitude from the front desk is unacceptable. I was very happy that we got one more new studio in the neighborhood, but with this experience I will NOT go there ever again and will NOT RECOMMEND any of my friends or anyone there. There are other amazing pilates studio around that have great instructors and provide pleasant experiences (Avea Pilates and Good Times Pilates..etc.)
