I have a Black Card membership and primarily use this gym (and Batavia) for tanning. They (Amherst location) do not change the bulbs as often as they should, in fact the bulbs have been on their way out for months now. You can tell due to the pink on the upper bulbs (pictures below) and this is from both #6 and #7. I uploaded another Planet Fitness (Batavia) and how their bulbs are normal.

I don’t blame the employees because it’s not their fault but I do put this squarely on the owner. I’ve heard that they’ve put in “work orders” for months now and nothing gets done. Sick and tired of the excuses.

I’ve worked out at a lot of diff locations and this one in particular seems to struggle with keeping the dumbbell rack in order! I suggested simply putting labels on to help those “organizationally challenged” put them back in there proper place! As re organized myself Saturday morning multiple others spoke up that shared my frustration.

This is the worst gym in the Northtowns area.
I waited at the front desk and then walked around looking for an employee for a few minutes today 6/22/2025 and I don't think there were any employees actually in the building at the time.
There's a theft problem in the locker rooms. Hasn't affected me but there are more signs than at other PF locations and I do know one victim of theft here.
For some reason they don't just label the weight racks so they're often mixed around at the end of the day. I really don't get this, it's common sense, every gym does this for good reason.
The bathrooms and lockers are disgusting.

This location is by far the BEST(Maple rd) ! All the employees are so kind and patient. Brittany is absolutely amazing!!! She makes you feel so comfortable, she is so attentive and she does her job with a smile. I went to another location a few weeks ago and I just wanted to go tanning a leave, they made me feel awkward.. today I wanted to just tan and I went back to my normal location on Maple. Brittany made sure my bed was fully sanitized, I even offered to do it a she told me it’s ok this is apart of my job I wanna do it for you. I have never had anyone do that for me. I explained what happened at another location and she really made me feel so comfortable, and not awkward like the other location did. When my son an I walked in she greeted us with a happy hello an how were we, and when we left we got another have a wonderful night with happiness again. She is def someone who shows she enjoys her job and is def a people person. I asked her, her name because I wanted her to get recognized for who she is an to let the company know how lucky they are to have someone like her. As we all know good employees are hard to come by.

I go here mainly because of the large choice of machines available for aerobic and resistance training. The cleaning for floors and the lockers seems to be less often than I prefer. Employees will vacuum late at night, but there isn’t enough concern about wiping down the locker rooms more regularly. I think this isn’t any less than all the other places I’ve visited unfortunately. The male employees are always browsing on their phones which I think could be better served on even a little bit of checking the paper towel dispenser that could go empty or wiping anything down.

I used to really like this club location. Even though it’s short on space. However, this location has a new manager who seems to have no regard for personal safety of the patrons.
On 10/29/24 the sign in computer system was down. The staff had a paper on the counter for signing in. It requested full name and phone number. I expressed to the manager, Austin, that I didn’t feel comfortable with this and I have safety concerns. He curled up his lip at me and stared without my full name and number I wasn’t coming into his club. On that, I left and attended another location. I will not return to Maple Rd, Amherst.

Attention Owner of the Planet Fitness franchise on Maple Rd. and gym members. The Federal Trade Commission has passed the Click To Cancel Law. The law will simplify ending a gym membership. No more will you have to speak to the manager who is never there, Or get a note from your doctor, or nurse practitioner, Or show a utility bill indicating that you've moved more than 25 miles from one of their locations. The new law should be in effect within 180 days, so please re write your contracts accordingly. If I signed up with one or two clicks on a phone, I should be to cancel in the same manner. No certified letters or hunting down a manager who quit 3 weeks ago. Thank you for your cooperation and can't you hire at least one desk employee that will look up from their phone and acknowledge a person checking in? For the price it's fantastic. One problem was the atrocious decision to structure the building so that all cardio machines are facing at least ten tv screens at a time, forcing me to watch fast food commercials, not to mention dangerous pharmaceutical ads, and enraging political news stations, while I'm trying to lose weight. I understand that probably the business model depends on advertisement to make these low prices possible. However, it is a cruel and greedy decision.

Edit: decided to try this location out one more time because it is way closer than going to the one on Transit. I walked in and decided to check the paper towels before I even started working out because I'm not getting sick like that again. I wouldn't wish Hand, Foot, and Mouth upon my worst enemy. The paper towel bins were STILL empty. What is wrong with this location that they can't do their jobs and put in some paper towels???

Every time I have gone I have to walk around the whole gym looking for paper towels to clean the equipment. None of the bins ever have any paper towels in them. I know people aren't doing this and are probably just walking away from the machines. I'm almost 100% sure I got hand foot and mouth disease from here since people can't wipe down the equipment without supplies. The employees behind the desk never seem to be doing anything. I used to go to a different one where they were always cleaning and checking the paper towels but have since moved and that one is far away. I will not be returning to this location and possibly never a Planet Fitness ever again

The atmosphere is all about you. The staff is very experienced and knowledgeable about all the equipment. They are constantly cleaning and disinfecting the equipment. There is paper towels and disinfectant for you to clean and spray equipment as well. They have massage chairs and you can work out at your own pace., it’s definitely a no pressure zone.

My only complaint is that this one worker gave me a really rude face and looked angry, no hi no nothing. I had been waiting at the front desk to request a massage chair. All he did was walk to the back and not come out again. I left after a couple minutes. There was a worker mopping and making small talk with another guest near the doorway so I didn’t want to interrupt. But his attitude face ruined my mood anyways. I understand having a bad day, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but there’s really no reason to take your anger out on me. Your job is to restock paper towels and watch people work out, and god forbid someone needs to say something to you, oh that’s too difficult.

Sat. 09/10/22. This person had taken numerous dumbbells from the rack and stacked them onto a flat bench, into a 400 lb. dumbbell pyramid. The bench was perched within 3 FEET of another occupied bench. The guy started doing Karate moves in front of the bench and the entire stack promptly collapsed onto the floor with a thunderous crash that reverberated throughout the gym. Everyone was looking around like a car had crashed through the building. No Lunk Siren, no staff intervention. Nothing. He then picked up each dumbbell and re-stacked them in the same manner. I recognize that staffing is at a minimum, but attention to what's happening on the gym floor is critical. A lone employee cannot watch everything all the time, but this incident went on for over an hour. Are the surveillance cameras not able to be monitored remotely, perhaps by the franchise owner?

Planet Fitness is a pretty good gym. This is the third gym I've been a part of and so far it's been the most enjoyable. The gym is a great size and no matter how busy it gets I feel I can always get a machine I want. I like that there is an app to go with it for tracking my workouts. I do wish watching the tvs was easier. The sound quality with the headphone jacks can be poor and some channels have no audio playing.

So I have been a member for a few years now and never had a problem with a staff member until now. Everyone, up until this encounter, has been all smiles and all friendly.

So anyways. I was there at about 2am. I came walking out of the locker room after my work out, to go home. Walked the same way I always do.

As I'm walking, I hear an old voice yelling at me saying "hey! Why are you walking on the floor!"

That was an odd question to me, because I'm not sure where else there is to walk.

I guess according to him, he had been cleaning that part of the floor, and I should have noticed the wet floor signs.

I looked back, and it looks like he did actually have one set out. Right outside the locker room entrance, so basically as soon as you walk out, your already on the so called wet floor 🤦

So I told him, no it's really not my job to pay attention to where he's cleaning, I'm just walking where I always do, and like I said, he had the sighn set right outside the door so your basically on it already as soon as you walk out. I'm just walking the same path from the locker room to the front door that ive been walking everyday for years now.

I tried to explain this to him, and he got nasty as hell, proceeding to tell me go "get the hell outta here!" As if his fat old body was actually going to do something to me.

Is anyone going to take action about this? I enjoy working out here... but after that encounter I'm not sure if I feel comfortable running into him again. Can anyone fix this issue, or do I need to stop going here in order to avoid running into him again?

Visited this one as my club on transit has closed for repair.

This is a Newer GYM but compared to PF’s I’ve been to , this one is smaller and feels cramped than others.

Not much space to do floor exercises. Equipments kept too close to each other . The hydro massages also don’t work well.

Silver linings are New equipments, kept very clean but I will visit the one on transit once it opens again .

Been a member of the gym for over several years had to change my health insurance and now they don’t cover into my health insurance. They informed me that I would have to go to the Niagara Falls location when I only live two minutes away from them the manager was not friendly, never gave me iContact and had attitude as if he really didn’t care. Went in today to check in and the older gentleman working was busy cleaning and walked right behind the desk to get trash but didn’t bother checking me in. So I picked up the scanner and checked myself in. I then came back up and was waiting for a tanning bed and a younger male employee informed me that he was off the clock but would help me if he was on the clock and told me that he had told the other employee I was waiting. I stood there for several minutes before leaving. This location is filthy and there are only a couple employees who truly care about customer service.
Management in this location must be lacking.

I recently started going back to the gym, I haven’t been since before Covid. Since the first time I walked into this establishment, I felt welcomed. At a lot of other gyms I’ve been to I always super self conscious but I feel that Planet Fitness truly lives up to their “judgment free” motto. The club manager, Joseph is super nice and friendly and always willing to help out if you have any questions or concerns. I highly recommend the black card membership, I personally feel that it’s cheap for everything they offer with it

I have been a member for about 3 months now. I have gone to a few locations. I have not been disappointed! However today two young gentleman blew my mind with their work ethic when it came to cleaning. Yes simple cleaning. As I walked in Tyler was vacuuming the front area and proceeded to move around the gym. Then I watched both boys, Tyler and Eric .. work together to get all the treadmills tilted to then proceed to mop under them. Again “simple cleaning” not so much .. “their job”.. sure ? I have been tanning at Planet Fitness for a few months now and have never ran into any problems. I went into Planet Fitness with a friend and we asked to tan, in which we were both immediately denied by the Manager Katheryn. I was a guest at this time so I understand why I couldn’t tan, but she claimed my 17 year old friend couldn’t tan and told us to “figure out the law” so I looked it up and it says they just need parental consent. We went back in and told her and she decided to be extremely rude to the both of us and just repeating “No.” over and over. We asked to speak to the regional manager. and she told her boss we were attacking her and she was laughing at us whilst on the phone with her boss. I will NEVER go back, and I will be informing people to find a better gym, with better staff to go to. This is unacceptable.

While it’s one of the smaller PF facilities I’ve been to, there’s enough machines and space to accommodate a decent crowd. I definitely wouldn’t come here during peak hours, though. Overall a decent gym, but there are some things that need attention. One year ago they replaced Life Fitness cable+pulley multi-stations with Precor, which are woefully inadequate for commercial use. The result is that 3 of the 5 Precor stations have been out-of-order for 4 weeks, with broken/frayed cables (see photo).
The 2nd issue is minor, it's the paper towel dispensers. There are signs and TV prompts advising self-cleaning of equipment, which most people follow. At one point, the gym ran out of paper towels, and posted a sign and a heavily-used wet towel on the dispensers. How does a gym run out of something that can be purchased in bulk at Costco? Also in the 5 years I've been a member, I've heard the Lunk Alarm a few times. Every so often, there's a gym-bros that purposefully and forcefully SLAM the weight stacks, echoing throughout the gym . Not sure if it's roid rage, or look-at-me narcissism, but it needs to be addressed. Our monthly dues have made the franchise owner incredibly wealthy. He needs to pay it back and try harder. Note to Planet Fitness customer service, there's no reason to reply with "please reach out to our management team." I have spoken to an employee, who was very courteous. However the gym franchisee is ultimately responsible for their business, otherwise more customers will join the gym located situated across the parking lot.

About a year ago I would give this place 5 starts, but this place has slowly declined to the point where I had give a review. All the mats are torn, two cable machines are broken, and a water fountain is broken. Paper towels dispensers are usually stocked, but not so much in the evening. It's been months since the aforementioned things have been in these conditions. Management please address.

I am very disappointed with this Amherst location with the manager and the employees they do nothing 2 machines have been broken for a week towel dispensers are broken or empty the girls behind the desk along with the manager have a great time laughing and talking they don’t even acknowledge when you walk in or when you walk out the crew they had a couple years ago was awesome there’s even empty water bottles and dirty towels on the floor they just walk right by them I’m very seriously thinking of taking I have six memberships between myself my wife my kids and grandkids I’m thinking very seriously or transferring the catalyst

This gym is clean, and unlike many other gyms I've been a member of, the equipment is actually clean and well maintained. 4 out of 5 only because I feel there could be just a few more available free weights and maybe a bigger stretching/floor workout area.
