CHARGED A LATE FEE even though i was literally at the gym with BOTH cash in hand to pay my monthly membership AND a debit card available however you wanna take the payment on the day my bill is actually due AND refused to take any form of payment, claiming computer technical issues. Five clueless employees behind the front desk witness this, and i state i just don't wanna be charged a late fee. I'm charged a Late Fee and the HEAVY set female manger refuses to waive the late fee making nonsensical excuses even though i was there ready, willing and able to pay and due to issues on THEIR end they declined accepting payment lol. Gym itself nice, members cool but management gotta be the worse.

Pretty dirty and a lot of people hogging machines and equipment. Staff are pretty lax when it comes to managing the place. Far too many students during the summer and the equipment labels/guides are damaged so it can be hard to learn proper form.

There is a one skinny guy in the smith machine , when I start working out he was there when I finished my workout he was still there .. I guess he is planning to live there rest of his life . Couple kids at the cable machine trying to choke themselves with the cable .

The place stinks .. using the video to warm up .. I start seeing roaches coming out of the machine .. I left it and went upstairs to work out .. I think people that are working out .. or at least some of them didn't take shower for months .. the smell is disgusting. Walking up to the front desk, I thought I had wandered into a Halloween audition, the receptionist’s eye bags had all the cinematic depth of a zombie extra. Unfortunately, the performance didn’t end there. Instead of a simple welcome, I got the type of icy reception you’d expect from someone guarding the gates of the underworld. (You know when you see her)

Rather than helping, she seemed more interested in flexing what little “authority” she had. Customer service should feel inviting, not like you’ve just been put on trial.

Pretty big gym, staff is friendly they always greet me when I come in and when I leave. Place always seems cleaned. A lot of the lockers are broke which I wish they would fix but other wise I have no complaints. I never see any broken machines maybe once in a while but not often.

Bastante lleno, el personal nada amable uno hace preguntas y ellos contestan de mala manera o no saben dar información. Yo tome una suscripción attaves de la escuela de mi hija con un mes "gratis" y cuando escanee la entrada me cobraron de inmediato todo el mes les pregunte y nadie sabía nada. Y ojo no estaba reclamando solo preguntando, también consulte por un entrenador y me estuve sentada donde me indicaron que esperara mas de 20 minutos y ni apareció nadie. Honestamente mal servicio, lugar amplio y con suficientes maquinas pero pésima la atencion.. cuando uno va por primera vez solo necesita un poco de orientación nada del otro mundo

I got to the gym at 5am opening change my clothes made upstairs to the workout area by 5:05 and it's the same 5-7 Hispanic females on the bench press and it's the same people every single day they wait and hold it for their male friends that comes 1hr or more later then give them the machine while you'll be sitting there waiting and it's a everyday thing when you complain to the staff they act like they don't speak in English
I'm leaving out now and I still haven't been able to use the bench press and it's the same people still on it 2 hours later

The biggest issue i have with this place is the early morning ladies who HOG the Smith machine for an hour doing the same exercise and they STILL LOOK THE SAME, same ladies for almost a year!!! And they have 3 Smith machines. I been there for over a year and I've used it twice. They need to put a time limit on this because it's obvious these girls get their workouts from tiktok because it's always hip thrust, squat then RDLS

I was charged hundreds worth of late fees because their staff members didn’t take down my billing information, but they were able to charge me every month since they had my card on file but they couldn’t access my bank account so every month I got charged around $80. And they should not pretend like they are happy to solve the issue with me because THEY DONT!!!!! The head manager had no interest in solving the matter I've reached out a couple times and got no help whatsoever she said everything was written in the agreement. They should kindly take responsibility for the mistake an employee made with taking my bank information and they did have my card on file so nothing makes any sense. I see I’m not the only one with this issue. CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED!! I know I will get a response being all kind, you guys were not interested in solving my issue please don’t pretend to be apologetic or making as if you will figure it out with me because I know the game!

Just wanted to say thank to all the staff members today. Today was a very emotional day it was the two year anniversary of my dads passing so I took the day off to work on my charity event and work out I was a bit behind on emails and returning call and text and the team at sunset park made sure I was good allowing me quite time in the spa room to continued my business everyone here is so friendly and nice and always pleasant. By far the worst gym I have ever been to. This place has a high theft issue. They encourage their customers to bring locks to keep their belongings safe but 90% of their lockers are broken making it impossible to secure their belongings. I noticed they also have a rodent issue, this past week there were multiple sightings of roaches in the locker room making it unsanitary and uncomfortable to be in. Furthermore, the staff has a time and attendance issue where the gym has not opened on time on multiple occasions.

SHOWERS

Lot of fine things about this gym, but I was just there to take a SHOWER, using their 1-day free pass.
The service was fine and the whole place was clean, but I'm just reviewing the Shower:

- 3 stalls

- 1 stall had no shower head (stolen?)

- 1 stall had no hang-up hook outside the stall where you can hang your pants and wallet (want to keep an eye on them if you didn't come with at lock to lock your stuff up in one of their lockers (good idea to bring a lock)).

- the 3rd (out of 3) stall was fully functional.

- the drain didn't work 100%, but at least the shower pan didn't overflow onto the floor. The water backed up about 1/2-3/4 inch deep in the shower pan.

- disco music ran mindlessly the whole time

- only felt scared once when loud teenagers were making noise elsewhere in the locker room.

- the changing stalls has 3-foot stools. How are you going to tie your shoes when sitting on a 3-foot stool? Maybe they want you to change out by the locker (bring a lock); maybe there are proper benches there.

- the place was clean (good), except for some 'accumulation' on the shower drain. (Maybe bring your own handful of paper towels to empty the shower drain before shower?)

It takes some getting used to, but for a 1st time ever, it went reasonably well and would use again if didn't have a home shower to use. (There are a lot of people in the Van Life/RV community that use Planet Fitness to take showers at.)

I love the workers here they’re all friendly and nice they help you out, they’re always ready. I come here on my break from work sometimes on Saturdays and it’s clean the bathrooms are clean the workers are alway clean as well they always have a smile when I come in they greet you and wish you well when I walk out. I am Happy there’s a PF in Sunset Park. I wanna say that I appreciate the workers there and keep up the good job y’all do to keep people safe at the gym. I would recommend people to come here. People tell me kids come there to hang out and charge there phones but I yet to see that, when I go I see everyone working out and no one judges you we all smile with each other and it’s fun.

Not a bad gym fit the price. Most reviews here are pretty accurate. Things are generally broken for months but three we plenty of stuff to use instead. Staff is pretty nice I'd say and I do see them cleaning. Plenty of natural light which I love.
But why 1 star?
Because I was charged 80$ worth of late fees because their billing system didn't work properly. When I called and talked to different managers nobody could give me any answers or confidence anything would be fixed. Just multiple run a rounds with no way of fixing the problem. I want to resolve the issue, I have plenty of money in my accounts to cover the charges and I want to continue using the gym. One head manager uninterestedly and unhelpfully saidI need to read the contracts but it has nothing to do with that!! My bank said they can charge the account but the management has said there is something weird with their system. And then they charge me 40$ extra a month because of that! I wish they can resolve this but I have not seemed to have found anyone willing to do so there. It is upsetting they cannot do anything about this.

Not bad. I've heard a lot of bad reviews of this place but I still wanted to go. I'm a beginner, so it was good for me. The only bad thing is the Lockers. They are for sure NOT SAFE. I left my things there, like wallets, keys and that stuff. Everything was good UNTIL one day I got stolen. My wallet and all my stuff disappeared. I didn't have a lot of money on it but things like credit cards, and some other things were important to me. I hope they fix that so it cannot happen again to me or someone else.

At Planet Fitness Sunset Park there are 3 floors all with a variety of machines to use. The gym and locker rooms are always clean. There are also additional perks for black cars members- tanning, hydro massage, etc. The location on 5th Ave and 48th St is also easy to get to from the 4th ave/45th st R train stop. Overall convenient, clean, and a great place to get in a workout!

Gym itself is quite nice.

Biggest complaint is about the general patrons of the gym. The amount of people that use a machine for 10 minutes while sitting on their phone is crazy. People will also get up and leave to expect the machine to be theirs when they eventually return. Lastly there are so many dumbbells missing that the ones that are left are hoarded by people so one person uses 2-3 sets and doesn’t allow others to jump in.

Fix the culture of the gym and refill the dumbbells or get more.

As far as space, this is the WORST and smallest planet fitness I have ever been to. It gets extremely crowded no matter what time you go and the lack of space and strength training equipment is shameful. Subsequent to the lack of space and the crowdedness, the air quality gets horrible from body odor and low air circulation. This is also the only planet fitness I know that doesn’t allow you to use the elevator yet has 3-4 floors which is extremely inaccessible and inconvenient for all. I try my best to avoid coming to this gym but unfortunately it’s the only one in the sunset park area, please add another one to the area. As far as staff, they are very friendly and I have never had an issue with any of the members!

It seems overcrowded than when it first opened, so now you have to wait longer to use equipment since people think they own all the weights, barbells and dumbbells at one time. Many people also drop weights here and don't really care about the lunk alarm when it goes off either because they don't read or speak the language. An announcement both in English and Spanish after the alarm goes off would probably help with that. It. Definitely was better.

Planet Fitness in Sunset Park is an affordable, convenient place on Fifth Avenue to workout. The hours are amazing, it opens early and closes pretty late. For $20 a month you can bring a guest every time. It’s much cheaper than the Y or Crunch, and the guest policy is very generous. The gym is clean and has a variety of machines available. I love the bikes with videos of biking trails. The staff are friendly and helpful. The only thing I would change is that even with black membership, you have to ask staff at the front every time you want to use the massage chairs, and they only give you a small amount of time to use them, even if the gym is empty. They should allow you to swipe your card at the machine or give you more time to use them. Thank you for considering this idea, and creating a great space to workout. I love coming here.

I have the same complaint that everyone else does: the management and staff are rude. I had to change from Cobble Hill to Sunset Park, and it took three visits to get someone who knew how to make the change. The rudeness I got from the staff and the trashy attitude of the manager were bad. She even said sarcastically, "See you next time," and waved at me after being downright nasty. Obviously, PF needs to pay better to hire better employees. When I went to cancel, the guy at the front was the nicest, most helpful guy ever. He actually said hello when I walked in, too. Maybe, they're reading these reviews and getting better, but I had a bad experience. Peace and love

The place is nice and clean and has the best equipment, sanitizer available and staff are always helpful and the price is awesome I recommend you to visit this gym

Nobody cleans these tanning beds. I doubt that they even have a crew who is responsible for this, based on the mess and sticky walls inside the tanning machines.
