I normally dont do reviews but as a long time member of Planet Fitness it takes alot for me to wanna write a review.

I went recently and was blown away by how attentive the staff member I spoke to was and how clean everything was.

The person I dealt with was named "Liz" I think or Elizabeth? But she was attentive, constantly wiping things down and helping other guests with whatever they needed.

The machines were clean, the supplies were stocked and Elizabeth has a great attitude and made me feel like I needed to come back sooner rather than later.

If every location had customer service like this id probably be a more frequent guest.

Badly managed gym. Nice gym, but the management is a bit irresponsible.

What I hate the most is that they don't open gym on time. Right now, they are 52 minites late and counting (see the picture showing 7:52am with the locked door). About 60 people gave up, missed their training, and left home. I'm still sitting here and waiting. I feel like a fool with so many other things I should be doing instead of waiting for them.

If a person who is responsible for doing this, they should have a backup. If the second person can not make it, the manager should come to open it. Irresponsable!

What is this manager doing? How do you contact him? Please, someone leave his email.

** Update Sep 29, 2024. Thank you for offering to speak to the club manager. But I'd rather stay anonymous and provide honest reviews than getting any kind of compensation (1-2 months fee membership or apologies).
On the other side, it seems the management did something to address this. I often now see staff vacuuming around during the early hours. The staff is greeting members, which is really nice. The gym in the last few weeks did open on time or even early. I commend the change, and I am increasing my rating from 1 to 3 stars.

** Update Apr 24, 2025: It's been several months, and the gym consistently opened on time or a few minutes before the opening time. I love it! The management seemed to be replaced some younger employees with more serious ones. I see them cleaning and gym seems clean and maintenaned well.
Kudos to the management for improving the way they work.

** Update Aug 11, 2025 If only management can fix these issues faster. It takes weeks...

** Update Nov 22, 2025 The equipment at this gym is poorly maintained, and the facility is not cleaned at all. Most of the machines are outdated, and Planet Fitness should seriously consider revoking the owner’s license or requiring a sale. The stationary bicycles are in terrible condition, the pedals constantly make loud cranking noises, and the straps are breaking. This gym should have upgraded its equipment at least five years ago.

Great: Price, lot of equipment. Pretty much everything for everyone. If you are a runner, love cross trainer, there's always available ones for you.

Bad: The equipment is very old. Especially the ancient bycicles. There are some bottlenecks: cable crossover machines. There are 3-4 that works, one or two that doesn't. Maintenance has been just terrible.

Another bottleneck: Smith Machine bench press. It has always been always full. Sometimes, you wait 15 min in line to get your turn.

Ugly: It takes months to fix some equipment or replenish. The cable crossover machines that are a bottleneck in the gym have been out of service since I joined the gym. Weights are never returned when the gym is closed. Overall gym members have been great but occasionally someone forgets weights that took in the aerobic area. There's where gym staff has to do little work sfter the gym closes.

Hope they do something about bottlenecks, replacing machines nobody uses (30 min workout area) with the machines people use.

**Update (Aug 8 and 10, 2024). Reducing to 1 stars, as this management often times seems to not care of opening the gym at the opening time for over an hour or two, especially on Fridays and Saturdays, so I am forced to miss my workouts as I have to get to work. It's two times already this week, on 08/02 (20+ min) and 08/04 (75+ min and counting), on 08/24 (2.5 hours and counting). The manager should come to open it if other staff can't. Irresponsable to be over 2 hours late. Will update the rating when they reach 3-4 weeks of not being late more than 5 min per day.

I lost my faith in Planet Fitness and they professionalism. Today, I learned this location and even took away the membership from someone who complained.

** Update (Sep 10, 2024): Increasing to 3 stars, as recently they have been opening the gym on time or even ahead of time (5:15am or 5:20am). Amazing! The employee opening the gym in the morning on weekdays is so friendly and perhaps deserves a promotion.
Management seems to be reading reviews. Some progress.

*** Update (August 10, 2025): Frustrated to see broken machines, paper-covered equipment, and workout areas blocked off for weeks or even months at a time in such a crowded gym. This has made it much harder to get a decent workout. Reducing my rating to 2 stars.

*** Update (Oct 8, 2025) Maintenance is really bad in this gym. Equipment like bycicles' pedals and cross-trainers buttons not working, weights left out everywhere and not being able to find 35lbs anywhere... Just frustrating. 1 star.

This gym has completely fallen apart in the past 6–8 weeks. The new manager openly shows favoritism only to certain members and is rude toward everyone else; especially anyone who looks white, jewish, asian, or hispanic. Multiple members have been ignored when asking for help, spoken to rudely, or watched like criminals while certain members get friendly treatment right in front of us. It’s blatant, it happens daily, and it makes the gym feel unsafe and hostile for a huge portion of the membership. Three long time staff members quit within days of each other just a couple weeks ago; all of them told members privately they couldn’t work under her anymore. Bathrooms are filthy, machines stay broken, and the entire staff that’s left just looks miserable. Planet Fitness markets itself as the “Judgment Free Zone,” but right now this location is the most judgmental, segregated environment I’ve ever seen in a gym.

This Planet Fitness in Great Neck has become completely unsafe and unmanageable (especially in summer due to the free teen membership promotion that allows unsupervised minors to flood the gym). There is absolutely no control over their behavior. I’ve witnessed teens vaping indoors, misusing and deliberately damaging machines (even ones clearly marked “Out of Order”), and generally treating the facility like a playground rather than a fitness center. Many of them have no idea how to use the equipment properly, and it’s honestly shocking that no one has been seriously hurt yet.

Bringing these issues to the staff doesn’t help—they’re polite and try their best, but most are very young themselves and understandably hesitant to confront large groups of disrespectful teens. It’s unfair to expect them to risk their safety enforcing rules that management seems unwilling to back up. At this point, security or mandatory parental supervision should be required for teen members.

The gym itself is also in disrepair: open holes in the walls, missing weight pins, broken paper towel dispensers, and numerous machines that have been out of service for weeks awaiting repairs. For a facility located in such a nice area, it’s disappointing to see it in such poor condition.

Until Planet Fitness addresses these safety concerns and invests in proper supervision and maintenance, this location will continue to be a hazard rather than a health club.

I've been to a number of PF locations. This was my second time at this one. It is well-equipped and spacious. I was there about 4 pm. There were hoards of younger kids (teens and college kids) among other customers. The place is big enough so this should not have been a problem. But the kids all lounged on machines, checking phones or chatting with friends and sporadically working out. This is a problem at lots of gyms. I'm not sure what management can do about it. The problem, however, was worse here than at most locations.

As the early bird, I get to wade through a sea of garbage, dirty chairs, and weights scattered like confetti. 🎉

Other gyms have ninja cleaners who swoop in after hours. Here? Not so much. 🧹

I’d gladly pay more if it meant hiring a cleaning crew. Maybe they could even leave us a treasure map to find the trash cans! 🗺️💎

Update 2: The gym is finally running like clockwork! For the past month, it’s been opening on time, and I’ve even spotted the cleaning crew doing their thing. Looks like they read my reviews and got their act together. I’m bumping my rating up to 4 stars—keep it up, folks!

Update 3: Feb 9 2025 Once again, the gym owner has decided to get sleep in, leaving the gym closed nearly an hour past opening time. 15 dedicated souls are still waiting, while 20 others have thrown in the towel and left. Talk about a no-show workout! It’s like he’s in a witness protection program! The corporate is playing the bodyguard, refusing to give out his phone number or email. Downgrading my rating to 1 star.

Update 4: Jun 8, 2025: Major Upgrade!
Huge props to the new staff—finally, the gym opens on time! It's been a solid 6–10 months of punctuality, and I'm still in shock.
Cleanliness has also improved (my allergies thank you), but there’s still room to grow:
- Weights are still left scattered like modern art.
- Cleaning paper and water? Check those more often.
Some machines are just collecting dust—swap them for ones people actually use.
Overall, big improvement. Let’s keep the gains coming!

Update 5: Oct 12, 2025 – The Great Gym Breakdown! 🏋️‍♂️💥
Well, folks, it seems the honeymoon phase is over and the gym’s having a midlife crisis. The bike straps have snapped like they’re trying to escape leg day, the cross-trainers’ buttons are giving silent treatment, and several weight cables have retired early. The weight stoppers are MIA, and the dumbbells are once again doing interpretive dance across the floor. 🎭 Even the equipment looks like it’s reminiscing about the good old days when gyms were young and hopeful. Someone, please send help, or at least a toolbox and a prayer. 🙏💪

Planet fitnesses well Planet Fitness nothing special no pool if you want to go to the gym to have a good workout it's fine the Lawrence Planet Fitness is the best one I've seen yet also the one in Great Neck but that's Innovation so if you don't like being deep down under then the basement is not for you and greatness but it's a first floor in Lawrence with a lot of parking and the people in it are great everybody's fantastic that works here people are polite nice and kind in general though the people who work out here they don't talk too much they're basically people who are working their work out and want to be left alone so social ability in the gym is very limited most people wearing the earbuds and just want to get in and out I don't know if that's so great used to be different times that I came from when people used to talk and communicate you know about General stuff now nobody talks about nothing they just want to be on their way New York City the big rush the big run the big hurry to get to your grave

Update 2025 still a great gym with still the same problem in the circuit room as people sleeping on machines doing sets when it's supposed to be timed by the light on the wall. Now for a new wrinkle the elevator has been broken for about 2 months they fixed it it was good for 2 or 3 days and now it's broken again. Really giving seniors a hard way to go to make it to the gym. Otherwise staff is friendly plenty of machines and a peaceful atmosphere. But they need to fix these issues I mentioned.
Update!! 2022 Still great gym but same problem in circuit 30 minute workout room with members doing sets on machines when its supposed to be one and done and move to the next machine. Or they ate sleeping and sitting on machine playing with their phones and the management does NOT enforce these simple rules all should follow.
So now I'm taking away 2 stars from the rating as they ignore the issue.

Great gym really huge with its of equipment and space to workout. Relaxed atmosphere and staff make for a pleasant experience and practical too cause you can really get a good work out in, it's up to you. Only complaint is many peeps "sleep or sit" and play with their cell phones in circuit room hogging several workout machines so others can't do or complete their workout and be in and out thus why it's called the circuit room.
Management and staff should put up clearer signs stating these RULES and ENFORCE these rule. That's why I'm minusing 1 star.

For the price you can not go wrong. Sometimes there is no hot water for showers and it takes a long time for them to fix it. Also when something brakes it takes forever for them to fix it.

This gym has always had an issue with how long is takes to fix broken machines but now, all 3 leg curl machines have BROKEN FOR WEEKS now. It’s understandable if one machine is down temporarily, but all 3 being out of order for this long makes it hard to take your “well-maintained equipment” promise seriously. Hope to see this addressed soon, because it affects people’s ability to get a complete leg workout here.

This rating is based specifically on my last 2 visits this Fri, Aug 1st and Sat, Aug 2nd. I frequent this location because it's the least hectic, all on one floor, there's parking and I feel the most comfortable working out here.

Friday, a fight broke out between some young males. I had my headphones on listening to music but two of these guys were being real jerks - trying to be intimidating.

I show up the next day, Saturday to no paper towels - most dispensers were empty, especially in the restrooms. (I had to step out to buy a $3.79 roll of Bounty at the discount store across the street bc I refuse to work out without cleaning equipment.)

What do we pay dues for if we have to buy our own cleaning supplies? The spray bottle disinfectant solution is watered down. The women's restroom is ALWAYS filthy. These toilet bowls will have the same nasty rings everytime I go. I agree with the review that stated we lost some good employees, the ceiling leaks and poor air quality.

I'm at this point, running out of locations to go to. I dont want to terminate my membership but somethings got to give.

Contrary to what one of the recent reviews says, this is one of smallest PF gyms I've ever seen. It is a single floor, set in the basement of a strip mall underneath an abandoned supermarket. Can confirm that the AC is too low and it's very warm. Come here on a rainy day during busy hours and it turns into a literal steam room. On a summer day it makes you want to pass out. The ceiling leaks whenever it rains and there have been a few times where there is an odor of smoke or something burning when the heat kicks on. Anywhere up to a third of the treadmills are broken, as are numerous machines. Paper towels and spray bottles are rarely replaced. Bathrooms are filthy within a few hours. There used to be a few staff who were admirably diligent about their job but they don't seem to work there anymore and the gym is suffering (as are the gym goers). Also believe I picked up a bad respiratory/sinus infection from the hordes of teens and people coming in for the summer (really poor air flow in there). Parking lot is dangerous and crowded with teens and bad drivers that can't park (already got side swiped twice). The location is 4/5 stars but the negatives make it not worth it. Don't trust the glowing reviews.

1.) Employees are constantly on their phones, little to no help at all.
2.) Dirty dress rooms and showers.
3.) No enforcement when it comes to proper footwear. They’ll enforce if they are in mood too.
4.) Depending on what employee is working, some Employees will ask to see your ID to use the massage chairs and some won’t even ask. The rules are not followed at all.
5.) Overall, I would visit a different planet fitness gym for your needs.

Unfortunately, this was one of my more disappointing visits to a Planet Fitness. I chose this location because I read reviews that said it was spacious and not too crowded during the day, but I found that many people were monopolizing the smith machines without any consideration for others waiting. When I politely asked how many sets they had left, their responses were surprisingly rude and dismissive. After waiting over 30 minutes and still not being able to start my workout, I eventually just left. I really hope management can encourage better gym etiquette or look into solutions for more equipment availability. After my experience here, I’ll not be coming back to this location.

I believe routine visits to Planet Fitness provide you with the quickest way to get in shape and to stay in shape. Planet Fitness is good for your overall well-being. You should also be aware that personal training sessions are included in your membership I have had four training sessions with Demetrius who is excellent and has greatly improved my form and technique. My only criticism which is minor is patrons should not be allowed to leave their personal belongings on the machines, walk away, and come back expecting to have the machine available to them. The machines are for all of us to share in one happy environment and we should make the machines available to others. I’m other words take your belongings off the machine you are using before you go to the restroom etc.

The app is super easy to use and has tutorials on the machines. The staff are friendly and helpful and not judgmental at all. It's easy to bring a guest with a black card (just flash a QR code and that's it) and even the videos for home workouts are beginner-friendly and kind. And the app has a bar graph so you can see how crowded the gym is before you go, which is super convenient.

Unfortunately, you can't bookmark videos that you want to continue to use. So I'm hoping they fix that in the future. But it does communicate workouts to My Health if you set it that way, so between that and My Fitness Pal, all exercise tracking and calorie tracking talk to each other without any extra work on my part.

Please stop moving the smith machines out of the mirrors views. They’re supposed to be facing the mirrors. Instead you’re putting the smith machines between the mirrors, and you put unused equipment like spare benches and weight racks in front of the mirrors. It makes no sense. 4 smith machines, 4 mirrors. Figure it out. I recently checked out the Great Neck location, and my experience has been pretty positive.

The gym offers a good amount of equipment, and I love the new additions they added to this facility (specifically the hack squat machines). The facility is relatively cleaner than a lot of the gyms in the area.

I checked out the gym around the rush hour period, and it can feel constricting in the weightlifting area. Due to the smaller space, it did feel humid in that specific section, and I hope the facility can improve the air circulation. The cardio/equipment by the locker rooms were fine.

Overall, it’s a Planet Fitness. It’s not going to be as great as private gym (heavier dumbbells, better equipment,etc.). As a commercial gym, it provides a solid workout, and I would recommend this gym if you are looking for an affordable gym.

I signed up for a $1 trial. They took my debit card inform which i thought was weird but I figured it was only to keep on record. But no... this place was taking out $29 every month for almost one year!!!!!!!

A bit over $400 was taken from my bank overall... I never spent more than 35 mins the first day and here's why...

The place is underground and the smell of sweat was almost unbearable. The place was overall so disgusting and wiggled with just as gross people. I really couldnt stay for more than 40 mins and I wanted to never step foot into the place again. The locker/shower room was also gross and very minimal kept up. Just overall sad and disappointing.

I tried to get a hold of someone higher up for my refund of more than $400 but no use...They never responded and it shows it's a bunch of scum working there. This type of sleezy practice of robbing people needs to stop and if anyone knows of any class action I would like to know.

My schedule allows me to go during off peak hours when I can use equipment without waiting/crowds. The shopping center in which it is located often becomes messy and unkempt but that is nobody's fault. I appreciate the staff being there and I never feel rushed nor unwanted. I am so grateful for the price and to have a place I can go to maintain my sanity and stay active.

This PF is extremely dirty and filled with creeps who love to stare at you and make you feel uncomfortable. The employees are extremely unprofessional and on their phones or judging the gym goers. There is little to no cleaning done and it is filled with inches of dust. Better working out from home than coming here to get harassed. + people getting freaky in the parking lot where there are kids.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
This is the worst Planet Fitness location I have ever been to. I've been coming here for over a year now (out of necessity, as it's the only gym close enough to me to work into my schedule). First of all, the gym is FILTHY. It's never clean, bathrooms are always overflowing with water and out of paper towels. Every morning, several of the members (not employees, gym members) have to re-rack the dumbbell area as the staff cannot be bothered to arrange the weights in order. If something breaks, it takes 2-3 months for a repair to be made. To top it all off, the gym opens late quite often, or sometimes not at all. Today, for instance, was a 5:30 AM opening time. As of this writing at 6:15 AM, the gym is not open. Just a complete mess of a gym. Not sure if it's ownership or management, but something needs to change here.

Let's also not forget the scandal last year of an employee recording women in the tanning station.

No AC on the upper floor section where all the weights are, only one fan that does not circulate enough air. It feels like a sauna. Weights are consistently being left all over the place and not put back in their original spots. Smith machines are a free for all, there should be a line or something so no one is arguing about who came first.

When it’s not closed for no reason and the workers get it together enough to show up on time, this gym is maybe a 5/10.
Once you do get in though you have half a chance of being able to get paper towels from the machines because they’re almost always broken. If you wanna use the bathroom make sure you’re paying attention since the women’s room toilet has been leaking for 3 months creating a flood on the floor nobody seems to take care of. Don’t worry though - the employees behind the desk make sure to do their own workouts while the gym is open so they’ll be in great shape

Disgusting. The equipment sanitizers are either missing or empty, people are working out without being able to clean after themselves so easily germs are being spread. And the trash all over the floors is ridiculous.

I like this gym and the atmosphere and the staff is very nice. My only complaint is the shower area is filthy. I use this location only once a week and for the past few weeks when I go to shower after my workout, the same hair is all over the shower stall Every week I go. I now just change my clothes and leave and shower home because of the shower area is. It’s more convenient to shower there and go back to work and having to stop home first and shower but I guess I’ll have to do that from now on

You get what you pay for... it's not horrible, but it gets the job done. But with multile broken equipment that doesnt even get fixed, design issues of the space/layout, lack of quality equipment, lack of different variety equipment and new equipment that most gyms now carry (this gym has the typical stuff), and the screaming at the members 10 minutes prior to closing... If another gym was close by and even if I had to pay a little more, I'd go there...
Please find a better way to announce closing... we're not in the army as recruits in boot camp...

Guys don’t use lockers inside close to shower today .. every lockers locks was open and vandalized.. be aware don’t use lockers ..

The Great Neck gym gets incredibly crowded on weeknights, which makes working out here a huge challenge. With only four Smith machines, there's usually a long wait just to get started. Benches and free weights are also in short supply, especially dumbbells between 25 and 50 pounds. My friend and I often end up waiting 10 to 20 minutes just for a machine to open up, and once we start, someone is already asking how many sets we have left.

I've visited several Planet Fitness locations in Connecticut at well. Although Great Neck has a much higher population than most CT towns, its gyms stock the same amount of equipment, ignoring the significant difference in population density.

We have busy schedules and are often just looking for a quick and efficient workout at the end of the day and we rarely can do so at this location. Adding more equipment would make a big difference.

The place is horrible. Only 2 out of 6 stairmasters work. They’ve been fixing for 2 weeks a very important part of the gym that they said they were going to finish in 2 days (incredibly annoying, and I don’t even see people fixing the place). The decoration of the place is awful, the ceilings are black, the whole building is black, why!!???????

Dirty bathrooms, they smell super bad, the facilities are filthy, in the massage chair areas you can smell filth, I have tried to talk to the people who work there and they say that they can't do anything, I should get the complaint in an email, I have gone at different times and I have never seen anyone cleaning, if I go at 5am it dawns disgusting, if I go at 3pm, 6pm worse, I do not recommend this location.

Usually not as busy as the other locations. My biggest problem are the massage machines. I prefer the beds and they are either always broken or a staff member has to manually turn them on. The other day I got off of one and went back to the front desk and a different employee told me they were broken. I said I literally just got off of one they aren’t broken and you have to manually put in the code to let me use it. Nope. He wouldn’t do it. 10 minutes later another staff member put me on. It’s very frustrating that I pay extra every month and I’m constantly encountering this problem at this location, so I usually just go to the location in Carle Place as it is better managed

Planet fitness kept asking me via email to leave a review. So ill give them a piece of my mind. This great neck location is arguably the nicer and bigger of the planet fitness's and would be almost perfect if you can monitor and resolve these 3 issues :
1) Half of the hand sanitizer pumps are always out . Particularly the ones up the stairs towards the back. PF strives to be sanitary and clean so please practice what you preach
2) The garbage cans overflow. This is a sanitary problem. This happens especially during peak hours between 5-8pm weekdays
3) Finally, theft problems. So far twice this year and march hasn't even started so this is definitely alarming. There has been a thief or thieves clipping locks in the mens locker room and stealing members personal belongings. Staff and members should be on the lookout and planet fitness needs to have security awareness looking around to make sure the building is safe and secure. Dont be afraid to speak up if you see anything suspicious

Loud music give severe headache. Cannot enjoy gym peacefully.
Even 5.30am in the morning very loud music . They don't realized every one have ear pods to listen their own music or listen listening the TV voice .
I think twice every day to go or not to go as I am afraid of listening to loud music and get headache instead of peace of mind and relax
