Since the Blink-to-PureGym conversion, this place has completely fallen apart. Even entering the gym is now a ridiculous hassle—just look at the photo above: 7am on a Saturday and there’s a line of 20 people waiting to get in. Before the conversion, getting inside was quick and easy. Now you have to scan into this awkward “ventricular” glass turnstile that’s broken half the time and slows everyone down.

Once you finally get inside, things aren’t any better. A lot of the machines are old, worn out, or just outdated, so there are often long lines to use basic equipment. Staff are basically nonexistent, and wiping napkins are missing more often than not. The whole gym feels neglected and poorly run.

If you have the option to go anywhere else, save your valuable time. PureGym is absolutely not worth it.

First off. Like the other reviews have said that this place looks dull and depressing. At least when Blink was in charge they added some color. My membership got canceled without any notification ever since blink was changed to PureGym. No emails. No notifications. I just kept on scanning my card without anybody telling me that my membership had been canceled since September. Contacting customer service and it takes a week for them to respond. How was I supposed to know that my membership was canceled when people working at blink just kept letting me in without telling me? They claim I got an email but I haven’t got the email. It’s more like they wanted to cancel membership for the ppl who had the old price at Blink and force you to sign for their new price plan. Very disappointed in their customer service.

PureGym on Nostrand ave and Y is hands-down the most disgusting, soul-destroying gym experience I've ever had the misfortune of paying for.
The waiting times for equipment are criminal. Peak hours? Forget it - you'll spend 25 minutes hovering around the machines with people occupying them.
The atmosphere is genuinely depressing. Grey walls, dull lights that make everyone look dead, and a constant smell of stale sweat and cheap protein farts, TVs up high transmitting some dumb entertainement and awful it feels like punishment. It’s like working out inside a budget airline terminal that’s been converted into a prison gym. Zero vibes, zero motivation - you leave feeling worse than when you arrived.
PureGym is what happens after the Blink is gone and when someone decides to make the cheapest possible gym and removes every last shred of human decency. It’s not a gym, it’s a petri dish with dumbbells. Save your money and your dignity - go literally anywhere else. This place is disgusting on every possible level.

I love this location. I am updating my review from the last time the survey was sent to me. I continue to rate 4 stars because things can always be better. I would suggest more plate loaded machines as opposed to the stack loaded machines as the plate loaded have a much more smooth feel. I also suggest having more of the 2.5lb (1.25kg) increments to add onto the cables. There are only two right now for the whole gym. More sets of the popular dumbbells as well! The new pod system entry is also quite dreadful during peak hours. I overall love being a member here :)

The service here has been changed significantly since June 2025. I usually go with my son and we used mobile app to check in. Sometimes they used to check in by phone number him whenever he forgot his device. Today he was refused to check in without phone referring to new policies. I had a blink membership for years. My contracted rate was about $16/month. Come this new “Puregym” buyout, mysteriously hundreds of membership payments stopped going through, and automatically cancelled, forcing whoever wanted to continue to be a member to purchase a NEW membership at double the rate. It has been confessed by staff members that it was NOT the members fault the card payments weren’t going through, (my card was absolutely fine.) this is not only an absolutely DISGUSTING tactic to earn more money, it’s dishonest and maybe even illegal.

If I could give Blink Fitness zero stars, I would. I have been a loyal member since 2021, never once had an issue, and always paid on time. After recovering from surgery, I returned to the gym only to be told there was a balance due. I paid it immediately on the spot, but was then informed that my membership had already been canceled without any proper notification.

Since then, I have tried repeatedly to get answers. I’ve reached out to the local management, corporate offices, and customer service, but no one has helped. Every time I call, I’m told, “We’ll let the manager know,” yet no one ever follows up. I’ve been given nothing but the runaround.

What makes this even worse is that the missed payment was not my fault. Blink Fitness changed their system and app, which caused automatic payments to fail for many members—not just me. Instead of taking responsibility for this mistake, they chose to cancel my membership and now want me to pay the joining fee all over again, despite the fact that I already paid it four years ago.

This is absolutely unacceptable. A company that refuses to stand by its long-time members and take accountability for its own system errors does not deserve anyone’s business.

This is a great gym, I started working out in this gym last week Tuesday as a Junior Gray Membership. Compared to my previous gym, this gym has more stuff, more weight machines, and lockers and bathrooms better than my school gym. My previous gym is at my school as a school gym and it is for 1 hour after school. I worked out here 1.5 to 2 hours using Push Pull and Legs.

This gym is an absolute joke. It is dirty and zero effort to keep things clean. The staff is clueless, and the manager is completely useless and rude.

Became a member in 2022 and work out here consistently 4-5 days a week in the afternoons. There’s a group of kids (mostly short and skinny) who come in after school and hang out, run around, play and push each other, have bumped into me during my work out, they’re loud, crowd around and hog equipment, sit on top of the free weights by the changing rooms, etc etc etc. None of the staff says anything or addresses the issue. I’m not the only person who is annoyed because I’ve seen and heard other members speak to them. Yesterday while using the leg press they came over to the bench press (about 7) and was playing around getting in my way. I spoke to them several times saying watch your back, behind you and excuse me while trying to add 45lb weight plates (someone is going to get hurt). The kids are rude. If Blink is going to welcome in the youngins, someone needs to be walking around and monitoring what’s going on. The staff looks and then looks away. They look young as well and have no sense of what’s going on. It’s disappointing and annoying that they allow this behavior when members just want to get in a good work out. On another note, the new machines are great, however the leg press area is dangerously crowded and the equipment is way too close. If you’re not careful, you can hit your back on the leg press machine while trying to add weight to the one you’re using. The bench press is very close to it as well as the squat rack. Someone is bound to get hurt if it remains so close. It needs to be rearranged yet again and left that way. Seems like the equipment is constantly being moved.

UPDATE: I changed the stars from 1 to 3…for now. Thank you for your response, I appreciate it. The equipment has been rearranged to make the layout more fluid and easier to maneuver between machines during and after you’re done. The jury is still out on those badly behaving kids but there appears to be new staff so maybe it will/has been addressed. Thank you.

I like everything except of Air Conditioning in women wardrobe. I visit this location for one year and asking a lot of times to make it less, because you’re just freezing inside. But no change. After exercising and before it’s really challenging to change clothes in this Alaska wardrobe.

I recently joined this gym after trying it out with a day pass. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, and the equipment is great. However, I’ve had a deeply concerning experience that needs to be addressed.

During my trial visit, another member made inappropriate, racially charged comments toward me. At the time, I brushed it off, hoping it was a one-off incident. However, after officially joining, I saw the same person again. This time, they went as far as cursing me out, completely unprovoked.

This behavior is unacceptable in any setting, but especially in a gym that should be a safe and welcoming space for everyone. Given the large and diverse Asian community in this neighborhood, it’s disheartening to experience such blatant disrespect.

I urge management to take this issue seriously and ensure that all members are treated with respect. Clear policies, training for staff, and a zero-tolerance approach to harassment would go a long way in creating a better environment for everyone.

The gym has hardly any free weights yet over half of the treadmills are empty. It's virtually impossible to get a barbell during the day, which is when most people are able to work out due to busy work schedules. However, the gym is very clean and the staff is very nice, which is why I won't rate it 1 star.

Update: So the gym eventually did add more equipment. It's still slightly lacking in terms of quantity, but the fact that they listened to all the complaints and made adjustments is still much appreciated.

I remember getting kicked out for wearing closed-toe Crocs in (sports mode), while another individual was allowed to hog seven different sets of dumbbells and work out barefoot. It was pretty disgusting if you ask me. Additionally, this person had an open cut on their ankle area, and their toenails made you imagine how it smelled. Despite the gym's efforts to be 'friendly', it's always the skinny kids who think their body is as big as their egos who ruin the gym experience. This gym has been in a constant decline for years. I guess that's what happens when the staff/management are way younger than the crowd and have more time to play around than to actually implement common gym etiquette and rules. Sad.

One of my favorite gyms to visit. It can get a bit crowded at times and you may have to wait for machines, but it’s all good here.
I’m able to do what I need to do and get a great workout in.

I think the music needs to be a bit diverse though, and not solely focused on one particular genre but to cater to everyone.

Staff can be a bit more welcoming and friendly considering that our membership pays their salaries. Some speak and some do not sometimes when I enter the gym. Although, I’m not here to make friends, it can be a welcoming environment.

Out of the 4 other Blink fitness gyms I tried, where 1 location is literally 3 minutes away from my home, sheepshead location is by far the best. It’s my place to unwind! Because of the distance i leave home at 4:30 get there at 5 workout for an hour shower and head to work. The staff is very friendly/helpful. The staff here is atrocious.

My wife has been a member for one year. She is disabled (spastic quadriplegic) and goes 3-4 times a week with her home health aide. Her helper does not use the equipment, she is only there to assist her getting from her chair to the apparatus. On multiple occasions they prevented her from working out because her caregiver was not in workout clothes (wearing jeans, crocs, et al.) They were VERY rude and condescending when speaking with them.

My wife was an inspiration to many members. People stop her on the street in our neighborhood and tell her how much she motivated them, seeing her consistent effort and dedication despite her physical limitations.

She finally got fed up with the poor treatment from the staff. When she went in person to cancel her membership, they responded to her complaints about why she was quitting with "Oh you don't even pay for your membership." Baloney! She does not receive the gym membership as part of her benefits or any government program. She paid full rate out of pocket - completed 1-year contract then switched to Blue monthly.

(REGARDLESS, that doesn't give the staff the right to treat her poorly bc they mistakenly believed she wasn't a member who paid out of pocket...I digress.)

She came home in tears today. She loves working out and was so content to have a gym nearby. I went in and talked to the Assistant Manager about her concerns. Absolutely clueless about how to resolve any issue, just straight by the book "well that's our policy."

What a garbage company. No empathy or concern whatsoever.

Attention to everyone who wants to go to this location please stay away from the guy in front desk with glasses hes rude and didn’t gave us any option he was talking with us while he was playing the games on the phone, didn’t even look at us even ones I don’t think this guy actually deserves to work anywhere no customer service avoid go somewhere else thank you
