Itβs falling apart and itβs a shame. Most of the equipment doesnβt work, ceiling coming down, and seems like the AC is out. Donβt waste your money, go elsewhere because the owners do not care about this place.

I like that whenever I go it isn't crowed. I like that they offer classes and the place seems clean. However, I would like if they could implement a rule : If you are not taking the class please do not stand at the door and watch the students inside. It's very uncomfortable and annoying to have grown men just stand at the door way and watch me in class and make comments and remarks or laugh while AT the door. It's inappropriate. I don't see this happen at the Church Ave location (maybe it does). Please tell people - No standing at the door and watching. Especially the men.

I signed up in May of 2016...since then I have moved to NJ. They wonβt allow me to leave the contract without jumping through hoops! The anniversary of the date I signed up is coming up, I AM NOT ABLE TO JUST LEAVE THE CONTRACT ON THIS DAY! Imagine living in an entirely different state, and paying for a service you cannot use! This location has one working stair master, lack luster classes, and less than helpful staff! Itβs not worth the headache.

**Update** itβs 8:20 am on Saturday and patrons are gathering outside waiting for the gym to open. This is the second time this week Iβve waited for the gym to open and no one shows to open up. Unbelievable.
This is by far the worst gym Iβve ever come across. At least 1-2x a week no one shows to open the gym at 5:00 am. Patrons gather out front and no one shows. Constant electrical problems / fires about once a quarter that leave the gym closed for days. The water fountain has been broken for 2 years; you have to drink sink water. Itβs clear this gym owner doesnβt care for his customers or his establishment. If I could give 0 stars I would.

I had been going to Blink but needed classes Retro is right accross the street. First thing I noticed was filthy, broken doors as I walked in. Thrn the SMELL......I cant deal with smells that strong like no ventilation. All the info was placed on the desk for you to read as I read the front deak person NEVER greeted me and continued to FLIRT with a member. Im like what ever im still reading she did answer any questions I asked but she gave me NO reason to join or insentive, no kid area, no sauna, no steam room and its very unclean.

So I am givibg 3 stars because of their drama. I enjoyed my actual visits to this gym. However, it all went down hill when I decided to cancel because it was too far for me and because the timing was not working out. I tried to find one closer to home which would be one in Queens but unfortunately I they do not offer the same classes. Thus my dilemma. A friend of mine told me I could pause my membership which I requested. But lost my bank card and had to get a new one.
I went in and told them I would like to cancel my membership they said they could no do it in store and that you have to go through ABC financial. However, they requested back the key card which was returned to them. I contacted ABC several times no response nothing. Few months later collections. I asked them to send me a bill with all the scamming going on. I get a lot of scam likely calls which theirs came up as one of them. Still No bill therefore I am fighting through the credit bureau to have the negative impact remove.
That's a workout for ya.
Advice this might happen with any gym...... Be careful.
You cancel and give back the little key card but you still got to keep paying.

I have been a member of this gym for over 4 years and I have never felt so disrespected as I did today. I voiced my concerns about the unsanitary conditions of the ceiling on the lower level of the gym (from reading yelp and google reviews I see I wasn't the only one). I wanted to know when they would be repaired because I felt unsafe and honestly skeeved out working out under certain machines because they were directly under the missing tiles. Mr. Russell Knight's response was short and some of the comments he made were inappropriate. He said; "You don't have to look at it" and when I said I am a paying customer and have a right to ask questions he then asked if " I buy smoothies" I began to do what any person in 2018 does; record him as evidence for myself just in case he attempts to deny this encounter and because of that he banned my membership. Maybe this is a blessing is disguise being that working out under those conditions gave me the heebie jeebies but Mr. Knight needs to learn how to respond with more tact.
Update: 10/20/18
I stand by my words and the other comments have reinterated my interaction with Mr. Russel; you don't know how to talk to customers plain and simple. But I thank you for canceling my membership because Blink is HEAVEN!!!! smells clean, it's always clean, and the manager is RESPECTFUL. If you guys are looking for a clean gym join Blink.

Good gym. Fully equipped. Comfortable. Convenient location. Sometimes a rowdy bunch comes in, and my anxiety kicks in. Early mornings are peaceful. It's like a home gym. Female staff are really nice. The place is clean. The water fountain needs fixing, but if you're looking for a quick resulting workout, this is the place. Blink is for weaklings. Both Flatbush and Church locations are awesome.

I only come here as a last resort because it's so close to home. The stair master has been broken for about 5 months now at least. The facilities are beyond filthy. The gym-goers rarely clean after themselves. It's run like a back yard. Barely any amenities. No towels, the soap dispensers are usually empty, the carpets in the locker areas are the filthiest I've ever seen. Despite the staff dealing with less-than-ideal circumstances, the staff are so sweet and nice and accommodating. Not really expecting from a cheap gym but whatever. Oh and not to mention that the speakers are always blasting trap music on max. It's not my choice of music but the problem is that I can still hear it with my headphones on full blast. Oh and I really wonder why they invested in wifi since it barely works- just like everything else at this facility. Mananger is also very unprofessional. I accidentally walked into the Male locker room because I was looking at my phone (admitted my mistake), well he was walking by and decided to yell at me and make fun of me so that he could bring everyone's attention to me. I apologized but was genuinely dismayed that he would go so far out of his way to shame me. In conclusion, if you are serious about fitness, skip this gym.

Went to this gym because I am away from my home gym. The person at the front desk who claims to be the manager, he says his name is Russle Knight was one of the rudest unprofressional worker I ever met. I didn't have my gym card with and u gave him my name like I do at every other business when I don't have the membership card. He told me "I can't look you up in the system you have to call your gym." Insaid no problem can you give me the number. He told me to Google it. I said you can't give me the number. He said he would have to look it up. I said okay and told him his customer service was lacking and if I could speak to the manager. He proudly said "I am the manager" I asked for his name and informed him I would speak to someone. He said as I was leaving good luck with that.
Yes I should have had my card.yes I could have looked it up but there was.no reason for this gentlemen to talk to me like I was doing him a favor. My experience was him basically saying get out of my gym and don't come back. I was coming here to check it out for my girlfriend who does live in the neighborhood. I won't be back and neither will she. Thanks retro fitness!

My husband and I go to this location because itβs the one closest to home. With that being said, parking is always a pain since everyone parks here to go across to Target or to the TD bank and itβs inconvenient for us because sometimes we have to be driving around for a while or just waiting in our cars until a parking spot opens. Every time we want to use the only stair master machine they have itβs always out of service. Benches are constantly either torn or covered in tape. Restrooms constantly are dirty and smell disgusting. The ventilation downstairs is not that great either and in the summer itβs only worse so you can imagine all the types of fun smells you have to endure. Half of the mirrors are broken or also covered in tape. Thereβs like maybe 10 different songs being played at the same time by different people with their speakers or phones which is annoying and thatβs because I have my headphones & can still hear them. I donβt wanβt to be listening to other peopleβs choice of music I thought thatβs what headphones were for. I really wish they would enforce this more like they do in other gyms. We literally just try to get in our workout as quickly as we can, so we can just leave just as quick, as frankly itβs unfortunate because weβve been to many other Retro Fitness locations & gyms in general and we know what a gym should actually look & feel like. Really hope they can take care of some of these things and it would actually be an area where we would want to work out & enjoy it like anywhere else. Other than that this gym gets the job done I suppose but it could be way much better.

I joined retro fitness back on Long Island. The retro fitness there was amazing and fantastic. Clean, pristine, and had great vibes and equipment. Then I moved to brooklyn in September and going to Retro fitness at the Junction feels like I'm walking into a smelly sauna filled with crappy equipment and and a very broken gym. First off, if you look closely at a lot of the equipment, it has broken latches and handles and their solution to it was taping it together. I dont pay $20 a month for tape fixes. Second, the basement free weight area is horrible. The glass is broken and also fixed with tape. The weights are rarely organized (I work out at 6 am and even then its unorganized), and the lights dont even work. Just yesterday four major lights were blown out and I practically worked out in the dark. It was depressing and ruining the vibes of lifting. Moreover, the water fountain seems like it's from Capetown, South Africa, there is no water coming out. That's absurd considering hydration is key for working out. The locker room smells worse than a regular high school locker room. They dont have proper weight scales and just have one tiny 20$ digital machine upstairs which is inconvenient. You would think I must be privileged to complain like this, but I'll point you to across the street Blink Fitness, which at only $15 a month, is heaven on earth compared to the maintenance of this gym. The atmosphere, staff, and equipment is great at Blink. I was just watching UnderCover Boss yesterday and the CEO of retrofitness was on the show. He would certainly be disappointed with this specific franchise. They need to get their act together because over the course of 1 year of paying for this, the conditions have worsened. This franchise makes enough money to make the changes necessary. If they need a push, I think reporting them to Corporate will be a nice push. I love working out, and I switched from Blink to retro bc of my first great experience back in long island. But this gym has just ruined everything.

This gym isn't cheap. I pay around 23.99 a month. With that I think it's reasonable to expect to a pretty clean facility with good machines and weight availability. That's not what I got. The facility is far from clean. It has broken mirrors, lights that don't work, tears in almost ever leather bench press bench and overall just is plain dirty. The pictures of what Iβm describing can be found on my yelp review of this place. This is a retro fitness in a really populated area of Flatbush Brooklyn. It's unacceptable that the management won't use the revenue generated to better the facility. Real shame honestly, I love retro fitness but this one just makes me regret leaving the cheaper cleaner blink fitness for retro fitness. Russell Knight if you are reading this I hope you take note of my complaints rather than just trying to defend yourself. I have submitted a complain to corporate with images of the dirtiness and broken items around the gym hopefully some change will be eminent.

YO!!! WHY the men's locker room floor always smells like Cheetos, wet socks, and boiled ocra Get a new rug! The tow guy overdoses with towing! Love the hip hop played, but Flatbush people like variety. And it's true the floors are dirty due to the layout. It help if the patrons had a change of sneakers with them and the main path cleaned and deodorized more frequently. If I workout on the floor my close get soiled from the floor and my skin gets irritated. I'm forced to go sister gyms. The free weights area needs to be expanded.
Cause it's always crowed. Older patrons shouldn't be camped out on the benches smh.
The battle ropes look nappy, and another set missing. Sak pase to my Haitian crew but y'all maaaaaaad loud. To the regular people they would think they was down in Tasmania respect the quiet rules. I got faith in this location, just clean more and switch up the layout. The cardio section needs to be consolidated with theater so more free weights could be used. Peace

Iβve had this membership for a while but rarely go and I regret ever starting an account with this gym. The few times that Iβve gone the people at the front were rude and the place literally smelled like sh** itβs filthy in this gym. My boyfriend goes way more than me, they actually locked him in the gym one night and he fire department has to come and let him and some other guy out I told him he shouldβve busted the freakin windows out! The last time I went with my boyfriend some ignorant fool comes up to us and says hey you canβt help her you donβt want it to look like your training her itβs not allowed, so Iβm not allowed to get tips from my boyfriend? And maybe I should go back and act like heβs training me so that I can get my membership canceled either that or call help me Howard! There is no way that you should be able to walk into a gym sign up but in order to cancel you have to send a certified letter and wait 60 days for a response. These people have a lawsuit in their near future!

Joined Retro gym a year ago because I LOVE THE VARIETY OF CLASSES. Many gyms don't offer classes anymore. Although, they cut back on several classes. The CLASSES I have attended were EXCELLENT.
In reading previous reviews, I hope in the future not to experience any customer service, membership/trainer cancellation or facility up keeping issues. Because I am all about a PROFESSIONAL AND CLEANLY ATMOSPHERE.
I do BELIEVE ALL EMPLOYEES REGISTERING NEW MEMBERS should also verbally notify customers of: What's included in their membership, all fees and medical suspension/cancellation guidelines.

The gym could be better maintained. I am passing through Brooklyn so I paid a day pass to check it out yesterday. I have been to many gym so please listen to me and the other customers when we say that this gym is not clean. The room to do personal workout has a dirty floor - I was blown away by this. The trash containers could be more presentable as well. Remember, it is all about appearance. The things I liked were the amount of equipments in the gym and a punching bag in the basement. I am checking out Blink today. I would go to this gym if they improve their cleanliness and appearance.

All these bad reviews are here for a reason. They don't keep the place clean or maintained. It would be one thing if it was cheaper than other gyms but it's not. Blink fitness which is around the corner is cheaper and nicer. On top of that they will scam you into a year contract. They offered me and my friend a discount if we sign up for a full year and we told them that we would rather take it a month at a time. Now 2 months later my friend tried to cancel his membership due to personal matters which will make it impossible for him to continue coming. The person behind the counter told him that on one of the papers he signed it says he's committed to a full year!
If ur looking for a gym do urself a favor and sign up to blink or if u want u could go a couple of blocks up to harbor. This gym will scam u and there are way better gyms in the neighborhood.
I wrote this review about a week ago. I just opened it out of curiosity to see if anyone from the gym responded. To my surprise (although I could honestly say from this point forward nothing this gym will do is going to surprise me anymore) they respond as you can see below that I wrote this on all the other locations. Well I gotta say this gym deserves an award for being the most meticulously full s*** business I've ever dealt with. You would think they only scam on a large scale ie tricking people into contracts. Well apparently if u leave them a bad review they fabricate some bs! Looking through the reviews I see I'm not the only who they're playing this game with. Oh and do me a favor don't send me your customer service number. I don't have the interest or time to sit with them for hours on what's prob going to be a massive waste of everyone's time BEC what r the chances that they're r actually going to do anything. On top of that you guys screw me and then have the audacity to tell me that I should go and call customer service like this is a customer service issue. How about instead of giving me some bs response just cancel my membership and we can all go on our separate paths and live happily ever after!!!

RUSSELL KNIGHT is the worst manager EVER! Very unprofessional and should lose his job! I had payments with Metro fitness for a very long time. Multiple times I came to the faculty and we got into an issue of being charged excessively after I canceled my account SENT CANCELLATION LETTER . Even after speaking to ABC financial regarding to the issue he only lied to them and say that I didn't send the paperwork and when I called back to to speak to him he's busy all day now??????? very unprofessional and I was going to let him know this review is going to go up the representative that he was too busy to take my call!!!!!! after he got off the phone with them two minutes ago these people just love Taking people taking their money.
Even after the issue where they sent me a email saying if I Let anyone use my retro card it will be cancelled THAT WASNT EVEN THE CASE! THESE PEOPLE ARE MIS USING THEIR POWER THE WORST PART ME BEING LOG TERM WITH THEM FOR THEM TO DO THIS VERY SICKEN! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND ANY ONE TO THIS GYM THEIR TERM AND AGREEMENT VERY MESSY ! DO YOUR SELF A FAVOR STICK WITH CRUNCH FITNESS!!!!!!!!!!
Even after I sent my cancellation paperwork to them. They don't have Any notice of it ! They need New Mangement LIKE I SAID WORST MANGER EVER!!!!!!!!! Extremely dissatisfied NEVER AGAIN.

This would of been a good gym to work out at and do cardio but it is infested with loud music from the patrons that play their loud hip hop music from their own personal speakers they bring in the next application at the staff in this extinguishment hears and sees what is going on and says nothing about it there is tons of cursing and bad behavior. Harbor fitness may be overpriced but it brings a better experience overall.

Very small and it made me feel very uncomfortable. I hid away in the little theatre the entire time. But what took the cake was the staff hitting on me and not leaving me alone. When I asked to cancel my membership they made me write some BS one-sentence letter to some unknown person explaining why I was quitting. And they photocopied it and gave me that copy as if it's evidence I'm supposed to keep. I'm glad I left and never looked back.

Do not sign up!!! Beware of signing up to this gym. Once you sign up its a nightmare getting out of contract. The gym dosent receive cancellations, only the corporate office does. They never responded to my request for cancelation and now I have billing agencies chasing me for money.

This company deserves zero stars. I authorized the them to take automated monthly payments from my account. However a year later when I had a death in the family, lost my job and needed to move I informed them of my circumstance. They said I needed to come in person to the office to speak with the manager. I made an appointment and came in. I was told they would adjust my payment briefly and then gave me the run around about sending in a certified letter to them so they could review it and decide whether or not I could cancel my membership. When I called headquarters they said they could not cancel over the phone that I had to contact the gym. They eventually sold my case to a bill collector and reported my my bill to the credit Bureau. Please stay far away from this business, it is shady and not worth it. I have warned everyone that I could about them. They have lost a customer for life and have horrible customer service. I have contacted the BBB to hopefully bring to light their fraudulent, and unethical practices.

Had a terrible experience with Russell, the manager. Very rude.... never deal with him...if you can avoid going there, never do so only because of him. Speaking to him is like speaking to a brick wall......he won't even hear you out.

Once you sign up, you're signed up for life. You need to follow a lot of bureaucracy. However, the gym is good if you plan to be a member for life.

Read your contract carefully. It takes 3 months after your contract is up to cancel and they will keep charging you on top of it. Not worth it.

i had very bad experience with new management on June 17th. The woman who was working the front was very rude to the guest who paid and was a potential person who was willing to sign up but simply didn't want to because of the terrible customer service. I was not going to write a review but the bad experience has been sitting in my head.

Try your best NOT to sign up a contract. It may cost you a lit more for a monthly bases membership, BUT its better off. Like many, to save $, I signed up a 1-year contract and went to gym zero (0) times :( . As a professional Engineer and a busy New Yorker, my sched. is really really packed, but still signed up due to heavy sales pitch of their "sales people". At the end of the day they are interested in your $, obviously! lol.... who is not?
My membership expired about 13 months ago, but they will never tell you or stop charging your bank account. To cancel they gave me a lots of run around. This is why I would agree w/ one of the reviews above saying that a manager is never available and that's very true (as every time I went in to cancel my account the manger was never avail....even over the phone, lol)....especially when they know you wish to cancel.
Finally, as advised, I mailed a cancelation letter (w/ account pertinent info) via US mail to stop my account and still have to wait another 60-days for it to be effective. So, keep in mind that the contract is written by Retro Fitness/ Business's attorneys, obviously to favor and protect them, and not you. Thus do NOT be naΓ―ve to expect mercy and fairness :( .
They made the cancellation process so difficult to discourage people from even thinking about reimbursement of any fees they NEVER utilized at first place. #corporateRulescutthroatsmileGreed

Great classes and instructors however the class studio and spin room is a freaking sauna! How on earth can they conduct classes in 90 degree weather without AC or fans? That's insane!

I'm leaving this review on-behalf of a friend.
You can never speak to a manager. The employees say that they never know when the manager is going to be at the location, you have to leave a message and expect a call-back. I don't know if they were instructed to say this or if it's simply bad business.
Before you join know that to cancel is a pain, you have to send a certified letter to the main office and then wait two months after the letter is received before your membership can be cancelled. You also have to find the manager (the same one that's hard to find) to cancel any personal training contract separately from the overall gym membership. So yes, you can cancel the gym membership but if you can't find the manager, continue to be billed for personal training services after you contract is cancelled.
It's in a great location, but Planet Fitness is very similar but doesn't give you the same hassle with cancelling or speaking to a manager if you have any issues.

The equipment and cleanliness of the environment is the saving grace of this gym. It has the flaws of your typical commercial gyms, ill informed meatheads that spew gym locker room broscience, those would be the same types to not do full ROM on any compound or isolation movements and think everyone goes to the gym to train like a bodybuilder. They're way too loud and alot of the actual workers there sound like they don't even understand how the human body works (e.g.Was told that squatting ATG is bad for your knees.) Lmfao. This type of misinformation is a big problem. Other than the type of people at the gym it's really a great place to train. I've enjoyed my experience for the most part though, but beware the meatheads and the "back in my day" old folks that give poor advice whilst screaming and quarter repping several plates on the leg press smh.

What can I say, I have had trainers at several gyms over the years. Planet Fitness, Blink and Lucille Roberts. Retro is the only gym I joined and the trainer cancelled on me twice...no reason, just called and cancelled. I guess he doesn't need my change and I'm not giving any more then the monthly fees. My first day in there, the desk person told a client he knew, he wasn't happy to be there, in fact he said "it was unfortunate", I thought wow, okay. I also watched a man attempt to cancel his membership and was advised that the cancellation takes 90 days.
The reviews for this gym across the board are horrible. Had I reviewed them before joining, never would I have. Yet my goals only require me to go to a facility with the equipment I'm familiar with, (other trainers) and I'm good. I careless about friendly staff, enthusiastic staff, just check me in let me do what I came for and I'm out.

Beware they are fraudulent. I went to the gym in November to cancel my membership. The young man told me all was fine with the cancellation. About two months after the cancellation, I notice money was still being deducted from my account. I was moving to another state and went to the gym, they claimed that their systems were down and the manager is the one to do it, and she was out to lunch. I left my contact card and the membership card along with a note to stop my membership, no one contact me from that location. I got several calls from their collection agency regarding outstanding balance which I will not be paying. They are sick and can damage your credit. Be Very Very Very Very careful. I am very dissatisfied with their service. Zero ratings from this customer. p.s. I tried posting without the rating this site will not let you post unless you pretend to be satisfy with them. Hence the one star rating above. Funny....
