people are so lovely. Ava, Tomas, and Aj always greet you with a smile and and ask how you are! the new manager destinee, is absolutely wonderful, she Make sure that the gym is clean. The weights are racked. The equipment is up to par and fixed and she has a great personality and makes the gym environment, a great place to be in. The people that go to the gym are very friendly and encouraging, and it feels like you’re just working out and chilling with your family, the staff also makes these cute little videos in the gym and I think thats a great way to have fun at the job while promoting the gym.

I’ve been a member here since 2016. I’ve seen retro evolve through all sorts of phases. But I have to say with the recent renovations as well as the staff. There’s no other place I will go. The team are extremely friendly and make this gym feel more than that. I always feel welcomed everytime I walk in. Great community as everyone here helps each other.

I take weekly body toning classes with Lorelei and can honestly say it has made a difference for me physically and mentally. She lets everyone work at their own pace and keeps our fun and interesting. I just wish that had more equipment for the group classes.
The gym has also gotten a new employee, Nicole, who has made such a difference in making the gym clean and inviting. Lastly, it's always nice to see Destinee at the desk to greet you. 3 great people.

I’m not sure why this location is feeling the need to stick flyers on people’s cars. One is literally glued onto my car windshield from the sun because one of these workers stuck one on my car. The manager(Nikken) at this gym is unprofessional. Never once did I ever pay a maintenance fee for the gym and I’ve been coming here for years. I explained to him that the gyms dirty conditions which include no soap in bathroom dispensers, lights are out all over the gym, ac was broken for the whole summer, fan is disgustingly filled with dust, toilet seats are falling apart, machines don’t work. So that is reason I don’t want to pay the maintenance fee because instead of fixing things they do that they just take out money. Instead of waiving the fee for being a member for over 10 years he threatened me and canceled my membership. I asked him to speak to someone higher than him he told me contact corporate I did and they keep throwing me back to the local gym so basically keeping giving me the run around. Also this gym been through 3 managers in the past year and can’t figure it out but let me tell you Nikken is not the fix. He’s terrible he has no communication skills or customer skills.

I LOVE this gym!! It was renovated from the last time I went a few years back and looks beautiful! It’s always clean , all the machines and weights are always fully functional and it has a good variety! The new manager Nikkien is so nice and seems to care a lot about the gym and his staff as well as the members and also keeps the gym very clean and in great condition! Great staff, great environment. Shoutout to Ian and the woman behind the desk (never got her name) I misplaced my gym bag in the locker room and thought someone may have walked out with it accidentally. Went to the counter and the two of them were super helpful looking over security footage just for me to go back in there and find in a different locker than usual. I’m new to Retro and so far I’ve really been enjoying the atmosphere. I love how the equipment is visibly
organized based on the body part you want to work on which helps for beginners. They have smaller rooms with specific machines, massage chairs, a room for fitness classes which has a hint of blue led lights making it a more comfortable space for free weights for shy people like myself. Great staff, super friendly. And P.S. a smoothie bar. I’m a sucker for convenience, having all I need for a workout in one place, this gym is a great fit!

I love love love this gym! I have memberships to a few gyms in Suffolk and this one by far is the best. Machines and gym equipment are always available. The classes are great including Coach Nakim’s full body on Tuesday’s & Thursday at 5:30pm. He’s absolutely amazing and very knowledgeable. He will help you develop the right form to get and stay fit, I’m very happy with my results since I started. I’ve shed fat and gained a lot of muscle and I feel and look great!

Has a large selection of weight equipment and machines for its size. It would be nice to have more than 1 pair of dumbbells at the higher weights though. Generally everything is pretty clean and the temperature's usually comfortable. I don't interact much with the staff but they were friendly when I have.

Edit as of summer 2024: seems like the AC has broken for months at this point. Sometimes it's barely cooler inside when its 90 something degrees outside. Have to reduce the rating to 3 stars unfortunately.

Second update: the gym was completely renovated. There's now 4 racks/platforms and pretty much all equipment was replaced with new stuff. Bathroom's much better too.

Been going for 4 years now. My first 3 years there I can easily say this was a 2/5 maybe 3/5 gym at most… as you can see with the other reviews… not too great. But! Some great news is that after the remake this summer it’s easily a 5. Great new color scheme. Great staff. Plenty of space and equipment as well. Never have to wait for machines/equipment. Very very clean. Even the bathroom is clean the remake in there is crazy + the locker room as well. Also It’s not like LA fitness where the 120 lb dumbells is at the 15 lb dumbells section and the 30 lb is at the 75 lb. lol. And They got a bunch of good drinks too. All that for just 20 a month it’s great. Overall amazing gym easily 5/5.

The gym is packed today. Broken cable machines. At lease 1/3 of treadmills are down & have been as long as I can remember. One of 2 stairmasters still not functional. Water fountain filter has been flashing red for weeks & still not changed. And the worst part is most of the paper towels dispensers are empty the past 2 days in a row so far. People can't even clean up after their use even if they want to, and half the people here are high school newbies so they don't even try. Kids behind the counter could care less. If it were not for the proximity & my lack of time I'd never go here. It's cheap, and based on the services it provides, it damn well should be. Owners should really stop by and take a look. I've been to other retros and this isn't always the case. Truly a lack of care in this place and it shows.

I got there with my son. I wish there was a disabled military discount on memberships. Also the bathrooms are always a mess and all muggy. Seems like it would be contaminated with germs. There are many problems with this gym. The machines are rusted and breaking. The water fountain was out of order for months, and when they changed it for a filtered fountain, the light indicated that the water was not being filtered was always on. They never fixed the urinal, and one of the stall doors would never lock. 1 of the 3 showers had a light and a shower curtain. Broken lockers. Staff was kind but did not know how to do many electronic based tasks. If you want to cancel, you need to do it 30 days before your next renewal period, or you get charged. I wasn't aware because when I tried to cancel weeks in advance, the staff told me to cancel closer to my renewal date cause it was easier for them. When that time came, the staff said only the manager knew how to cancel memberships. I was still charged, and after many attempted calls, I finally learned about needing to cancel 30 days before the renewal period. This rule is ridiculous as some people will have to cancel abruptly as they will no longer be in the area ( like me ), and the staff don't even tell you until you cancel. Save 10 bucks and go to Planet Fitness or spend more and go to a better gym.

I really like the atmosphere at Retro. I like all the equipment they have available, especially the stair climber. I hope to start taking advantage of the classes they offer as well.
Edit: I’ve noticed a lot more machines have been out of order for awhile now. Including the second stair machine, which I think is an
essential piece of equipment to this gym and for my work out as well. It would be great to see them up and running in a timely fashion!
EDIT: Due to a change in jobs, I could no longer make time for the gym. I’ve tried to cancel 3 times- the first time I went in to cancel and they said they would. Then I got charged the next month and the month after that despite continually calling. I understand gyms don’t want to cancel memberships but this type of customer service is just bad.

Most of the equipment is not working(at all or properly) or badly damaged. Come here twice a week and it's been over a month that equipment hasn't been repaired or replaced. The equipment is good and I like some of them and the staff is decent except for the fact they sometimes like to just sit at equipment and not even use it for 20 mins while texting on their phone. Now the problems are that I've been going to this gym for 5 months now and this one machine (never found out what it was called) was broken the entire time! And why does the gym close so early on the weekends since those days most people are free too go to the gym. The cancellation is absolutely horrible making me pay 3 extra months of my membership just to cancel, and the staff didn't even explain the membership to me so I didn't even know I was still getting charged. I would not recommend going here.

I went there to join the gym, the girl at front desk didn't even bother to look up to say hi because she was holding her phone and probably texting someone ,then when I said to hert hat I want to join she said I can go and take a look around and that was it for me and I left immediately .

This is a terrible Gym. Before Covid the treadmills were often not working and is not the cleanest place. In addition when everything closed on March 13, 2020 they keep charging my card. There was no way to reach this Gym for months. Contact them by email was impossible and no one answered phone calls. These people claimed they reach me by phone and emailed since October to let me know that the Gym was opened but there are no emails or messages to prove it. A couple weeks ago they texted me to let me know that I owe over $140 dollars. When I called, they made all kids of excuses and requested that I paid all the money even if I have not been there. If they were able to text a few weeks ago, why did they not text me in October. I spoke to the manager and he was extremely rude. Save your money. There are tons of better fitness around.

dropped off a letter on December 21, 2020 for cancellation. as of January 12 not cancelled. went in person young man behind counter assured me if i pay the annual renewal fee of 49.99 i wouldnt not be charged for Nov/Dec 2020. shouldve known better. i was charged 49.99 and then the next day charged 89.99 and this week charged 19.99. so now Gyms lie and steal for memberships?

Trying to call to cancel my account but phone number is not in service but gym seems to be oen. They just charged me my yearly fee but you can't even contact anybody. I'm home with children doing virtual so I cant even go in. 😡

Worst gym ever. I moved months ago they have charged me for 3 months while they were closed and every number I call to try and cancel my membership I can never get through to ANYONE. I leave voicemails and even messaged there Facebook page to call me back and they never do.

The gym's in New York were suppose to open on August 24th post pandemic. It is now September 29th the gym is not open. There was a sign posted on the door that the gym would reopen on September 21st.. Upon revisting the gym that sign has been removed no new date has been posted. No communication via email, no outgoing message when calling the phone just rings then disconnects. Is this the way you treat your loyal customers ? what kind of principles do you have ? talk about running a business in bad faith. Where is "We are all in this Together ? certainly not at Retro Gym in Commack. Just another local Suffolk County business putting their customers last.

This gym has not opened since gyms have been able to reopen August 24th. I have not received any emails or phone calls from the gym regarding opening. Retro is the gym. They have all the equipment I need. Always in good repair. The least "waiting" time for equipment in my experience. Doubles of all the main popular equipment. The staff is the best. Sincerely friendly and helpful. This is based on two gyms I've frequented, Deer Park, and Dix Hills, NY.

This is a great place to work out lots of machines very clean , when you arrive you are always greeted with a hello and a warm welcome , the staff is well trained and professional The manager Pauline is the nicest and warmest person you could hope to meet she makes you feel welcome always , you can see when you speak to her why the staff is so courteous and professional . Before I joined I was never big on going to the gym now I look forward to it , great place great people

A horrible gym. Usually kept pretty bad, management is rude and abrasive. Worst of all even when they tell you you are on a month to month you STILL have to pay a 3 month cancelation fee. Had a knee injury in February and was supposed to be canceled, then paid until June when I called the corporate office. They told me to cancel in August because that’s when the year is up. Called and they STILL are charging me 2 months. The worst gym in the world!! Don’t go!!!

Since day 1,the tvs are always a problem...for YEARS. I have been paying all those years,though I don`t go often. Today 6 tvs weren’t working, on the bikes/threadmills. Two blink to make you nuts. All i every get is,”The repairman is coming.” The staff is polite,they listen but nothing changes with the tvs. I wish the people that watch or listen to their own devices, would go on the equipment with the broken tvs. I only use the bikes/threadmills! Most upsetting! 8/1/19,9:15 am.

If you're looking to pump up your biceps in an extreme way, look no further. But seriously, this is a great location. They have 2 squat racks and plenty of space. Never too crowded. The only thing I'm missing is a non-cable preacher curl machine, the kind you load with free weights.

Don’t use their personal trainers with “purecorept”. the company itself is trash (look up what people say about working for the company on indeed). they are shady when getting you to sign contracts and will lie to you. If you do Intend to use them make sure you read the contract because they will click through it nonchalantly.

Gym was clean, All equipment worked. They cut my lock off my locker. The trainer was nice but too pushy. I realized it was time to go elsewhere and cancelled with a document. They charged me for a several additional months, so I cancelled my credit card. Then they called me nonstop, said although I filled out paperwork, my credit card didn't allow charges so they kept my acct open...and I owe 4 more months fees or I go to collections that week. WHAT? So I paid the ransom and moved on to place with a pool.
I got a free shake once from all my points earned...its all chemicals...there's no real fruit in it...its like a huge sugary milkshake. Never again use a credit card! Never use this brand.

No thanks. It winter now so I guess RetroFitness figured on saving a buck and shutting of the HVAC. The entire place smells musty (well that's being nice i could say it's more like an armpit) i think they try and make up for it by showing recent releases movies in the kids lounge. I'm not sure, all I know is I don't expect to be back.

I had worst management experience with these fitness...they never care about the members issues and they ask u to sign contract very polite.. soo people be aware of that things... better u choose other fitness than this otherwise u will end up with huge payments.
