Did a 3 day pass and will not be joining, equipment is heavily worn and rusty, there’s is only one bench, dumbbells are mismatched and missing, there is leaks in the ceiling, the quality is overall bad i’d rather pay $5 less and get better quality at planet fitness.

I joined Retro fitness a few months ago. The gym definitely needs better staffing. The equipment also needs upgrading. Some of the equipment, such as dumbbells are usually scattered all over the gym. Some of the other equipment is worn and dirty. There are leaks coming from the ceiling maybe due to the A/C system. The staff usually places garbage bins to catch the dripping water.
The other concern is that each day, between 12-1pm, there is a female who appears to be of East Indian descent that brings her son to the gym. He appears to be about 8-10 years old. The staff just watches and allows him to play on the fitness equipment. He also goes behind the desk to play with staff. One day he was operating a remote control car on the gym floor. I had no idea children under a certain age were allowed in
the gym. I feel that this is a safety issue . There is always a risk of the child getting injured or causes someone else to be injured.

I was once a member here and it was starting to go downhill years back, that's why I left, I saw was about to become and glad I followed my gut. The basement has some issues sometimes but for the price/equipment. rare equipment is here so this is one of the best gyms out of "mainstream" gyms. This is the best gym for intermediate - advanced bodybuilders. Noobs too is fine. Dumbbell's up to 140 is not common unless you go to Bev's powerlifting Gym. I don't recommend going there unless VERY ADVANCED. i loved my time at retro.

Overall a decent gym. Fairly clean, lots of equipment, some unique pieces you don’t find in commercial gyms.

Some issues in the downstairs space. No one racks the weight plates, if they do they are always in random order. Nearly impossible to find 10 and 25lb plates, it’s like they’ve been stolen. Bumper plates are all different sizes. Some wonky feeling barbells. Can be a serious struggle to get proper lifts in because of these mostly memeber caused issues.

Was a great gym but they recently shut off a huge section for use by personal trainers only. You can’t use the stationary bikes, cardio area, stretching space, or other equipment that is now roped off unless you want to shell out hundreds of dollars additional to pay for personal training. That takes away about half of the activities that I was doing here.

TERRIBLE DECISION that will ruin the cool, affordable vibe this gym used to have.

I signed up for an Aerobic fitness class with Alexandra at Retro Fitness in Freeport, using my Class Pass Account. I was so excited for the class as it was my first time using Class Pass. When I got there earlier this morning, I found out the Retro Fitness instructor was no longer with them and so they were not having the class. I was very disappointed because I was expecting to take a fun aerobic class this morning, that is different than my usual workout, but I ended up not being able to take that class. I also lost the credit I used for that class. The gym employee said I can use the gym as a guest, which I did, but it wasn’t the same. This is just a warning in case anyone else signs up for a class at retro fitness, call them beforehand to see if the class is actually going to happen so you don’t get duped like I did. Hopefully retro fitness takes the class down so more people don’t register for a class that will not be held.

Nice but could be better, spray bottles with no paper to wipe equipment down, or just the opposite. Staff could be a little more welcoming. Ceiling Leaks should be addressed. Firstly, definitely a 5 star gym!
To start, the gym is very well maintained and clean. There are many good areas to take pictures with amazing downlighting.
Retro offers a selection of amazing equipment as well. My favorite being their large selection of dumbbells. Their staff is very on point namely, Darielys their manager is so helpful and very attentive to any question I had. I highly recommend trying the gym out and ultimately signing up!!!

Started coming here a few weeks ago. My partner has been a member for years and recommends retro fitness in general but this particular location is top tier! Has the best range of equipment and great staff. Darielys recommended cutting recipes to me and always has a bright smile. She is super helpful and makes the best shakes! If you’re looking to start your fitness journey this is definitely the place to be. At other gyms I’ve often felt uncomfortable. I just visited this location recently to sign in and there’s a lot of good things about this location.

As soon as I walked in they welcome me with a very kind gesture which was very professional.

When I start asking about the subscription's, they literally explain everything to me in the most understanding way possible with the best customer service I ever had. Very professionals.

The general manager named (Darielys) she was very professional as well. She explained me a lot of other things about the gym, we walk thru the entire gym explaining me all the stations and equipment that was available. which was very helpful for me as my first day.

I noticed that this location it also looks very clean and organize as well. I really like it and I will be back as soon as possible. Can’t wait!!!

Poorly managed facility. Pedro is unqualified as an assistant manager. Doesn't even have the customer service to get on a call to demonstrate courtesy. And, fabricates and misleads an entire storyline. Check your bank statements- had to close my debit card. LA Fitness is so much better by a landslide. Crunch. Anything. Planet. This gym has countless amenities, including a full floor of weights and machines, classes, a tanning salon, and even child care for those who need it. The people who come here motivate one another, and are nice but not cliquey or creepy. Having come here from Oceanside (which is a gross, cliquey disaster, with the old women throwing themselves at men constantly like its a nightclub and NO amenities), I realize I was settling for so much less than I deserved. I'm so glad that this Retro exists. It's such a great place.

The best part of this gym is it's location. There are no amenities like the local gyms in the area and they charge you astronomical fees, including a yearly fee, when you don't have a yearly contracted plan. This is a very shady and deceptive practice. If you have the ability to, choose another gym that will actually make it worth your while. I wish I would have known that there is literally nothing in there and they charge more than the gyms that have saunas, pools, etc... Do yourself a favor and don't let the location suck you in like I did. Go somewhere else!

Why 5 stars? Well, the old phrase attitude is a reflection of leadership sums it all up. The General Manager, Darielys Veras is the key. She is very attentive to the user experience at this gym. She is very approachable and looks at issues brought to her attention from the consumer prospective. Her approach to managing this gym is the main reason I have not been able to choose a gym closer to where I reside because you don’t get the same professional feeling when you walk into other gyms like you do here. I have made mention of things that require attention like defective soap dispensers in the men’s Locker room to dust accumulations on the main gym floor and from from my observations she looked into these concerns that may or may not have just been personal to me and addressed them to at least my satisfaction and made me a very happy member. And what I have come to realize from my conversations with her is that she and her staff aren’t able to observe every issue but when brought to her attention by a member it will be addressed. Selfishly, I hope that she is there as long as I’m a member and if not, I hope that the next Manager will embrace the skill sets that she has to continue to strive to make the gym experience at this location as great as it currently is.

It's fairly clean I can say. People not so. They leave their dirty paper towels on the treadmill cup holders and sometimes just on the floor. I do wish they'd have more sets of dumbbells in the 5lb- 15lb range. Depends on the time that you go whether you'd find any available to use. People can be a bit rude also as I've experienced someone Come and put their belongings on a bench I was using which I was literally standing next to and she didn't even bother to ask . Me laying on my mat doing a workout while someone comes and just starts throwing rope up and down while I'm right in front of them on the ground. I try to be at a respectable distance from other people and I always ask beforehand if I may use such and such, I don't just start doing wth I want disregarding others.

The freeport location is extremely close but I prefer to travel to Hempstead to workout. Freeport location is so very small and everyone is just so close together, I am not fond of it at all and am willing to go a further distance for personal space and a place that isn’t as crowded. It is a nice gym and clean but that is just my personal opinion. The employees are very nice too.

Keep in mind I visit the area from out of town, and this is where I go when I am in the area. So I can not speak to management or membership. Therefore my review is a “traveler’s review,” and may be more generous than that which a member would offer.

It’s a great blend of big warehouse bodybuilder gym with full range fitness facility. This is a good space for lifters who want a no frills lifting environment, but also want to be around like minded ironheads.

The space is worn out and feels dingy, mismatched weight plates, old equipment, some padding on benches and machines looking worn. Nothing majorly offensive, little that obstructs hard work, but worth mentioning if you are of a more fragile attitude towards gym spaces. if you like rough edges, though, you will feel quite at home. And for a lot of lifters, a bit of roughness is actually an asset. I am one such lifter.

An asset is a division of TWO weight rooms, The upper space is mostly machines. The lower space is a combination of free weights, racks, and “heavy” machines. Most big lifters will stay downstairs, but the point is there is a wide array, so you can literally accomplish anything weightlifting related.

There are four squat racks, three or four benches, and an expanse of turf. There are proper deadlifting areas (although nit true platforms, but sturdy approximates. The dumbbells are a little limited, so grab what you need and hoard them.

My only major complaint is the clientele. Which is NOT the fault of the business. There are some solid, serious lifters – quit e a number in fact. But there are also young dudes who don;t really know great gym etiquette, and then a not-small portion of dudes who are there to say they go tot he gay, but are not quite clued in. Yes this sounds harsh, but literally EVERY time I go, some young dude will like start taking weights off a bench I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF USING, or some obtuse bro will meander into your space (sometimes dangerously) without minding what he’s doing. Sometimes dangerous, always annoying, the etiquette of the gym is not as sharp as most true bodybuilding spaces. But if you just bring patience (and a sense of humor) it won;t bother you. Just worth mentioning because of how frequent I have experienced these sorts of space-sharing blunders.

As a travel Klee my only other minor complaint is the stingy locker room. It’s functional, but feels as worn out and dingy as the rest of the facility. As in: just shower at home. Which seems to be the consensus.

Overall a great bodybuilder-minded space, with some workable glitches that are easily overlooked if you are there to push big weight.

I really don’t understand how this place has good reviews at all … I am currently traveling for business and decided to give this retro a try as I won’t be home for a few days and it’s the closest to my hotel . But let me tell you how disappointed I was . Compared to retro fitness in Fort lee NJ or even Oceanside LI which I should of just gone to .
Equipment is very old , most cardio machines are out of order or dirty . I did not see one person wiping the equipment after using it . The locker rooms and toilets are disgusting . Very messy when it came to finding dumbbells .The CLASS ROOM ? forget about it . . It was dirty , no hand sanitizer , dirty equipment and personal garbage left behind .

Not okay .

Update : I JOINED RETRO FITNESS THIS YEAR SO PLEASE GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT and take accountability for your dirty GYM.. oh and for your information I wouldn’t of never gone back if I ever even visited it in 2014 . Also, please fix your machines since now I know you can see the reviews . Save yourself a trip guys . Not only is the location disgusting , clearly the staff is not too far out since they like to call paying members liars . So unprofessional.

I’ve been going to this gym at night for awhile. It’s been clean and enough equipment to get my workouts in. I’ve notice some guys working out shirtless. I mean I get the motivation to go shirtless but these guys are literally walking around with no shirt on (Top naked). The workers at the front obviously are watching them doing it and no one’s saying anything. Is that against the code?. If not I’m sure it’s bad for business.

needs more equipment out.. also cleaning stations need towel dispensers that work. also no matter your back round a simple hello wont kill them...no matter how you were born money is green..

They could use more Equipment for sure! Plenty of times I’ve wanted to use the Oblique Twist machine and it was unavailable because they only have one. The cleaning stations need improvement big time they’ll have spray and no paper towels or vice versa. And they have had equipment broken for the longest while with no hope of fixing anything. They need a female maintenance woman to tend to the bathroom. The patrons of the gym don’t clean up after them self it’s annoying!

Its a very nice environment and have plenty of equipment for people to use without waiting for someone to be finished! Very nice job! Keep up the great work! Also would like to mention that now being opening up at 5am is very convient for those who would like to get the training on earlier is an adding bonus. Cant go wrong with retro fitness of freeport!

Stay away . Their contract states If the services purchased cease to be offered as stated in the contract, you shall be relieved of any further obligation for payment under the Contract not then due and owing. which means they can’t bill due to covid. However they continue to bill. First without any communication then even after I sent a certified letter to cancel even after the 12 month term. They threaten to send all bills to collections . Shame on you guys .
