I visited this gym today and unfortunately had a very bad experience with one of the employees. When my friend and I were in the back area of the gym near the turf/green zone, the employee approached us in a very rude and unprofessional way. Instead of respectfully letting us know the area was private, he spoke to us with attitude and made us feel unwelcome.

I understand if certain areas are restricted, but there is no excuse for treating members with disrespect. This experience made me feel uncomfortable, and I hope management addresses this behavior.

Although this particular location is close to me, I have to travel to Freeport RF for the convenience of machines that actually work, wider selection of equipment and the various classes to choose from. This gym lacks so many essentials of a standard gym which is highly disappointing as I could be saving so much gas. Shameful.

Many machines constantly broken, been working out here a week and has come across 4 broken machines. One still hasn't been fixed from last week.
If you are serious about your routine, this may not be the place to come to. Always busy. Only 1 machine of each type of machine. So you will have to wait on busy days to use what you want if it's not broken. I only come for convenience of location.

I used to go to this location in 2018. It was great. Now I came back and the gym is in BAD shape:( There are 6 treadmills that don’t work at all. They’re down to one stationary bike, broken ellipticals, all dirtyy machines. Out of the treadmills that do work, a lot have buttons that don’t work so you can’t control the pace. Not good :((

I love coming to this gym because of the positive attitude of the employees. I’m always greeted upon entering the gym by francis and jeanine whom is the general manager. The gym is always clean and smells like a clean fresh scent. Most gyms you go to are not cleaned regularly. Plus there is a big selection of machines, treadmills, and weights to choose from. I really appreciate the friendliness of the team and i look forward to a long lasting relationship with this gym. I think jeanine, the general manager deserves a raise for her hard work. Plus Francis needs to be promoted for always being there for his clients and making sure the gym is running smoothly.

Great place to work out. The staff & members are extremely friendly. The place is huge with tons of equipment to utilize. I go in the mornings before work & I never have to wait to use a piece of equipment. Decent sized parking lot. Pricing is extremely competitive. The gym is on the 2nd floor, to which they do have an elevator for those who can't walk up the steps.

I'd also like to address the past negative posts I've read...

1) In regards to the $49 fee, ppl are complain about.... When I signed up, the person helping me explained that there would be a one-time annual $49 fee charged to me in the near future. Annual fees is a common practice within most gyms. The staff was extremely transparent prior to me signing up.

2) I've read past reviews about broken equipment @ the gym. Again, most gyms have defective equipment. However, Retro fitness has plenty of equipment to use should your favorite machine become non operational.

I had just begun my workout when I was approached by an employee who asked me to step off of the equipment and come to the front desk. I asked if it was urgent and informed him that I had already taken my pre-workout and wanted to get started. He informed me that one of the other managers wanted to have a quick chat with me and assured me it wouldn't take long. I arrived at the front desk only to be informed that my membership had been suspended by management due to a false accusation of an employee. She stated that I had come to the front desk of the establishment and walked off with her Airpod case. To be clear, I do not own Airpods.

When I informed them that this was not true, I asked for specific details of the incident. Who is the employee making the accusation, when did it happen, how was she able to identify "the person"? The accuser was not present, They didn't know when it happened, and just said, she said it was you. At this point a small crowd is forming around the front desk. Still maintaining my innocence, I asked the two men to show me the security camera footage of the theft you are accusing me of, only to find out they do not have active security cameras.

So not only did you suspend my membership with no proof that I am the person who stole the employee's item, you questioned me about it publicly. You have all of my contact information. There should have been a phone call or some sort of follow up. You wait until I am on the equipment, and drag me off (figuratively) for nonsense. It was embarrassing to say the least. I'm not sure the two men questioning me believed the story of their coworker as they shared with me that they would if they could reinstate my membership and even offered me a free personal training session.

To add insult to injury it is now November and the facility is still charging me membership fees. I've called this location and still haven't received a call back regarding this issue.

At this location- and I cannot speak for the others, machines are always broken, and the urinal in the men's bathroom has been broken (unusable) for almost a year to name a few. Also, they took down the paper towel dispenser and removed most of the paper towels long before covid ended. When I voiced my displeasure with this action I was told they were ordering new ones. The boat from China is not only slow its non existent.

This gym is really good for diverse selection of equipment and its boxing class is excellent. The coach knows his stuff and he dont play. Hes a grand master and the staff are also friendly, and the music is lit with a mix of rap and reggaeton. Gym it’s self is very nice. Quite not many people around. No worries about crowding. I was able to get through my leg e workout without a problem.
Only thing I found strange was all the locker were taped off signs post temporally closed 😲 some lockers were used and some available only because people took tape off. I used one that wasn’t tape off. I don’t use this location regularly. Been once before. Guess it for COVID precautions.

I’m came back today and see that the lockers back open. Glad to see situation has been rectified.

I've been going to Retro fitness sporadically for 5 years. On my recent visit the place has under gone a huge transformation. It is hugely clean everywhere. Retro staff was visibly wiping equipment, moping the floors and cleaning the mirrors.

The equipment has been rearranged and the place has everything for a fantastic workout.

Unfortunately Carle Place closed down forcing me to use this gym until I find another. I realized how much I love the Carle place branch. I am so annoyed with this gym and their broken machines. the LEG PRESS is a favorite machine for most people yet this machine hasn't been working appropriately for months and no one is doing anything about. The machine gets LOCKED. I don't know how many people have to voice their concerns with this machine before they replace it. I hope to join LA fitness again because I would be further into reaching my goals if I was at a gym where I can maintain a routine because the equipments are functioning properly. Retro, you are going to loose a lot of customers. once people can get a good deal at a better gym. For me I'm waiting for a deal at LA fitness and I'll be gone.

Also the gym hasn’t had a leg press machine for a while now and they haven’t found the need to put another one in.
A Personal trainer at this gym puts their own music in the gym with a blue tooth speaker which is annoying because you are hearing two music at the same time. The one from the gym speaker and the personal trainer who uses the Bluetooth speaker around the whole gym.
Gym is mistreated. Feels like a charity based gym. Also the scale is now broken too. Smh

Rates are cheap 👍🏾 Equipments are good. Relatively big gym. Work out In the morning if you’re pressed for time. Evening is crowded and you won’t get your routine done as efficiently as you may want to.

❌If you have plans and serious about your day’s business, don’t come here when they say they’ll open. They’ve been late to open the gym at least twice this week alone.
