Everyday staff is excellent. Very nice and helpful BUT the General Manager is the most ignorant person I have ever met. He was very rude and all around not helpful and his answer for a problem was always it’s not his problem! Just very unprofessional. He drags the gym and other employees down.

I was at retro fitness for a few years before unfortunately having to leave due to moving. But I can say without a doubt it’s the best gym for the best price in the area. I was at three different gyms all around the five towns and always thought I was paying way too much money for a gym I didn’t feel completely comfortable in. At retro you get great assistance with anything including advice on machine or training questions in general. This is all led by a great manager in Josh who is very personable and makes it easy to ask any questions about the gym. Also has abundance of classes including restorative yoga if you want to relax to intense cardio classes if you are trying to cut some weight. Five stars for the retro in hewlett.

I've been a member for a few years and it's the same issues here. TVs dont work / machines with fans dont work. Calories dont display on treadmills where it is a available option on it. I am thinking about leaving this gym with a few other members to 24 fitness.

Love this gym, been a member here since they first opened up. Josh is the GM here and he is a great guy. He always is on top of everything and makes sure he gets to know all the members. 10/10 recommend!

I would really give them 0 stars but I can't. Pure core personal training sucks, they lie to get you to sign an agreement. You tell them what you want they say ok and they give you something else. Be cautious and mindful. Don't have a problem really with retro however I wish they helped regarding this situation, being it's in their gym. I do not recommend.

I started working out last month and I signed up for the gym knowing I wanted a trainer I started working out with Fabian who is amazing I needed him to help me get ready for a test and he got me eating right and working out if it wasn’t for him I would not know what to do . I will continue to work out with him

Me and my wife have been going to this particular Reto Fitness for some time.
The owner Dean and the staff are always very nice. (WE ALL KNOW HOW HARD DEALING WITH THE PUBLIC CAN BE)
They tolerate a lot of rude and condescending people with weird issues day in and day out.
NOT TO MENTION SOME PEOPLE WHO SMELL!!!
YES SMELL AND YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.
CLEAN YOU'RE ARSE!!! THIS GOES FOR THE MEN AND WOMEN..
ITS DISGUSTING!!!

SUGGESTIONS:
Please replace equipment that is failing and needs constant repair. This goes for the TV's as well.
Please give your staff a pay increase.

My husband and I joined this gym about 1.5 years ago. I had gotten pregnant several months after joining and unfortunately we couldn't cancel then as we signed a 1 year contract. So my husband's CC was being charged every month even though we weren't using the gym. After I had the baby we no longer live in the area and I told my husband to cancel our membership. Mind you I have joined many gyms in the past and NEVER did I have issues when cancelling. When my husband called and spoke with the management they asked why we waited to cancel and that we need to pay $30 to cancel. We have donated over $800 to this gym and they just refuse to waive the fee. No where in their contract does it state a cancellation fee - they told us at the time we signed up we can cancel at anytime after the 1 year commitment. We are totally disgusted by the way this gym handles financial matters. Don't join this gym they are dishonest and will harass you with phone calls and emails till you pay what you don't owe. Bottom line go elsewhere. Do not join here if you need to cancel in the future! All we have to say is that they are thieves!!!!!

My favorite gym. Relaxed not pretentious. Update from November 2018: They might have a theft problem though. I'm pretty sure that I had 2 credit cards stolen from my wallet on 11/1 because someone was using them on 11/2 and when I had returned to my locker on 11/1, my lock was not really operating properly - it was probably popped and the scum are "smart" enough to not take the entire wallet but just things that won't really be noticed. I know they are not responsible and to leave valuables at home, yada yada yada - you really can't travel without your wallet and keys and cards so what do you do about locker security?

Clean, lots of space in the Ladies bathroom. Sauna, Salt , Hydra Therapy exercises equipment , staff, managers, statue outside .
Drinks CELSIUS Protein drinks etc.
Have all body parts for hydra. If you had a hestorectomy the hole that you have never workes out.

Its a good gym with a reasonable ammount of equipment. Every interaction with the staff has always been friendly and professional.

The only thing that is preventing the gym from receiving 5 stars is that the gym could use a few more machines in the weight section and maybe a kettle bell area. However, considering the monthly dues, its the best value in the area.

Been going here for several years now and while it’s definitely not the largest gym, It has more than enough to meet all my needs. The machines are always in good condition, although the elliptical machines do break down here and there - but otherwise they keep it very clean, and the membership fees are great.

For somewhere works out casually several times a week and is not looking to spend a lot of money on membership fees / yearly contract lock-ins, this should be the place for you.

Went here for a few years while I lived in Cedarhurst. Really clean gym, very nice people. Had to cancel my account (today) because I had moved, and Josh - the GM - was wonderful about it. I had read nightmare articles about canceling from Retro - but this was a dream! Would recommend if you live in the area.

I generally enjoy going to the gym, but lately I am disappointed at the number of machines that are broken and remain broken for months on end. There has been a stair machine that has now been broken for two months. The small lockers when you first walk in are now 90% broken, from 75% broken when I joined in December. Not to mention that most of the televisions don't work. I am not sure what the rationale is, but if this defective rate isn't improved by the time my year is up, I will most likely move to another gym that tend to their broken items. It's a shame.

Repair of Stairmaster 2 months and counting!!!!!!
I have a concern with turnaround time on equipment repair at your 1255 Helette location. There has been one Stairmaster out for close to two months. The Stairmaster is in high demand/usage, resulting in long delays on using the only other Stairmaster at the GYM. I have complained to staff every week, and keep being told that the repair request, has been submitted. Well know the other Stairmaster has been down for almost two weeks, hence there's no operational Stairmaster available and the staff has no idea when they will be repaired. I understand that equipment does break down, but waiting over two months is a bit much.. Why not buy a new one??

It is a solid basic gym, and equipment other than treadmills, cycles and ellipticals is very limited. I go at times during weekday mornings and encounter slight wait times - I can't imagine going here during peak times. The bottom line is that for the price, it is a very serviceable gym

I am a big fan of Retro Fitness because of it's wild range of equipment and services. After 6 months going to the gym 4 times a week and using their equipment/services; I lost 40 pounds of fat and also toned my muscles the way I wanted. Still working hard to reach new and harder goals but without Retro Fitness, I still would have been 185 pound and unhappy about my weight.

I would definitely recommend Retro Fitness to anybody that wants to meet their personal body goals because if i can do it, anybody can too.

Ridiculous. Cant even get on a bench, they only have one. So small you are bumping into everyone and don't even think you are going during peak times and get on equipment...Cheap and run by children. Cant wait until my contract is over so I can cancel.

Some equipment need to be replace.a few meatheads walking around in tank top. Bathrooms are very clean staff is friendly. they need to evaluate the machines that people use the must and put extra, because I've tried many times to use legs extention, legs press, cross cable, upper chest bench and allllway is busy while other equipments are lonely, . Please fix these!!!!

I love this gym, it's twenty minutes away but they have parking and the staff is so nice all the time. I went to the one in Astoria and I HATED IT! I was trying to go during my break at work but I would rather just go to my home gym (which is Hewlett) because it's not intimidating and annoying like the other ones.
