I’ve been a member at Retro Fitness for over 5 years. The gym has everything I need to complete my workouts. The owner, and the staff are always pleasant and friendly. I like that the gym is in a convenient location, and is always kept clean and in good shape. I have recommended Retro Fitness to a number of people over the years, and I continue to do so as the opportunities present themselves.

Bathrooms are disgusting, the gym itself is extremely dirty. need to bring in a professional cleaning crew to clean the place. I get there first thing in the morning and the weights are all over the place, never racked or put back.

The front desk staff is the best. The people who work out there are very friendly and motivating. Equipment is clean and well maintained and there is enough that even during busy times you can work out all body parts. My only negative comment is the locker room for men is small, however it is kept clean.

This place was awful. I was going to make this my new home gym but after two visits I realized that would be a mistake. The staff was exceptionally rude beyond reason. No one would show me around. I was told I could walk around and look for myself. When I didn’t know how to use the tanning bed they have ( which by the way was dirty and the lights were extremely weak) and asked someone to show me I got an eye roll and a sigh. They also banged me out for extra money to use the babysitting even though I have a top tier membership. I walked out after that. It’s insane small. Very crowded. Rude staffing.

I opted to go down to the Ramsey location where I was greeted with smiles, a full tour, a fitness assessment (so I signed up for personal training), and was told the babysitting was no extra charge as I was going to be making this my home gym.

Avoid this gym. I’ve been to retro fitness facilities around the country for work and this was by far the worst I had ever experienced.

For $20/month (plus an annual fee), I can't complain much about this gym. They have all standard workout equipment and offer classes too. Facilities are kept pretty clean, and there's not usually broken or unusable equipment there. It's not a huge space so it gets crowded during busy hours (after work).

The men’s locker room has several broken lockers that are not being fixed. It seems every couple of weeks another one breaks without any repairs to the already broken ones.

The customer service at location is lacking. I had several negative interactions with an employee I know longer see at location. A very tall young gentleman who worked their for a long period of time. I threatened to write it up here and only then did his demeanor improve. In addition very recently a young brunette girl about 5' 4" and approx in her early twenties also was very caddy and unprofessional at times as well.

These employees need to be trained that the gym is a place of business and not a place for their bad moods or games that they played in high school. We are paying customers and expect to be treated with professionalism.

I don't think I will be going back to this gym. There is a Retro in Pearl River and 2 on Route 17 in New Jersey and although they are approx 30 minutes farther away all those facilities are newer, in better condition and have much better customer service. By better customer service, I mean they don't glare at you or turn their heads aside when you walk by or ask you, "Yea What?" When you have a question and they would rather be talking to their co workers. Etc

Also, I forgot to mention the gym is quite old for a retro.

I have been going to this gym for a few years. I put up with enough negative behavior at the desk and from employees. I am done. No thanks.

I haven't had any problems so far. Everyone is friendly. The one thing I don't like is they have the worst shakes in life. You need to use real fruits and that syrup stuff is not cutting it and is disgusting. You can even get frozen fruit but you guys need to do something about those nasty shakes!!!!!

Update I tried a few shakes and they are all nasty. You NEED REAL FRUIT. I will never buy another 1 ever!!
Threw it right out waste of money smh!!

The bathrooms here are horrible. The owners of the gym need to hire a cleaning company because the bathrooms are always disguisting, the soap dispensers are always empty, and the paper towels are usually empty. This is inexcusable and shouldn't be a normal occurrence for a service that you're paying a premium for. I'm rating the gym so low because with the flu running rampant, they are not helping the situation with the lack of cleanliness.

Management needs to correct this problem immediately!

Not nice employees ! So I'm from California and I called to see if I could get a pass for 2 days until I decide for how long I'm staying in NY ! Do I need to buy a pass for a week or a month ! The guy who picked up the phone said they can give me a pass for 3 days ! He said ask about Briana ! I went and I asked for briana , she said that she can not give me the free pass that they have told me about in the phone Bc I'm not local ! I don't mind buying it but I told her I'm not carrying money w me ! Still she did not let me do my workout!!! So rude and unprofessional! If you said so on the phone I would come prepared! I drove a good distance and left my baby with some family Bc you brought me ! At least let me do my workout of the day ! Total waste of time !

I'm being generous giving 1 star. Don't trust that the staff knows the policies og the gym. I went to Retro in June to cancel my account. I knew my year wasn't up yet and told the person at the desk that I did not want my account to renew, that I wanted it canceled. She looked up my account and said she would put a note and let the owner know I didn't want to renew. I confirmed with her that I didn't need to do anything else. She said she would take care of it and my last day would be August 11th. Well on August 11th, my credit card was charged again. 😠 I went back in. The person at the desk asked if I filled out a cancelation form. There was no mention that I needed to fill out anything! She said she would take care of it! So now because the Retro staff didn't know the Retro policies I'm being penalized! My card will be charged again in September and my account will be active until October. Really? Train your staff!!! I am beyond angry! Next time I desire to join a gym, you can be sure that it WON'T be Retro Fitness! Unbelievable! Like I said 1 star is generous.

They offer everything I need from a gym, at a fraction of the price, in comparison to the other local gym. The customer service has been nothing shy of professional and courteous when I've needed it, and their promotions for membership can't be beat (if you catch it at the right time).

Overall, I feel they offer a wonderfully well rounded experience, no matter your fitness level and expectations.

I tried to join but was ignored by the people @ the front desk. I called later & asked to speak to the manager but was told he was on a break & couldn't be disturbed. I called again later & left my name & # for the manager to call me.

Of course, he never called.

I called the following night & spoke to Ryan, the manager. He wouldn't let me tell my side of the story & was clearly angry. I said I didn't like his attitude & asked for the owner's name.

He then told me he didn't have to deal with me & hung up.

It doesn't get more unprofessional or ruder than that. The corporate headquarters will be interested to hear about this, since I have no recourse but to take this to a higher level.
