Update #2: August 2024 : the magic lasted a short time. For a while now, the music went back to undesirable music to the majority of the people working out. 40% of the music is in Spanish language.

Inappropriate videos played on the screen all with some kind of sexual tone to it.

Many people have ear buds but to those of us who don't are stuck with this.
considering the persons who might enjoy this type of music are probably already listening to their own music through ear buds, retro new city should choose music with no lyrics and clean videos with no sexual overtones.

I've been told it's preselect songs but there should be an option where there could be a contemporary mix.

I would like to see videos that I wouldn't be embarrassed watching while working out with my daughter.

Music volume has continued to be at a reasonable level and that is a good thing.

Good selection of workout machines and free weights.

Update: I went to the gym to try it one last time. I was surprised at one of the things that I complained about below were addressed. Music was low enough to hear my own music, not obnoxious. I was able to get a good work out without feeling like my eyes were going to bleed.
Very good!! Keep it up.. Keep tabs on the kids you have running the place. Set boundaries.

I have been a member of Retro for over a decade now. I live in New City and would love to patronize local establishments but every time I go I am extremely disappointed in Retro of NewCity
1. Music
The music is so obnoxious and loud that I can't even hear my music in my ear buds.

2. The atmosphere is toxic. I don't want to ever take my wife there. There is a constant stream of cursing and vile mouths working out there. I am not a prude but seriously who wants to be around that with your wife.

3. Music videos are raunchy. music with cursing in it. I see senior citizens cringing as they are subject to this. Neutral music should be played.

4. Protein shakes taste like the blender has not been cleaned and tastes moldy. I threw it out last time. It doesn't take much to clean out the blender.

5. Bathrooms are horrendous.

This place is not family friendly. I travel am extra 20 minutes into pearl river to work out. Unfortunately, because I would rather stay close to home. I held off writing this review for a long time but the last few times I came home from work late I dropped in and wound up getting in my car and driving to pearl River Retro. Never a problem there. They play music, loud enough to work out to but low enough if you have earbuds you can hear your own music. It's clean and family friendly. No one is cursing.

Let me add this, the equipment is good at this new city retro. I want to at least give what's good but the rest needs to be cleaned up. I hope the owner sees this and starts to look around and clean things up. It could be a great place if they do clean it up the less desirable things.

Take note when canceling your membership, it is also policy that you cancel it 30 days before your annual fee will be charged. I canceled within 13 days of my annual fee being charged, so they still charged me an annual fee for a gym that I'm not going to for the next year. In addition to that make sure you keep note of when your annual fee is going to be charged because they give you no notice for the renewal, and no notice that they're going to be charging you an annual fee.

Retro Fitness New City is my favorite gym. I go there in the morning and greeted by a great staff (Mark). All the other staff are also welcoming and pleasant. Although their most of their equipments are a little outdated, they are always working and kept clean by staff , in addition their TV channels are quite good.I always see staff checking and dusting equipment. I went to this gym in hopes of finding a new workout home. I signed up for a free trial online. I received an email about scheduling a tour of the facility, so I called the gym prior to let them know I was coming that day. When i got there i introduced myself and let the girl at the front (Tsari) that I was there for a trial. She didn't say anything to me then threw an ipad on the table and told me to fill out something. I filled it out, told her I have finished than she snatched the Ipad back out my hand. At this point I already felt unwelcomed so I walk away then I realized I have no idea where I am going. So I walk back to the front and ask the girl where is the locker room. She points and aggressively says "It right there." I go to do my workout and start to feel more unwelcome and uncomfortable so I left after 10 minutes. When i left I was kind enough to say bye and thank you. Tsari had no response. Another worker said bye to me across the gym(he must of felt bad). Anyways this is not the experience I had hope for. Bottom line is I felt unwelcomed, uncomfortable and unwanted at this gym.

They intentionally make it difficult for you to cancel your membership. When I asked why you have to come in person, the worker didn't even know. My husband was even told to bring in a letter. Huge red flag that something is wrong when a company has to play dirty.

This place doesn’t even deserve 1 star. Their service is poor and the place is extremely dirty. The membership is not worth it! The staff is rude and not helpful. Make sure to read the fine print of the contract because they will try to trap you in. This place is way too expensive for what they give. 24 Hour Fitness in Nanuet is much better and where I will be recommending to friends and family moving forward.

Very clean, good equipment and lax environment where you can just focus on your lifts and get a good pump. Retro has been my home gym for many years now. I go at least 5 days a week. I’m happy with how the staff is accommodating to me as a regular. Harrison is a great worker and I’m happy seeing him everyday. Mike is another great addition to the staff. I would like to see more new modern machines that are now available. New shoulder press machines and chest machines. I would like to see less kids hanging around in packs taking up equipment but I can’t choose who pays for a membership. At the same time that I want to see more equipment I DO NOT want the gym to cluttered and packed together with equipment where there’s no space inbetween other equipment.

Terrible place, became a member two month ago and during my subscription they told me that I was gonna revived a call from a trainer (they charged me 49.00 for that consult) and here we go in the second month and they never called me. I told them specifically that I will not start until they schedule that visit. I called them yesterday because they keep on billing me and when I call I still got no answer. I spoke to someone (Edwin) and gave my complaint and gave me the managers email (Mike) who never replied. I called back to speak to him and he was there but told him to tell me that he was busy but never called me back either. Going there today to close that account. Very unprofessional people.

Affordable, local gym that has everything from personal training to free-weights. I prefer class workouts and had my first class with Angie (one of the instructors). When a gym has no rules, chaos evolves. This management has no clue abt how to run a gym. You have members taking two machines at a time thereby, not allowing others to use the machines. I have been to several Retro Fits throughout the east coast and I assure you,the rule is “one machine per member”is the proper way to allow all members the use of machines. The unprofessionalism is astounding, and quite frankly,if this is how you run a gym, you most definitely won’t survive. Plenty of other gyms in the area, I suggest you look elsewhere

I liked the gym, it has a lot of equipment however I had to freeze my membership because of the pandemic (there are people in my house that are high risk and I wouldn’t want to take a chance). When I got my membership it was for two so I gave the second to my sister. But three months later the pandemic happened and i froze both our accounts (the staff confirmed that they were both frozen!). Later I got a call asking if she would like to extend her membership because it was over. I gave them a call saying that they’re frozen and I was told that it was a one year promo and they can’t freeze the promo account. So a lot of contradictions— and a waste of my money at that point. Today I woke up to a 60 dollar charge which I was never told about. They said it was the annual fee. I said my account has been frozen...I haven’t been there- that doesn’t make sense. But I can’t do anything. On top of that, I was told that I would have to call monthly to continue to freeze my account (which is just their way of tricking people into losing their money- it was not this way before). Now I have so much more to worry about. And ofc I can’t cancel my account because the one year membership is not over. and even that I have to cancel a month in advance because again— it’s a trap for them to get your money. It’s just very disappointing especially since we’re in a pandemic....I wish I could just cancel and be done with it but if I unfreeze my account 300 will go to waste— I’m a student I can’t afford that. My suggestion- find another gym.

Earlier this morning, Henry at the front desk, walked up to the treadmill I was using and told me I was wearing the wrong face mask, even though I had checked in with him less than an hour earlier! He wanted me to stop my workout immediately. I have never had any other staff members bring up an issue with my face covering before. I finished two minutes later, and Henry proceeded to follow me into the locker room until I left! I have been a member of this gym for over three years, and have never been treated like this! Management needs to speak to him immediately as the way he acted was completely unprofessional!

They offer a wide variety of equipment and personal training programs. Terry Roland is an excellent Manager who goes out of his way to make sure everything is going well. I had to change my 5 star review to 4 stars because they do not and will not offer mid-morning to mid-afternoon classes for those of us who do not like zumba or yoga.

New City is the best retro and one of the best gyms I've ever been to. It's maintained very well. Never walked into the bathroom a mess, the equipment is in great condition, staff is very attentive. Two racks for squats/deadlifts but it's rarely too busy to not be able to use during a workout. They've got pretty much everything I could need for all of my workouts. Shakes are great too.

I was a member of Pomona Retrofitness and I used Newcity Gym few times, the facility was good , but when

I cancelled the membership on November 19 th 2018 at Pomona but they said they will charge for December also because of not having 30 days notice , but charges me January too because I used New city Retro fitness few times , Now
They says will charge me February because not having 30 days notice period . The multiple times entry to gym is a trick .

I just joined Retro Fitness in New City, NY almost 2 months ago. It is the 1st gym I have ever joined and so far I absolutely love it. The facility is always very clean, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful and always there to help with any questions I may have. I joined the gym for reasons such as losing weight, living a healthier lifestyle, and doing something for myself to feel good about myself, and I've already in the short period I've been a member experienced these things. I was given a free fitness evaluation, which was extremely helpful and motivating. Since the evaluation, which was about 2 weeks after joining, and taking the personal trainers advice, I've lost almost 15lbs and feel great. I would definitely recommend this gym to anyone. The only thing I would really like would be if the gym were open 24 hours or if at least they were open later on the weekends. I know there are other gyms that are 24 hours, but I am very comfortable and happy at Retro so I won't be leaving any time soon! I just wish they were open later on the weekends.

Once you sign up, they put you through the coals to get out. Horrible customer service, especially from the manager. They dont return calls, dont respond to faxes sent to cancel membership. The place is a dump. The water fountain doesn’t work half the time and the cable machines are constantly “being repaired”. Do yourself a favor and check out the 24 hour fitness nearby. You’ll be happy you did.

They also screwed something up on billing, tried to get me to pay for months I had already cancelled and then put a negative report on my Credit over $50 which they had created out of nowhere as a “late fee”. The owner is clearly a crook.
