Went to go lift this morning and was told that the gym shut down indefinitely overnight. Told that I can go to the ronkonkoma retro and maintain my membership, but if I wanted to do that I would've signed up in ronkonkoma in the first place. Sketchiest thing I've ever experienced.

Broken air conditioner once again, it happens every summer.
Sorry, no excuses. The blackboard sign telling the membership that you are working on replacing the unit means nothing.
It doesn't take long to replace, no excuses.
Broken seats/equipment for weeks. Water fountain broken 2 summers ago for several weeks.
Sorry, no way to treat your customers.

Wilson and the cleaning ladies are great, that covers my one star.

Taking my membership elsewhere, can't imagine what Saturdays 95 degree temperature will feel like in that oven..

Will charge you an extra $20 if your payment is a day late and continue charging u the $20 fee despite paying on time. For the price of $40 you can choose a better gym like la fitness or unique, don’t let them scam you. Equipment Is broken, half the treadmills don’t have a smooth surface. Half the elliptical are broken. Half of the machines aren’t screwed in properly and constantly shake. The seats don’t stay in place when you raise them up, sometimes can cause it to crash down and potentially injure you. Too cheap to throw on the AC in the summer, just cranks the fans. I’ve been here for almost 2 years and none of these issues have been fixed. Stay far far away. Choose a better gym they no longer deserve mine or anyone else’s business.

I never leave reviews but I have to leave a review on this place after nothing changes or any improvements are made, mainly because the A/C has been “broken” for 3-4 years. Same excuse every year. It’s not a residence, it’s a commercial gym. If A/C breaks, you can call any company and they have emergency repairs, but it’s not broken, it’s just saving $ by keeping it off. After 14yrs I’m switching gyms. If you want to come here, don’t bother. I’ll save you the time; here’s the current condition —— All lifting bars are bent, bathroom is dirtier than a Porto potty, always broken urinals, soap dispenser always empty 80% of time, urinals breaks and they put a sign up, “jiggle the handle to keep from running” or “plumbers on vacation” and is on the way for a month, weight scales are inaccurate, they replace bars and buy cheap bars, they ask you to sign out clips, machines are missing pins that are use to select the weight, cable racks when you slide them up and down barely move, plastic guides inside them are broken, knobs to slid knee pads up and down or slides up or down missing, pins missing, machines with holes in equip pads, out of order signs once equip for weeks, benches missing wheels to roll and move them, dumbbells are bent, broken and looks like a shark ate half of the rubber off them, they replaced one and ordered wrong size, others are just broken for almost a year, benches are missing screws so they wobble when you sit on them, holes in the gym rubber mats, rubber mats overlapping, holes in the concrete floor so if you walk in free weight area holding dumbbells you might twist your ankle, out dated equip/machines, treadmills are broken with holes in belts, 1 stair climber works, no one disinfects the gym, ac has been broken for 3-4 years with same excuse, the repair is on the way, if I call an ac guy he would be there same day, place had 8” dust strings hanging down from ac unit, they never clean the mirrors, people’s spit from squatting or exhaling heavy while lifting is all over mirrors, construction work half way done, was under construction for 2+ years, they claim permit issues, permits expired it took so long, smoothie bar products are 100% expired before they will even use them, most of time employees are walking around rather at front desk, automatic doors don’t work when you walk in, half of the time the paper towel dispensers are empty or broken, since they just fixed them a few days ago, you pay $39 a year for maintenance. Clearly pocketing it, shall I continue, every time you ask it’s always, it’s going to be amazing. That’s fine if things are getting done. I can care less about a mess or construction process. I’m not one to complain ever but after years and years it’s just pathetic. Sell me the gym. Cash in hand. I’ll run that gym 100x better and I never even owned a gym all I have to so is the opposite.

Broken dumbbells, barbells bent bad, a/c hasn’t worked in years and it makes the place disgusting. Half the treadmills are broken, bathrooms are always gross.Owner doesn’t do a thing about it and has never cared about what happens to the place.

Usually half of the treadmills are non operational. Rubber handles on equipment torn or off completely. Unusable in the summer. No a/c. Usually 82-85 degrees in there.

82-85° I'm here all summer. The owner is to damn cheap to fix the air conditioner for almost 5 years now. Still driving a Bentley tho. He don't train here so the rest of suffocate here.

Went at 4am gym was closed noone has showed up to work very inconsiderate and irresponsible. This is not the first time this has happened. They need to inform customers when the gym is opening late on certain dates or closing early. Very dissapointed.

I go to this gym only for the Zumba classes and I also take yoga. Zumba classes are offered at night: Mondays at 7:00, Tuesdays at 7:30 & on Thursdays at 6:30. The instructors are really good and you will get a good workout.

This gym has all the equipment needed to get in the best shape of your life. Unfortunately the owner has no experience in how it should be run. The manager Wilson knows what is needed but is restricted by the the owners lack of understanding and gym management experience. It's been under construction for over 2 years. Also has a lot of immature people that train there. But what do you want for as little as 10 dollars a month.

Cons:
If you plan on working out here wear good headphones that go extra loud, select groups that train here are extra obnoxious . Scream like monkeys, and bark between each reps. Disrespectful members and staff has yet to rectify the situation.

They are almost done with the renovations, It's been a long time. Looking forward to the completion. Other than that, it's a fully equipt gym, hand weights, machines, area to stretch, baby sitting, classes, cardio equipment. All of the things you would expect to see at a gym.

Been going here for a few years. It's very large, and has all the equipment you could need. I almost never have trouble finding the appropriate machine or space to lift, except during some weekdays between 6 and 7 PM.

Several things come to mind when thinking of this gym,   great local location, nice people that come there and employees that care.  Thats that good stuff, But it is unfortunate nothing nothing else good about the place !  i am amazed that they even keep their franchise license.  It the lack of up keep that's troubling, the filth and the lies about when things will be done.  The most pressing issue is the lack of air conditioning, every year we are given the same excuse that you can pick from   1] parts are on order 2] power company  cuts supply 3] We keep temperature at 77  because people find it more comfortable and its energy saving. I think excuse 3 is the most honest  and  with the real reason it cost to much to run it.   They dont care about the health of the clients and that the gym is impossible to get a quality work out in,  even the pads on the equipment are torn and are never fixed.   As for the renovation   Simple   your get what you pay for and thats obvious they went cheap when you see how poorly the craftsmanship is.   As others stated in their reviews, the owner does not care, it does surprise that Retro allow thier brand to be represented in such a manner.

I did early morning exerscice as guest visit for one day as I was travelling. I really liked the gym and the staff was nice and freindly. Locker room was clean and managed. You have plenty of choices to target different muscle group using machines. I recommend this place for somone who lives close by.

Love this place. After many years of being away from the gym due to a bad accident I'm back. So many pieces of equipment allow me to train through my injuries- I might even consider competing again. I'll never go to another club. On a side note, the cleaning staff is amazing, this place is always clean

I've been a member for 15 years and still love this gym. Wilson is awesome (even if he is a Cowboys fan). Every facility has room for improvement, but the vibe is welcoming and inspiring. I do miss the Holiday Dinners they used to have though.

To me this gym is 5 stars. They really have a lot of equipment, and plenty of free weights. Pricewise, it's excellent if what youre looking for is to get a good workout. However, if you are looking to join this gym for the retro fitness brand and 'retro stuff'; like smoothies and whatever else you are likely to find in a standard retro fitness gym, then I would avoid it. There are renovations that appear to have been ongoing for a while. The renovations are not in the way of any of the gym equipment, which is all I really care about!

hands down the worst gym i’ve ever been a member of.

the staff is really very nice and quite helpful. no complaints there.

the problem is that nothing gets done. i’ve been going there for 2 years (and only because it’s the closest Retro Fitness to where I live now) and is absolutely bare bones - free weights, resistance machines, and treadmills. no juice bar, no tanning, no promtions for any classes (no classes period from what i’ve seen), none of the stuff that made me join Retro in the first place.

for the same money, you can join a much better gym. pick any one but this one.

Worst gym, and worst gym owner ever!
This gym has been under renovation for 2 years, yes 2 years. The brand new LA Fitness on North Ocean in Farmingville was built from the ground up faster then this so called renovation. This owner is Obvioulsy cheap and won't take out his wallet and pay his contractors to finish he renovations. They bought 5 new treadmills in attempt to stop people from complaining. Unfortunately they need more then 5 new treadmills. They put up a half wall around the ghetto cardio area that makes it almost impossible to get in and out of, which is a fire hazard. If there is ever a fire and the cardio is packed people won't be able to get out. There's only 1 way in and out. The Fire Marshal needs to look at this. Plus now they are moving the cardio to face outside looking at the beautiful crack houses across the street. There is way to much going on behind the cardio to have them look outside. This owner deals in real estate in manhattan, and he would not let this bad disaster of a renovation go on in his real estate deals. He keeps putting Wilson in a tough position with the lies he tells a Wilson and Wilson having to juggle the complaints of memebers. Wilson tries and tries hard to keep everyone happy. This owner needs to sell this gym to someone who actually knows how to run a gym. As long as this cheap owner owns this place it will never be complete. Many members have complained to corporate and all corporate does is forward the complaint to the owner which it falls on deaf ears. Corporate does not care either. Go to another gym, I would give no stars if it were an option. The owner will respond with a very generic response to this saying to call Wilson to discuss my concerns. Finishing the renovation quickly at this point is the only appropriate response.

After coming here for a while now I have come to realize that the renovations will never happen. What’s even more evident is that the Ronkonkoma location has constantly stepped up and kept their gym not only very clean, but has consistently upgraded equipment. The PJS location has crappy equipment, missing weight pins, broken cardio equipment and is in disrepair. The HVAC is never working well and the wifi does not work. Not sure where all the fees are going but apparently not into the renovations that have been going on forever. It may be worth the 10 minute ride to the location that cares about its customers.

The gym has good equipment and people are very nice, but they really need to open up on time more consistently. It feels like one day every few weeks the morning crowd is waiting in the parking lot for the place to be opened. Sometimes 15 minutes sometimes almost 1 hr. Stop apologizing retro team. We don't need apoogies - we need promptness.
