I really hope they improve their cleaning standards, there is often dust rolling across the floor, which is not acceptable. Members should also be encouraged to wipe down machines after use.
On top of that, the manager was extremely rude and unprofessional, with a very dismissive attitude. Definitely not the kind of experience you expect from a place that you pay to be at.

This has been a nightmare since that child center opened next door. it's been bad prior due to the other 2 day cares, but now it's gotten worse that i signed up to a new gym after years with retro. If it wasn't for that and the fact there's only one cross cable machine, I'd give it 5 stars. Definitely clean, and I love that there are 4 squat racks. I wish they would take the screens off the treadmills. They don't work, and you have a nice view of the outdoors. Also the summers have been brutal due to limited/ no ac.

I used to go to a different gym on the island (Hint: it's named after a city in California) and if you read it's reviews (just look up any of their three locations), you'll know why I'm now in search of a new gym.

Can't say for any other locations but this Tottenville location is smaller than I thought but at the same time, it's super clean and the staff who signed me up was super chill (Started with a V).

I not only value how clean this location is but the other gym goers are very respectable about the equipment. Weights are racked where there need to be and everyone keep to themselves for the most part. Great gym. Can't wait for future visits.

Perfect Gym for me The Staff is friendly, The gym has everything I need . The smoothie bar makes my post workout supplements simple and delicious . I am new to working out and this gym is the right amount of comfort for a begginer , but has the tools needed to become a pro. I especially boxing room punching bags of all kinds, and rowing machines. If I'm going to do cardio I rather do something like box instead of run in place so this works well for me.

This gym is horrible. The equipment is not maintained and the staff is rude. You try to get help from the manager Sarah and she offers no help. The staff is always cursing when they are standing around socializing behind the counter. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. There are also roaches in the locker rooms. This gym overall is so nice & great. It was my first time going to the gym and i’m so glad I ran into the manager Sarah. She gave me a tour of the gym as well as recommended her favorite protein shake to me which was amazing btw !! She was so patient and nice throughout the whole experience. The other staff as well always make sure the equipment is in order and clean for the next people to use. There is also a staff member always available to answer any questions you have which is great too. Definitely will be keeping my membership and continue going to this gym!

Retro fitness of tottenville has the best staff and they work together in an orderly manner. I would reccomend this gym to anyone and the people who work out there are very nice and well mannered. However, there are always a few that think they are tough guys/women and act out when they are completely wrong! Also I love the FEMALE manager Sarah, she is very organized and sweet and prioritizes her customers to provide the best customer satisfaction possible! P.S if you are going to cause a scene about holding your jacket when there are locker rooms that are used for that, go find another gym respectfully. the gym facility itself was nice . However, the customer service I received from the staff was not up to par. It's unfortunate that they were rude and unaccommodating towards me, which is unacceptable behavior from any establishment.

As a customer, you should always feel respected and valued, and it's unfortunate that i did not receive that level of service at Retro Fitness. It's concerning that the female manager did not make any effort to provide excellent customer satisfaction. It's the manager's job to ensure that customers are being treated well and that any issues are being addressed promptly.

Based on my experience, it's difficult to recommend Retro Fitness on Veterans Rd. to anyone looking for a gym with good customer service. While the gym itself may be nice, the staff's behavior towards me was unacceptable and disappointing. It's important for businesses to prioritize their customers and provide a positive experience, and unfortunately, this gym did not meet that expectation.

The owner of the gym does not maintain any of the machines or equipment most of the machines are broken.. very nasty people working there make it unpleasant to be in the atmostphere. I had a guest pass for my girlfriend and the manager joe threw it out in the garbage and demanded to charge an additional fee and told us to leave the gym.. the guy smelled like he just came from a bar and reaked of alcohol.. also the employees were insulting other members that made them cancel their memberships and I am going to switch gyms right now for sure never going back there again. This location should honestly be shut down because they give retro fitness a very bad and unprofessional name. And maybe we will have the corporate come out and shut them down. I thought while paying for a premium membership I would be able to work out peacefully upstairs with others who would like to do the same. I thought wrong after having machines taken up by KIDS who were hanging out. And after over hearing their conversations about how they can’t wait to get their license this means that they are too young to even have a membership at the gym. And I’m glad that there is a desk upstairs that appears to be there for an employee, has never been used. And it’s impossible to go down stairs and workout when even more children are having social hour instead of working out.

I have been a member of Retro Fitness for many years and had many different trainers. I met Louie my personal trainer I knew he can help me achieve my goal. He makes working out fun and inspires me to reach my goal.
I am very impressed by his passion to help his clients, his knowledge and his ability to connect with his clients. Its because of him I re-signed up for a personal training. Louie is very caring and attentive.He knows my limits. He encourages and motivates me to do better. He helped me develop my mind set in a positive way and I have changed to a person who thinks "I can do it"!

I was requesting a refund from their payment service providers ABC Financials because as the gym was close March, April, June, July 2020. I was charged for for more than I should have for the two memberships. I did post a negative review as I will now retract due to the update below.

Update as of 5:41 pm 1/12/2021 - I received word the payment service provider ABC Financials will be cancelling my memberships without further charges, which is the correct thing to due unprecedented circumstances of 2020. I do hope 2021 is a better year financially for Retro Fitness as I had been a member for many years at this location and was very happy with the location and staff....and only until the last dispute did I encounter anything negative about this Retro Fitness or their payment service provider. But it has been resolved and I wish only success to Retro Fitness Charleston, Staten Island for years to come.

My go to home gym. I joined in November 2019, friendly staff, very helpful. Very good atmosphere. Only reason for four stars is because some of the electronic equipment does not work and sometimes during peak hours the bathroom trash gets overstuffed with paper towels...But these are minor issues. There are plenty of trash bins and tredmills to choose from.

While the staff is great; the business end of this organization is HORRIBLE, it should be avoided based on that alone. I purchased a membership as a gift and tried to cancel after a year and they will not let you. Certified Letter needed or talk to manager, whom is almost never in. In the event you are able to take off from work to see him on his schedule ( 9am - 2pm) he takes long lunches and your unable to cancel your membership. Do yourself a favor and Join one of the other gyms in the area, Intoxx, Powerhouse, LA Fitness.

I am always greeted with a smile from all staff members who are never bothered to help out if I need it. i have LA fitness membership but started working closeby and decided to give this gym a try using online promo of free two days pass before switching, the staff was terrible, they did not know their policies and made comments about their own promotional employee how she did not know what she (Lynda) was talking about even though Lynda advised me to simply take her text with promotional code to gym and it will be hasle free.
well staff was very unpleasant, uncooperative and straightforward said its 10$ fee for one day pass with connotation that i shuld be thankful getting one free pass and not ask for second day which was offered to me by Lynda... manager looked confused, he was super unfriendly and so was another female worker who made statememt lynda ( their own employee) is not authorized to do this! seriously is this a joke? i take time out change outfit show up and be greeted with so much negativity for using their own 2 day promotion thats ridiculous, no thank you not changing my gym

I’m a member of LA fitness and have been coming to this gym lately due to a recommendation of a friend under her guest pass. I have to say, the staff is friendly and the gym is always spotless. The one thing ive noticed is the poor girl who is stuck cleaning the whole gym. The multiple times I’ve went to this gym I’ve seen the same girl scrubbing machines that people drop drinks on right after she’s done cleaning. She’s constantly re racking weights and re organizing the them to their corresponding spot. It’s like the gym is filled with unmannered animals. Other than the people who occupy it, the gym is a lovely environment!

The gym is great, but don't use the PT services. They had me sign an incorrect contract twice and now I am paying more than I agreed to until November. They have good trainers, but they failed terribly in all the administrative aspects making a HUGE head ache for me. Just work out on your own! Retro gets 3 stars because even though PT is through a different company, they very strongly push you towards it.

Every time I enter the gym, the staff greets you with a smile and they are here to answer/help you with any questions or problems you may have! The gym floor is SPOTLESS at all times! I've gone to other retro locations and even other gyms and it is nothing compared to tottenville! After a workout I LOVE GETTING A SHAKE! EACH SHAKE GETS BETTER AND BETTER EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!! I love retro fitnes! .. staff is so friendly and the classes provided are awesome! Great machines and very clean equipment. Definitely a 5 star gym!!!! Def recommend this gym to anyone interested in a high quality place to workout!

Weights are always all over the place. Machines are broken for extended amounts of time. Clips are always missing off of machines. Bathroom water pressure is equivalent to well-water. Water fountain is not fully clear.
They make you come in to cancel even when the membership contract is up, just to try and save the sale. Manager Jen is rude and gets frustrated quickly when dealing with customer service. After being a member for 3 1/2 years, they "changed the contracts credentials" and did not inform the people already under contract. So how do some of the rules from my orginal contract apply as well as some of the rules to the new "innovated" contract also apply? After my final payment I will never step foot back inside this degrading place.
