Trainer of trainers. When Shihan Richie speaks (that is how I refer to him inwardly, personal sentiment) I shut my mouth. Would love to learn from him in a professional capacity; only had the pleasure to be a guest where he was speaking to a dozen veterans in the business at Body Chemistry Gym where I had the pleasure to watch, earn, and learn from my misteps.

Before I met Richie I hit a plateau that no matter what I was doing, what I was eating I wasn’t seeing any results. I started with Richie the end of February. Once I started with Richie he sat me down and we discussed my goals and he asked what I was looking to accomplish. He then designed a meal plan to fit my likes and dislikes. I started the meal plan right away as well as training with him two times a week for an hour. Within the first few weeks I was seeing results and I felt so much better about myself and my body. I started out with 24.3% body fat and within two months I am down to 15.4% body fat. Richie being a science teacher has a scientific approach when he develops your meal plans as well as your workout sessions. He explains everything to you so you’ll be able to understand how they work together. For anyone looking to lose weight and get toned Richie is an excellent trainer and definitely will help you reach your goals . Remember when working out with him one of his favorite lines is “ give me one more”

Richie is not only a great trainer/coach but also an all around great person and friend. The help and knowledge he provides will absolutely drive you closer to your goals provided you put in your end of the work. He is currently helping me in my pursuit of competing in bodybuilding and the results I have gotten since going to him have been amazing. I had the pleasure of meeting Richie over 20 years ago in a local gym named BodyQuest where the best of the best not only trained but operated there and Richie was always and has always been one of the elites in both knowledge and presence. Fast forward to February of 2019, I reached out to Richie to train me for a career in the fitness world and I can't say enough positive things about him. He has the experience, the knowledge of how the human body works, he has the compassion and he has what it takes to motivate you to get to the next level. His knowledge in dieting has transformed me not only mentally but physically, and anyone who hears Richie Smythe's name all say the same thing "Oh, you're in the hands of Richie, don't worry you'll get exactly what you're looking for." I recommend him to anybody for whatever personal goal you may have. He is a mentor, a gentleman and just a great person overall and you will NOT be disappointed.

I have trained with Richie once a week for the past year and a half and can honestly say we have never done the same workout. Richie is very knowledgeable and has me doing exercises I have never done nor seen done by anyone else in a gym. I went to Richie looking to gain weight and size. I have put on 20 lbs and look bigger than my actual weight. Richie holds me accountable on correct form in exercises and always pushes me to an extra few reps or going up in weight. Also my diet has improved significantly as has my confidence and knowledge of workouts. Not only have I seen the positive change but as has my girlfriend, family, friends and strangers. He is the best trainer and hes also a funny guy with very interesting stories. I would recommend him to anyone know matter what your goals are Richie will get you the results.

When I started with Richie I was 50 pounds overweight with high blood pressure and bad knees. Richie sat me down and we discussed what I was looking for, I thought a miracle.
I explained my issues to Richie and he said he’d work with me. Richie put me on a meal plan and we started training; focusing on my weight and bad knees.
Eight months later my knees do not hurt anymore, my blood pressure is back to normal, and my weight is 215 (I’m 6’4”). I could not be more pleased!
Richie makes training very interesting. He has a vast knowledge of the human body and nutrition. I ask a lot of questions about the exercises I am doing and the effects. Richie being a physics teacher, explains everything in great detail.
For anyone looking to get in shape or to rehab injuries, Richie is an excellent trainer to help you meet your goals.

After recovering from a terrible fall with broken neck, hip and shoulders replaced, and severe back problems I tried working out at the gym again and was lucky to meet Richie Smyth. I was about five years out of physical therapy when I met Richie and explained to him what I had been through. At the time I was working out at the gym 3 times a week trying to gain more mobility and strength.
I couldn't swim a lap at a pool after having swum competitively in college, I couldn't do a push-up because of my replacement shoulders and I couldn't bench press a third of the weight I used to bench press. I wanted to be able to do a triathlon, be stronger at the bench press and have a little strength in my shoulders.
Four years ago Richie took me under his wing, and while he did say it would take time, Richie said he would strengthen my shoulders, give me more mobility and increase my overall strength.
Today I have swum that triathlon with my daughters, I can do 40+ push-ups and I can bench press almost double my weight!! Richie has been unbelievable in knowing exactly what I should be doing at the gym, and also not doing!!He has my total confidence, I do exactly what he tells me to do, and the results are beyond what medicine can do. Richie has given back to me my physically active life, a renewed belief in myself and a huge mental lift. What can I say? .... except Thank you!!

Richie is extremely knowledgeable and professional. I have been training with him for several years and have been very happy!!!! I used to try and exercise on my own but would end up pulling a muscle or getting hurt. That has never happened with Richie's guidance.He keeps me focused and motivated which isn't always easy. Richie Smyth has been my trainer for 19 years. He has rehabbed me through a serious injury, helped me recoup from several surgeries, and has kept me fit and lean.
I am a 71 year old woman with low blood pressure and normal cholesterol levels. I can’t thank him enough for keeping me so healthy.
My workouts are never dull because Rich is continually challenging me to do more than I think I am capable of. In fact, with his help I am able to plank for 9 minutes!
I value every session I have with Richie because as difficult as it might feel while going through it, long term I always feel better!
And he also has a terrific sense of humor! Most sessions I am laughing my way through the physical effort.

Wow! Are the words I’m left with after training with Richie. Always encouraging and motivating you to reach your potential. I’ve trained with others and they don’t come close to Richie. If you’re looking for a trainer, search no more. Richie has the knowledge and the experience you need.
I’m eager to continue working with him. The results are unreal. I lost 10 lbs in 3 weeks and dropped from 10% body fat to 6%!

In writing this review it is important to understand where I started. When I first met Richie I was 258lbs and 23% body fat. I had been struggling with my weight for years. After starting in November on a steady regiment of diet and exercise both provided by Richie, I have lost 10% body fat and have lost 43lbs in 8 months. The gains that I have seen have not just been in weight but in my overall conditioning and health. I had health issues from high blood pressure and cholesterol to name a few. I no longer struggle with any of these issues. I also never struggle with my weight which has always been hard for me. Richie is the whole package when it comes to health and fitness goals. His knowledge is vast and by following his instruction you can achieve success in changing your overall health and fitness goals. Aside from him fitness expertise, Richie is one of the most honest and straightforward people I’ve met. He is a true mentor of mine.
This is my personal experience with Richie:
When I initially connected with Richie I mentioned to him that I was eager to strength train but I needed help modifying workouts to accommodate joint issues. Richie was intrigued by the challenge but also confident. He explained that he could not only work around my issues, but also improve them. After the first 6 months of our program (3 times a week) I saw a major improvement in my physique, strength, and most of all my joint issues were 80% gone. We continued the regimen, but constantly changing the routines (almost every 2 weeks), and within another 4-6 months my joint problems were gone 95%. Richie’s approach to concentrate on surrounding muscles in a very controlled manner while embedding cardio, flexibility, and other techniques into the program was so personalized and clearly very effective. My progress surprised my doctors and eliminated the need for surgery.
To make things more complicated for Richie, I changed my goals on him every Fall. Leading up to the winter, we focused on improving my endurance and balance as I prepared for a long snowboarding season.
Richie showed me that with patience and hard work every goal is achievable. I never thought I’d be able to do a push up given the extreme elbow pain I had.. but after almost a year of focus I was able to healthily do dozens at a time with no issue and no pain.
