We took the kids for their first rock climbing experience and they had a blast! I highly recommend booking a staff lesson if you're a first time climber to learn the ropes (no pun intended ha). We also got the day pass to play on the auto belays after, it's good value if you grab it with the lesson. It was a bit hot in the building but fans blowing everywhere kept it decent. We will definitely be back to learn how to belay which gives access to a ton more climbing opportunities.

From scheduling to our climbing lock-in, the staff made it very easy. My scouts had a great time and requested to go back soon. The crate stacking was a huge hit with the scouts.

I took my 2nd grade class on a field trip and it was amazing! The staff was incredibly supportive. They understood capabilities of different ages and opened walls accordingly. They used clear and helpful language when giving directions. As a teacher, I was relieved to have other adults I could trust. The staff was so attentive and patient while working with young kids and their parents. I've grown up going to ROCventures and even as an adult this is one of the best places in Rochester to stay active and entertained!

Iβm not a climber but my son has been climbing there for years and we have had nothing but positive experiences. There is a lot to learn and ways to develop yourself and the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. My son really likes how itβs organized and the variety of climbs. He plans to continue to participate in competitions and leagues so there is a lot there for anyone whoβs looking for a new activity. Itβs also fun for anyone whoβs just wants to drop in and climb for the first time. Weβve brought people throughout the years and they always have a blast.

I can't say enough good things about this place. A place where you can learn to climb, continue or improve. Routes are changed on a regular basis, the staff is super friendly and helpful, there's a great atmosphere, the cost is very reasonable especially compared to a commercial rock climbing gym. They also offer special event throughout the month and kids camps.

I have been climbing at RocVentures for the past 3 years and have enjoyed every minute of it. Not only is there a wide variety of bouldering and top-rope routes that are updated frequently, the staff is very friendly and helpful. One time when I was struggling with a climb, one of the route setters was incredibly kind and essentially offered me free coaching to help me out. Another benefit is the amount of specials they offer, all designed to make climbing more affordable and accessible. The other day staff members helped me figure out the best membership option for me and saved me a lot of money in the process. For all these reasons, RocVentures is the best indoor climbing gym in Rochester and I am so grateful to have stumbled upon this gem!

RocVentures is a true gift of a place to challenge yourself, physically, mentally, and emotionally. A veritable one stop shop for getting a great, functional workout, meeting people endeavoring in similar ways, and having fun with friends and family. I really appreciate the wide range of ages and skill levels of the climbers there; it's as enjoyable seeing the young kids trying it for the first time, as it is observing the techniques and tenacity of the experienced climbers. The staff is friendly, very approachable, and helpful. That was actually the first thing that I noticed when I started going more consistently about a year ago. I felt welcomed. I also appreciate the improvements that they have made over the years; they clearly care about providing a good product to the community. Thank you RV .

The facility itself has a unique charm in a cool part of the city, located nearby the Eastman house, the art gallery district, and East Avenue. Great for an active date night, or to bring a friend and head out to a nearby spot for a cocktail or snack.
Interior is clean and while not brand new walls, all the important elements (fresh hold sets from many companies, clean surfaces, well kept equipment) is all clearly cared for, you feel a bit more seen if there are questions, and above all the courses well curated, but more on that in a bitβ¦
As you enter youβll be met with the helpdesk right in front of you. Staff is kind and welcoming, both knowledgable of climbing and customer service. Fear not if entering a climbing gym for your first time- you will find answers, and you will belong!
Ive been a member for around 9 months now, with just over a year experience, and RocVentures is my βthird placeβ. Itβs where i fell in love with climbing, and prefer it to the other gyms in the area. The bouldering section is smaller than some of the others in the area, but it is well set and frequently rotating, so thereβs enough time to work a project at the top of your grade, and new settings shortly after.
There are decent lead courses as well, still beyond my skill level but pretty cool to watch others who can.
Iβd like to say my appreciation is due to the challenge of the routes (which is considerable), but iβm still learning to get good:). The routes and boulder projects rotate regularly, and have distinctive challenges i enjoy. Iβm not wise enough in the sportβs terminology to break this down in detail, but the route setters know how to create variations on multiple themes, and beyond hold shape, color and grading, there are distinctive challenges to each course that i prefer over other gymsβ course setting in the area.
The place feels very genuine and passionate about its community and sport. And to me anyway, it has a perfect balance of available assistance, and respect for each climberβs curiosity and problem solving.
After my wife and I found ourselves coming to climb several days a week, we encouraged our extended family to join us. We reserved a party which included space to eat and hang out, help from staff who could belay first timers, and we were able to try out the ropes course situated along the upper regions of the restored building. I wish they could expand with even more courses, but theyβve utilized almost every section of the interior in effective fashion.
In conclusion- Its a family run business with great service and once you get a bit into the sport you see the challenge and uniqueness in the set routesβ¦ if youβve made it this far-quit reading and go check the place out!

Friendly staff and a very clean gym. They have locking carabiners for the climber end, so they do not need to tie Figure 8, which is easier. Grades are very close to the outdoors, and I climb the same grades as outdoors.

I feel very lucky to have this unique place in a small city like Rochester, especially when most modern, corporatized gyms unfortunately do their best to resemble a shiny suburban mall. The thoughtful route-setting makes you grow as a climber from day one. Staff are friendly and help you figure out how to maximize your climbing goals, whatever they may be. Lots of auto-belay options and a Tension Board also make it a great place to train solo. Five stars, without a doubt.

If you want to climb, this is by far the better of the two climbing gyms at Rochester. The other place is all shiny and fancy - but the climbing is pretty sub-par. Edit: there's now a tension board and campus board for the hardcore trainers too. Second edit: The bouldering area has now been upgraded at Rocventures as well, so the bouldering is much nicer than before as well.
RocVentures has a bunch of dedicated setters that will make you think your way through routes, improve your technique and actually enjoy your time on the wall. New routes are set on a weekly to biweekly basis, so there's a good mix of projects and fresh things to do.
It's also got multiple slab walls at different angles and a chimney section, which are nice bonuses to let you explore different climbing styles. Some routes are lead climbing, some auto-belayed but most routes are top-rope with carabiners and gri-gris pre-attached to the rope, saving time on setting up for a climb. If you want to climb a route and its rope is free, you can generally get on the wall in under fifteen seconds including safety checks.
The staff are helpful and the general culture around the gym is focused but companionable. There's league climbing, which is apparently fairly popular, but not my thing. They have a fair few fun events and are very beginner- and kid-friendly with birthday parties once in a while.

As an OG RocVentures member who lives out of state now, but always returns when in town; This place is more sandbagged than vedauwoo, turkey rocks, and Joshua tree all put together. In my opinion itβs less about the grades here and more about the movement and awesome route setting. In many commercial gyms 5.6-5.10 just means jug hauling and a lack of sequences. 5.7-5.9 at RV will leave a veteran climber feeling pumped and questioning their training program. Find the right beta and sequences however, and youβre in for a really fun time. The expanded bouldering caves, tension board, and ample autobelays also makes this a feasible solo trip any day of the week. If more gyms were like RV, weβd have less underprepared climbers straining rescue resources out in the wilderness. Just my 2 cents.

Went here when I first started climbing, very beginner friendly! All of the staff is very personable and they have more than enough amateur level climbs. They have a belaying course, and if you're not interested in learning they have plenty of auto-belays. Only did bouldering will definitely try some top rope and lead next time I'm in town.
I live close to a strictly bouldering gym in Seattle and I love the problems they set but the problems here at ROCventures challenged me in a way that was extremely satisfying. I'm not an amazing (maybe not even good )climber (V3-V5) but it was good to see a different group of route setter's mindset!

I donβt leave google reviews, but for this place, I had to.
We went today to celebrate my 2 years of sobriety since the weather didnβt allow us to go kayaking. I have a fear of heights but I loved rock climbing as a kid, so I decided to conquer my fear like my addiction.
10/10 glad I came today! The staff was very friendly, full of information, and very patient with beginners (including the ADHD ridden tiny human we had with us). While I was climbing, other climbers have me advice, tips, and tricks to not only climb better, but help work through my anxiety with heights. Turned out, I wasnβt the only person who struggled with that fear.
Happy to say that a one time visit not only made me feel any to join, but also I will be taking a belay class.
If you want a good time out of your comfort zone, I strongly recommend coming here.
10/10 a safe place!

I wanted to give a huge shout out to Zack. He was so kind to my little dude who is 6, but he didn't treat him like a little kid. He spoke to my son on his level and by doing that he gave my son a huge amount of confidence. Literally my son was so afraid and he usually is a little timid at things like this, but for whatever reason Zack made him feel important and gave him the confidence boost he needed. Side note, I have no idea how to rock climb and I too was uncomfortable going but Zacks kindness and patience really helped all around. I will definitely be back and I am super excited to support Rocventures.

The interior is everything you could possibly hope for in a rockclimbing gym. A huge warehouse with a new wall to climb and different challenge levels in every square inch of the place. 10/10 would recommend for those who are new to climbing or just looking for a fun alternative to a workout.

Visited here once last month. Routes are creative, interesting, and challenging. At my home gym (which I know is soft) I project 11s. At this gym, a 9 was very challenging (about an 11- at my home gym). Staff was super nice and helpful, and a random member even gave me his free day pass! There was also a huge golden retriever walking around that was super cute.
Only drawback was that there is no A/C, and so I only went the one time, as it was July and in the mid-80s and humid outside (even more so inside).
If you're deciding between here and Central Rock, just go here. No question.

Great staff and walls. Just wish they had tables and chairs so we could hang out longer and rest up, before we go back up the wall to hang.

We brought around 10 employees to Rock Ventures for team building. They were very accommodating and easy to work with. We started with a few team building activities then moved on to some rock climbing. All of our employees had an awesome time, even those that were nervous. We had 2 rock venture team members with our group that were amazing. They kept us safe, made suggestions when necessary and most importantly, in my opinion, made sure we had fun. We will do this again in the near future!

Great space for family, friends, and an active date to see if you can start to climb together. Helpful staff and working out your muscles you don't work out unless you are Spiderman.

Great environment for beginners to advanced climbers. Lots of staff to assist. Super friendly and knowledgeable. Had my kids 11th birthday party there. Great size and open space to watch the whole climbing room. It does need some renovation however. Dated furnature and looked like wall paper was pulled off the walls. Also had a few issues with communication during the booking process but overall great experience and everyone had a great time which is what counts.

Great community overall for new and experienced climbers, by not only encouraging members to continue their progress every time we climb, but trying new routs as the are set that might be more in our wheelhouse.
Their setters love to hear feedback on their new sets to ensure their setting is as accurate to the the Crag as possible!
