Did 1 on 1 private for my 4 year old since August till now. The first month in August was honestly great, my daughter is on the spectrum and the instructor she had was a older gentleman who was teaching her well and all of that, they never told us that he was only available for her in August, come September we had to switch to a different instructor. He was more of the normal young people you see there every day. This is when it started going downhill. The biggest complaint I have is there’s no continuation with the lessons. The lessons for each of the different instructors basically broke down to letting her just play around and eventually going down under water and grabbing a toy and then getting out of the pool on their own. I understand it takes time but I would love to see some sort of continuation between all the instructors because everyone was different and just treated her basically like a new student, I feel like the money we spent was wasted and am glad to cancel. Giving a 1 star doesn’t feel appropriate because the classes she had with the older instructor was great. But the rest of it does feel
1 star worthy. Take that as you will. Def not happy or satisfied overall. Also when speaking with the person in charge about my concerns before canceling they just kind of brushed it off… they just care about making money and not really about the children.

I can’t say enough good things about Saf-T-Swim! I’ve been bringing my two kids here for the past few months, and it has been such a joy watching them grow more confident in the water each week. The instructors are so patient, caring, and truly know how to make the kids feel comfortable.

I had the most pleasant experience at Saf t swim. The ambiance was incredibly inviting, and the personnel were exceedingly courteous and supportive. The amenities were impeccably maintained, the pool was spotless, and my son relished it due to the warmth of the water. I wholeheartedly suggest Saf t swim to anyone in search of a refreshing and enjoyable swimming experience.

Unfortunately, this swim school fell far short of expectations. There was no consistency in instruction—different teachers almost every week, with no clear plan or continuity. The instructors who were present often seemed unprepared and disengaged, offering little more than minimal supervision. The lack of structure and accountability made it impossible to see real progress, and it left the impression that the program prioritizes convenience over quality. For the price and commitment required, families deserve far better. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for dependable and effective swim instruction.

Jessica is the best with my almost 4 year old. She has been working with her for about a year and it’s amazing to see how much Jessica has taught her. The pool is great for learning also not too large or deep to make kids feel comfortable.

I have an autistic child who has an amazing instructor named Noelia. She motivates and exemplifies patience with my child. She encourages him to keep trying and has made so much progress in learning how to swim. He looks forward to his sessions with her every week. If you have a child with special needs; she is the ideal Person for your child to work with at this location.

My two boys went here for about a year and a half (until starting full time school). The staff were always pleasant and helpful. They truly made an extra effort to make the kids feel welcome and loved. Jessica was one of our instructors and she became like family to us! My boys love her and always looked forward to seeing her. She is patient, kind, and very talented. At first my older son was very afraid to go under water - now he’s like a fish! Thank you, Jessica and all the rest of the team!

We’ve been coming to this location for about 10 years. Our kids have been with amazing instructors and have made great strides and have a lot of confidence in the water. We’ve had amazing experiences with Bettina, Jalani, Jake and Taylor who are phenomenal instructors. Chris(usually the lifeguard) and Kayla(front desk) are always a pleasure to interact with.
There is plenty of seating for parents outside the pool area and large one way windows allow you to watch your kids progress without distracting them.
Having said that, I wish the management would look into sprucing up the appearance of the place. The lights in the pool area are extremely dim. A well lit area is conducive to having a good learning experience and also makes it easier for the parents that have to watch from behind the window. The parking lot floods when it rains and has a lot of pot holes. Although the parking lot may be the responsibility of the owner of the property and not Saf T Swim. For the prices we pay, I would think that these are worthwhile improvements.

Since my son learned to walk we have been bringing him to this Saf-T-Swim location. Now at 2.5 years old he is swimming so well, has no fear of the water, and can get out on his own. It makes us so comfortable to bring him around water knowing he has the fundamentals to staying afloat and safe. I could not recommend Jessica enough to anyone who wants to learn to swim. Weekly swim class has become one of my son’s favorite things to do and she really is amazing at making him feel welcome and comfortable in the water. The lifeguards and front desk staff are always so nice and personable every visit as well.

We're both very excited when we have Julietta as her makeup instructor! We're hoping to have her as the permanent instructor in the near future. It is heartwarming watching them together. Highly disappointed with this location. My daughter was enrolled for over a year and initially had a great experience thanks to a wonderful instructor who, unfortunately, left. After that, there was no consistency in staffing despite multiple complaints. By the time we found another instructor she liked, the damage was done, she had lost interest and was being made to repeat skills she had already learned. I chose to terminate the lessons, but instead, the account was paused and later reactivated without my consent, resulting in additional charges. When I called for clarification, I was told I couldn’t be refunded for the first month and would receive only a partial refund for the second—I'm still waiting. With two daughters, I had hoped to return in the future, but after this experience, I will not be going back to Saf-T-Swim.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Saf-T-Swim of Oceanside. I registered my daughter in hopes that they would help improve her swimming technique, but from the start, the experience was very frustrating. The communication was poor—during her first class, she was placed with the wrong instructor level. When I spoke to the store manager, he promised to look into it but never got back to me for several days. In the second class, they placed her with a different instructor but repeated the same lesson as the first.

To resolve this, I arranged for one-on-one lessons, but scheduling them became a nightmare. The class was canceled three times in a row with last-minute notice and no clear updates. The staff showed little interest in resolving any of these issues, and at times, they were downright dismissive.

The lack of organization, combined with these repeated cancellations, wasted two months of our time. Now, with the weather getting colder, we’re left feeling like no progress has been made. It's not just about the money—more importantly, it’s the time and effort we put in, only to be met with disappointment. I had high hopes for this swimming school, but it has been an incredibly frustrating and unsatisfactory experience. I would not recommend it to others looking for a professional and reliable learning environment.

I take my daughter for her weekly swim lessons at the Oceanside location. But, this week they had divided the pool into smaller 6 sections which left no room for my daughter to practice her swimming lesson. I mean the space was technically smaller than a kiddy pool that people usually have at homes. My daughter hated the subdivision as after just a couple of strokes, the designated space ended. I believe the child will end up practicing a specific activity in a much longer duration. I strongly suggest management to reconsider this partitioning of the pool. Else, will have to think of other options.

Normally this Saf-T- Swim location has been great for my daughter and she loves her instructor Brianna. Now with the introduction of the saftey barriers my daughter is unable to do what she is normally able to do with her instructor. The instructor has to cut out many of the activites in my daughters taylored lesson plan. The barriers take up the majority of swim space in the pool thus making it very difficult to instruct students. Many of the parents and instructor do not like this new set up. My daughter hates it. If this continues I am afraid I will have to take my daughter elsewhere.

After receiving no satisfaction from the staff and “management,” regarding on going scheduling issues and quality of service provided, I decided to cancel my swim lessons for my son. Because I cancelled after the 7th of the month in October, Safety Swim refused to refund my money for the two unused lessons for the month valuing at $130.

What’s disappointing is that our family had been customers for the last 4 years. In that time, there have been countless instructors that have handled my son due in part to the employees the facility hires.
The majority of the instructors are high school kids who really have no motivation to work it seems. Instructors are hired and then quit a few months later, so then your kid is now starting at square one with someone new. Only to have the cycle repeated time and time again. My son was only moved up a level twice in a 4 year period.

There have been countless times that we have been cancelled on. This past March, we had an instructor who did a no call- no show as my son was now standing on the deck, in his bathing suit, waiting to go in the pool.
The stand-in supervisor for that day, who was working behind the desk, was mortified that he ended up taking his clothes off and taking my son into the pool to do his lesson.

The final straw for me was in September when our instructor that we had for a couple of months was gone for about 3 weeks because she didn’t have working papers.

The supervisor is aware of all of this and has also received similar complaints, yet the company changed their billing and how they operate so now those who are enrolled are no longer enrolled in any kind of package, and the rate nearly doubled within the last year and half. You’re paying $65 per lesson and they bill you a month ahead of time. If you stop your lessons, your screwed out of your money. They’ll offer you “tokens” to have the classes made up but when there’s little to no availability on their behalf, you’re out of luck.

A piece of advice to the powers that be—-Ahem, Brittany, please hire quality staff who want to work and are serious about their job. Offer better training for your workers and offer flexibility when it comes to refunds. It’s not the customers fault when the facility can’t offer satisfactory services because they can’t hire reliable staff - and you’re charging upwards of $250-$300 a month.

Now that Echo Park and the Oceanside JCC are back to offering lessons, I am hoping other parents will get fed up and leave the way we did to prove a point. It’s a real shame.

This location cancelled my son and daughters 1 on 1 swim lessons all the time. They would then schedule makeup lessons which they would also cancel at the last minute. My kids ended up with about 5 makeup classes each..which they then claimed that they didn't see in the system. So I basically paid for lessons...for them to be cancelled and have their makeup class tokens disappear. How convenient 🙄. Do not use this swim school. Very unprofessional.

I am so disappointed in the lack of communication and professionalism. The workers give out false information and the customer still has to pay for the mistake. I was billed literally 3 days a part without proper notification this would happen. Then when I tried to inquire and request a refund, I was told I had to wait for a manager to call me 3 days later. Of course FOUR days later, no one ever bothered to call. Not to mention, I was hung up on. For the amount of money that It costs, It is unacceptable to receive such poor customer service. More than one worker ADMITTED that it was their error but yet they refuse to provide the refund or cancel the classes. The policy to cancel a session is allegedly 24 hours. I attempted to cancel within 192 hours and was told no! It doesn’t make sense. The communication needs to improve. To add icing on the cake, on day one, the instructor was late without apology or at least extending the lesson to make up for the lost time. I am beyond irritated. I gave them a second chance after my daughters were bounced around between instructors last summer and here I am already dissatisfied with this horrific experience.

They get your kids excited to practice and pass levels then just start canceling last minute week after week. Twice I was left explaining to my disappointed child, who is already in his bathing suit, why his lesson was canceled last minute.

If you’re lucky your replacement instructor will care about helping your child but that’s 50/50. Don’t worry while their management is sub par their billing system is A+ & will charge you on time no matter how bad they screw up

After my daughter started swim at 5 months she had a great instructor who soon after went on to college. After that we were bounced around a bit and I was not happy because she lacked instructor consistency and considered quitting SafTSwim altogether. We were introduced to Cat Abarca and she is the SAVING GRACE for our experience at safety swim. She is very patient with our daughter, always professional, super communicative and an overall joy. My daughter as well as my husband and I have grown to love and appreciate Ms.Cat. Thanks to her my daughter is a confident Level II swimmer at 2 years old. We are positive that with continued lessons with Cat she will only become better and stronger! Here are my reasons why I will never go back to any Saf-T-Swim. Buyer Beware!
PROBLEM 1 - I called in the summer to find out the cost of their class packages. I was told $206 for 6 classes. I decided to table the classes until the fall. By the time I came in to sign my child up in the fall, the price was quoted as $299 for 6 classes. Like really? Their excuse was that the prices in the summer are cheaper......apparently THAT much cheaper.

PROBLEM 2 - Apart from the paid classes, I was looking to bring my child in for extra practice in the pool whenever I could. Think a family swim - me and her. I inquired about this...it's not allowed at Saf-T-Swim. I was shocked, because having learned to swim as an adult, I fully understand, that even for children, it is impossible to learn to swim quickly from one 30-min session each week. At the YMCA family swim/practice was highly recommended and encouraged.

PROBLEM 3. Though I should have known better after problems 1 & 2, I decided that I really wanted my child to learn to swim. So I signed her up for a class package. First things first, many of their instructors are teenagers, and I'm convinced from observing them, and comparing them to my own swim instructors, that they aren't 100% sure what they're doing. The first instructor my child had, though very nice and respectful, taught my daughter nothing she didn't already know. For 6-7 weeks straight, he had her hold her floaty, kick through the pool on her belly, then on her back for at least 20 mins of each 30 mins class. Then he would try to get her to jump into the pool, but she was always afraid. So he just gave up and had her repeat the belly and back kicking until the class was over. He taught my daughter nothing she didn't already know. Anyway, one day he got upset with her for not wanting to jump into the pool so I had enough and asked for another instructor.

BIG PROBLEM 4. The 2nd instructor was supposed to be the BEST AND GREATEST instructor ever. Moms swore by him. My child's first class with him was superb, my daughter seemed to make so many strides in one 30-min class, we were all very pleased. The second class, however ----I caught him not looking, but staring, up under my daughters skirted bathing suit more than once (at least 2-3 times), and no I don't question what I saw because I affirmed and re-affirmed what I was seeing. My daughter is under 10 and I must keep my child safe at all cost. SAF-T-SWIM will not get another $ from my pocket. Thankfully I was able to inform their corporate concerning this serious issue. I mean, there are children here, hundreds of children. Corporate expressed concern and sent my money back, but buyer beware. There are other swim school options on Long Island.

This place was highly recommended. However, it was so disappointing. My daughter initially loved her instructor, but the she quit this place. My daughter was then passed around every single session with different instructors. Her folder sometimes can't even be found. She keeps on trying until she was able to meet all required test to pass the level and was looking forward to ring the bell. But the instructors keeps saying "she passed but since I'm not the regular instructor, she can't pass the level". My daughter got so frustrated and just quit it. At 4 years old, she said, I don't want to swim anymore, I did everything, but they wont let me ring the bell. It wasnt her fault that she didn't have her regular instructor. Sad. But my daughter found her happy place somewhere else.

My son has been swimming here for the past year with Daniel and Cassie and they are both great instructors. They have really pushed him and he has made big improvements in his swimming and confidence in the water. Also, I have worked with Amanda at the front desk on many occasions scheduling classes and make ups. She is AWESOME! She is very friendly and easy to work with. She always helps me figure things out. If you need to work with the front desk, I suggest you ask for her :)

It’s common for the instructors to cancel classes last minute where your finding out as you’re getting kids dressed to leave for class or or even better you show up have your kid in the pool ready to swim and after 10min passes no insturctor . You have to walk to the front desk and they call up the instructor and they say they over slept and are not going to make it. All your offered is a “sorry” and reschedule class. Again you have to schedule this around work which is not easy your kid is not building a bond with the instructor due to missing classes so often not advancing as they should be. The times I have been to this place most of the instructors seem very young and just rather being doing something else. As far as management seems like zero accountability for their staff. I wish I would have read the reviews before spending our hard earned money at this location. At least compensate your customers with free classes when they are incovienced so then they can be rescheduled also. Wouldn’t spend anymore of our hard earned money with them unless changes are made.

This is a very bad swimming place. The Teachers are pretty rude to the kids. This is a place to waste your money. Do not waste your money over here so go somewhere else.

This place is not what it used to be. I had my son there for swimming classes and at first it was good but later his lessons would get cancelled every other week... he didn’t get to really bond with the instructor because it would constantly change so I left but celebrated his birthday there a year ago and it was a pleasurable experience.. however, I recently went back for another child’s birthday party and the host were not child friendly, the “lifeguard” of the party was sarcastic with the children and I founded to be rude. The other lifeguards/hosts were not attentive and seemed disconnected from everyone.

I'm into my second set of 6 sessions with Diane in Baby & Me and I love it. My daughter is 1 and I've seen her grow more and more comfortable in the water. Diane is very patient, friendly, knowledgeable about children and always willing to help you get comfortable with each set. I'd definitely recommend this class. I have to see how the class advances and gets more challenging but so far it's been great!

Wish i can give 0 stars. What a joke. They would constantly change my daughter’s instructor. And wouldnt give notice when one wasnt going to be available. Mind you, my daughter is autistic and loves water. I wanted her to learn to swim for her own safety. The instructors have no experience and they once tried to give my daughter an instructor who looked like he was 15. Do not take your children here. They dont care about teaching anything

If I could give 0 starts I would! This place is horrible. Signed my 2 year old up for baby and me, and after 3 lessons of realizing the instructors do absolutely nothing but waddle in the pool, I decided to try my luck at privates. I signed my son up for privates and on the way to his first lesson they called at 2:20pm (lesson was 2:30) to say ask if we were going to make it. They had us listed for 2pm classes. My father and son had already arrived and they told us that no instructor would stay 30min. As my son sat hysterical crying to go into the pool they told us that there was nothing they could do and we would need to leave. We asked if we could take him in the pool ourselves and they proceeded to tell us that we could sit on the stairs with him. This place is a joke. Instead of confirming appointments with people to avoid these kinds of issues they call you 20min (!!!) after your supposed lesson and then tell you sorry not sorry. Needless to say I got a refund only after I demanded it and I will never do business with this joke of a school. Don’t waste your time, don’t waste your money. They don’t care about teaching kids to swim.

Worst experience ever . Don't waste your money and your child's time in this place. My son is almost four year old The instructor, a young guy with obviously no major experience, spent the class showing a face without any emotion, except when he was yawning. There was a woman instructing the mommy and me session, she told me this young guy was very experienced and he knew what he was doing. No complaints about the guy, he is a kid, and probably no well paid, but the woman just want to make money with the people and your kids, she doesn't care, her name is Diana, she didn't even tried to talk with the guy. When I went to the front office asking for the manager, they told me this Diana is the manager. My fault, I should have checked reviews about this place before I went in.

Do Not Bring your children to this place!!!! Please.... Instructors are not kid friendly. They have no patience and they do not care about the kids. They have no idea how to work with children. Instructors are changed very frequently and they spend the time chatting with other instructors and leave the kids playing by themselves.

Swim instructors are great. They work with the children very well. The front staff is a different story. The front staff is unorganized and not friendly. They constantly lose files, forget to put in make-up classes and are always in bad moods. When you complain about this, the employees lose "recollection" of these events. Whenever you ask to speak to a manager they are never in or will be out for numerous days. They only call back when you call corporate. Future clientele beware.

First timer and the first two instructors were not kid friendly at all. My daughter who loves The water hated swimming after three classes The staff was fighting at front desk and almost all of the instructors look like they are miserable. It's like a swim factory...

Needless to say I would have pulled my daughter out if it wasn't that we were locked in til June. I've changed instructors god knows how many times the first few left, one was chatting the whole time and the one she has now has only been with her 2x out of about 6 sessions. I know the office number by heart as they call me every day my daughter has class to let me know her instructor is out. It's a shame bc the instructor she has now is good with her. Haven't seen a manager in the building for a while now. They have a great teaching method I'll give them that some need to put those method into effect and the others just need to show up not happy

I had to withdraw my children from the program after multiple problems with instructors and staff. Its a shame, I believed in the program and the need for water saftey....however, the staff didnt match the need.

I will say the facility is nice (inside more so than outside), there is plenty of space in the locker rooms and they also have individual changing rooms with full doors which is great when both parent and child need to change. Also, the facility is very warm so you're not freezing running from from the pool to locker/changing rooms.

That being said we took 2 classes and canceled. My little one is only 2 so it's not as if we're training for the olympics here but I just wasn't comfortable with the experience level of our instructor (1 year). Look, I'm not so old myself (early 30s), and like I said, it's not as if we need serious training, but I would like an instructor that has put in some time. I called to express my concern about her age (all the employees seem to be teens) and experience level and when a manager did call me back she advised that this instructor was her MOST EXPERIENCED and we were just in a class that was too young. After about 2 minutes, and before I was done with the discussion the manager rushed me off the phone because she had a class to teach. I was so glad she felt a parent with an issue only warranted two minutes of talk time. I agreed to try the down under class and it was worse. We had 2 instructors this time, one was the original and then another young girl. They are nice girls but it's only a 30 min class and at one point their backs were turned to us so they could have their own conversation.

Needless to say I will not be returning.

I only have good things to say. Only downside many of the instructors are college students. So that means they leave to go back to school. If your kids has no problem adjusting its cool. There is a handful of great swim instructors who are there year round, if your lucky to book them. I have a 4 year old boy and a 18 month girl who love it there. And its CLEAN, showers, changing rooms and pool. Parking not so great in the summer.

Great atmosphere, my kid is really comfortable swimming here. If you cannot make it to a schedule class you can always schedule a make up at your convenience, and babies 2 - 6 months swim for free. 😄👍
