If you’re a sauna person this place is not for you. They only have a single row and it doesn’t get very hot. For some reason they never installed an upper row. You could be in there forever.

Thank-you, thank-you for adding a Pickleball Skills class to the schedule! It's exactly what I needed! It's hard to improve by just playing you need the repetition and opportunity to practice specific skills that only this type of class can provide. Gary, our instructor was great! Very patient, an excellent teacher and he had some good tips on strategy. If you want to improve your game, you need to come join this class!

Great (relatively) new facility. Played a pickleball tournament there and had a lot of fun - even though we had our heads handed to us.

I have never seen a gym so nice! Large pool, lots of gym rooms, lots of free classes, gym equipment that automatically sets up based on your size and last workout, tons of different cardio equipment. They even have cooking classes and STEM classes for kids!

This YMCA does not clean their sauna. It smells like poop and is always wet on the floors. Comments have been made to staff but it never seems to be fixed. Many other Y members have mentioned as well.

Ive been going to this YMCA 5-6 days a week for a little over a week and I love it. The equipment is great, staff are warm and friendly, and I overall atmosphere is stellar. Im a big fan of the weightlifting area and sauna. Not a parent but there are plenty of activities for kids and they seem to love it. I would have given a 5/5 rating....however the water pressure on the drinking fountains next to the weight lifting area is atrocious. You pretty much have to put your lips to the spout to get a drink. Ive brought this up before to no avail. Other than that, I love this place.

Edit. Changed the review to 5/5 because shortly after my initial review, the pressure in the water fountains has been fixed.

We have been going to the Sand’s Y since they opened and have always been very pleased. Today, however we did not have a good experience. Our daughter in law has had extreme back pain and we wanted to have her try the pool if that would help her severe condition. We drove to the Y and at the desk we were told that we could not bring a guest into the facility. We were told that she needed to join for $50. and a monthly fee of $69. No amount of explaining the situation could bring any friendly response. We were VERY disappointed in the way it was handled. We will continue to use the Y but there is a sour note in our feelings about the Y.

I come here because I loved this place but every time I start to work out, childcare messages me to pick up my kids. I mostly go to The other locations because I have never had this problem at any of the other locations .This is the worst childcare I’ve ever been to. They are so incredibly incompetent except for Emma. Don’t take your kids here if they are infants/toddlers. The swim instructor’s are great and the so is the rest of the faculty in general. Maybe They will hire people who actually have experience with kids for their childcare one day.

They built a brand new YMCA here in Canandaigua, the options were unlimited on what could be included in the new facility, and yet they deliberately opted against including a school age child care space. So now we pay for my son the attend the YMCA before and after school program, which is located in the cafeteria of the elementary school, and he has no access to the actual YMCA. It makes no sense.

The gym equipment selection is great and the workers at child watch are top notch. My family has the YMCA of Greater Rochester passport membership which has allowed us to spend time at many of the Y’s in our area and this is our current favorite, not because it has the best selection but because of how friendly and family oriented the staff are.

Yes, I already have a review of this place. Just on a different account, but I will mention. I love how bright this YMCA is. When you walk in, it's nice for people with visually impairments to have sometimes a nice lighting set up to see. I think the staff is Wonderfully kind and generous to help you out when you need help. Overall, this YMCA is fantastic. 4 families, they do a good job at keeping everything clean and do a wonderful job to make sure you are comfortable while you are there anything?

Amazing Y!

The staff is phenomenal! When you first join, you must make an appointment to use the eGym stuff; the process is free and straightforward. Lindsey (I apologize for possibly misspelling your name) is amazing, and I enjoy talking to them!

The locker rooms are clean, and they have stalls with showers.

The pools are clean, and I enjoy the three options you have!

- Walking pool(?)
- Lap Pool
- Whirlpool

The inside track is excellent for a pre- and post-workout walk, and I love that it is labeled.

The one issue is the pool scheduling. You could walk in and see that they have lessons taking half of each pool. I get a lot of cardio in the pool, and sometimes, I feel like I can't move without bumping into someone.

Facility is immaculate, but a little snug in certain areas.

My main gripe is that they don't honor a membership through VA benifits such as Active and Fit, even though YMCA is listed as being covered. They do, however, have their own veterans discount, but the cost is triple what I currently pay for access to other YMCA's.

For now, I can get in through the national program with my membership badge from the other YMCA I went to. From what I understood from the front desk personnel, that may not always be the case, and they strongly recommend that I purchase their membership to retain access.

We love being members at the Sands YMCA it's nice to have a place to go that's not to far away. The staff there is very friendly and helpful. There are many things to do so it never gets boring.. Learning kitchen, Kids indoor playground, Teen tech room, Swimming pool, Hot tub, Sauna, Green turf, Basketball, Pickleball, Walking track above with many Studios & Many different types of exercise equipment. They have a really cool section we're the equipment sets specifically to your body profile which is pretty cool for people who don't really know what to do to make differences in the areas they want change. So that's handy!
I give the Sands Family YMCA 9 outta 10!!

The facility seems really nice, but It was extremely crowded. We were just visiting for the weekend and didn’t really feel comfortable here. Everything was really nice as far as the equipment and facilities went. The staff checked us in fine. But I didn’t really like the set up for the circuit training. We couldn’t use it because we were visitors. You had to have a wrist band and you had to do the entire circuit. I prefer how our facility lets you do your own circuit without having to use every machine every time and in the order you want to. I don’t have a lot of experience with free weights so I didn’t end up doing much while we were there. It was a little disappointing especially after seeing how nice the place is up front.

Great facility with lots of activity options. Pool, hot tub, and sauna are all great. Yoga instructors and personal trainer staff are very friendly.

Unfortunately I have to take stars away for the lack of breathing room. The equipment in the cardio and resistance areas are jam packed. The stretching area behind the treadmills can only accommodate 4-6 people at most. I witnessed someone fall on someone else because they were trying to squeeze in and share a foam mat. You have ab rollers and jump ropes but nowhere to actually use them?!

The free standing cable machines cannot be utilized at full range of motion because you are an arms length away from someone at the pulldown rack. If someone is doing bosu TRX off the accessory bars, you can't access the kettle bells, the sand bags, or other accessories on this storage rack like the foam mats (these are inconveniently tucked into the corner by the mirror).

The free weight area suffers similar problems. If people are sitting on benches in front of the mirror, you can't access any of the dumbbells. There is simply no walking space between the benches and the dumbbell rack. So if someone is doing 10 sets of say, dumbbell rows on a bench, you can't get in there and grab a set of dumbbells without sticking your butt in their face.

There's also nowhere to do lunges, farmers carry, or any other exercise that you might want to take more than 2 steps with. The backs of the 3 power racks are 1 step away from the bench press and back squat machines, and 1 step away from each other. The machines in the window are also all 1 step (or less) apart.

Please reevaluate the layout or consider removing the lesser used equipment to make the space more functional. It sounds counterintuitive, I know... but the dumbbells are super underutilized due to the proximity to any occupied benches.

I give it 4 because all the classes and amenities are great from the pool to the equipment. The only think I have an issue with is which is what took a star away is the basketball court it's way too small; for a brand new building why didn't they make it bigger. If there's a bunch of people in there you can barely shoot or even play a game. Definitely should have gone back to the drawing board for that.

This Y is hands down the best gym I’ve ever worked out at. The facility is beautiful and the equipment is amazing. The BEST part is the staff, especially the instructors. Every single spin instructor is fabulous. They keep me coming back daily. The yoga classes are also fantastic. EGym is pretty cool and the staff at the wellness center are always so helpful. The app is great and has many great features. I love the coffee bar and grabbing a fresh ground cup of coffee on my way out-it’s the best way to end my workout. Well done!! πŸ‘ πŸ‘

The Y is nice. But the open gym is confusing. Been in several times during open gym and would see a few people shooting basketball. On the other hand with minimum pickleball time is available you may have up to 30 people. We use to have two to two half hours a day for five days a week. We now have Tuesday hour and a half and Thursday two hours. You can use open gym more efficiently.

Resistance training as an afterthought. It's a beautiful new building, but the machines require an app and a "profile" to unlock. Are they gathering our information to sell? What's the deal? Free weights are ok, but very limited space. Almost all cardio equipment. Again, limited space. No place to stretch and cool down. Very strange layout for a new facility with so much money backing it. Very nice high end free weights and squat racks though.

This ymca is a beautiful place.

I’m just gonna say what all my local bball players are wondering.

But I’m just wondering why they didn’t build a separate court for pickle ball??? Or build a second basketball court. You would think with that 25mil, you would do that. I be getting hype to play ball with the guys, and boom, pickle ball.
Besides that, it’s a beautiful facility.

Probably the nicest YMCA ever been in my life. I grew up going to the Eastern Queens New York YMCA and I worked at the Easton Pennsylvania YMCA and I often swim at the Geneva New York YMCA. It is brand new and beautiful, and the pool area is grand.. however.. some of the handicap facilities need a tweak. More bars in the pool locker room bathrooms & showers, and there is only one large bathroom in each. The doors on all bathrooms were too heavy/awkward for someone in a wheelchair or using 2 arm crutches - and yes, I even checked both men's & women's.
The new, digital, workout machines might be challenging for older people who are used to being able to change weight & position as they get used to the machines, and what about miss-placing a bracelet. Plus, there seemed to be a lot of emphasis on track and not enough on our elderly population just toning for health. Maybe it was just too crowded on opening day. I'll be back to look again on a regular work day before making a final judgement about joining, right now I'm pretty happy with a regular gym.

They continued to bill their loyal patrons after the YMCA was closed. None of their main page communications ever said you had to contact them to suspend billing. When I called to question the charges they advised it was in their newsletters. When I went back to check emails it is indeed there but deeply buried under FAQ that you had to click to link to. I feel this was very deceptive and designed to protect revenues. When I was able to suspend charges it was on 8/4 but they invoiced on 8/3 and refused to credit for the month since it already billed Again another unfair business practice. Managment and director refused to credit. Need more customer friendly leadership.
