This place is gym Shangrila! I have been to several gyms throughout my lifting life. Upon my initial visit I was able casually able to walk up to a squat rack. They have what seems like an infinite amount. They have so many that if you wanted to do arm curls in the squat rack you could without impacting the gym goers while there(please don’t ever do that)! I have yet to see the 3-7pm gym rush. The place is quiet and clean with plenty of the necessary equipment for any type of gym goer. Alan and Tommy have a great product.

So far, so good! I have never been a gym girlie and was nervous to sign up. I had a few sessions with trainer, Alan, who was very professional, knowledgeable, and helpful in jump starting my gym experience. I have since been going on my own and feel able to navigate the space and confident in my workouts. Generally, the patrons are friendly to neutral and doing their own thing. It's not too crowded and nice to have 24hr access. Thanks SNS.

If you’re serious about training, Squat and Science is hands down the best gym in Bushwick — maybe in all of NYC. The fact that it’s open 24/7 already makes it unbeatable, but what really sets it apart is the atmosphere. This isn’t your average commercial gym with broken machines and crowded treadmills — this place is built for people who love to train hard, smart, and consistently.

The equipment is top-notch, especially if you’re into strength training, powerlifting, or just want to get stronger in a supportive, no-nonsense environment. Squat racks, specialty bars, calibrated plates, platforms — you name it, they’ve got it. The space is clean, organized, and clearly cared for by people who actually lift.

Took a look at the gym and I must say it was just what I was looking for. Not too loud or crowded.

SNS is THE best powerlifting gym in the city. First, it’s 24/7 which is extremely helpful for individuals like me with an insane schedule. It is super clean, has all the equipment you can think of, everyone is very friendly and respectful, and they host the greatest powerlifting meets as an athlete and spectator. 4 big bathrooms in the Bushwick location! If I ever had a question that needed to be answered, I was given a response in a timely manner. Most importantly, I have never felt uncomfortable as a woman in this gym and I’ve been there as early as 4am and as late as 10pm. 10/10 best gym that I recommend to all!!!

If you’re looking for more than just a place to work out — a gym that actually feels like home — this is it.

From day one, the culture here stands out. Whether you’re a beginner, powerlifter, athlete, or just working on your wellness, everyone is welcomed and respected. There’s a strong sense of community, and you’ll never feel out of place, no matter your experience level.

The equipment is top-tier, thoughtfully selected, and well-maintained — everything from racks and platforms to cardio machines.

The leadership team truly leads by example. You can tell they care about the people just as much as the place. They’re approachable, passionate, and constantly improving the space based on member feedback. Their commitment to inclusivity and progress is clear in every detail. I use to have this misconception that leadership favors members they are close to and has established relationships with, allowing them to bypass rules but I was wrong.

The location is convenient, and the 24/7 access is a game-changer — especially if you have a busy or unpredictable schedule. Early mornings, late nights, weekends… your goals don’t have to wait.

Bottom line: this gym checks all the boxes. Great vibe, serious equipment, and a supportive community built on real values. Whether you're lifting your first dumbbell or chasing a PR, this is the kind of place that lifts you up, too. If you're a member complaining about one uneven deadlift platform, stop being soft there are other platforms that work as designed.

Decently sized space with a great community of lifters. The gym itself has potential, but unfortunately is riddled with not well thought out decisions and band aid fixes. Deadlift platforms are not in good shape and are iteratively just made worse with attempts to cut noise and vibrations at the cost of being usable for lifters.

Respectable selection of equipment, hopeful that the space will be filled out with more but is currently lacking.

Not much transparency or communication from owners.

Been to countless gyms all over the United States and this is the most thought out space that I’ve been too.

Squats and Science in Bushwick is hands down the most equipped gym for powerlifting and weightlifting in New York and even rivals some in other states like Texas with more space. The level of equipment they have is unmatched, and what's even more impressive is that the gym is still expanding since they are still in the soft opening period with new equipment arriving everyday. The atmosphere is incredibly motivating, and the members of the community are knowledgeable and supportive. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned lifter, Squats and Science has everything you need to reach your fitness goals. Highly recommend!

The aesthetic is gorgeous with the large windows overlooking one of brooklyns most unique areas along with good lighting for content and a grey and black color theme. It has 4 bathrooms which is more than enough for the space.

For powerlifting the equipment includes but is not limited to 3 new TSS combo racks, 2 Eleiko combo racks v1, 1 rogue combo rack equipped with a Thompson fat pad, and one ER combo rack. To my understanding there are a couple more combo racks still on its way. For weightlifting there are two eleiko squat stands with 2 pairs of blocks and crash pads.

For both there are countless competition style plates and bars.

For the accessory equipment they pretty much have everything you need including incline and decline press, a full set of dumbbells, lat pulldown, functional trainer, leg ext/leg curl, and a hip/leg press - it is to my understanding as well that there are more accessory machines coming in.

For cardio equipment there are a couple bikes and treadmills overlooking the J train and bushwick ave.

The gym is within walking distance of the J, M, and L train. There are countless markets, delis, and other various places to eat.

I would highly recommend you check this place out if you are a beginner or a seasoned lifter.

Just signed up, it’s what you want from a powerlifting/CrossFit gym. Cable Machines definitely need maintenance but other then that, I’m very happy.

One of the least welcoming gym environments I've experienced. Won't be back.

I stopped in on a Sunday. Nobody was at the front desk. There were a bunch of powerlifters training downstairs.

I mentioned I'm a powerlifter from out of town, and if it would be possible for me to get a day pass. The guy indifferently said "yeah sure, I think you can probably work out in here and nobody would care" and then went back to his workout.

At my home gym, people are much friendlier to newbies. Asking them if they have questions, chatting, welcoming them to the space. Not the case here. Just a bunch of men lifting, in a clique, whooping at one another. It made me sad because I would love to meet more powerlifters - it's a pretty niche sport!

I went to the bathroom to change. The lock broke and I got stuck in the bathroom for 5 minutes. I didn't even have my phone and I thought I was going to die in there. Someone finally heard me and let me out. The icing on the bad experience cake.

I haven’t actually been inside this gym. But I have paid for a membership. Willing to update my review if my issue gets resolved. The issue - I signed up online for a monthly membership (129$). I saw that my pin would not be active until I attended an orientation. There are no dates available within 30 days after I have already been charged, for an orientation. I’ve tried contacting them via the phone number on their IG, the email on their IG, the chat feature on their google profile, and via Facebook. I have yet to receive a response anywhere. So this review is strictly for their customer support. I don’t understand how I could be charged before I’m actually able to use your services. However, I’m really excited to start here! But please help me out with this issue, please.

Edit - I seemed to have signed up during a time when the team was away for competition. Having tested the waters of a lot of other gyms/facilities out there SNS is unique in the way they operate. For the record - I did sign up on a Saturday night, it was pride weekend, pride Sunday in fact when I was looking to get in contact with someone. They got back to me and resolved my issue in a timely manner. Their member portal is second to none and unlike any I’ve ever seen which is very encouraging. Looking forward to getting in and training!

Signed up for a day pass and couldn't believe that the space where the SNS is literally the size of a garage gym. Great powerlifting equipment but garbage accessory equipment. Definitely not worth $160/mo for something the size of a one car garage.

160$/month (edit: its 129$) for a few squat racks and benches. The equipment is top notch and its 24/7. Can feel crowded if there is more than 5 people in there. No stairmaster and limited cardio equipment, powerlifting only. See if you can check it out first before paying. I wish it was less expensive.

Changed my life from a fitness standpoint. Great 24hr facility. great off hour prices if you don't' work 9-5. Shane, the coach myself and my wife are working with, is the best. both of our progress has been so exciting and I'm so grateful I became a member here
