I joined this gym 6 weeks ago and it’s the best decision I’ve made in a long time. Getting stronger is helping to reduce daily chronic pain I was living with, the trainers are knowledgeable and helping me learn more about how to lift safely and successfully, and I feel great. Excited to continue growing my fitness here at SBWC

Without question the best gym I have ever been a member of. Every member receives one-on-one attention from the entire staff who are experts not just in weight/power lifting but every aspect of strength training and fitness. The facilities are superbly outfitted and the atmosphere is warm and supportive. Book a tour and let Paulie and Becca show you around. You will not be disappointed.

SBWC is the best gym I've ever been a member of. I learned more from their team in 3 months than at any other point in my weight-lifting journey and turned a huge corner in my fitness. It's also a friendly, relaxed and supportive community. Everyone is there to get stronger and help you get stronger, without ego or pretense. The club has top notch equipment and just what you need to push yourself safely. I could not recommend South Brooklyn Weightlifting Club more.

This gym is fantastic! The coaches and the owner are not only knowledgeable but also genuinely supportive. The equipment is top-notch, and they even offer 3D body scanning to track your progress, which is a great motivator. As a beginner, the equipment can feel intimidating at first, but with the guidance and encouragement from the coaches, you'll feel confident and comfortable in no time. Highly recommend!

Visiting from out of town, stopped here for a couple drop in days. Fantastic, best and well maintained equipment (10+ racks/platforms, kg bumper plates, rogue power bars and Olympic collars). Farmer’s handles, sandbags, chalk, belts, ssb, belt squat machine. Everything you need for weight training. The owners were super friendly, if you lift weights and live nearby do yourself a favor and join this gym.

I have been at SBWC for 4 months, and have only good things to say. The coaches are super knowledgeable and provide expert, individualized training from novice to competitive levels. The community is tight-knit; friendly, helpful, supportive, inclusive and welcoming. Equipment is extensive and top-notch. There is a unique commitment here to building strength in parallel with mobility through accesory programming focused on flexibility and longevity. A truly unparalleled gym experience for lifters of all levels.

I joined SBWC a little over 3 months ago and it is the best gym I’ve ever trained at. I wish I had found it sooner. All of the coaches are extremely knowledgeable and friendly, which makes this a great place to train whether you're a complete beginner or a competitive lifter. The gym is always clean and the equipment is top notch. You'll find equipment here that you'll never find at most other gyms (ie. reverse hyper, belt squat, etc.).

Programming is provided and every session is coached, which has really helped me to improve my technique and get the most out of each workout. The coaches do an awesome job of giving personalized feedback and tips/cues/accessory exercises to improve weak points. They will push you and help you get stronger. The gym hosts powerlifting competitions throughout the year if you want to compete (participation is optional and completely up to you).

They also have different classes that focus on recovery and mobility, which is great for off days. They want you to get strong AND be healthy/mobile for as long as possible.

I've loved my time here so far. Thanks to the SBWC team!

Love this place and it’s people. Paulie and Becca are so lovely, knowledgeable and so helpful. I’m an unlikely customer—a middle aged woman with no weight lifting background. I came here because of an injury, referred by my PT. Started as a newbie and now I’m a staunch advocate. Really adore this place.

If you’re serious about powerlifting this is the place to be. Apps that track your progress, planned workouts, top tier equipment, a fridge with snacks, and coaches at every session. Costs more than other gyms but you’re getting more out of this gym than others by a huge margin. This gym motivates you to be consistent and hold yourself accountable because of how well supported you are

I joined South Brooklyn weightlifting club a little over three months ago and it’s been an awesome place to learn how to lift. You are always training under the guidance of expert coaches, who do a great job of making sure that everyone is using proper form and doing their best. You reserve space ahead of time, so it never gets overcrowded. In addition to racks and platforms they have five other spaces with machines, free weights, cardio stuff, a Yoga studio (the yoga and kinstretch classes are great) and meditation room. I found this place when I was looking for a personal trainer, but I’m so glad I went this route. The community, programming and coaching are amazing and honestly fun. They make it really easy to just show up and get strong!

No music. No mirrors. Nobody is wearing headphones, people actually communicate. You are never on your own, a coach or two is always watching what you are doing and giving you cues.

This is not a typical gym, it is specialized in getting people stronger. You get support, structure, and motivation. I prefer this setup to personal training, it is more social and you get plenty of attention from instructors to get some serious work done.

Very solid weightlifting gym. Basically it's coached sessions where there are one or two coaches helping normally around four to eight people with their lifts. The programs are mostly powerlifting or Olympic lifting, but I'm given to understand you can customize your program if you want to.

Compared to any other gym I've been to, the equipment to attendance ratio is off the charts. They have almost a dozen power racks on the first floor, and several platforms besides. They have a huge set of dumbbells in a different room, and a variety of implements for doing HIIT workouts. Upstairs they have a meditation room and also a substantial collection of what I would call fitness gadgets (various sorts of weight machines, rowergs, skiergs, treadmills, etc.).

If I had to pick a couple downsides: the price is a bit high compared to my understanding of what other gyms charge. I view it as worth it to have the coaching and to not have to wait for a rack. Honestly I wouldn't want them to reduce it, because I don't want it to get crowded. The other downside is that the hours are not as extensive. You can't just come and work out on your own at 8:30 or 9PM if you want to, you need to sign up for a session, and the last one is at 730PM on the weekdays, with none in the evening on the weekend.

All in all, even with these drawbacks taken into account, this is the best gym experience I've had. Highly recommended.

I've been powerlifting for 6 years and this is hands down the best gym I've ever been to. I wish I had found it sooner. Among some of the best features:

1. Enforced and encouraged consistency. Because the workouts are coached, you have to reserve a 90-minute slot. This encourages you to seize the day and actually show up at a consistent time, rather than slip and end up going to the gym tired at 11 PM.

2. The coaching is fantastic. This is the first time in a long while that I feel my form is improving. I came in with my squat having plateaued because of knee pain that I had developed when I was lifting alone. The coaches gave me PT exercises that I can do in the space after the workouts.

3. Focus on flexibility. When I worked out alone, I used to skip stretching *a lot*, which left me with knee and shoulder pain. At SWBC, every workout begins and ends with a warmup routine, and the coaches will ensure that you do it before you even touch a barbell. There's also weekly dedicated kinstretch sessions and yoga and meditation on Sundays.

Going to SBWC is the foundation of my routine. I live in Williamsburg but I commute 9 stops on the G train + 5 mins on a citi bike to get here 3-4 days a week. I feel safe lifting heavy weight around the coaches (I'm usually supervised by Becca/Andrew) - they have a keen sense of what I need to adjust to improve, and give me quick feedback (even if there are six other people around me, I'm able to get the advice I need for each exercise). I've been lifting for ten years but I think I'm in the best shape of my life thanks to this gym. Plus, I love seeing the same people each week when I show up at around the same time - you really feel like you're a part of a community here.

If you are considering weightlifting for sport, for fitness, or for joy (or for a mix of all the above), I cannot recommend South Brooklyn Weightlifting Club enough! Between the excellent coaching, top-notch equipment, and awesome community, I am happy to call SBWC my "third place".

I have always struggled with my mindset and my sense of confidence. Their coaching has helped me push through and confront these feelings directly. As a result, I am hitting goals that I would have never imagined myself hitting a couple of years prior. Paulie, Becca, and the rest of the incredible staff absolutely understand that growth happens at the intersection of challenge and support. I started as an absolute beginner. You can reserve a rack for your workout through the app. They provide weekly scheduled workout plans, a quiet environment with instructors who offer feedback on technique and weight on every set, Fit3D scanning, kinstretch, biannual powerlifting meets. Makes me feel welcome while I didn't feel like I fit in at other gyms. The owners and staff are positive, kind, and available to help. My son learned how to lift at SBWC and i was impressed by the staff’s knowledge and attention to detail, which insured he maintained proper form and progressed in a manner that kept him injury free. He returned to SBWC to work on his sprinting technique, and once again I was impressed by how the staff explained technical details to him in a way that he understood why he was doing each of the drills. Looking forward to seeing how much he progresses with SBWC’s guidance next season.

Not to be dramatic, but SBWC changed the trajectory of my life.

The highlights:
- Most welcoming gym I’ve ever been a part of with encouraging coaches and warm members
- Knowledgable coaches that are attentive without breathing down your neck
- Clean facilities with excellent equipment – Everything you need to succeed is included in your membership
- Just show up, the coaches will take care of the rest

The sappy part:
I’ve been at SBWC for 4 months now, and I feel stronger, more motivated, and more confident than I’ve ever felt in my adult life. I’ve NEVER been the type of person that was eager to go to the gym. Now, if I don’t go at least 3 times a week, I feel like a fundamental part of my life is missing, and I can’t wait to get back on track.

If you’re feeling disenchanted with exercise, overwhelmed by the constant “wellness” marketing out there, and overall fed up with how you’ve come to think about health, fitness, and nutrition, SBWC is for you. If you’re looking for a way to feel progress in your life outside of your job, SBWC is for you.

If you’re like me, and you’ve been scouring the internet for reviews to find something that actually works, I highly encourage you to give SBWC a try. The flexible month-to-month membership means you won’t get locked into anything if it’s not right for you (though I have a feeling it will be — it’s right for everyone!). Just try it – what have you got to lose?

Love this place! The pandemic really shut me down and got me into some horrible living habits. Paulie, Becca, and the gang at this gym really helped put myself back together. For me the pandemic was just the tipping point. I hadn't had a structured or planned workout for close to 15 years. The coaches at this gym are extremely caring and supportive, especially if you don't know what you're doing. Within weeks I was feeling great again and that's all thanks to the great team at this gym as well as my fellow patrons. Community and Support, those are my two key words for this place. If you're anything like me, you're your own worst enemy. South Brooklyn Weightlifting Club is the definition of ally, in every sense of the word. I cannot speak highly enough of this place.

From being shown around the gym, my first sessions in the racks, taking part in sprint training and Kinstretch, to becoming a part of the “team”, my experience has been excellent.

If you’re looking to be the best version of yourself and get strong, you should come check the gym out. Paulie, Becca, Jonathan and Sam will talk to you about your fitness goals and then help you smash them out of the park.

No matter what your level is (never lifted or looking to nail a 600lb deadlift) you will take something from this gym and the amazing community you will become a part of.

My experience at SBWC has been nothing short of transformative. I recently hit my 100 days since joining and it is pretty remarkable to think about how far I've come in such a short amount of time. I feel stronger, grounded and engaged. The coaching that Becca, Paulie and their team give is insightful, precise and if you can listen/integrate it into your workout the difference between meeting your potential and greatly exceeding it. I was really nervous about going back into the gym during COVID however the precautions that the team takes and the respect and care that everyone has for each other in the community makes me feel safer than going to grocery store. I feel incredibly lucky to have found this place when I did and it has become an essential component of my weekly routine. If you are looking to lift more than you ever thought possible, a meaningful community of people who are giving their best each time they come to the rack and aren't afraid to laugh at themselves....give SBWC a shot!

As a total neophyte at lifting - having been dragged to the gym a few times before by friends, thrown weights around with no idea of what I was doing, and gone home sore and demoralized - I was nervous starting out at SBWC. That was a silly notion.

Every aspect of the gym, from layout and equipment to programming and coaching, feels like the product of decades of experience and deep consideration. SBWC has honestly done more for me than my health insurance has. I have never received this level of quality coaching, individual attention, or plain good vibes at a gym (boutique, big box, or studio). No doubt! This lifting gym is family-like. Coaches and members are always kind, thoughtful, and of course professional. They have well understood the safety instructions and make trainees feel safe and comfortable under the adversity of COVID19.

I haven’t heard much about weightlifting when I stepped in the gym for the first time so I wasn’t even aware of difference between powerlifting and weightlifting. For me, lifting looked like a sort of dangerous sport and difficult to start to learn. But, they literally break my prejudice and make me understand how to workout better and safer. It’s not just for people who want to lift heavy, get bigger, or get stronger. For health, stamina, stretches, power, and even speed, I can enjoy myself with a variety of programs and coaching here. Since the gym wants to make the place line home, I hope to see more members to get fascinated and be a family!

South Brooklyn Weightlifting Club is the best place I have ever trained by far! The owners Paulie and Becca are very knowledgeable and professional and have built a great team. I’m recovering from an old back injury and I trust that they can help me safely get back to lifting- the kinstretch classes are a nice addition in that area. I was so nervous to get started that I put it off for a long time, which was totally unnecessary since they will just meet you wherever you are and help you improve over time. After several weeks I am feeling the benefit across all areas of my life: my back hurts less, I feel stronger and steadier on my feet, days of interminable zoom meetings are easier to get though with energy and focus- not to mention that all of my lifts have improved in form and increased in weight.

The gym itself is spotless and well laid out, there is delicious coffee, and you can even pick up healthy prepped meals or reserve an infrared sauna session. They’ve thought of everything and take pride in their hard work, so it is a pleasure to support their business. Plus they care about giving back to their community, are completely conscientious about Covid protocols, and are super queer friendly, so it’s a good place to be on multiple levels. There are plenty of cheaper places to work out, but I don’t think there’s a better one.

I first stepped foot inside SBWC in late 2016, and it was love at first squat. With the expert guidance from Paulie and Becca, they not only teach you the fundamentals of powerlifting, Olympic weightlifting, and/or general strength training, but they truly help unlock your full potential; I went from never touching a barbell in my life to experiencing my first national level powerlifting competition in under three years.

Whether you're a complete novice (like I once was) or an experienced athlete, SBWC is a phenomenal place with top-of-the-line equipment and facilities, along with a supportive, tight-knit community that's absolutely imperative to this niche sport. Needless to say, I'm so happy to have found this gym and cannot recommend it enough.

Owners Paulie and Becca call SBWC a "black iron gym with a heart of gold." To me it's also become a temple and a laboratory where quantitative and qualitative growth meet. I can't imagine training anywhere else, and I'm proud to be a part of SBWC as it emerges stronger from this crisis.

If you are interested in strength training, this is the place to learn! Paulie and Rebecca are extremely knowledgeable and supportive and are invested in your progress. The Club has everything you need to get strong. In addition, there are some special additions for example saunas. I live quite some distance from SBWC but find it worth my time to drive there as often as I can for the coaching and support. I highly recommend this club!

I had been looking for a powerlifting gym last fall but ended up at SBWC because they were able to accommodate my situation. I had been lifting on and off but I really wanted to find a place where I could improve my technique (so that I don't get injured). SBWC was more than I bargained for. The owners and coaches Paulie and Becca are very welcoming. All the gym members are very friendly and were quick to introduce themselves to me. I lived in NJ last fall and even though going to the Gym and back would end up taking 3 hours round trip I would still try to make it out there at least once a week. The environment and the programming they provided allowed me to be the strongest that I have ever been. If you're in NYC and looking for a powerlifting or weightlifting gym that's welcoming and friendly I highly recommend SBWC.

I've been a member of SBWC for three years. The coaches are great and the environment is as welcoming to beginners as it is to high-level athletes. The equipment is better than anywhere else and they've recently expanded to add lots of new wellness and sports performance offerings. I will keep coming back until they can't stand me anymore.

Great place to great strong. Unbeatable community and attitude. Everyone is friendly. They just expanded their space to add sleds, more racks, and other training options. Looking forward to coming back when the covid is beat.

SBWC is unlike any gym I've ever set foot in. I had never touched a barbell in my life before last year, but I feel in love pretty hard and fast. I first worked privately with Becca because of a shoulder injury that I've been rehabbing. My intention was simply to come once or twice a week. But it turns out that powerlifting is like potato chips, you don't really do it in moderation. I have felt safe, welcome, supported, and empowered here. Paulie is an amazing visionary and coach as well. I can't wait to get back to this place.

Arguably the most unique gym in the city. Dedicated to real weightlifting and powerlifting training. This place really lets me get away from any distractions and focus on training.

SBWC is an incredible gym. I have been a member for 2 and a half years. Paulie and Becca have built a strong community, where everyone supports each other and is inclusive no matter what skill level and experience. You learn valuable fundamentals about exercise and training in depth, and how to reach your goals. The equipment is top of the line and the facilities with the new expansion and holistic offerings are terrific. I would highly recommend the club to really anyone, no matter their fitness goals.

Top notch powerlifting coaching that truly gets results!

I've been around many different gyms, coaches, and trainers - and it's safe to say not many are as knowledgable as Paulie and Becca.

The program design is always well thought out, and I'm always able to learn and get better every time I'm at the gym thanks to the coach's feedback. As a bonus, the facility is always clean and has state of the art equipment.

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced lifter - if you want to learn a lot, get better at powerlifting or Olympic lifting, and get stronger - SBWC is the place to go.

I've been going to South Brooklyn Weightlifting Club for three years now. I can't recommend this gym more. Paulie and Becca have created a gym that genuinely feels like it's own community. They're thoughtful and attentive coaches, and I couldn't be happier with my time there.

You'll also see gains here. LOTS of gains. Get ready to set some PRs, baby!

Great gym with every resource you need to get strong. Paulie and Becca are extremely knowledgeable, plan your programming, watch out for your form, and give general helpful advice. You're essentially getting 1-on-1 training for the fraction of the price.

This is one gym that gets results.I highly recommend SBWC to all who are interested in strength training and strength sport. The equipment is very high quality as is the coaching. South Brooklyn Weightlifting Club is such an exceptional club that I consider it a second home. Being a woman it is hard to find a place in the weight lifting world to feel comfortable in and also to have people believe in your lifts and strength (for women). This is not only a great club for power lifting, but it is a truly life changing experience to have the best coaches and coaching out there. Coach Paulie and Coach Becca give you the confidence and tools to lift properly and also the belief in yourself to do so. They inspire you to push harder and be the best version of you. The gym itself is absolutely beautiful and well maintained. The equipment is top of the line and custom made. And last the community of lifters there now feels like family. I love this place!! Go and check it out!

I took the "Intro to Powerlifting" class at SBWC (which is an excellent introduction to power lifting movements) and subsequently became slightly obsessed.

The gym is full of great people, staffed by very professional/adept coaches, and has everything you need to train successfully (and get fit)!

I went to SBWC Intro class which consists of 6 courses where Paulie and Becca explain, present, and coach the main lifts Squat, Bench Press, and Deadlift, the accessory lifts such as the row, military press, and dumbbell work, and give nutrition advice.
I have been working out for the last two years and I once thought that I had good form, but taking this class has taught me exactly what proper form looks like. Form is key to exercising safely and efficiently and I wish I took this course when I first started working out because I could have avoided a myriad of issues.
Overall I would recommend SBWC for all levels of lifting!!!

Although I have my own bar and bumper plates and have a membership to a regular gym (only out of necessity), I still try to go to SBWC whenever I can. I've attended seminars, read books, watch videos, frequent the online forums, but there's no substitute for real personal coaching. You can't get this quality and attention anywhere else. I wished I found out about strength training and Olympic lifting when I was younger instead of just wasting time exercising away at the gym. Sorry if that is your thing - not really.

I recently switched over to South Brooklyn Wightlifting Club from a CrossFit membership and I could not be happier with my decision. I decided to do so because I wanted to take some time to rehab a shoulder injury in an environment that wasn't as competitive and fast passed as CrossFit. With Paulie's help, my shoulder has healed up nicely and I am now lifting more than I ever have. My power and olympic lifts look a thousand times better than they did before, and I am beginning to feel like a real strength athlete. I was a little worried at first that by shifting my focus exclusively toward weightlifting that I would not be get in enough conditioning time, but Paulie has been extremely accommodating and works to make sure that I achieve whatever goals I set for myself.

The coaching at SBWC is top notch and you couldn't ask for a more supportive and inspiring place to lift. All the members were welcoming and friendly. I really love the online forums that we use to track our progress, and feel right at home within the community.

I would highly recommend training here as a novice or an advanced lifter. There is a lot to learn and great people of all skill levels to surround yourself with.
