As a member of this facility, I want to point out that the building โ especially the pool area โ could use some improvements. Iโve noticed lifeguards who seem disengaged and managers who donโt seem to address ongoing concerns. I used to swim in the mornings, but recently learned that one employee was terminated for a no-call, no-show, while others who used their phones on deck or left the pool area while on duty or worse take little girls into the bathroom remained employed. This felt inconsistent and concerning from a safety standpoint.
That said, the facility itself isnโt bad โ itโs a great place to swim. But in my opinion, it needs stronger oversight and more accountability among staff and management.

The pool is very nice. Most of the staff is nice and professional. I enjoy going swimming there.
I have a couple of remarks:
1. Pool staff doesn't always do a good job in enforcing pool rules. Staff does not always ensure that swimmers use the appropriate lanes. For example, there are 3 slow lanes, one fast and one medium. Most of the times you see slow swimmers or people who do not swim at all in the fast lane instead of being directed in the slow lanes.
2. Another remark is that sometimes I see children (10 years old or less) in the fast/medium swim lanes. According to the pool rules, swimmers must be at least 10/15 to be able to go in the swim lanes.
3. When the pool is very crowded, I see pool staff swimming and blocking one or two lanes instead of giving priority to the members.
I hope management make some adjustments and enforce existing pool rules.

The front desk had some awful people who denied people to fill their water bottle if they didn't purchase entry on a 95 degree day. Even though the fountain was clearly in view, they blocked us from stepping a foot left past the front desk.

The recent renovations are amazing. The gym is fantastic and the new courts are nice and clean. The only problem I would have is how often people have permits for the gym. But nobody can control that do overall itโs a great place especially for the teen resident membership15$ a month

Very nice complex, pool could be a little bigger. Place is nice and clean. Helpful staff, drop in fee for children should be $5.00 for children under 16 yoa, it's expensive for people with limited funds.

Mediocre facility thatโs accompanied by a terrible staff ; very rude and disrespectful towards my friend and I. Upon our first time there they spread misinformation about the schedule so we didnโt even get to enjoy the activity we had to pay for. I do not recommend this facility at all.

I used to love swimming here but since they opened after covid there's not as many lanes for lap swim set up so it gets REALLY crowded. There were 4 people to a lane today and I could barely even get a workout in.

Living locally on the island I have used this pool for many years. This place has consistently gotten worse. Days for โmaintenanceโ which Iโve never seen at any other pool in NYC, cockroaches routinely either on the pool deck or lockers, and things that donโt work and donโt get fixed for long periods of time.
For example, the seconds clock which is used for interval training while swimming laps has not been working for over a month now. When asked about it, they said theyโre waiting for batteries. Some staff are rude and unprofessional. Some days they will temperature check you and others they will not. Also, the lifeguards donโt seem to know how to do their job (thereโs a reason public safety officers are at the pool this summer) and I would definitely go to a different pool if my swimming or my kids swimming wasnโt good.
In my opinion, this place needs a complete overhaul.

It is UNSAFE, UNREASONABLE & OVER CROWED
I haven been swimming here over a year and loved it very much, but since the beginning of 2019, they rescheduled their slots and put โmaster swimmingโ class in open swimming hours.
The direct result is HALF of the pool is taken by the class, with 2 students in each line and the rest of us crowed into the rest 3 lines (including one non-lap line) with 5-6 people in each line. We crumble and crush to each other and could barely swim.
I understand if the pool try to earn more money, but it should not build up on harming customersโ benefit and risking their safety.
Plus, the slot before opening swim is entitled โprivate rentalโ, isnโt it made to rent to coaches and swimming classes? Why isnโt the class paying the rent? Because they make other customers to pay it for them!!!!!!!
This is unreasonable robbery in disguised form!!!!!!!

Pool is large and pretty well kept, since it was recently refurbished. Locker rooms were left out of this project for some reason. They are a wreck, with broken lockers and a grimy, dirty aspect. It deserves a total remake. Hope they take care of this soon.

Love to go swimming here with the family on weekends. The water can be a little chilly, but for $10 for a whole family, whoโs complaining? They have plenty of kick boards and pool noodles to enjoy, too, and after having had lessons at another pool, my kids have gotten better at swimming just by coming to open swim here and having fun!

In NYC we are so desperate fore functioning public places, especially swimming pools that I have to rate this pool five stars for being "dynamite." Here is why:
+ easily accessible by NYC Ferry
+ the facilities are dated (especially the lockers in the changing rooms), but clean and functional
+ the moderate yearly membership fee guarantees a respectful and civilized atmosphere
+ very diverse crowds including retirees and many Asian families living on Rosevelt Island
+ good etiquette when people are sharing lanes
- very limited opening hours, reopens on weekday evenings only at 7pm :(
- very limited number of courses at the in-house gym. Couldn't the gym be given to local personal trainers for free which could then use the facilities to offer some fee-based classes?

Good swimming pool but terrible showers - water or too cold or too warm, cannot regulate it. Sometimes in the locker room there is a smell like a unit of homeless people slept there. And on the web site there is no updated information if a pool is open or closed. On Columbus day it says: "Hours: Opens soon โ 7:30AM Columbus Day might affect these hours". No one answered a phone so I guess it is closed. Why the hell they put this mysteries message instead if it is open or closed?

Overall the Sportspark is an amazing place, the pool is great and quite affordable ($5 per person is not bad at all), and there are many other available facilities like the indoor soccer/basketball field, the multipurpose room (best yoga classes ever!) and a gym (which is unfortunately currently unaccessible). It should be advertised more as this place has great potential!

Fantastic public pool! Great facilities, friendly and kind staff, convenient class schedules and lots of options - all at very affordable prices. This place is a real gem for both adults and kids. It's no luxury private gym pool of course, and the locker rooms and showers are on the shabbier side, but better than what I'd expected.

Reasonably priced for open swim at $5 and the staff is very nice and keep a clean pool. The evening hours are a little off considering open swim starts at 7:30 pm. It would have been perfect if it would have started an hour earlier but it's still not too bad. It can also get a little crowded when swim classes are in session.

The best pool close to Astoria. 24 meters long and 8 lanes. Public swimming is from 7:15 to 11 am and 7 to 9 pm on weekdays. On the weekend public swimming is from 11 to 7 am.

Roosevelt Island's Sportspark is an affordable, clean, indoor swimming pool facility open to the public. Roosevelt Island residents receive an additionally discounted rate off of daily and monthly access passes - RI children and seniors can swim for free! Along with the recently renovated swimming pool, there is a basketball court and ping pong room. They offer low cost swim and ping pong instruction for adults and children. The facility is next door to the indoor tennis facilities, steps from the Roosevelt Island Tram and a short walk from the F train subway stop. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. Don't forget to bring a swim cap and lock for the lockers.
