Training with Coach Stray at his private boxing studio has been a game-changer. What really hooked me in was his ability to thoroughly explain boxing mechanics.
Example: He will show you how to throw the jab, The reason why we throw the jab, the best time to throw the Jab. The focus is purely on technique; from punches, to combinations , to footwork — no gimmicks, just hard work and real boxing skills.

Coach Stray is a scientist, and he will teach you the delicate science of boxing. All these years of traditional martial arts made me think I knew how to defend myself… Wrong! Once I started training here, it made me realize the importance of proper form, eliminating bad habits and build upon a solid foundation. I just wish I could have trained like this when I was younger.

Jon’s a fantastic coach. Having never boxed before, I gave it a shot a year ago and have been training with Jon regularly ever since. He’s patient and precise, with lots of experience and a passion for coaching. Plus: he has a great sense of humor! Sessions are challenging, an excellent work out but also fun. Can highly recommend!

Great coach! Passionate about boxing, and more importantly, passionate about coaching. You can basically get whatever you want: perfecting basics, reaction drills, beginner-friendly sparring. Jon also personalize your tool set: you can throw whatever combinations, and Jon just perfected it with good reasons. You’ll never regret.

My massage therapist told me I was carrying a lot of tension in my shoulders and I needed to punch…. around this time I became aware of Stray Boxing.
Jon Stray’s Boxing program is helping me loosen up the tension in my neck and after the first 2 weeks I immediately noticed my body slimming down with sculpted definition. My strength and endurance has improved this past month.
Adding boxing to my cross- training, as a certified female yoga instructor over 60, has been fun, invigorating and helped to achieve my bathing suit 👙 goals for my next Yoga Flava retreat vacation.

Jon is a fantastic trainer! He places a lot of attention on technique and footwork, and is very supporting and encouraging. I was only able to take a few sessions before I moved out of country, but even that helped me overcome fears, enjoy working out, and gave a confidence boost. Highly recommend and hope to be back!

I met Stray at a boxing gym on the lower east side. During the pandemic, he began doing one-on-one, masked, outdoor private and group training sessions. I attended several private sessions with Jon and not only is he very flexible with his clients and their scheduling needs, he's a great coach. Regardless of your level, he ensures that you practice the basics and is very technical about how he teaches boxing. Highly recommend!

Stray is extremely dedicated, personalizes lessons to his students' goals, and most importantly he focuses on the finer details in technique. I love working with Stray because he doesn't let me get away with repeating the same mistakes, but always takes the time to explain how I can improve, and why it's important. I highly recommend working with him to anyone looking to learn to box, or even just to get into better shape!

I highly recommend Jon Stray if you're looking for a fun work out and are interested in actually learning how to box. A lot of "boxing" gyms basically set you up with a heavy bag and tell you to hit it, without any real instruction. Stray will not only teach you how to throw a punch the right way, but the right footwork, head movement, etc. You'll be surprised how much more you get out of the work out when you use proper technique. If you're looking to get into a combat sport, again, I recommend learning the sweet science from Stray.

I’ve been training with StrayBoxing more than 5yrs. Before, I’d had a few sessions at other gyms (including Gleason’s) but this was my first time working one on one. In this environment my dedication has escalated and with the attention to detail and technique, my form is clearly better. Stray is a passionate trainer and the sessions are rigorous and focused on form. It’s been a rewarding experience.
