My daughter begged me for karate classes and I was so happy to learn Takahashi was a traditional dojo with a flexible schedule. I knew it was a great fit before my daughter even finished her test class. Sensei Takahashi and Sensei Lisa are both wonderful with the kids. They strike the right balance between firm boundaries and a lighthearted manner, ensuring the kids are staying on task while also having fun. Takahashi Dojo is a very welcoming environment and a great place to learn both the physical and mental elements of karate. Highly recommend.

We were looking for a traditional dojo in town and a friend (their sons attend too) recommended Takahashi Karate Dojo. Our son quickly began to develop his skills under their tutelage and has passed many tests and climbed in belt ranking. We appreciate the sense of discipline he's learning from Sensi as well. Now our 5-year-old daughter is attending too. We highly recommend it!

I started sending one of my sons to this dojo in 2021 and the other in 2023, both when they were 6 years old. They have both consistently attended 2 classes a week, and both still really enjoy it. I highly recommend anyone interested in a dojo for their kids to go for the trial lessons offered.

What drew us to the dojo, and why it has been so beneficial for my sons, is the traditional and deep teaching which Sensei provides, given his vast experience. Further, Sensei and Lisa provide a structured and focused environment, which helps my sons practice discipline, stillness of mind, and control of body, which is what I was seeking for them, given the excitement and mayhem which surrounds so much our daily world.

Where kids find self-control challenging when doing activities together, I appreciate the practice they get every class, as behaviroal expectations are clear, an the environment is set for them to learn and grow.

I started in my 40's and spent 5 years practicing 2-3 times each week. Sensei Takahashi is the best teacher I've experienced in any subject, and I'm an education professional. The dojo culture Sensei has created is like a family. I value greatly the time I spent with Sensei and all of the dojo students, and wish I lived close enough to continue the training. I think about my training all the time and have integrated many of the dojo exercises into my daily routines. Thank you, Sensei!

I am extremely fortunate and honoured to have had Sensei Takahashi and this most amazing group of people in my life. Alas it was only temporary and I had to relocate back to the UK after 3 years but Takahashi Karate Dojo has left a huge hole in my life. I cannot recommend Takahashi Karate Dojo highly enough. πŸ₯‹

When we were looking for activities for my three-year-old daughter, I remembered how karate impacted me as a kid. After over a decade at Takahashi Dojo, it’s truly become our second home. Sensei Takahashi personally teaches the students, giving them a strong foundation and making each lesson feel one-on-one. It’s been an incredible journey for my daughter and me, and we’re so grateful and looking forward to continuing being part of this amazing karate family!

I have trained with Sensei Takahashi for a few decades. Our dojo checks all the boxes.
Sensei is an outstanding karate practitioner, teacher and coach. His dedication to karate is exemplified in all his students.

I've trained at three prior dojos in my early years with my last one prior to joining Takahashi being JKA, Shotokan. They were all good, but none compared to Takahashi Dojo, which I enthusiastically joined in 1986. If you're seeking traditional karate training, providing a balanced training experience (basics, kata, and sparring) along with great people to workout with, you'd be hard put to find a better dojo. All ages and gender are welcomed. The only requirements are enthusiasm, dedication, and respect for others!

I started Shotokan Karate in Jan 1980 in Santa Monica CA. When I moved to NY in Feb 1984, my goal was find a Dojo that was as good or better (tough target). I trained at several different karate dojos but nothing really clicked until someone at a bookstore mentioned Sensei Takahashi's Dojo in Mt. Kisco. All it took was one class training with Sensei Takahashi to realize my goal had been achieved. I've been training with him and the other folks at the Mt. Kisco Takahashi Karate Dojo even since. Never took a break, never looked around; I found what I was looking for. Now it's 41 years later, and still going strong. There is no other path for me. If you are looking for traditional Shotokan style karate, with an incredible 8th Dan instructor, this is the place to be.

I was looking for a traditional karate school for my 7 year old son. Having trained in another style for many years - many years ago - I visited several schools across Westchester county observing classes until I found the right dojo. Excellent teaching from experts in Shotokan, attention to detail, good discipline but not overdone for kids, and a warm, passionate base of fellow students. After 23 years of not practicing karate, and despite a longer drive to Mt. Kisco for us, I not only enrolled my son but joined him as a fellow student in 2016. Can't say enough good things about Takahashi Karate, Sensei and the black belts who support the dojo.
