TCR has a great facility and community. From the classes to the trainers and staff, I’ve had only good experiences. A big shout out to Mark, JP, and Ellie at the gym. These guys are excellent trainers and demonstrate that they really care about their clients.

As an obsessed rec tennis player/athlete, I’ve been searching far and wide around NYC for a facility that not only has stellar coaches and clinics for tennis players, but also the amenities all players look for (modern and clean gym, sauna/steam room, and friendly staff)

I love my weekly sessions at TCR and always leave knowing I got better, and had a great time too. 5/5

My 8 year old son improved his beginning golf techniques at TCR Summer Golf Camp for Kids; moreover, he made new friends and was learning golf in an outdoors environment including on actual golf courses nearby with golf pros. Lucas and fellow TCR admin and staff provide a safe, tidy and wonderful camp setting that includes STEM like fun activities and indoor swimming pool -especially convenient on summer rainy days. The TCR shuttle bus route was in our UWS neighborhood, not a long commute and my son loved riding it too. Their meal plan has terrific options and it’s very tasty.

I have been a member here for 12 years and it has become part of my daily ritual. I train with Naomi regularly; with my home exercise program and her routine, my strength and agility have increased significantly. The cafe, run efficiently by Michele,is excellent with good food and service - serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with healthy options and always a smile. There is an Olympic sized pool with classes for all ages under Christiana’s skilled direction and children’s and adults’ classes in basketball and tennis. Even pickelball is featured!

Take a tour! Enjoy!

I have been a TCR member for 10+ years and highly recommend the club for its exceptional facilities, services, and staff.

Spa Services: The esthetician provides top-tier facials and valuable skincare guidance.

Swim Lessons: Thanks to the patient and supportive instructors,
my son enjoys his swim lessons.

Fitness and Training: The HIIT, lower-body, and upper-body workouts are excellent, and the personal training sessions are highly effective.

TCR offers a top-quality fitness experience, making it an excellent choice for those seeking expert swim and fitness class instruction and great amenities.

Have been coming to this gym for coming up to 5 years and never had a problem.

Some of my highlights about the gym:
Staff - I feel comfortable reporting that I haven't had a bad interaction with any of them. Most of the staff are super respectful and helpful if you have any questions. It helps building rapport with them so you can have those friendly interactions before bringing any issue or concern to them. All of my concerns regarding gym access or amenities for my kids or updates on gym fixes were always addressed without issue.

Kid Programs - From what I see, the kids who participate in the afterschool appear to be having a ton of fun. My kid isn't part of the program because she attends another school, but TCR has events for kids such as Halloween night and July 4th celebrations where it's catered appropriately for kids. Let me remind you, this is a kids event. Some of the adults dress up like they are going out to a Manhattan lounge. I have gone to the Halloween party every year and my kids absolutely loves it. What I love the most is that it's from 6 pm - 8 pm so enough time for them to get out energy and go right to bed.

Gym Equipment - For a relatively small gym, they have the equipment you need to do your thing. Plenty of free weights for the heavy lifters and many cardio machines for you larger people. Cool note - it's currently underway for upgrades so management is aware and are working toward giving it a much needed lift.

The TCR cafe is pretty solid as well. Always a fan of their protein shakes.

Overall, if you live in the area, it's a solid gym worth the price of admission.

This is the third time this has happened so I can't imagine this is just a mistake and only to me. It feels more like a scam. You should check your credit cards or bank account to see how often this "accident" or "mistake" keeps happening. We've sent our kid there for classes in the past with no problem. But now they have our contact and card information, they keep charging our card without a word for classes that we've never signed up for. We never even contacted them since the last time they fraudulently charged our card out of the blue but now I have to contact them again. To correct it again. Somehow they they keep making the same "mistake" again and again. If this has happened to you please come forward. I think it's time for a class action lawsuit.

I've been coming to the gym here for a few months now and there are a couple problems here and there but none of them take away from getting a great work out. They are never so busy that you have to wait for anything, they have a large cardio area, multiple cable machines, dumbbells, barbells and kettlebells. They have a deadlift/free squat area, punching bag and a steam room/sauna in each locker room. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a great fitness center.

Our daughter (7) goes here for an after school program, and we pay extra for tennis and swim lessons. These extra lessons supposedly come with the ability for free swim outside of her classes. But when we showed up, I was told that I needed to pay $30 each time, as an observer, not even swimming as well! And because she is under twelve, an observer is mandatory. So the "free swim" is false advertising. Especially as there is no observation area that would not incur this additional charge.
Paying $30 just to sit in a chair is ridiculous under any circumstance, but after our payments for an after school program, tennis lessons and swim lessons they are an insult.

“After 23 incredible years as a member, I can’t help but gush about this gem of a pool in NYC! The showers are spotless, and the pool’s temperature always hits the sweet spot, rain or shine. Plus, swimming in the Olympic-sized pool for some laps is an absolute joy. And don’t get me started on the sauna – it’s like stepping into a cozy oasis after a swim. Cleanliness? Impeccable, every single time. This place is my go-to for unwinding and melting away stress.”

Horrible club. The facilities themselves are nice, but the employees couldn’t care less about making customers happy. They know they have a basic monopoly in Riverdale so they don’t bother trying to keep their clients. The tennis program is a joke, most of the coaches working there couldn’t care less about a person’s tennis development, and are only there because no one else will hire them. The front desk workers, especially Josh, Aaron, and Sandy are the epitome of a business who wants to squeeze every dollar that they can out of you. These experiences are shared by many of my friends who used to go here. I booked one private lesson and realized it was a complete waste of my time and money, only to realize that TCR had charged me for a 10-package deal which was never discussed with me. Quite possibly the worst tennis club in NYC despite their slogan “The best the city has to offer!” What a joke.

The pool, sauna & steam room was recently renovated which now has its own heating system, so lovely especially on those cold winter days. One of the worst clubs in the city. Coaches come and go. Josh typically lies about his involvement and will often have more kids on a given court than promised. Avoid at all cost. They will probably respond with a canned answer about the coach to player ratio, and the care they feel for their players. Words ring hollow when they're not backed up by fact.

I've really only used TCR as a tennis facility and for that I can say it's excellent! My husband and I regularly take lessons there and we both are finding our game so much improved. All the staff are friendly and professional but in particular we feel so lucky to work with Josh and Brent. I take a clinic weekly with Josh and if it weren't for his boundless energy, tough love and purposeful encouragement as well as supreme skills on the court I'm not sure I would be able to get myself there every week. But, thanks to Josh, I look forward to it so much. He makes it fun, a great workout, and a high quality investment in skill development. My husband and I also take doubles lessons with Brent regularly and there is no pro with the encyclopedic knowledge of the game that Brent has and is able to impart each time! He's been able to help us strategize our doubles technique as well as work on all the individual skills we need (even at our very disparate levels). I've recently started competing in doubles league matches and if it weren't for the instruction I've received at TCR from Josh and Brent I would be in no way ready or confident enough to do so. For high quality tennis instruction in the NYC area, TCR is an excellent value and I cannot recommend Josh and Brent enough!

My wife took my son and one of his friends to try out a tennis session. She told the club if boys liked it they would come back weekly. Kids did not love it so we did not come back. fast forward months later. checking Credit card statements and see huge bill from club. they charged us each month
for like 5 months and we never were there once for tennis clinics. We checked with other parents and found out they were charged also for lessons they never attended. i find it hard to believe this was an oversight. can’t charge for like 5 kids who are never there. someone would notice and question the charges. The club did the right thing and reversed charges but be aware and don’t give your CC or call them and cancel if you decide not to play weekly. We found 3 other parents also charged for months of tennis they never attended.

Going to TCR is a very enjoyable experience for my daughter and for me. We play tennis at different times and we have easy communication… Thanks to Josh Halpern who runs the place. He is a top notch manager, and not to mention a serious pro who makes lessons fun. All the pros that we have played with are professional and wonderful teachers. Including Josh, Justin, Alex, Brent, Chandler, and Sylvanus.

This is what I posted on Yelp:

I joined TCR back in November. My building has a gym and pool but the facilities have been closed since March. I was hesitant about paying for a gym membership, but I'm so glad I did. I use the pool as often as I can. I go in the mornings. The lifeguard, Eli, is fantastic. He is such a pleasure. He has a great attitude and has given me, and so many other members, really helpful tips and guidance with swimming. I really enjoy my morning swims. It's made such a difference in my day/life. The front desk staff is really nice and accommodating. The locker room is really clean. The showers are amazing. I don't know how TCR was pre covid. I don't have any real complaints.

Very disappointed to see such a fascinating facility to be operated by bunch of amateurs. Extremely unprofessional, the life guard were yelling at me in front of my kids. When I went to complain to the manager, this other guy in the front desk kept interrupting me, despite the fact that I was talking to his manager and had no interest to talk to him. All in all, no happy with my experience in there.
However, the managing team were really good, they identified the issue very quickly and assured me that this would not happen again.

I have been a member for almost 2 years, and my son attends their after school program. My whole family loves to enjoy the pool and sun deck especially in the summertime when the grill is open!!
The club space is modern, beautiful, and clean. The staff are ALWAYS friendly and knowledgeable. The trainers are amazing. And the classes offer something for everyone!
The locker rooms are well appointed and separated by Adult and Children of both genders. And to top it all off there is a full service spa AND restaurant! They even have a huge rec room for table tennis and party rentals.
There aren't enough stars for me to give!

My son went there for summer camp and then for after school care. Although staff is friendly, they have absolutely no care for a child's health or nutrition needs. They allowed my 5 year old to order junk food from their cafe multiple multiple times despite being asked to get prior permission from us. Our son ruined his teeth and had multiple cavities. Then he gained weight and the doctor's told us he is overweight. We know what we feed him at home. I checked my credit card details and was shocked to see TCR Cafe charges every other day. TCR is a club for older students and grown ups. Definitely not for 5,6 or 7 year old children who can not make best decisions for themselves. I am not renewing either summer camp or after school program with them for the upcoming school year.

Update: I see some positive changes in recent weeks - they have introduced healthy menu in the cafe, zumba classes for after care students and are working better at communicating with parents.

The thing about TCR that has always been the case is that they are not customer-service oriented. They do seem to spend a lot of money on improvements, but the "improvements" are about appearances, not about things that improve the quality of the experience for the club members, e.g, a refurbished reception area (the old one seemed fine to me), new locks on the lockers (no problems with the old ones). But the shower towels are chintzy -- feel like they're made of rubber; you rub and rub and never get dry; the showers could be kept cleaner (walls can be slippery); showers often seem to break down. And I agree with an earlier reviewer; if you bring a problem to the attention of a staff member; the response is a defensive one; i.e., an excuse, explanation, or the old standby, "Nobody else complains about this" (not true: plenty of complaining goes on in the locker rooms). There simply doesn't seem to be an interest in in improving the quality of service for customers. Requests to put in a suggestion box (so those reluctant to complain face-to-face could express concerns) just meet with a glazed stare.

No complaints about the pool.

It is presented as a top flight gym and club but it isn't. The cleanliness is questionable - I've seen cockroaches in the sauna, the gym floor rarely gets mopped. The response to any complaint is an excuse, not a solution. Too cold in the locker room? Oh well gee, it has been the coldest winter in ages. If swimming is important and you live nearby, it might make sense for you. I'd rather go to a gym farther away that is better managed.
